She writes romances but doesn’t believe in love. He’s always said she’s “the one.” Will mistletoe and a mail-order bride mix-up create a Christmas connection that turns real?
Bree I’m back in my hometown with an impossible deadline and a bank account on life support. When I sign up with a mail-order bride service for book research, my match is the guy I’ve spent years avoiding. Now we’re stuck in a binding contract through the holidays.
Fletch The penalty for losing a hockey bet is signing up to be a mail-order groom. I figured it would be a funny story to tell—until my match turns out to be the girl I’ve secretly pined for since college. She thinks my feelings were always a joke, but this Christmas, I’m playing for keeps.
Bree We made keep it professional, keep our distance, keep our hearts uninvolved. But every time he looks at me with those warm brown eyes, I think about our mistletoe kiss. He’s supposed to be my research subject, not the man making me question everything I write about.
Fletch Joining forces for the hockey toy drive and the pageant are my chance to prove what I said back in college, “I’m going to marry that woman someday.” I’ve spent my career scoring goals, but when the final buzzer of our agreement sounds on December 25th, I’m hoping to win her heart.
She thinks love only exists between the pages of her books. He’s about to turn her whole world into a story worth telling. But when Christmas ends, will their contract expire too?

I love the Nebraska Knights and everything surrounding them: the coach that seems to be a matchmaker in disguise, the small town that is obsessed with corn, the sweet and goofy (and sometimes grumpy) players and their lovable WAGs. Fletch and Bree’s story was so sweet. Mail order bride isn’t something you hear much but this has a modern twist. This book had it all: a mistletoe kiss, a Christmas market, ice skating on a pond, an adorable puppy, some forced proximity, and some long overdue conversations.
Our Merry Little Christmas is a cozy, sweet, and tender holiday hockey rom-com I couldn’t stop reading. Fletch and Bree quickly stole my heart, and I knew early on this story was going to be a new favorite. When Ellie first announced the mail-order bride trope, I was extremely curious to see how it would play out. I loved the modern twist Ellie brought to the trope and how fresh it felt. While this storyline may be unlikely in real life, it creates some truly great tension and romance on the page.
Fletch is like a bounding golden retriever—lovable, endearing, and impossible not to adore. He constantly surprises Bree with his kindness, sincerity, and unexpected thoughtfulness. I loved how quick he was to defend her, how supportive he was of her work, and how genuinely interested he was in her writing. Fletch is protective without being overbearing, thoughtful in ways that feel natural and sincere—absolute MMC gold.
I love writer characters, and Bree is no exception. She writes about a kind of love she doesn’t fully believe in—the kind she’s never experienced herself. I loved watching her growth and journey toward self-awareness, and I was so proud of her for finding the courage to rewrite her story and finally reach for the love she wants.
Fletch and Bree’s story is filled with sweet, flirty moments layered with tension and longing. I especially loved the conversations woven with bookish analogies—the way they use fiction as a safe, comfortable way to explore their feelings without revealing too much outright. Their interactions with the Knights and WAGs were a delight, as was time spent with Fletch’s family. And the “Just One More Chapter” sign? Such a perfect addition to their story. I loved how clever and meaningful it was once the meaning behind it was explained.
If you enjoy lighthearted slow burns, marriage-of-convenience romances (with a twist), hockey players with hearts of gold, and bookish FMCs on a journey of self-discovery, this one deserves a spot on your TBR.

I do not know how Ellie Hall does it, but she is a writing machine! She keeps publishing books and no story is like another. Every character goes through their own story, struggles, and journey. They are not repetitive at all and it is evident that Ellie truly takes her time to create stories that will captivate her readers. Our Marry Little Christmas is book 4 in her Love in Hockey Town series. This series has been fun to read and this one adds in the joy of the holidays.
Ellie gives a fun twist on the mail order bride and groom in this book. Don’t let that phrase turn you off either. It is done really well and our MCs are matched based on the both signing up to for the program. Bree is a struggling author who needs to make fast money before she goes broke. Her friends talk her into signing up as a mail order bride before she moves back home. When she finds out her match, she already knows him. He promised to marry her one day back in college. The problem is she didn’t want to marry him. His arrogance was enough to turn her off to any advance from him. She’ll just tell him no, problem solved.
Fletch is not sure what to do now that he has been benched due to a broken jaw. His hockey teammates dare him to sign up to be a mail order groom and he never backs down from a dare. When he receives his match, he can’t believe he already knows her. When they meet and she tells him she can’t marry him, he puts on a brave face. Until the fine print on the contract they both signed reveals they must stay married for 30 days. On top of that they have to live as a married couple, so there goes Bree’s ability to say no.
Ellie shines in the character development of both MCs. Of course we see how romantic and caring Fletch is towards Bree and how she begins to open up to him. As the feelings grow and the tension thickens, Ellie is able to give her readers wonderful sizzles, while keeping the story kisses only. Kisses though that still make your toes curl and your heart skip a beat. Of course Ellie gives us the Knights team and their WAGs that we have come to love as amazing side characters. One of the sweetest books in the series!
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 🏒Forced Proximity 🩷Marriage of Convenience 🏒Hockey Heartthrob MMC 🩷Small Town Romance 🏒Second Chance Romance 🩷Holiday Magic 🏒Grand Gesture 🩷Closed Door Romance
Oh my. There is nothing quite like the magic of romance at Christmas. This particular pairing is going to take a lot of magic to get over their hump.
Bree is a romance writer who does not believe in happily ever after. She is currently financially strapped and has a severe case of writer's block. Her friend convinces her to do something outrageous by signing up to be a mail order bride. It is only a 30 day commitment and the money will help her out. It should not be too hard. Hilarious.
Fletch has been temporarily benched on his hockey team after a night on the town turned a little ugly. He has lost a hockey bet which has him signing up to be a mail order groom. He figures he has nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain for a favorite charity. I love the concept of a mail order groom. You always hear mail order bride, but never groom.
It sounds simple until Bree meets her match. Fletch is the man who haunts her dreams. It cannot be him. But she knows she must do this. She needs the money and can hopefully get some good material for her new book.
This book was so endearing. It was serendipity, even though neither wants to admit it. There are definite sparks, some are not joyful sparks, but sparks nonetheless. You have an adorable dog, a fake marriage, forced proximity and being set at Christmas, which made it the cherry on top. Both Bree and Fletch are likable in every way. This community cheers for one another and lifts each other up as well which bodes well for this perfect couple.
Fletch's surprise for Bree will make you tear up. Heartwarming is not even a sufficient word for how sweet this romance story was and what it did to my heart. It is more blessed to give than receive was never truer than through the pages of this phenomenal story.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Well first of all let me tell you this . I love hockey check ,Nebraska Knights no less ✔️ I love Ellie Hall’s books tick ☑️ It’s a Christmas romance whoop 🙌🏻. So here’s the scoop. Bree is returning home with a deadline and on the breadline . A romance writer who doesn’t believe in love ? So she signs up for a Mail Order Bride service strictly for research purposes but heavens above ,someone must’ve been at cross purposes ,because she’s now matched with her nemesis ,well not quite ,truth be known I think she loves to hate him and swears she wouldn’t date him…Fletch the retch ,the hockey player from all heck ,has her checked against the boards ,that’s not exactly his reward ,it’s his penalty for losing a bet ,signing up to find a Mail Order Bride .But hold on a sec ,things are looking rosy ,the bride to be is his secret crush who he’d like to get cosy with. See he pined after her through college but she had no knowledge thought he was being funny . But now he’s happy she’s gonna be his honey for a while and he’s determined to make her smile and remain his this Christmas time . Ellie Hall ,this story is sublime . Awesomeness by you every time but this is absolute bliss .It’s plain to see that I love this book ,the writing is so inviting and the prose must flows off the page ,I was immediately engaged and my attention stayed and never strayed until the end .So my friends ,take it from me ,this book is heaven. It’s ecstasy in the cutest most romantic sense. So Yule ( yup I went there) be in your elements .
All I can say about this book during this Christmas Season is that it was a triumph my dear just a triumph. I loved the backstory that the first time he met her in college he told her he would marry her some day. He had never forgotten the girl who captured his heart. She was a romance writer who didn't really believe in romance. Now with a book deadline approaching and fresh out of ideas how to move her story along, she decides to move back home.
The story only gets better as Fletch, who has been benched from his team the Nebraska Knights due to a broken jaw has to take the dare his teammates give him to sign up for a mail order bride. He is shocked when the girl turns out to be Bree, the girl he promised to marry. Bree's best friend thinks she needs some inspiration for her western Mail Order Bride story so she encourages her to sign up for a modern day Mail Order Bride compatibility app. Finding out Fletch is her chosen groom has her concerned because she just remembers the guy from college who seemed so arrogant. When they realize the fine print in the contracts they signed has them legally married for 30 days, they will have to live together and convince everyone around them that they are really married.
Fletch turned out to be much more than Bree could have ever imagined, will he be able to convince her that romance can be real and not just a story in a book?
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
We are back in Cobbiton for Christmas with a local, who is begrudgingly back in town and a Knight that is currently on the injury list. It never ceases to amaze me of much mischief these hockey boys get themselves into and yet they’re endearing.
Bree came home to Cobbiton to finish writing her current book and little else. The plan was to stay at her childhood home since her mom downsized to a senior assistant living facility, but she didn’t expect the home to be in such an extreme state of disrepair. Plan B, stay at her bestie’s, Nina, as a writer on a hard-pressed deadline that’s currently experiencing a block with dismal lodging isn’t ideal! Nina is happy to host her friend but knows that it can’t be long term. Yikes!
Fletch is currently benched, but mainly because of his own stupidity and yet will stop at nothing to prove that he’s strong enough to come back. To show that his performance on the ice hasn’t been slipping, Fletch participates in the Ho Ho Hockey Charity Game and makes a bet on the side with his teammates. Time to pay up and this is where the story really takes off.
Fletch and Bree both get roped into the same Heartland Happily Ever After, only to be matched with each other. They’re strangers, right?! Not quite! Over the course of the story, these two try to make the best of their awkward situation, throw in a stray dog (who isn’t named for much of the book), and you have a recipe for success! They don’t go about their own lives for the entire story because as their lives begin to bleed into each other’s it is nothing short of Christmas magic. Sprinkle in the Knights (with their WAGs), Coach Badaszek, unexpected reconciliation, necessary renovation, and surprising inspiration the magic gets even better! Ellie Hall brings all the smiles, a few tears, and plenty of happy dog tail wags. This was one of the sweetest of all the Nebraska Knights based tales and I have read them all! Job well done!
Bree, who is a romance author, is finding herself stuck with writing her latest story. And returning to her home town, only to find Fletch there, isn't really helping matters. Until her friend encourages her to do something crazy for "research for her book".
Fletch is feeling a bit lost. After an injury he wasn't expecting keeps him on the bench for longer than he wants, and his teammates make a bet with him, he finds himself in a situation that may, or may not, be a dream come true.
So as Bree and Fletch find themselves ACTUALLY married, they have to find a way to work together so that they don't both lose out, and as it turns out, things end up very, very right.
There are SO many sweet scenes between Fletch and Bree. They have a history, and as they allow themselves to experience the magic of Christmas, and actually allow themselves to become friends, they do find so much more. And Dasher/Dickens/Bailey just adds so much to the story as well... ;)
A truly enjoyable read that'll have you really feeling the Christmas Spirit, and rooting for love over all!.

A story to make you smile Such a fun story of second chances and growth. Bree doesn’t believe in love at least not for her. She’s never experienced it. Fletch believes in love but has never gotten over Bree, the girl he met in college and in a moment of weakness or silliness announced that one day he would marry her. Leading to her continuing embarrassment as he repeats and repeats the statement. Now Fletch, a hockey player, has lost a bet and his teammates are having him sign up on a mail order bride site. Meanwhile, Bree, an author, has hit a roadblock in her latest book and, in an effort to get a breakthrough, signs up on the same site. They’ve been matched together and are not terribly concerned even though the site requires them to be together for thirty days. But reading the fine print they discover that by signing the contract they are now legally married. Will they make it the full thirty days? And what will their relationship they be in if they do? I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
“He did it because he wants me to have a place where I belong. Where love lives. I finally understand that love isn’t distant and conditional. Love is this. It’s us choosing each other day after day.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mistletoe…stray dog…mail order bride…what do these have in common? A Christmas recipe you’ll want again and again!
A romance writer who doesn’t believe in love?! A hockey player who loses a bet and has to marry a mail order bride. Both Bree and Fletch sign up for a matchmaking service and are the perfect compatibility match! The funny thing is they knew each other in college. As they enter this marital contract will they last the thirty days and go their separate ways? Or does the magic of the season reveal a happily ever after?
Tropes: fake relationship…mail order bride with a twist…reverse grumpy/sunshine…he falls first….opposites attract…forced proximity…small town…grand gestures…hockey romcom…clean romance
Thank you Ellie Hall for the complimentary ARC. Review is based on my thoughts and opinions.
Bree and Fletch get their turn at love in Hockey Town.
What you’ll get: A hockey bet gone wrong. Mail-order romance research for a book. Unrequited love. Mail-order marriage Small-town romance Brain v brawn Forced proximity She’s the grump
They knew each other in college. He ‘teased’ her, claiming he’ll marry her. He remembers it differently, but recognises that he was immature.
She lands a kiss on him, and he’s back into his feelings. And her friend plants a ‘mail-order-marriage’ in her ear. After the bet with his friends… I smell a set-up.
Not-quite-enemies, not-quite-friends, but they do become more… eventually. I love how his personality was so sunny, and he won over her mother
Low angst, very sweet, and we get to hang out with all of the Hockey Town characters. So many puns, so much cuteness, and a holiday romance at Christmas? Such a sweet, enjoyable read.

Bree signs up for a mail-order bride program to get some hands-on experience for the newest book she’s writing. When Fletch loses a bet with some of his teammates, he winds up Bree’s mail-order groom. Both are shocked to find that the contract is more legally complicated to navigate than they originally thought.
Our Marry Little Christmas is a stand-alone contemporary romance. Fletch does play for the Nebraska Knights hockey team so readers may see some familiar names from some of the author’s other books. This holiday romance is closed-door.
It is the holiday season in Cobbington and shenanigans are afoot. Our Marry Little Christmas has a little bit of something for everyone - small town Christmas, matchmaker/mail-order bride, hockey (meddling teammates included). While the MCs knew each in college, they don’t have a romantic history. I liked the slow progression of their relationship. This was just the perfect, low-angst holiday read.
This is a clean hockey romance. It is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone.
Bree heads back to her hometown in Cobbiton. Her friend dares her to kiss the next person who opens the door of her apartment. She does and realizes it is Fletch, the guy in college who always teased her and said he's marry her someday. Bree is in financial straits and Fletch doesn't seem to follow through on things. His hockey team and her friend have them sign up to be be mail order matches. The contract actually has them married. Can they make it through the 30 days so they don't lose money?
This was such a cute story. I liked how they knew each other before and had crushes back then but wouldn't admit it. I also really liked how Fletch pulls Bree out of her serious nature. A very good read and I always love Christmas romances.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was an absolute delight and a truly great read—I did not want to put it down! From the start, I was completely invested in Bree and Fletch's story.
What made this book so captivating was the believable and sweet progression of their relationship. The authors set up a fantastic "fake relationship" premise with the mail-order bride mix-up and "forced proximity," but the emotional connection between the two main characters felt completely genuine. Fletch, the He falls first hockey player, and Bree, the romance writer who doesn't believe in love, had a fantastic chemistry that made every step of their journey swoon-worthy.
If you love a clean, closed-door holiday romcom with a reverse Grinchy sunshine hero, this is your next must-read! The small-town festivities and big Christmas grand gesture were the perfect finish to a wonderful story. Highly recommend!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
If you want a modern day “mail-order” bride using an app, then grab this book. It was such a fun twist on a marriage of convenience. It has hockey, small town, college nemesis, a surprise marriage of convenience/fake and more!
Fletch and Bree are so much fun! He’s a bunch of sunshine and she’s a grump coming back into town to sell her parents home. The dynamic with these two was great. He always wanted to ask her out, but one stupid line in college lost him that chance. Will these two get their chance?
You’ll Find •Fake relationships •Mail order bride with a twist •Small town holiday festivities •Reverse Grinchy sunshine •Brainy versus athlete •Slow burn •Forced proximity •He falls first •No third act break up •Big Christmas grand gesture •Closed-door /open heart romance with all the feels.

This is a darling holiday read. Have you ever wondered if an author lives any of the stories they write? Well this story fits the bill. Bree is in a bit of a writers stump, and running short on funds when she returns to her hometown in hopes of saving money and meeting her deadline. Fletch was injured, he is now hoping his coach will clear him to get back on the ice and play hockey. Bree and Fletch knew each other in college. Neither thought they would ever see the other again, but as fate would have it, they meet again in a most unconventional way. The story had so many cute and fun scenes that brought the story to life. You felt like the characters could be your best friend. It is a clean, no bad language, charming read. There are characters mentioned from other books, but it can be read as a standalone.
Such a delightful read I loved that this mail-order bride story had a modern day twist. This was a kisses only hockey romcom with Fletch being a fun loving guy who felt like he was missing that special someone in his life. Then enters Bree who has history with him from their college days and things start to get interesting. Both signing up for the Heartland Happily Ever After Modern Matchmaking Service they find themselves in a 30 day trial marriage. With close proximity, some community projects plus a cute little dog romantic feelings eventuate between them. Will they go their separate ways at the end of the contract of can they make this a true marriage? Great read, I sure did enjoy this Christmas story.
This was such a fun, cute story about Fletch, a hockey player and Bree, an author suffering from writer's block and why not write about what she knew and that was the problem. She really didn't know about love or mail-order brides until her friend signed her up for Heartland Happily Ever After. Fletch lost a bet with his teammates and they signed him up for Heartland Happily Ever After too. It was a mail-order bride matchmaking service. Fletch and Bree agreed to the "fake " match but found out the contract they had signed was legally binding and they were now married. It was fun to see what they would do about it. I received an advance copy of this book, and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
A story to make you smile. Bree is a romance author who doesn’t believe in love and is writing a mail order bride story. Her friend talks her into signing up to being a mail order bride for research. Fletch is a hockey player who lost a bet, so his teammates registered him for the service. They both met when in college and she interviewed him and said, “I’m going to marry that woman someday.” Well, they are matched but don’t realize what they really signed, so the fun begins. Great banter, so sweet and swoony, a stray dog, mail order bride, one bed all makes for a story that made me smile constantly, laugh out loud and not want to put the book down, great read!
I absolutely loved this book! I adored the entire premise: a romance author that doesn't believe in romance signs up for a mail order bride program. A hockey player that hasn't found the right woman loses a bet and signs up for a mail order bride program. The twist? Each of these characters has secretly liked the other...they knew each other in college. But a miscommunication keeps them apart.
They each have their own reasons for signing up, but the feelings are all too real when they spend time together.
A cute, sweet story, perfect for a winter's night!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fletch and Bree were a perfect love story just waiting to happen! I loved their history with each other and how they made a home for themselves together, quietly supporting and loving each other through everything.
Fletch was such a sweetheart through and through! I loved how much he went out of his way to show Bree how she deserved to be loved.
And I loved that Bree was a writer but experiencing love in real life for the first time! It was a wonderful journey to see her open up, be brave and put herself out there to love Fletch back!
Our Marry Little Christmas is a heartwarming, hockey, romantic comedy with Hallmark vibes! As always, Ms. Hall has created wonderful characters that I would like to meet. One scene stealing character is the stray dog that remains nameless for so long. I loved watching Bree and Fletch work together on the toy drive and the pageant. They are caught up in the magic of Christmas and just may discover than the matchmaking agency got things right! Come back to Cobbiton so you do not miss this delightful, well written book. There are so many swoony scenes as these two discover they just might be soulmates.
Our Marry Little Christmas is just the sweetest fake marriage, holiday romance.
Bree, a struggling romance author, doesn't believe in love, nor does she like the holidays. Short on cash, she decides a trip home for Christmas is just what she needs to shake off writer's block and save her career.
For research purposes, Bree's friend convinces her to sign up for a local real-life mail-order bride service. Unbeknownst to her, Bree's college nemesis, Fletcher, also registers for the service after losing a bet to his teammates, and they're matched up.
Back in college, he told Bree when she interviewed him for the school paper that he was going to marry her someday, and those words have haunted them both. Now it's Fletch's chance to prove to her that they're meant to be.
Needing the real mail-order bride experience, Bree moves into Fletch's home. What she doesn't expect is for Fletch to take care of her while she's living with him.
Fletch has a heart of gold, and he's determined for Bree to have a change of heart about him and Christmas before their time together expires.
A few things I love about Our Marry Little Christmas:
• Fletch shows how much he cares for Bree through his actions. • He consistently lifts her up. • No third act break-up. • The stray dog who becomes a part of their family. • The evolution of Bree and her mother's relationship throughout the book. • The overall theme of hope and second chances.
Themes & Tropes: • Fake relationship • Sports romance • Hockey player x romance author • Forced proximity • Opposites attract • Grumpy (her) x sunshine (him)
There is something warm, cozy, and sweetly romantic reading an Ellie Hall book. She never fails to create a desire in me to see my husband for the good, sweet, Godly man he is. He doesn't do typical romance, but he creates it in his own sweet, loving way. My man isn't a famous hockey player or even a cowboy. 😉 He's a down-to-earth small town Pastor, Dad, brother, uncle, nephew, friend, and...like Fletch, loving husband.

I absolutely adore Ellie Hall, and this sweet hockey romcom was another total winner for me! Since becoming a huge hockey fan myself, I really enjoy these types of stories, and this one was super cute, giving me all the feels with its unique 'mail-order' twist. The chemistry between the characters was incredibly sweet and genuine throughout the whole book. It’s exactly the kind of fun, heartwarming read I’ve come to expect from this author.

Bree and Fletch have known each other since college when he announced to everyone that " I am going to marry you someday". And he is making it come true now when they are both tricked into a legal marriage for the holidays. She is now an author that has writers block, and Fletch is a hockey player who is on the injured list for a dating mistake. I love Ellie Hall books. They are sweet reads with only kissing. No sexy time.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love Fletch and Bree’s unconventional start with their accidental marriage. Seriously you will smile or laugh a lot throughout this story. Fletch is a hockey player who loses a bet, Bree is a romance writer who does not believe in love but has a book deadline coming up and if you add in a short shared history, forced to live and work together and add in the spirit of the season, you get a truly delightful and fun romance as Bree finally experiences what she writes about.
This was another hit for the Nebraska Knights and Cobbiton! Fletch and Bree are such a sweet couple. I loved the way that he saw her - the hurts and the pain that had become ingrained in her view of herself - and refused to let her settle for anything less than the best. I love the town of Cobbiton and how Ellie brings the Midwest charm to life in her stories.

Our Merry Little Christmas by Ellie Hall is a beautifully written and engaging holiday romance. The story is easy to read, with well-developed characters who feel genuine and relatable. The plot flows smoothly, blending small-town charm with a closed-door romance and a well-executed fake relationship trope. Ellie Hall delivers a heartwarming and enjoyable Christmas read that I would highly recommend to fans of clean romance and festive storytelling.
