To say I’m obsessed with this book is a bit of an understatement. The humor and intrigue immediately drew me in, and the thought-provoking life lessons will surely keep you around. Courtney has such a gift of creating characters that feel real and relatable. This story had the elements of an elite 80’s or 90’s RomCom movie, coupled together with the perfect amount of rawness and depth. The relationships forged within these pages were simply the best. Also, one of the most heartwarming and inspiring epilogues I think I’ve ever read. I’m not sure I’ve ever been this upset to finish a book because I wasn’t yet ready to part with the characters.
After 20+ years of marriage, 46-year-old Claire Karadec finds herself divorced from her husband who didn’t seem to know the definition of fidelity. She’s spent her life dedicated to lifting this man up in his high profile, country club lifestyle, only to be stabbed in the back. Now it’s time to pick up her shattered pieces, step out in faith and start life over again. She starts by making a list of goals. Step one – move to Chicago for a fresh start in a new city. Immediately upon settling into her new apartment Claire starts making new friends who show her a side of herself she never knew existed. She dreams, she journals and she gets herself into plenty of laugh-out-loud first date scenarios that will have you giggling until your sides hurt. I don’t think I’ve ever rooted this hard for a romance in a book before. The FMC and MMC completely captured my heart.

It’s about found family and those people holding your hand through the storms. It’s about YOU and it’s about ME – I dare you to read through and not find a little bit of yourself within the pages. You don’t have to be middle-aged or to have gone through a tumultuous divorce to relate to the characters in this book. It’s going to touch your heart no matter where you are in life.

This is my first time reading a book by Courtney Walsh and i loved every second of it! Loved the story line and the message behind it. You’re never too old to do new things on your own or discover yourself.

Let me first start off by saying I absolutely love anything Courtney Walsh writes so it's no surprise I would love this one too. But this one gets me in the feels as a 40 something leaning into the stage of who am I outside of a wife and mother? How can I be brave in a new city? While my experiences are not the same as Claire I can relate on so many levels which probably made me love this book all the more. I laughed as Claire embarrassed herself yet again. I cried as she recognized the love her friends had for her. I rooted for her in every aspect of her life.

When I start reading a book and immediatedly it's like coming home, then I know I have a found a great read and new fav of mine - aka Brighter than Before. 5 stars.

Netgalley: Kindle - THIS WAS THE PERFECT ROMCOM. Full transparency, I thought this was a different author and that I recognized the name. But it was someone completely different who I’d actually seen on Instagram and had wondered about and WOW she did not disappoint.
This book was INCREDIBLE. The writing style was so fun. I laughed, I gasped, I got emotional, I swooned. I loved the growth of the characters throughout the book. I loved the friendships and the community and how her daughter felt like a main character just through texting (which is SO real when you live long distances from family). I feel so attached to the characters in this book- the way they showed up, rallied, and gave love was just incredible. Love love love. I will be picking up another Courtney Walsh and soon.

This was a such wholesome read 🫶🏼
As someone who enjoys Hallmark films, this was chefs kiss without the spice 🤣
I love Claire’s character development, she’s in her mid 40s, divorced, her daughter Minnie (Amelia) who is also her hype girl and best friend has supported her through everything while they were both miles apart.
It’s never too late to start again, re-build your life no matter what your age group you’re in— and Claire proved it. She’s a perfect example and she did it by picking up a blank journal and writing a list of things she wants to accomplish all thanks to her therapist to suggested it… and it worked.
She moved to a different city all on her own, she was a stranger until she met the most lovely bunch of people and found the love of her life. She went through the ups and downs but she kept pushing because not everything is perfect.
The only downside for me was the chapters felt a little too long 😅 but overall I enjoyed it.

4.75 stars 🌟 this was just too good! i sped through this because the writing and the characters were so engaging 🫂 i absolutely adored claire and have so much admiration for the journey she went through 👩🍳🚕📋 i also really loved miles and how he always saw just how amazing claire really was 🥹 the way their families meshed together was so sweet and i loved how their community came together for The Porch! this was especially good and i’m so glad i picked it up 💖

Not bad (since I read it in one sitting that should be obvious), it’s just not written for me. Found the FMC’s 23 year old daughter more interesting than her mother BUT that is not a real criticism.

I truly did like this book. This book follows a 46 year old woman named Claire, who is at her lowest in her life. She is a newly divorced woman, and her rich ex-husband cheated on her with a "younger model." So to find herself, she moves to Chicago and checks off lists she wants to accomplish.
I love following the jounary we go with Claire. I had so many empathic moments for her. I was really rooting for her. I love her new support system she finds in Chicago. I love the bad dates she goes on. I love that she knows what she wants and is using her voice, finally. Her is a green flag man, Miles, that comes around, but he does have some red in it. But that just makes Miles, as a character, have more depth.
There were some parts, I literally, eye rolled because how unrealistic some scenes were. But it did remind me of 2000s romance movies.
Overall, I love the character Claire and how she finds her worth again. I love her support system. I love her career she she finds. The new love she finds. I just love that she finds happiness. 💕

Courtney Walsh does it again and honestly, at this point I’m convinced I’d give her grocery list five stars 🤷🏼♀️. Brighter Than Before was everything I wanted and didn’t even realize I needed.
I absolutely loved Claire and Miles. Their story felt real, emotional, and deeply relatable. As a 42-year-old reader, this book spoke straight to my heart the second chances, the self-reflection, the quiet hope that life can still surprise you in the best ways. It’s one of those stories that reminds you it’s never too late to start over or choose yourself.
Courtney’s writing is warm, honest, and effortlessly engaging. She has such a gift for creating characters that feel like real people and moments that linger long after you turn the last page. This book made me smile, made me feel, and left me with that cozy, content feeling only a truly great read can give.

Brighter Than Before by Chloe Walsh is an easy 5-star read for me. I originally read this story and completely fell in love with it, so getting the chance to experience it again through audio thanks to NetGalley was such a treat.
The narrator absolutely brought this story to life in the best way. Their performance added so much depth and emotion, making an already powerful story feel even more immersive. It felt like I was experiencing everything alongside the characters all over again.
This is one of those stories that just sticks with you. The emotions, the characters, the journey it all hit just as hard the second time around. Falling in love with it twice is probably the best compliment I can give.
If you’re a fan of emotional, beautifully told stories, I highly recommend both reading and listening to this one. It’s truly something special.

Oh what a joy this was to read. Over the years Courtney Walsh has become one of my favorite authors. I can always count on her to make me either laugh, cry, or both! This new addition to her works was no exception. I especially love that Claire is 46 years old. Reading a love story from the perspective of someone out of their twenties and who has lived a fairly full life already is so refreshing! 10/10 recommend. Thank you for this one, Courtney ❤️

This story was really sweet! It was less of a romcom than I expected and more of a romance/self-discovery novel (though it did have a lot of good funny moments), but I enjoyed it nonetheless! I usually tend to avoid any sort of divorce-based storyline, but I love anything Courtney Walsh writes and was willing to give it a shot. It ended up being a really great read.
Loved the “older” (late 40s) main characters — they both were really likeable and fun. I kind of wished there were dual points of view, but I still thought Claire’s perspective (including her journal entries) was well done. I loved that Claire and Miles develop a friendship before there’s romantic interest — it really added to their relationship building and character growth. I enjoyed the side characters, also! The “found family” aspect of this story was sweet and added a lot to Claire’s story.
The Chicago setting was a lot of fun. I’ve loved how many of Courtney’s books have been set in the Chicago area. I know very little about that part of the country and have learned a lot about that region from her books, which is cool. Chicago is now officially on my list of cities I want to visit!

THIS WAS SO FREAKING SWEET OMG!!!!!! Such a heartwarming story about a woman trying to find herself and her place in the world after the end of her marriage. I absolutely loved this, I loved Claire and seeing her bravery and moments of joy. Also MILES???? What a a beautiful green flag man, he was actually an angel and I loved how selfless he was and how genuinely kind he was. Their friendship was everything, I loved the slow burn too.

I loved this one & absolutely inhaled it. I always enjoy Courtney Walsh's wonderful characters, humor and clean writing. I especially connected with this story because the FMC was in her mid-40s, which is so rare to find in a rom-com! I loved watching Claire fight back after a devastating divorce and show tremendous bravery through a fresh start in a new city. I loved her chemistry with Miles and both of their relationships with their young adult children. Other great things are the found family vibe, the fun plotline of starting a bakery and the humor of dating app mishaps. I smiled so much during this book!

I will read anything Courtney Walsh writes, but this one felt special. The banter reminded me of the Gilmore Girls, and the fierce friendships absolutely had me tearing up at the end.
At its core, this is a story about second chances and figuring out who you are when life doesn’t go the way you planned. The later-in-life romance was so refreshing, and I absolutely loved Claire. Her throwback humor and references were perfection.

This is my first book by Courtney, and I am immediately a fan. I adored this book; our leading lady, her daughter, and all the supporting people she meets in her life. I really enjoyed the premise and the lessons throughout the book and found myself giddy for more. I’d recommend this one to anyone that wants a sweet story with a happily ever after.

Courtney Walsh can always be defended upon to provide an uplifting, heartfelt, comedic story while keeping all her content clean! The cover design on this one was SO CUTE!
I loved Walsh’s last novel, Everything’s Coming Up Rosie and was looking forward to diving into this one. Though there were parts of the novel that didn’t hold my attention as much as I would’ve liked and some pretty boring / predictable spots, overall I enjoyed the story! Lennon was my favorite character and I liked the community-oriented apartment complex. I loved the growth and resilience Claire displayed and really liked the whole supporting casts—her friends!

This was the perfect combination of romance and women's fiction. I love Miles (who, for whatever reason, has a Scottish accent in my head) and Claire. I admire Claire's determination to change her life and finally change her life and make it what she wants it to be. this story is absolutely filled with character growth, embracing your dreams, and learning that it's never too late to start over.

If you are looking for a "hug in a book," this is it. This story was a breath of fresh air, trading the usual twenty-something angst for the nuanced, beautiful reality of being in your 40s.
What I Loved:
• Actual Adults: It was so refreshing to read about main characters who are established adults with real-life histories. This isn’t just a "boy meets girl" story, it’s a more sophisticated look at starting over and the courage it takes to open your heart again later in life.
• The Chicago Setting: The city felt like a character itself. The author captured the Chicago atmosphere well, making the backdrop feel both vibrant and cozy.
• Wholesome Vibes: This is a very "PG" read. It has the heart and sincerity of a classic 2000s romance movie or a high-end Hallmark production. It’s sweet, sincere, and focuses heavily on the emotional connection.
• Finding Your Tribe: Beyond the romance, the theme of community was stunning. It’s a beautiful reminder that "finding your people" isn't just for teenagers, it’s a lifelong journey.
Final Thoughts: While the plot leans into that "perfect" movie logic at times, where things fall into place a little too conveniently, that’s exactly what makes it such a comforting escape. It’s a low-stress, high-reward read that will leave you smiling.

This book will captivate you with the highs and lows of recently divorced, Claire. I was left feeling all of the emotions as I read her story--joy, sadness, empathy, etc.
The author has such a great way of storytelling that will leave you giggling but also endeared to the characters.

Thank you to Net Galley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for the ALC of this title. Somehow I have never read a book by Courtney Walsh and this definitely won’t be my last.
I absolutely adored Claire and Miles. I loved that they were older (40’s) with grown children. I related so much to Claire and her story of starting over in a new place after a long marriage that ended in divorce.
We all need friends like the ones she met in her new life. Every character in this book was so lovable. I also enjoyed that this was a closed door romance. Sometimes it’s nice to have a feel good story.

💐 My thoughts:
After an unexpected betrayal and resulting divorce, it’s been a whole year and Claire is still drowning in depression and grief. At 46 years old, Claire doesn’t even know where to begin rebuilding her life. Prompted by her therapist, she writes a list of what she actually wants out of life... she gets to work on the list.
💐 This definitely had a women’s fiction feeling which I enjoyed a lot. The romance was definitely there though and was the slowest of slow burns. I really loved the slow pace of feelings between Claire and [name redacted].
💐 I loved Claire’s journey of rediscovering herself. There were some moments that maybe leaned a little bit into silly territory for me, specifically the terrible dating plotlines, that maybe felt a bit outlandish at moments. It seems common in romcoms that every man other than the MMC is an absolute buffoon…so of course the FMC would fall for the MMC when every other man is a clown. It’s a tiny pet peeve of mine that I don’t think most other readers will mind.
💐 Overall, this was a win for me, and I loved seeing a romance involving a couple in their 40s.

absolutely lovedddd this book!!! it was so so cute and i just fell in love with the characters.

This book is perfect for romance readers who are fans of Annabel Monaghan and no-spice.
Claire is a newly-divorced 40-something year old who is sick of mopping around after finding out her husband cheated on her with a younger woman. Her life has been upturned, so why not change it even more by moving states, and starting over? Her ex doesn't believe in her, but she decides that she needs to start believing in herself.
This one is very uplifting, but felt a little slow to me. I enjoyed the plot line and it was fine! Just nothing amazing to me. Maybe that is because I am under 30 and can't relate to her situation? I would recommend it tho!
