Rate this book
"Christmas this year is going to be different, you’ll see."

In the snow-covered streets of Sapporo, Christmas is a time of colorful illumination and festive cheer. But for university student Jun, the snowy season is a stark reminder of the tragic car accident that claimed his mother's life ten years ago. Since then, his father, Kazuya, has buried himself in his snowplowing business, clinging to a tradition of volunteering at the Munich Christmas market—a cherished spot of his late wife. Caught in their shared grief, father and son have drifted apart, losing touch with the true spirit of Christmas—hope, love, and connection.

This year, an unexpected encounter with Binh from Vietnam ignites a spark of her infectious joy and unique perspective on life challenge Jun to view the world anew. Meanwhile, Kazuya is drawn to a kind-hearted postcard seller at the market, rekindling feelings he thought were long lost.

Set in white winter Japan, this story weaves a tale of healing, faith, and the rejuvenating power of love. As Jun and Kazuya navigate their emotional journey, they find that this Christmas might just offer them a chance to open their hearts once more and resurrect the true meaning of the season.

A gentle, heartfelt read that captures the true spirit of Christmas—beautiful, emotional, and inspiring.

The descriptions of winter in Sapporo are stunning, and the message of hope shines brightly throughout. It reminds you that even after the coldest winters in life, love and faith can make your heart bloom again.

My fiancée is an avid book reader and she recommended it to me. She is very picky with the book she reads, but she loved it, so I was excited about reading it myself.
I am glad I avoided any major spoilers because it is best to go into this fictional world almost completely blind.
I am not that into reading, so I tend to read slowly. However, once I get hooked, my pace starts getting faster and I can finish a couple of chapters more quickly. This was the case for this wonderful story which I firmly believe should be made into an anime. The characters are quirky but not one-dimensional, their struggles are realistic and I can relate with some of them - like learning Japanese.
Each chapter felt like a rollercoaster with the tone shifting from sad, to hilarious, to wholesome, to serious, etc. I love this kind of pacing because it makes the plot easy to follow for any reader regardless of their reading speed or whether they know about Japanese culture, Sapporo, or even Christmas for that matter. Also, the inclusion of Japanese words makes the contents educational for Japan enthusiasts and relatable for foreigners who have been living in Japan for a long time.
Reading this book started as a promise to support a friend, but it grew to me genuinely wanting to keep turing the pages to see where the story will go with each chapter. My only criticism is that I think the ending could have been fleshed out with a few more chapters.
I wanted to start reading more and this was a great start for me to get back into this activity. I pray it could be adapted into a movie or an anime movie.

The author really knew how to capture the hearts of her readers by carefully and thoughtfully writing down realistic emotions shown in each character in the book. I could tell—I cried a few times while reading. It’s Snowing in Sapporo again Today’s author showed true devotion in her faith and beliefs through this book. Full of hope! Hoping for a sequel!
