A bookstore owner’s life is upended when her car hits a man crossing the road. Little does she know, there’s far more to this shirtless stranger than meets the eye — he’s a Lord of the Fae, and he has a few tricks to play.
This heartwarming Christmas novella explores adult, serious infertility, divorce, grief, and the slow rebuilding of hope — through an older FMC rediscovering love.
Here’s what you’re getting 👇 🌿 Redheaded fae MMC 📚 Older, divorced FMC 💔 Infertility rep 🏡 Cosy bookstore setting ❄️ Holiday and winter vibes 🤣 Chaotic humour and comedy 🌀 Small town romance 🍃 Fae lore + political tension 💞 Deeply tender romance 🔥 Open-door spice (fun and meaningful) ✨ Healing + second chances 🧡 Older FMC & MMC
There was a willow I loved by a creek; sometimes I slept there. I was never afraid, alone in the dark. There was nothing to fear from water and trees and fairytales.
The real monsters were always people.
...
Can we forgive injustice? Do we accept the fate forced upon us? Should we fight, no matter the cost? How do we move on from great loss? What would you trade to relive one moment?
I write folklore and mythology inspired dark fantasy. Emphasis on dark. I don't shy away from serious issues and emotions: suicide, depression, mental illness, abuse, death, infertility, and assault are all in my books. These are not for pleasure or shock value, but because I want to write about authentic pain and suffering, and how we heal ourselves through the bad things that have been done to us.
My books will probably make you cry. I hope it helps more than it harms.
I had the privilege of reading Lily and Thorne as an ARC reader when it was initially a shorter story as part of the Bewitched Blooms anthology and it was an incredible read then, now as part of Rhi's Street Team, I am honoured to be one of the first to have read a newer and longer version which is now a standalone novella.
Lily and Thorne is probably one of my favourite stories that Rhi has ever written . It's so beautiful, equal parts heartwarming and hopeful, as it is heartbreaking and raw.
Lily is a divorced book shop owner who meets Thorne when she hits him with her car...yes really! Thorne is a handsome stranger who comes into Lily’s life arguably when she needs it most. He seems to know exactly what she’s thinking and can read her like a book. But he does have some quirks and he's definitely not your average human male.
The elements that make this book so beautiful are the emotions and connections between people that Rhi draws out in her characters. Lily has experienced loss and grief on a level you can't fully understand unless you've battled infertility yourself. She is vulnerable and slow to trust, and even when everything she's ever wanted is right in front of her, the primal need to shield her heart from disappointment is her downfall.
Corinne and Lily's friendship was a highlight of mine from the short story and I love that we get to explore this a lot more in this version. Their bond is unshakeable - they get frustrated with each other and have little arguments, but ultimately they are there for each other and a lifeline when they need it most. Some of Corinne's antics and Lily's disbelief at her best friend throughout had me absolutely howling with laughter.
And then there's the males. Thorne and Lily's ex James. Thorne is full of life - he worships the ground Lily walks on and he is funny and loving, but mostly you love him because he sees her. He sees past the armour she's built around herself. Not because he's magical, but because he looks and he listens. He's patient. He's present. He tells Lily truth's she needs to hear. He has his own reasons for not making himself vulnerable to her, but he does it anyway because love means taking chances...
James is the polar opposite. A selfish individual who blamed Lily for all their challenges, who didn't bother to try and dig beneath the surface of the emotions she showed, because he didn't want to. It's easier for him to place blame on her and call her cold and unfeeling than to process his own grief and to TRY. So that's what he does. As someone who has been through a lengthy infertility battle and early miscarriages, my heart broke and raged for Lily on multiple occasions, especially in her memory flashbacks. Her grief was my own - I know those pieces of her shattered heart and hope ,and what it's like to try and hold them and yourself together when it seems impossible all too well.
It's for all those reasons that you should pick up Lily and Thorne and Rhi's other books. Rhi's stories are all written from her heart - they explore difficult topics that are hard for most to talk about. But reading her books make me feel seen and that's why they and the characters she writes are so beautiful.
When I first read this as a short story earlier this year, I fell head over heels in love. It left me somehow fulfilled, while simultaneously craving MORE. More of these beloved characters, more of this beautiful story, and more details about where they end up, and how their lives play out. I’ve been dying to reconnect with them- as if these characters are old friends that I lost touch with. Well, with this novella length glow up, I finally got that sweet closure I’ve be so desperate for. It delivered all of my favorite pieces of the original story, with more details, more lore, and the ending I’ve waiting for.
This beautiful, heartwarming story is so different than anything this author has ever written. It takes place mostly in our world, but in the Descendants Of The Fates universe, and serves as the beginning of a series of second generation standalone spinoffs. Our FMC, Lily, is a fantasy and folklore obsessed small bookstore owner (I related to her SO hard), who’s still reeling from a painful divorce, and a lengthy battle with loss and infertility. Her shop is struggling, and she’s a bit lost, feeling overcome with self doubt and loneliness. When Thorne suddenly drops into her life… after she hits him with her car… her world is turned upside down.
Thorne, who happens to resemble a young Jamie Fraser, is exactly what Lily needs. He’s a complete mystery, having lost his memories in the crash, but he’s fascinated with Lily and everything in her world. Especially her bookshop… and Target. He challenges her, and changes her perspective, and she does the same for him.
As the story progresses, there is some adventure, and laugh out loud humor, as Lily and her bestie find themselves out of their depths, when they get a taste of the fantasy world that Thorne comes from. Though mostly based in a cozy bookstore, there are sprinklings of Fae, mythology, and magic, making it a perfectly balanced portal fantasy.
At its heart, this is a story of healing, second chance love, and finding the light in your darkest hour. I absolutely ate this up, and even with its novella length, I felt all the feels. I laughed, cried more than once, and felt so connected to Lily- her story gives me hope, and that’s no small feat. And the chemistry and spice… the heat between Lily & Thorn made my toes curl, and gave me LIFE. Looking forward to more adventures in this world, and falling just as hard for the next couple in the series.
✨While this can be read on its own, you will love it even more if you work your way through The Descendants Of The Fates series!
The dialogue was weird like conversations ended in the middle as she walked away, because she was always walking away. A few little things didn’t make sense and scenes would happen for plot with no explanation given. When she met his family and they stood there still and silent? Awkward af. Yes, that’s it the book is so so awkward. Honestly shocked I finished it.
Don’t even get me started on the ex that cheated on her and insulted her who “said he’d be a better friend to her once they were past this” like tf?? And she accepted that?! Fuck off.
At this point I’m basically addicted to cozy fantasy romance books and this one hit the spot! There was a bit too much focus on her infertility, but I understand what the author was going for.
***Infertility trigger:*** This novella includes themes of infertility, grief, and the emotional aftermath of loss.
I first read Lily & Thorne in its original, shorter form and adored it then as it was cosy, witty, and surprisingly sharp. But this expanded version? It’s something far more intimate and emotionally layered. What was once a sweet snowstorm encounter has become a fuller romantasy about grief, healing, hope, and the terrifying vulnerability of choosing to love again.
Lily who is our FMC is a divorced 30+ bookshop owner still carrying wounds she barely knows how to speak aloud. Her infertility journey is portrayed with a sensitivity that feels lived rather than performed and it provides the kind of heartbreak that sits quietly under the skin, shaping everything. Her self-doubt, her fear of being unwanted, her instinct to protect herself even when something good appears… it all rings painfully true.
Her inner monologue is still delightfully chaotic (I cackled more than once), but the emotional depth behind her humour is what makes her unforgettable. She is flawed, frightened, brave, and real.
Thorne arrives in Lily’s life by a literal collision: barefoot, half-dressed, beautiful, and utterly baffling. He’s gentle and soft-spoken, but with an undercurrent of ancient power and stubborn devotion. What makes him compelling isn’t just the magic: it’s the emotional intelligence. He sees Lily clearly, not because he’s supernatural, but because he pays attention.
His patience, his honesty, and the way he quietly refuses to let her diminish herself make him one of the most compelling MMCs I’ve read in a romantasy novella. And when the fae elements come to light: the curse, the consequences, the truth of what she means to him — the entire story shifts into mythic territory without losing its warmth.
This expanded version gives Lily space to unravel and rebuild. Her grief is not brushed aside; it is acknowledged, felt, and finally transformed into something resembling hope. The contrast between Thorne’s steady devotion and the emotional neglect of her past relationship is powerful without being heavy-handed.
Lily’s friendship with Corinne is another highlight I enjoyed. It is chaotic, loyal, hilarious, and grounding. Their bond brings so much heart to the story, especially as the stakes rise.
Despite the emotional depth, the novella remains effortlessly readable:
* cosy winter vibes * chaotic humour * portal fantasy chaos * fae lore and political tension * a deeply tender romance * open-door spice that is both fun and meaningful *older FMC & MMC
The intimacy is rooted in trust and choice, and the “three times is forever” curse adds a clever emotional layer to their connection. The final chapters — with memory loss, confession, and the slow rebuilding of belief are so heartfelt and deeply satisfying. The ending lands with warmth, hope, and that quiet, glowing feeling of having watched someone choose themselves as much as they choose love.
Lily & Thorne is a romantasy novella with a beating heart. It’s cosy, yes, and funny, yes — but at its core, it’s about healing, trust, and letting yourself imagine a future after heartbreak has taught you not to.
Beautifully written, emotionally honest, and full of magic in every sense of the word, this novella is a stunning expansion of the original story and I absolutely loved it.

Absolutely fell in love with Lily and Thorne. A deeply felt, emotional and at times hilarious story that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming.
📚Reverse grumpy sunshine ✨Fae and human 📚Infertility rep ✨Cozy small town romance 📚Cheeky best friend ✨Forced proximity during snow storm 📚One tub 🛁 ✨Lost memories 📚Spice 🌶️🌶️.5
Lily and Thorne were just what I needed on a chilly December Sunday curled up in my favorite blanket with a cup of coffee. Lily is so relatable. 35 and divorced, she has so much shame, self loathing, and distrust. Her battles with infertility and the destruction of her marriage were so real and heartbreaking. Hargadon balanced the devestation and shame with anger and hopelessness expertly. I’ve been in Lily’s shoes in a small way, and her reactions to and memories of her struggles to start a family were so relatable I was an emotional mess. Lily herself is an extremely authentic and realistic character, and while her fear of everything falling apart kept her walls up and I just wanted to shake her and say “trust him!!!” I think she was realistic in her hesitation and cynicism. And who doesn’t want to live above a dusty bookshop and have a hunky fae lord worship you… on his knees…?! 😏
Thorne was dreamy. He was also mysterious and there were times in the beginning i struggled to get a read on him. But his patience, unwavering tenderness and sunshine hope in the face of Lily’s grumpy distrust made him a swoon worthy male lead that was impossible not to root for. Their chemistry was 🔥 and the spice was 🥵
What was missing for me, if anything? Well, more story!! I wanted more. More of Lily and Thorne falling in love, being in love. I wanted answers about the curse, about the prior potential brides’ deaths (maybe coming in future books?) I wanted details about the difference of time passing in each of their realms. I’m curious how he suffered so badly when he left originally but then was ok enough to come find her again? Was the insanity temporary? Did only a few days pass for him when it was 7 months for her? And most importantly I wanted Thorne’s POV! We only get it in the prologue and I missed it throughout the story. Lily was such a complex flushed out character and I wanted his internal thoughts on her.
Still, I’ll be adding this to my shelf and my list of comfort rereads. A cozy small town romance with a sprinkle of fae tricks, curses, and amnesia 😏 4.5 ⭐️
This book was even more beautiful and delicious than its novella counterpart. I am so glad we got to spend more time with Lily and Thorne in this extended version (from 90+ pages to 230+!).
In this standalone Romantasy, that looks to be the first in an interconnected series (and spin off from Rhi’s previous series), we reside primarily in the small town of Aurora, Tennessee following the POV of our FMC (with delightful little chapter headers from the view of our MMC). Lily is a recently divorced 35 year old who is struggling to heal and maneuver through her ex-husband’s betrayal, infertility, insecurity and failing business.
When she accidentally hits a man walking through a snowstorm with her car, Lily’s life suddenly changes and she can’t decide if it’s for the better or if it’s truly real at all. Thorne is mysterious, handsome, kind, and helpful. He’s obviously hiding something. But despite her concerns, this insatiably charismatic and thoughtful man worms his way past Lily’s sky-high shields to slowly uncover and mend the broken pieces she’s clutched so tightly to her heart.
“What you think of as rough edges are simply the parts of you that were made for me.”
This story was everything I needed. So precious, emotional, moving, intentional, and thoughtful. It was spicy where it needed to be and AGONIZING right where it should’ve been. The ending was an even more painful, angst-filled, hard fought hallelujah (and the last one hurt too!), but the reward was 👩🍳👩🍳💋💋. We get so much more depth, history, and healing. I even loved all the tied-up ends between Lily’s ex and Thorne’s fae heritage. I’m so thankful we got more of these two and it left me feeling more closure than the first and increased eagerness to read anything by Rhi I can get my hands on.
Tropes you may find in LAT are forced proximity, hidden identity, medium high spice, snowed in at a bookstore, he tends to her, infertility rep, comfort/healing/acceptance, portal fantasy, second chance, outlander MMC vibes, and a HEA.
Thank you, Rhi, for the opportunity to read this gifted arc. As always, it’s a joy arc reading for you.
Rhi, you are a masterclass in taking something you've already written that was already great, and then going back and making it BETTER.
This book has now absolutely hopped up to 5 stars from my previous 4 star rating.
I had to go back and read my other review first, because, well LOL, it's been a few books since then and I needed the refresh.
But all the things I picked in the last one that didn't make sense? Now they do. Feeling like it's the middle of the movie not the start? Over it. We get the full shebang this time. Thorne giving more breadcrumbs to make it make sense how she finds his family? YES, BBY.
Basically, for every question I asked when I read this novella in the anthology originally, Rhiannon Hargadon found an answer, wove it into the original text like it's always been there, and then slammed the finished product on the table saying 'Complain NOW. I dare you.'
I am impressed. I am silenced. This is beautiful.
Lily & Thorne is the perfect first book into the House of Fieri series that makes you really want to read further once the rest of it gets written, and it also has important representation, deals with sensitive topics beautifully, and all in all just makes this holiday season more lovely.
... I do have to say, that I highly doubt there is anyone more handsome than Jamie Fraser. James Fraser is the bar at which ginger handsome is set! LOL
(and if it isn't obvious by now, I was very generously sent a copy to read by the author herself, but all opinions are my own)
3.5 stars! This is a quick and sweet read. Lily hits Thorne with her car in a snow storm and a healing journey begins.
Lily is divorced, barren, and riddled with insecurities. Thorne is a sexy redheaded Fae lord whose betrothals seem to keep dying and is banished to the human world for a while by his mother.
Lily was pretty relatable as a woman and I really appreciated her self deprecating humor. Thorne is stoic and caring and I love how deeply he feels. Corrine is the ride or die bestie that everyone deserves.
The last 30% of the book really makes the story come alive as Lily takes a leap and believes.
What could have gone better: There was just far too much constant description of how hot he was the first 30-50 pages. To the point that I knew an extreme detail how he looked, but it was almost 50% of the way into the book before I knew anything of how she looked (and the story is told from her POV). I was thankful when the over describing finally calmed down.
Thorne’s story isn’t flushed out. We never know what happened to his other betrothals. Don’t know why banishing him was seen as a good option. If his father still loves, why is he the Fae lord?
I also don’t understand why this is called a holiday fantasy romance? It happens after the holidays….
All in all, this was a fun, sweet, and quick read and I’m glad I got a chance to check it out!
I have a weird thing where I typically don't like reading books that are less than 250 pages and usually won't even pick them up if they don't meet that criterion. The premise of this one was intriguing enough that I decided to break my rule and give it a try, and I'm glad I did!
My 250-page rule is because I feel like it's hard to build realistic characters and have good character/relationship development with fewer pages than that. But this book did a good job of making Lily a complex character (if not pretty annoying at times - which is nice because it's realistic). I loved the bookstore setting and Thorne's addition to it, the snippets into Thorne's mind at the start of each chapter, and the general absurdity of everything, really. The foray into the fae world was downright hilarious.
The biggest downsides and what kept it from being a five-star read were: - James' total 180 turnaround. It felt like plot armor, because it wasn't even a little bit believable. - There were a bunch of things that felt unexplained/unresolved. I wish there had been a little bit more to the story to really wrap it up and resolve it.
Lily & Thorne is not only a story of second chances at love but a healing journey with a smexy red-headed fae. Chapter 11 is worth everything!
Rhiannon Hargadon brings the goods in a bookstore love and secret portal fantasy that will keep you wanting more.
Lily is a bookstore owner who specializes in rare fantasy books which I loved. Lily is a divorcee and has given up on finding love, someone loving her, and giving love to someone. One of her flaws is negative thinking especially about herself and her worth. Hargadon stayed true to this as this is Lily’s core flaw and it is created by her past. One thing that I hated about Lily was that she didn’t really do enough regarding her business.
Thorne’s story is that he is banished to the human world by his parents. Thorne is hilarious and says exactly what he’s thinking. He finds the best moments in the simplest things. He’s definitely made for Lily. I love that Thorne knows when she’s overthinking things or in tune with her. I hate that Thorne isn’t honest with her from the beginning. Definitely the mis-communication or lack of communication trope played a role in this story.
The world that Hargadon builds in the fae world is grotesque and not at all what I was expecting. My favorite element is that we know for a fact that we are not in the human world anymore.
Conclusion & Recommendation: Overall this story was beautiful. I love how Lily finally gives into her feelings for Thorne and they see each other for who they really are. I think that Thorne brings the healing that she needs.
Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: Absolutely amazing writing, no issues. The plot, characters, and story gave me what I hoped for.
A cozy bookstore owner accidentally hits a shirtless man with her car (because obviously she does) and SURPRISE, he’s a Lord of the Fae with secrets, politics, and far too much audacity for a small town in winter. Truly, the holiday meet-cute I didn’t know I needed.
What starts off delightfully chaotic quickly reveals a story with real emotional weight. This novella handles infertility, divorce, and grief with care and maturity, centering an older FMC who is tired, tender, and slowly relearning how to hope. Her journey feels honest, grounded, and deeply human, even when fae nonsense is happening nearby. The romance is soft but sizzling, funny but meaningful.
The MMC is redheaded, fae, slightly unhinged, and devastatingly sincere. Their connection builds with warmth and intention, delivering open-door spice that actually adds to the emotional payoff instead of stealing the spotlight. Add in a cozy bookstore, winter vibes, small-town charm, political fae tension, and genuinely laugh out loud moments, and you’ve got a novella that balances comfort and chaos beautifully. This is a story about second chances, chosen joy, and finding love after life has already wrecked you a little.
Come for the accidental fae assault. Stay for the healing, the humor, and the reminder that it’s never too late for magic or love.
I'm not really a cozy fantasy person but I absolutely loved this one! The writing was very much the same style as in Rhiannon's other books and it sucked me right in!
The characters are very relatable and extremely lovable.
It's a portal fantasy so it takes place in our world but also in the same universe as the "Descendants Of The Fates series"
The main characters' meetcute is when our FMC Lily hits our MMC Thorne with her car. At first he can't remember anything and she decides to let him stay in her bookstore till he figures things out. He is a delicious, tattooed mystery that turns out to be everything Lily needs, to pull herself together again after three years of misery.
It's a beautiful story about finding light in the dark and although it's a novella, the characters are so well written you completly get immersed anyway.
This originally was a short story in the "Bewitched Blooms" anthology but everyone who read it wanted more so Rhiannon did not dissapoint and gave us what we wanted!
💐Cozy Fantasy 💐Infertility 💐Bookshop 💐Divorced FMC 💐Tattooed Golden Retriever MMC 💐Temporary Memory Loss
“I decide he IS in a cult. It’s a no-shirt-no-shoes-and-we-eat-dirt cult. That being said, he’s also hot as hell, and when he licked his finger I lost three years of lifespan.”
I never thought that a book so short will make me feel so many things…
I read this story in one sitting. Not only that, but I was laughing, smiling, feeling like I had a comfort blanket over me. And at the end I was crying. A lot…
Lily & Thorn is not only cozy fantasy romance… It is a story about dealing with trauma, with pain, learning about trusting again and about what it means to feel loved. (There is so much more, but I can't write it without spoiling it up to you)
I really loved this story of Lily and Thorn. I requested an ARC of this book because I liked the premise, just to learn that I have it in my library in an anthology!
Almost the entire story is steamy and spicy with cozy moments, and I can fairly say that I would not mind if we get more of Thorn and Lily's Romance.
I would recommend this story to anyone who wants a short read that is cozy, spicy and don't mind some somber parts about past traumas (mostly at the end of the story).
I do not know what kind of magic writer power Rhiannon Hargadon has, but I am still in awe of how she managed, in under 250 pages, to deliver gut wrenchingly tender emotions, burn the sheets spicy scenes, and deeply satisfying character arcs. The entire plot felt incredibly well balanced, and the characters were developed in a way that made me instantly invested in their journey. I also loved that the majority of the book was told solely from Lily’s POV. Not knowing the motivations of the other characters added an extra layer of tension and buildup.
Lily and Thorne were fantastic main characters. Throughout the book, themes of healing, self acceptance, and realizing that while neither of them is perfect, they might be perfect for each other were woven in so beautifully. And those steamy moments? Hot enough to melt the snow.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the friendship between Lily and Corinne. Their interactions provided laugh out loud humor while also serving as a reminder that having someone firmly in your corner can be incredibly powerful.
This was an excellent start to a series, and I am so excited to see what is next for the House of Fieri.
Sometimes the softest stories carry the heaviest truths.
When bookstore owner Lily’s life is already unraveling—reeling from divorce, betrayal, and grief—a snowstorm changes everything when her car hits a stranger crossing the road. That stranger turns out to be Thorne, a Lord of the Fae with secrets of his own. As he recovers in Lily’s home, an unexpected bond forms—one built on quiet moments, shared pain, and the slow rebuilding of hope. But love isn’t without consequences, especially when worlds collide, patience is tested, and choices demand a price Lily may not be ready to pay.
What I loved most about this book was Lily’s emotional journey. Her struggle with self-worth, infertility, and letting herself be loved after so much hurt felt honest and deeply relatable. Thorne’s presence doesn’t magically fix her pain—but it gives her space to heal, to trust again, and to choose herself. This story blends cozy winter vibes with meaningful emotional depth in a way that feels comforting and sincere.
If you love gentle romantasy with heart, healing, and second chances, this one is worth picking up.
Would you follow love into another world—or would fear hold you back?
This a new and extended version and wow. Rhiannon I’m not sure how you squeeze so much life and depth into a novella sized story but you did and I’m 100% invested. I can’t wait to read the other connected standalones that follow this one.
I highlighted so many parts to this story. First and foremost Thorne is yummy. I’m normally a dark haired MMC fan but good Lord I may have been converted. Am I into redheads?! He just says all the right things and his devotion is next level, plus he likes to clean. I’m in love.
Lily is completely relatable and any woman who has suffered loss will see themselves in her. Whether they feel like they have lost/failed in a relationship or had the loss of a child/pregnancy or feeling like her body has failed her, it’s all so real. Thank you for writing about real women with real issues.
This story was wonderful and I highly recommend. It’s funny, exciting, sexy and deep. I cried, laughed and had to take cold showers because it just hits every note you want with a romantasy.
So this gets a 4.5 stars from me. This is longer than the original (which I liked).
This book starts off with a little from Thorne's perspective. Then it moves into Lily hitting him with her car during a winter storm. Trying to do the right thing, she calls for emergency help but due to weather, she has to try and keep him alive. As things progress, things heat up between them. She loves books, he likes to wear no shirt....... What could go wrong?? Then you have an amazing side kick who cracks me up. She has a bigger role in this book and I was cracking up at her pink sunglasses. This is much better than the first book but there are a couple scenes from the first that I liked and wish they would have been kept (like the ex walking in on the food on the floor/picnic) and where she was successful after but in this one, she was not so much.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more on this story! If you like a cute romance book, please make sure to check this one out. Its fantastic
heartwarming holiday novella that blends cozy winter vibes with tender, emotionally rich romance. The story follows Lily a small town bookstore owner whose quiet life is turned upside down when she accidentally hits a shirtless stranger with her car only to discover he’s no ordinary man, but Thorne a Lord of the Fae with secrets, power, and a mischievous streak. What begins as a chaotic, humorous meet cute unfolds into a deeply touching story about grief, divorce, infertility, and the slow, brave rebuilding of hope.Set against a snowy small town backdrop with a cozy bookstore at its heart, this novella balances fae lore and political tension with warmth and humor. Lily’s journey as an older FMC rediscovering love is handled with care and tenderness, making the romance feel earned and emotionally grounded. Add in festive holiday vibes, open door spice, and a deeply gentle love story, and Lily & Thorne becomes a perfect winter read comforting, magical, and quietly powerful.
So, I just finished Lily & Thorne by Rhiannon Hargadon, and honestly — it’s such a cozy little escape. It’s about Lily, a bookshop owner who accidentally hits a man crossing the road in a snowstorm… except he’s not just any man. There’s a magical twist that I won’t spoil, but it gives total fae fantasy vibes.
It’s short — like, a proper novella — so it’s perfect if you just want something warm and quick to read. The writing’s lovely, the setting feels like you’ve stepped straight into a storybook, and I really liked how it mixed grief, hope, and a bit of romance.
The only thing I’ll say is I wish it was longer. You definitely feel like it could’ve been a full novel. But if you love bookshop settings, a touch of fantasy, and that comforting, slightly witchy energy — this one’s worth picking up.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received this cozy contemporary romantasy in a PR Box from the author and I absolutely loved it! It was a quick read that packed in a lot of emotion, some action, and a VERY good-looking fae male.
Lily is the FMC (Female Main Character) of this story and she has been through a lot of heartbreak. Please read the trigger warnings for this book to decide if it's right for you. Her struggles were realistic and relatable. Seeing her get her happy ending was truly heartwarming, it left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside!
Thorne is a dream, not literally, he's just, in my opinion, the perfect male! He's considerate, he cleans, and he has the fae male possessiveness that I can never get enough of!
Lily & Thorne's story is magical, it's a story that every romantasy reader will adore! Add this novella to the top of your TBR!
Lily and Thorne by Rhiannon Hargadon is a fantastic, expanded version of the original novella that delivers an even richer and more immersive reading experience. The longer format allows for deeper character development, more nuanced emotions, and a fully fleshed-out world that draws you in completely. The story shines with heartfelt moments, captivating tension, and a romance that feels both authentic and compelling. Fans of the novella will appreciate the added depth, and new readers will find this a beautifully crafted standalone love story. Overall, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable and beautifully written read that solidifies its place as a must-have in romantic fantasy. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Five stars!
I feel like finding fantasy holiday reads can be difficult and this definitely scratched that itch! I normally shy away from books marketed as cozy but this one had enough stakes and emotion to keep me invested.
I got tired of Lily's inner dialogue though, she was very pessimistic and "woe is me". I understand it was a product of her tragedies but I was just exhausted being in her head. It felt repetitive and took me out of the story a bit.
The best friend Corrine was a highlight for me! She was supportive and hilarious, even when Lily was trying to push her away. She is the best friend we all deserve!
I enjoyed the writing alot and am looking forward to reading more from this author!
This was the first book I’ve read of this author and honestly I really enjoyed it. It was more a novella so of course, things could’ve been added - I feel like more time in his world would’ve been cool!
However, I loved Lily - I related to her self-doubt a lot. The trauma of her past and just not feeling like enough - that nothing good ever happens so when it does, it can’t be real.
Thorne comes into her life by getting in her way driving home - quite literally - in a snow storm. Little does she know, he just might be the thing she needs in her life. Yes he’s a Fae, royalty at that but would he give it all up for her?
I felt so many feelings reading this - sadness, happiness, excitement…all the things. I love her bff Corrine is literally ride or die - and almost does. It’s definitely worth the read! Thank you @booksirens and @rhiannonhargadon for the early read. All opinions are my own.
This is the first book I read of Rhiannon’s and it was pretty good. Lily and Thorne’s relationship was easy to follow. I felt there could have been a bit more added to Thorne’s character arc to help me understand why exactly he ended up in Lily’s world, but the information provided was decent. I also wish there was more exploration in the fae world. While I do understand James’ role in Lily’s life, I felt that his arc could have been expanded a bit too. Corinne added humor to the story and I appreciated her friendship to Lily throughout the story.
In all this book is a 4/5 for me. There is some spice in the book, but I would rate it a 1.5/5. Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series!
This was a great quick read. Went straight through it. I definitely need more about these two. Lily is having a rough time and unfortunately makes it worse for Thorne by hitting him with her car. While his presence in her life and bookstore draws people, particularly women, in she isn’t falling at his feet like he expects. That intrigues him more than anything. And once that spice hits it hits hard, I loved it. The connection that develops between the two is intense. Your heartstrings will be plucked. Just be prepared for that. But you will thank Rhiannon for it. And that ending… oh my lord of the fae!! That got me right in the feels.
Also I just wanna say Thorne is amazing. Sexy, helps, reads, and cooks?! Where can I get one?!
I read the original book as an ARC back in May and loved it but it felt a little rushed. This new, updated and improved version is everything I wished and more. The story has been expanded at the beginning which a bit of Thorne back story which hekp understand why he was there. The middle had way more spice and some really beautiful storyline. The ending of the original version stopped very quickly on a massive cliffhanger, this book added more and finished it. No obvious cliffhanger but left it open for a next book. Im so happy that I others told me to read this one else i would of missed out on everything that I wanted fron this story.
This was my first Rhiannon Hargadon book, and I read it at the perfect time. If you’re looking for a holiday cosy fantasy romance, with a cathartic approach to human struggles, this is the story for you! It blends contemporary romance with fae/ fantasy elements, to provide a beautiful love story between a fae lord and a human bookstore owner. Lily is such a refreshing FMC, because she is in her 30s and is struggling after difficult life circumstances. But Thorne drops into her life (literally) and changes everything for the better. Loved this short read, because it was packed full of goodness and reminders we could all use!
This was an emotional story about finding love after a devastating loss. I enjoyed the magic system, and the care with which the author addressed the losses Lily faced.
Sometimes I was confused about the timeline of events, and I wish it was a dual POV style book. It started off with background for Thorne, which I enjoyed, but I think I would have rated it higher if there was more of the story from Thorne's perspective.
The setting was perfect for the story, the relationship between Lily and her friends added more emotional depth to what Lily was going through. Overall, it was a good book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
