Two traumatized souls finding comfort in each other made me love this book even more! The magical realism elements caught me off guard at first, but the choose-your-own-path format made the experience so unique, especially seeing how the POV and ending changed depending on the route. I started with the dark side, then read the light side, and everything clicked. The emotional depth made me feel deeply connected to both FMCs and root hard for their happiness… only to be left absolutely wrecked by that cliffhanger.

Complicitly grabbed me by the hair and dragged me back into a town packed with secrets, trauma, and questionable coping skills, then suddenly veered off course and decided, nah, I want this story to be sapphic.
Complicitly isn’t here to give us peace; it isn’t here to finish the story the “Star-Crossed Duet” started. It gives us Luna and Veronica, and these two women add to the tension, the emotional damage already done to this town and to all of us, and yet another connection that makes us realize that ‘this is seriously going to hurt’ while we can’t stop turning the pages.
Complicitly is truly a continuation of the dark, messy, sharp-edged, rot-packed world that makes every family dynamic feel like a crime scene or one waiting to happen.
The small-town vibes add to all this. The town itself feels deeply suspicious; not one person acts normally. You can tell everyone, even Luna’s mom, has secrets, and yet the chemistry and yearning between Veronica and Luna still scream above it all.
Throughout this novella, you get very specific vibes: lesbians in serious distress, emotional and most probably legal family trauma with its own body count, secrets stacked on secrets on more secrets, grief that sits in the shadows like an unpaid debt, and romance blooming through the wreckage.
Complicitly is so intense, angsty, and dangerous, and its romance doesn’t really feel like falling in love so much as finding someone buried in that avalanche and deciding on the spur of the moment that they are yours now.
Sage truly did say, “Here you go, here’s a dark sapphic romance; it’s all about grief, secrets, trauma, and complicity. Do with it what you will,” and all I could do was pick it up, say, “Thank you,” and devour it.
I do have to recommend you read the Star-Crossed Duet before this novella, as there are characters, references, and threads that connect back to it in ways you won’t understand otherwise.
If you enjoy a dark sapphic romance, tension, emotional damage, chemistry, family secrets, dual POVs, “Choose Your Destination,” grumpy x sunshine, and you’ve already read the Star-Crossed Duet, I highly recommend picking up Complicitly ASAP!

I think I'm definitely the odd one out when it comes to this book because almost everyone I've seen talk about it absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, it just wasn't the right fit for me, and most of that comes down to the writing style.
The story is told through both Veronica's and Luna's POVs, so we're essentially following the same timeline through two different perspectives. Each chapter reveals pieces of events that weren't visible from the other character's side, which sounds really interesting in theory. The problem is that I often struggled to follow what was happening because the writing seemed far more focused on emotion than on narrative clarity.
Many scenes would end abruptly or shift without much warning, and while I think the author was intentionally trying to recreate the fragmented mindset of traumatized characters, it didn't quite work for me. Instead of feeling immersed, I often felt disoriented. There were several moments where I had to stop and reread passages because I wasn't entirely sure what had just happened. That being said, I don't think the writing is bad at all. It's clearly a deliberate stylistic choice. It just happens to be a style that doesn't really align with my personal reading preferences.
I also think that same writing style contributed to my issues with the romance. Veronica and Luna become attached to each other incredibly quickly, and I never fully bought into the emotional progression because of it. The relationship felt very insta-love coded, and the enemies-to-lovers aspect was over almost as soon as it began. Honestly, I almost wish that trope hadn't been included because the initial hostility felt very one-sided and didn't seem to stem from a particularly strong reason. Everything moved so quickly that I never felt like the relationship had enough time to breathe before we were expected to believe these two were deeply connected.
The characters themselves left me feeling a little conflicted. Luna was difficult for me to warm up to because I found her quite unfair and judgmental toward Veronica in the beginning. Even after learning more about her, I never felt like I completely understood her character. Veronica, on the other hand, was much easier for me to sympathize with. Beneath her stoic exterior, she was surprisingly emotional, incredibly sweet, and honestly quite misunderstood.
What surprised me, though, was that I never fully connected with either of them. Usually, resilient characters who have survived difficult circumstances are exactly the type of protagonists I love. This story deals with some very heavy topics, and both MCs have experienced significant trauma. The thing is, we mostly see the aftermath rather than the events themselves. I kept wondering whether witnessing more of those experiences firsthand would have helped me form a stronger emotional connection to them.
The paranormal elements were another aspect that didn't entirely land for me. Veronica's abilities and Luna's experience of living multiple lives are fascinating concepts, but I felt like they weren't explored in enough depth. By the end, I still had a lot of questions about how everything worked and what certain aspects of the story actually meant. I'm assuming those answers will come later in the sequel, but for now, I was left wanting more.
Ironically, the thing that kept me the most invested was the mystery. I really enjoyed trying to figure out what was happening surrounding the victims' deaths, and I liked watching Veronica and Luna piece everything together. The epilogue genuinely surprised me, and even though the book didn't completely win me over, it was enough to keep me curious about what happens next.
Overall, I can absolutely see why this book has found its audience. The writing style is unique, the romance is intense, and the story definitely takes risks. Even though it wasn't entirely my thing, I still think it has a strong foundation and plenty of elements that other readers will love. If you're looking for something unconventional and don't mind a more fragmented storytelling style, this might end up being exactly your kind of book.

This was dark, intense, and completely consuming in that quiet, creeping way that sneaks up on you and refuses to let go.
From the very first page, there’s this heavy, suffocating atmosphere—like something is constantly off, just beyond reach—and it builds so well throughout the story. The small-town setting feels claustrophobic in the best way, where everyone knows something… and no one is innocent.
Luna and Veronica absolutely made this book for me. Their dynamic is layered with pain, tension, and this magnetic pull that feels both inevitable and completely forbidden. Luna’s quiet suffering versus Veronica’s chaotic unraveling creates such a compelling contrast, and I loved how their perspectives mirrored each other through the theme of death—one silent, one deafening. It added so much emotional weight.
The sapphic romance itself is slow-burning and angsty (very much my thing), and while it’s not easy or sweet, it feels raw and earned. There’s hurt on both sides, and the connection between them is tangled up in trauma, guilt, and secrets, which made every interaction feel loaded.
I also really appreciated how the story leans into its darker elements without holding back. It’s unsettling, sometimes uncomfortable, and you can feel that underlying thread of dread tightening as things unfold.

First of all, thank you Sage for the ARC as per usual.
Also yes, I honestly enjoyed reading this book as well, and more so by the unique formatting that came with it. That formatting not only refreshing, yet reminds me of my childhood days of when I love reading this kind of book formatting - ones where the readers choose - which were huge back then, mostly in mystery & crime books, those little detectives ones if you all familiar with heheh. Although in this book is just like a bit of those - where we choose between light and dark to starts with, still, I love that. I believe it’s also needed extra work in arranging the plot and whatnot, to make it overall smooth and doesn’t mess with the overall plot - which exactly the successful results of that part that I experienced in this book.
I also love the characters in here. I might be a bit biased, since I have read the other series that interconnected with this one, hence yes some of the characters felt familiar to me. Yet still, I see their growth, and went deeper into each of theirs too, in this book. I think it’ll be fine if you haven’t read any of the other series, but it makes the experience much better, at least for me, imo.
Of course, there are traumas & heavy parts included alongside the story, so if you’re a sensitive reader, do read the tw bwfore dive in. As for me, I enjoyed what she brings and I think all of those successfully been executed throughout the plot and story. I don’t have any triggers yet I always appreciate dark theme that included brilliantly in every stories.
Overall, I enjoyed reading and satisfied with what I’ve found in their stories, the povs and all alongside the interconnected worlds. Looking forward to read the second instalment of this book too! 🖤🖤

As for me, I enjoyed what she brings and I think all of those successfully been executed throughout the plot and story. Overall, I enjoyed reading and satisfied with what I’ve found in their stories, the povs and all alongside the interconnected worlds. Looking forward to read the second instalment of this book too! 🖤🖤

Luna and Veronica absolutely made this book for me. Their dynamic is layered with pain, tension, and this magnetic pull that feels both inevitable and completely forbidden. Luna’s quiet suffering versus Veronica’s chaotic unraveling creates such a compelling contrast, and I loved how their perspectives mirrored each other through the theme of death—one silent, one deafening. It added so much emotional weight.

I went into this book completely unaware of the synopsis and tropes. All I knew was that it was a sapphic romance. And oh my god, was I in for so much more than that!! I was a little thrown off by the things that started happening midway through the book, the magical realism parts. But the cool thing about this book is that you get to choose what path you want to read, and that affects the POV and how it ends. So I started with the dark side and then went back and read the light side, and the magical realism elements made more sense to me.
I believe these characters are part of a previous series, so all the different names and backstories may be helpful in understanding certain aspects of this story. For instance, Sunday and her three boyfriends.
But all in all, I’ve never read anything like this. I love how you can choose your path with the story & no matter which one you choose, you will feel all the feelings and emotions that both of the female main characters go through. I felt very connected to the characters because of how detailed their feelings and traumas were. I was definitely rooted for them to fall in love and be happy. But man, that cliffhanger!!!

As I'm getting more into reading psychological thrillers, the more my need for them grows. They just always hit different.
This was dark and gripping. Luna and Veronica’s story isn’t an easy one. Watching their relationship slowly evolve was easily my favorite part.
Luna spends so much of the story viewing the world through the lens of her own pain that I honestly understood why she hated Veronica in the beginning. Seeing her slowly realize Veronica wasn’t the enemy she believed her to be made their relationship that much more powerful. I found myself completely invested in both of them, and the way trauma is portrayed felt real and honest, never romanticized. It was often painful to read 😭
Overall, this won’t be the right book for everyone because of the subject matter. But if you like dark psychological thrillers with emotionally complex characters and stories that don’t shy away from the ugly side of trauma, definitely pick this up.

June 13, 2026I’m really conflicted by this book, and I think part of that comes down to me not being the target audience. I don’t usually read YA, and that YA tone and vibe just didn’t quite land for me, even though I love darker stories in general.
What I did enjoy was the “choose your destination” concept. Light or Dark. It was such a clever, immersive idea. Although, as someone with decision anxiety, I spent a good chunk of the first quarter wondering if I picked the “right” path… which is a me problem, not an author one. 😂
The storyline itself was super intriguing, and I really liked the dual narrative running on the same timeline it added an interesting layer. The ending, though, completely baffled me. I may have simply lost the plot due to this being outside my usual genre.
Overall, I can absolutely see this landing strongly with the right readers. Because of that, I’m choosing to forego a star rating.

SAGE NO YOU DID NOT JUST DO THAT TO ME!!! NO!!! Ok I needed this book so much after the other star-crossed duet book. Because this one goes into tap with the victims of those books. But it also has two parts one is a light series and one is a dark series. It does give you the option to pick in the beginning I originally started with the dark but I no I need to start with the light. And I'm glad I did because Luna has a lot to say. So in the book the light series is Lunas story and the dark series is Veronica. But what is going on!!!! That cliffhanger and I want to scream because I've been trying to figure out who that person is, what is going to happen, and now I'm just mad! I need the next book in this series now.

This book ended on too much of a cliffhanger for my liking to the point it didn’t just leave me wanting to read more but to the point it frustrated me.

Sage formatted this book in such a unique way. Before you even begin reading, you have two choices to make: light or dark. Although you will eventually read both parts, the choice you make first affects your overall reading experience.
I chose dark, which felt like reading the “after.” When I later read light, it felt more like the “before.” It took a little time to get used to this reading style, but by the end, everything came together perfectly—especially in the final section, appropriately titled “Yin Yang.”
You need the dark with the light, just like Luna needs Veronica and vice versa. I really enjoyed this FF romance. It had plenty of emotion, with just the right amount of spice. I look forward to more in this sapphic romance genre

This is the first book in the Cosmic Duality. To be honest I wasn’t sure I would enjoy the book because it is a sapphic romance. Sapphic romances are still a new genre to me but I had to read it because it is a Sage RelleAnne book.
This book could have been a sweet love story about Luna and Veronica if it wasn’t for their dark and tragic pasts. I feel like there should have been a previous book because there was so much packed into this book. I am now hooked on this series! I love Luna and Veronica!!

This is the first “choose your path” type of book I’ve ever read, and I will say I was pretty confused at the end of the path I chose to read first.
Things skipped whole sections of the plot in the path I chose, and left me wondering what the heck happened, but then it all eventually came together in the end once I read the other path.
One part did catch me off guard and left my face looking like that one Barbie meme where she is making the “ewww” face, but knowing Sage, I should’ve expected it. 🤣

While I have loved the mystery of these books so far the writing just has not taken me. I can completely understand this having its readers for sure though! Lovers of paranormal twists with heart wrenching back stories will devour it!
For me it just wasn’t it. I’m usually a lover of enemies to lovers but this one didn’t build enough for me before they connected.

I was new to the universe of The Star Crossed duet,but in was immediately drawn into this world. Veronica and Luna are captivating and mesmerizing,both to each other and the reader. The magical realism was an interesting addition.The spice was spicy,and did not disappoint. I liked the chose your path - light or dark,and the cliffhanger leaves me awaiting the next book because I really need more of this duo!

Omgosh, loved this. I was a little confused at first because I thought I missed a book before this one, but once I continued reading I started to understand what was going on. And it leaving on a cliffhanger... Makes me wonder who the father is to Veronica. I have a slight feeling who it is but I won't say anything until I read the last book.

Firstly, you do need to read the previous books, secondly this is fantastic, a dark angst ridden psychologically mind bending, what did I just read masterpiece.
I have so many questions. Who is the devil in the gold mask, what on earth is going on, time loops, and psychic strings tying people together, I need the next book now!
So much pain tearing apart an entire town, I honestly couldn't put this down.

So f/f isn’t usually my thing... I ate this shit tf UPPPP. This was a wonderful read, had amazing pacing, tons of suspense, amazing character and world building (which is insane because I thought I already knew the world!)
10/10 rec this if you’re into f/f, magical realism and dark emotional redemption romance!

If you want something traumatically dark with a unique POV, definitely give this a read.
Two women, unexpectedly trauma bonded with a cosmetic tie aspect brings us a unique story.
There are references to SA, self harm and ☠️ but nothing in great detail. But this book does give you an insight to how someone deals with life after surviving a traumatic event.
