This is the perfect short obsessed shifter romance. It has all the shifter tropes we love, plus a head strong FMC. It was sexy and highly entertaining. I highly recommend.
Dark Obsession is Salem and Peach’s story❣️ Peach is a shifter, but she spends her days running her bakery and trying to keep her brother on the straight and narrow. When a male enters her bakery, they both immediately know that they are mates. But when she learns his name, she flees😳
Not an easy relationship to foster with someone so unhinged, but Salem definitely keeps us on our toes….expect the unexpected😁 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review😍
"Dark Obsession delivered everything I love in this gripping, dynamic short story. I was instantly hooked from the very first moment Salem walked into Peach's bakery for more than just strawberry cheesecake. Salem and Peach's love story is incredibly sweet, which might be hard to believe considering Salem is such a scary guy. The shifter clearly has a loyal, kind side, but don't be fooled—Salem remains super frightening and has no remorse for his actions towards anyone he doesn't care about. I love Peach as his mate. She's perfect and not at all what I expected his Mate to be like. I love the story. I'm sad this is the last book in the series because I love getting lost in their realms with characters I adore."
This was a short shifter semi dark romance. I guess you can say it can be a standalone but the books before this will tell you more about the family. I guess he is the darkest of the brothers if I’m going by this book. I feel like this could have been a lot more dark to go with the title. I’d normally want more story line but I’m kind of glad this was a short story.
I listened to Dark Obsession in audiobook format but ultimately couldn’t finish it. The narrators’ performances felt overly dramatic, almost exaggerated to the point of sounding juvenile, which made it difficult to stay engaged. The writing itself also came across as quite basic, as if the story were aimed at a much younger audience. As someone over 45, I found it hard to connect with either the tone or the delivery. Though I normally really enjoy this genre, this one is a pass for me.
Meh, this series and author has been less than stellar for me. And I figured after the last book I was for sure done but Salem did always intrigue me.
It was really fast paced. I don't remember if the previous books were or this one was just shorter than the others. Though I guess it worked for Salem and his obsessiveness tbh.
I found it a bit boring and skimmed a bit. Salem becomes obsessed, he stalks, his mate denies him, he kidnaps her, she gives in, then he's merely letting her grow comfortable enough to bond with her. That's it. Stale drama with her brother which amounts to nothing and went no where. FMC keeps her big scary magic secret the entire time and it really wasn't all that scary. Yes, it def could have been used as a weapon and I understood not letting anyone know what it was for that reason but it just wasn't as big and scary as she made it out to be. She claimed it was a darkness in her but she wasn't the dark type, so unless it went unmentioned that her magic somehow tried to tempt or lure her into using it for nefarious purposes then I don't get it 🤷🏻♀️
And how she just kicked her brother out of her life without trying to fix things was really weird and harsh imo. Seemed a little abrupt considering how she was doing everything to protect him the entire book considering his history with Salem. With her power she basically told him to leave and never return. When she could have easily told him to simply forget Salem ever beat him up, so they could start fresh and to never ask her for money again and stop borrowing money. That would have solved all their issues and she'd have got to keep her brother in her life. Because for someone who claimed he was her only living family and her pack, she sure kicked him to the curb and chose Salem over him real quick.
Plus, Salem just killing absolutely anyone who, to his own warped judgement, offended his mate or even flirted with her, deserved to die. And he did in fact kill them for literally nothing. That was just, honestly not endearing at all. Like I knew he was unhinged and a bit crazy but y'all that was not okay. Especially him hiding and lying about it to his mate. She was a bit dumb not to catch his lies tbh and act like he wasn't that bad when she totally knew he was.
Anyway, I'm sure fans of this author and this series will enjoy how it wrapped what I assume was the last book. Me, not so much.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to read Dark Obsession by Chantal Fernando, narrated by Mollie Stark and Elliott Sands, in exchange for my honest review.
I went into Dark Obsession genuinely excited. Fated mates, a ruthless shifter, a baker-by-day/weapon-by-night heroine? On paper, this should have been exactly my kind of dark romantasy. Unfortunately, the audiobook experience made this a real struggle for me.
The male narrator’s performance felt overly dramatic, pulling me out of the story rather than drawing me in. There were moments where the pitch shifts, accents, and slowed delivery felt exaggerated to the point of being distracting. Instead of feeling the intensity of Salem’s character, I found myself cringing through nearly all the scenes. For a character described as cold, unhinged, and dangerously powerful, I expected a deeper, more gravelly, commanding tone. The voice didn’t match the menace or presence the MMC was supposed to carry. I also struggled with the portrayal of the FMC during his chapters, which made it harder to stay immersed.
As for the story itself, it moves very quickly. Within the first few pages, we jump straight into explicit territory. I don’t mind spice (at all), but I personally prefer some buildup—time to establish the characters, tension, and emotional stakes before we go from zero to feral. The pacing left little room for that anticipation.
While I understand this is a novella, the plot still needs a clear arc. I kept waiting for a central conflict or true antagonist to anchor the story, or for a moment where Salem would rise to the occasion in a way that made the romance feel earned and transformative. That payoff never quite landed for me.
Peach is portrayed as sweet and innocent, with a hidden edge, and Salem is introduced as a feared assassin who was removed from his role under mysterious circumstances, but those elements felt underdeveloped. One of the biggest hurdles for me was the emotional logic: Salem deeply loves his siblings, yet Peach is expected to accept him as her mate after he tortured her brother. That conflict had enormous potential for tension, angst, and moral reckoning, but instead, it felt brushed aside. Had the roles been reversed, I suspect we would have seen far more vengeance or emotional fallout. The lack of that depth made the relationship feel unbalanced and, ultimately, unconvincing.
Overall, the story felt incomplete. There wasn’t enough new or distinctive worldbuilding or character development to make it stand out in a genre that’s already packed with morally gray shifters and fated mate dynamics.
The premise had promise, but for me, it lacked the emotional depth, cohesion, and narrative weight I look for in adult dark romantasy.
Dark Obsession completely consumed me from the opening scene. The second Salem steps into Peach’s bakery—with motives that go far beyond dessert—I knew I wasn’t putting this story down. What unfolds is intense, unpredictable, and strangely tender in all the best ways.
Salem is not your typical romantic lead. At 150 years old, he’s lethal, feared, and unapologetically ruthless. Barred from the Assassins Academy because his brutality crossed too many lines, he’s one of the most powerful shifters in the realm and deeply entangled in dangerous political games alongside his triplet brothers and siblings. He’s obsessive, morally gray (honestly, charcoal), and fully comfortable being the villain in anyone’s story—unless you’re part of his family… or his mate.
Peach could not be a more unexpected match for him. At 40, she’s built a quiet life running her bakery, protecting her brother Jagger, and keeping her wolf—and her secrets—close to her chest. The instant recognition of the mate bond between them is undeniable, but that doesn’t mean she’s willing to forgive and forget. Especially not after Salem lays hands on her brother. Their connection may be fated, but trust? That has to be earned the hard way.
What I loved most was how the author balances Salem’s unhinged intensity with flashes of devotion that are almost disarming. He doesn’t soften for the world. He doesn’t repent. But when it comes to Peach, his possessiveness shifts into something fiercely protective. His internal thoughts are chaotic, darkly funny, and completely captivating. Watching him try to navigate a relationship when he’s used to solving problems with violence made for delicious tension.
Peach is sunshine wrapped around steel. She’s warm without being naive, compassionate without being weak, and she never lets Salem forget that being her mate doesn’t mean owning her. Their banter is sharp, their chemistry explosive, and the push-and-pull between sweetness and danger keeps every page crackling.
Though it’s a shorter installment, it delivers everything: heat, humor, family dynamics, and a hard-earned happily-ever-after that feels satisfying rather than simple. The emotional payoff hit just right, and that final glimpse into their future left me smiling—and a little heartbroken that this chapter in the series has come to an end.
If you love fated mates, dangerously obsessive heroes, strong heroines who hold their ground, and romance that blends darkness with devotion, this story is an absolute must. I wasn’t sure Salem could win me over, but by the end? I was completely, hopelessly sold.
My Review: Dark Obsession by Chantal Fernando is book #6 in the Fated Love series. The audiobook is scheduled for release on 2/24/26.
About the Book: "...my fated mate...A killer.
...the fates gave him to me?
...Salem..."
In My Own Words: An assassin x a baker must decide if they will bond themselves to each other.
About the Characters: Salem and Peach were polar opposites. Where she was sweet and wholesome, he was hard and a just step away from rage. Where he was family oriented and protective of his own, she was trying to deal with a sibling who was selfish and out of his depth. Where he was experienced in the art of sensuality, she was a V-card holder with a keen, yet hesitant interest in her mate. Still, they were drawn to each other, regardless of who or what stood in their way.
About the Audiobook: This novella was narrated by Mollie Stark and Elliott Sands. This duo brought out all the sexy and the steely rawness needed to effectively bring the story to life.
My Final Say: This was a super quick, super saucy short. It was easy to follow. I was definitely entertained.
I listened to this book, despite not having read the preceding books. I was able to follow along without any difficulty. There were a few key characters that made me want to check out their stories, and so I shall.
Other: Readers who enjoy supernatural romances, paranormal play, dark & broody protagonists who mix and mate with sunshine-sweet protagonists, dirty talking + spice, and found family scenarios should like this story.
Thank you to the author, to the publisher (Dreamscape Media), and to NetGalley for granting access to an ALC of this title in exchange for an honest critique. I was thoroughly entertained by the audio experience. I look forward to learning more about this series. I appreciate the opportunity.
“I might be a monster but I’m her monster.” - Salem 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
This book gave me everything I craved and more. I received an ALC copy of this book from netgalley and I am leaving my honest review, which isn't hard to do because I COULD NOT STOP LISTENING TO THEM.
Salem is the biggest and baddest in all the kingdoms. An assassin who got kicked out of the assassins group because he was too much...too dark...too powerful (I mean he can go invisible for Christmas sake)...too dangerous. Except when it comes to one special person. Peach, his fated mate.
Peach is just a normal wolf shifter who owns a bakery, she even keeps her magic hidden. But fates are a fickle thing and she is paired with the big baddie, who also happens to be the one who assaulted her brother.
“It was just a little torture…he needs to get over it.” -Salem when talking about the one time he tortured peach’s brother 🤣🤣🤣
One of my favorite parts in the story... He chains her and cuffs her to the bed so that he doesn't have to be at home alone without his fated mate. He just wants to spend time with her, in his own twisted Salem way 🤣🤣🤣he thinks she’s basically not a prisoner but a guest 🤣🤣🤣
This book has witty banter, deep growth for the characters, as well as some incredibly delicious smut scenes that when listening made me check my headphones multiple times to make sure no one else could hear what I was hearing.
Fated Mates Forced Proximity He Stalks Her Grumy x Sunshine Virgin FMC
Also this is an incredible quote and made me love love love this author. I know need to read or listen to her entire backlist!!!
“Salem put me in a coma from multiple orgasms, snuck out and went on a fucking side quest to hurt whoever made me cry!!” Peach talking about the time Salem cornered her coworker about the shifter customer who made her cry the day prior.
🎧 Audio Review: Wasn’t really a fan of the narration/voices, but I also wasn’t a fan of the characters or dialogue.
📝 Story Review: Sadly this one just wasn’t a good fit for me. I do enjoy the fated mate trope, but I like for it to have some relationship building/getting to know you phase. In this story, it’s just instant lust due to being fated mates. I didn’t feel any connection between the MC’s other than that mate bond that made them want each other. Also, the dialogue was not my cup of tea. It felt rather juvenile and kinda cringe 😬.
This is part of a series, the final book I think? And I did not read the other books, so I’d say this one can be read as a standalone. It’s less than 150 pgs and moves very fast. - Overall, I felt it would’ve been better with more character depth and relationship building, as well as more meaningful dialogue.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️ 2/5 Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 4/5

I had the honor of beta reading Dark Obsession and let me tell you... It’s fantastic!
This short, spicy read is packed with humor, banter, and the perfect HEA. Chantal Fernando continues to be one of my most-read authors this year, and considering I usually prefer closed-door romance, that’s saying a lot. At this point, there’s literally nothing she could write that I wouldn’t devour.
The Fated Mates series is one of my absolute favorites by her, and I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure Salem would grow on me. I expected to enjoy the story but be “meh” about the MMC because throughout the series, Salem initially felt a little too psycho to induce my swoon levels… even by my standards 🤣. (And well, if you’ve read Exiled Prince, you’ll understand my obsession with Bane 🤭😍)
But boy was I wrong! The way Chantal writes MMCs makes me swoon over even the reddest of flags! Don’t get me wrong, Bane will always be my number one 🤭, but Salem and his psycho ways eventually won me over... kicking feet, squealing, and all. 🤭 As usual, Chantal Fernando has that uncanny ability to make even the darkest MMCs come with a cinnamon-roll side, and I love it.
Peach, with her sunshine and sass, was an absolute delight, and that bonus scene🥵👀😍 left me begging for more of this series.
From fated mates to witty banter to all the spice and swoon, this series is an absolute blast. If you haven’t read the Fated Mates series yet, it needs to be on your TBR yesterday.
Huge thanks to Chantal Fernando for letting me be an early reader!
“Dark Obsession” delivers an electrifying jolt to the fated mates romance genre with its unconventional characters and addictive pacing. The story centers on the captivating dynamic between Peach—ever sweet, radiant, and the embodiment of sunshine—and Salem, an ex-assassin whose unhinged, possessive nature sets the stage for a truly wild ride.
Salem’s intensity is palpable. He's controlling, jealous, and dangerously obsessed with Peach, but these dark elements are balanced by unexpected moments of genuine sweetness and care directed solely toward Peach and his family. These redeeming glimpses offer depth to Salem’s character, making his love for Peach both unsettling and oddly tender.
Despite its brevity, the story wastes no time pulling readers in, keeping the adrenaline high from start to finish. The chemistry between Peach and Salem sizzles, with plenty of spice woven into their interactions—enough to satisfy fans of steamy romance. The fated mates trope is given a fresh, edgy twist through the couple's dynamic, making the book stand out among short romance stories.
Overall, “Dark Obsession” is a perfect pick for those looking for a quick, intense read with memorable characters, steamy scenes, and an unapologetically fast pace. If you like your romances with a dash of darkness and a whole lot of heat, Salem and Peach’s story is sure to leave you wanting more.
Thanks to the author for sending me a copy of the book. This is my honest review.
This is the last book in this series and I really sad about it, I love this series and these characters, well maybe not crazy self, but the others, yes.
This is one of the shorter books similar to August’s book length, Caged Love, which I somewhat expected since Salem’s backstory was pretty much explained in Exiled Prince. Also, side note, you should read the previous books in this series especially Masked Fate and Exiled Prince to fully under Salem, his brothers essentially his whole family and life.
Salem is basically a psychopath assassin with hair trigger temper for killing and his fated mate is Peach a baker; so naturally things don’t go great right from the start when she learns he tortured her older brother for information. I will say I was surprised by Salem’s restraint when it came to Peach mind you it didn’t last long, but the fact that he had any was amazing. I liked Peach she seemed sweet and kind the complete opposite of Salem and perhaps that why they worked perfectly, but she was a bit of pushover for both Salem and her brother, it did get annoying for me.
Since the book was quite short things progressed quickly and with Salem’s antics it was a bit unbelievable for me how their relationship unfolded. Also, the typos were distracting, for example, Milana’s mate is August not Soren and Salem tortured Peach’s “older” brother not her “younger” brother. Then the ending was abruptly resolved it was like I blinked and I missed it.
I did enjoy seeing my favorite characters from the other books, but I wish we got more of epilogue since this was the last book. I wonder if Astrid’s brothers will get their own books?
The extra scene for Salem’s brothers was nice, but also a bit quick so I didn’t get to really enjoy it to its full potential.
This is a short story about our FMC Peach and MMC Salem. The synopsis sounded like it had all the things, fated mates, paranormal, FMC shifter, and baker whilst our MMC is unhinged with a scary reputation and history with his mates brother. Things went downhill quickly! Honestly, if this had been a full-length book, I would have DNFd as the narration was not good. I eceb asked my hubby to listen for a second opinion and he agreed it was just bad. It's hard to focus on the story when you are cringing so hard at the male narrator doing some very weird, high pitch voices and accents whilst talking in slow motion at other times. The story itself also did not make much sense or deliver. I do not do spoiler reviews and being short I cant say much except certian plot points like her relationship with her brother and choices Peach made make zero sense and the romance was okay. I love a short story and Novellas, but this one was just not for me. I do know this author has quite a following though so if you are a fan, then I would definitely say give it a try, but if you can, I would recommend the physical/ebook over audio. Narrators were Mollie Stark and Elliott Sands, both new to me. Thank you netgalley and rbmedia for the ALC. Usually, rbmedia is very reliable for great audio. The ALC before this one was from them it was a 5 star live rent free in my head read!!! So definitely look out for them!!
So... this is the story of Peach and Salem. Peach is a peach. By day she runs the Best Bakery in town. By night... well, she could be lethal.
Salem is a shape-shifter... but the biggest, meanest, most unhinged type... and when he enters Peach's bakery, well, he knows... He's just met his mate!
And... she's all for it! Until he says his name...
At first, she runs... but where can she go? And, if they are fated??? What can she do??
But, she is worried for her family...
This was sweet, and scary, and hot... and spicy too!
Short and sweet... and I loved it! But, I really didn't like Salem's narrator. He seemed SOOO stuck up and nasty.... but I guess that just goes with the territory! Peach, was really just a peach!
This one was released yesterday, 2/24/26... so look for it on shelves now!
4 stars for me!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
#DarkObsession by @ChantalFernando and narrated by @MollieStark and @ElliottSands. Of note: this is part of a series, but I don't think you need to read them in order.

🎧 Audiobook Review: Dark Obsession by Chantal Fernando
The narration of Dark Obsession truly elevates this story to another level. Mollie Stark and Elliott Sands both deliver strong, engaging performances that bring Salem and Peach to life in a way that feels authentic and immersive. Their voices matched the characters I had pictured in my head perfectly — which doesn’t always happen, but when it does, it makes the listening experience so much more satisfying.
As for the story itself, it’s well written and flows smoothly. The central conflict revolves mostly around the bonding issue, so it’s more character-driven than plot-heavy. While the intimate scenes are open-door, they felt a bit anti-climactic for me personally. I was hoping for a little more emotional intensity to match the buildup.
That said, I genuinely think Salem and Peach are a good match. Their dynamic works, and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop.
Overall, this is a solid audiobook, and the narration is what truly makes it shine. If you’re someone who values strong voice performances, this one is definitely worth the listen.
Thank you Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for giving me this title in exchange for an honest review. This plays no part in how I rated this title. 3 stars
I have read every book in the Fated Love series, and Chantal Fernando truly never lets us down. *Dark Obsession* delivers everything I’ve come to expect from this world—intensity, fate-driven tension, and a hero who is equal parts terrifying and irresistible.
Salem is not your soft, broody shifter. He is ruthless. Unhinged. Cold in a way that feels bone-deep. And of course the fates decide he deserves a mate who bakes yummy treats in the daylight and can become a weapon in the dark. The contrast between them is delicious. The chemistry is immediate, volatile, and wrapped in that addictive fated-mate pull.
I loved that the heroine isn’t weak or naïve. She understands exactly what kind of monster she’s been handed and chooses him anyway. Together, they are chaos in the best way.
The audio elevated the story even more. Mollie Stark brought such strength and layered emotion to the heroine, while Elliott Sands captured Salem’s dangerous edge perfectly. His performance especially leaned into that cold, lethal energy that makes you question your life choices… in a good way.
Four stars only because I always crave just a little more depth and time with these characters—but as book six, this is another strong, addictive addition to a series I will keep devouring.
Salem (age 150) is an assassin, a killer, and his family is involved in kingdom politics. He can no longer participate in the Assassins Academy due to his violent nature. He is one of the strongest shifters in the realm. He is a triplet with brothers Silver and Sage. He is also close with sister Saylor and other brother Shadow.
Peach (age 40) is a sweet bakery owner and also a shifter wolf. She knows Salem is her mate as soon as she sees him. But he beat up her brother Jagger so she refuses to be with him, as well as a secret she is also hiding.
Salem is truly unhinged and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. I loved his inner monologue and lack of concern in general unless it related to his family or Peach. “I don’t care how angry she is. She’s angry in our home, where she belongs”
Some spicy scenes indeed and I always love a Virgin h. Peach’s love and acceptance really is what Salem needs and they are so cute together.
This is my first book by this author and I was able to follow along fine and am intrigued by the prior couples. I do wish that for the final book in a series there was more of an epilogue.
@authorchantalfernando releases the 6th and final book in her Fated Love Series!
Thanks to the author for sending me a copy of the book. This is my honest review.
A long time unhinged fan favorite, Salem, meets his mate. She is everything you would hope for and so much more!
Salem is so… Salem… if you know you know. He is unhinged, protective, possessive and dominant! To him Stalking and Kidnapping are just a normal day occurrence! lol
The epilogue of this book puts the perfect ending bow on the series! There is definitely room for a next generation series at a later date!
Blurb: l’ve dreamed about the day I’d finally meet my fated mate. I just never expected him to be the most ruthless shifter that ever existed. A killer. Unhinged. Cold and broken. And the fates gave him to me? In the light, I bake sweet treats. In the dark, I’m a weapon. And in the hands of someone like Salem? RIP the realm. — ❤️One bed trope 🖤Romantasy 🩶Stalking/ Kidnapping ❤️🩹Found family ❤️🔥Spice ❣️HEA 🐺Possessive OTT unhinged shifter 🔒Fated mates 💝Virgin FMC

Audio or book? =I would recommend the book as the voice actors aren’t all well cast in this series. For this book in particular the male narrator was just rubbish at spreading his characters and point blank could not come across as sexy or alluring in the steamier scenes.
Absolutely love this series, they can all be read as standalone really easily however I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you go from the beginning because all of the characters are so different and brilliant in their own right! This was a great edition, I just wish it was longer, as with the previous 3 books I wanted more! I wanted stories as long as the first 2 books! These are not smut reads, yes they a spicy but there is sooooo much plot in them that they really are incredible books! One of my fave series of all time!
I love seeing what all the characters are up to now so I wish we had more of that. I’m sooooo hoping the next book will be a really long one what with all the new faces arriving!
Salem meets Peach after his dreams are destroyed, and he walks into her bakery.
“I’ve waited my whole life for you, Peach. It’s not fast enough.” One thing I don’t understand is the fated mates thing. But, he’s been betrothed/hooked up with anyone and everyone… I kind of feel that there is no value in the bond if he was willing to forsake it. So why is it so important to them when they finally meet their mate??? I mean, if he had married/mated with Pandora, what would have happened to Peach??? It was touch on, but not really addressed...
Salem is unhinged, going on his little murder-y sprees just because someone looks at her wrong. Plenty of spice. A lot of interaction with the other characters and members of his family. Plenty of humorous moments too - both are insanely jealous, and their antics cracked me up.
How the actual f*** did this get so many good reviews? I feel like I read something different.
This immediately starts off with what feels like a checklist of things vomited at my face. “I’m an asset” “I’m the best” “I’m a triplet” “I have fomo” “I’m great at killing” “I have self control” “I’m different” “I don’t care about people” “I love strawberry cheesecake” “I have a mate” “I love to eat” “I want to eat her 🙀” “I want her lips around my 🍆”
It accomplishes 2 things. I’m massively turned off by the mmc. I’m massively turned off by the author.
I swear there was absolutely zero authenticity or believability in any of the writing. I felt like I was reading a rough draft of incomplete thoughts jotted down at 3am after the author woke up from a random dream and was trying to remember it. I dnf’d at 1.9% because I can’t get past the writing.
Thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the ALC. These are my own opinions. Sorry about that.
A quick read! And a delightful spicy, paranormal dark romance. I listened to the audio copy of this book and it is perfect! Narrated by Mollie Stark @molliestarknarrates and Elliott Sands, their voices draw you into the story and keep your attention until the end.
What a worldwide romance! This is fast paced and a gripping tale right from the beginning. If you like your MMC possessive to the point of nearly over bearing look no further! This was wonderful and I'm going to have to pick up the rest of the series.
This is a standalone in an interconnected series so while it can be read by itself you'll get the full effect if you read the series in order.
Thank you @authorchantalfernando as well as @dreamscape_media and @NetGalley for the audio copy of this book.
Finally the book i've been desperate for in The Fated Mates series. I have been obsessed with Salem since I first met him.
Salem is well known throughout the Kingdom for being an Assasin, a Fighter a Psychopath. His reputation precedes him for good reason.
So when Salem meets Peach she knows exactly who he is and is wary to say the least. So wary that she flees from him but that just makes Salem more determined.
I love how intense things are between them, their relationship is deeply emotional, sweet, spicy, funny and all consuming. Love Loved LOVED it. 🖤
This is my absolute favourite line from Salem it sums him up and why I love him.👌
“It was just a little torture. He needs to get over it.” 😂
The Fated Mates Series is Phenomenal, it really is a must read for any Romantasy lover.
Thanks to the author for sending me a copy of this book. This is my honest review. First off, I would say that you need to read the others in this series first. You could read this book as a stand alone, but you would miss a bit of the funny moments. Warning, this is a spicy book series, more that others from the author. In this book we see Salem finally get a mate. I love that he doesn't change completely for his mate. I do only give this book a 4 out of 5 because I felt like there should of been more. Don't get me wrong, the book is good, but I feel like there needed to be more of a battle or something. Salem is the biggest and the baddest of them all and I was waiting for some epic fight! All in all I do recommend this book. I have yet to find a book from this author that I didn't like.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ALC. These are my own honest options.
Dark Obsession by Chantal Fernando had an intriguing premise, but unfortunately, it fell flat for me.
Peach is portrayed as innocent and delicate with a secret. Salem, the hot and unhinged MMC, is introduced as a killer who was supposedly removed from his role as an assassin — but the reasoning behind that felt underdeveloped.
Overall, the story felt like it was missing a central conflict or true villain to anchor the plot. I kept expecting a moment where Salem would rise to the occasion and truly save Peach in a way that made their romance feel earned and believable, but that payoff never quite came.
I really wanted to love this one, but in the end it lacked the depth and cohesion I was hoping for in an adult dark romantasy.
