Split: Book Two: The Aftermath

Rate this book
The world has only just begun to break.

In the wake of shattering quakes, towering tsunamis, and violent volcanic eruptions, Wallace Graves clings to one lead his family and a band of survivors to safety in the East. But the land itself has changed. A vast canyon tears the country in half, forcing Wallace to cut north into Canada, through hostile landscapes and collapsing civilization.

The clock is ticking. Yellowstone stirs, rumbling toward its final, catastrophic eruption. If Wallace doesn’t cross the divide soon—there will be no escape.

Split Book 2: The Aftermath is the sequel to Split.

What Did I Just Walk Into?
A full-throttle continuation where the world is already broken, the ground keeps trying to eat you, and Wallace Graves is somehow expected to dad his way across a shredded continent while Yellowstone quietly sets a timer in the background.

Here’s What Slapped:
This is not “more of the same,” it is “you thought things were bad, bless your heart, watch this” escalation in the best way.

The road trip vibe through a wrecked North America hits that perfect mix of awe, terror, and tired gallows humor that Ms. Druga does so well.

Wallace and the returning crew still feel like real, messy people, not disaster-movie cardboard; their choices and small moments of kindness land hard.

The family focus stays front and center, so even when the earth is literally tearing in half, you care more about who is on the other side of that canyon than the special effects.

The humor threaded through the ash and panic keeps the book from sinking into grimdark misery, without ever undercutting the stakes.

What Could’ve Been Better:
There are a couple of “oh of course that went wrong” moments where I wanted five extra pages of wallowing in the consequences, but honestly that is just me being greedy for more pain and fallout.

You absolutely need to read Split first or you will spend half the book feeling like you showed up mid-season to a very stressful binge watch. Not a flaw, just a fact.

Perfect for Readers Who Love:
Disaster fiction that keeps topping itself without losing the human core
Ongoing survival sagas where you are just as invested in the family dynamics as the next catastrophe
Apocalyptic road trips, found and blood family, and characters who refuse to stop hoping even when the sky looks like it is about to fall in again

Book Series:
Split
Book 1 of 3: Split
Split: Book Two: The Aftermath
Book 2 of 3: Split

Druga's best disaster series, to date

Split: The Aftermath is book 2 in the split series, Druga's best disaster series to date. It picks up where book 1 left off, after the USA was split north-south by a massive seismic event, triggered by the eruption of the Ring of Fire. The writing is bleak, but good, the characters are flawed and believable and the plot and pacing are good. Normally, I like Druga's medical thrillers, but I really enjoyed Split, more than I expected! 5/5 stars, highly recommended for fans of disaster thrillers and apocalyptic survival thrillers!

So good

This was such a good book. I was glad to see how everyone joined together to make things work. Initially I was irritated with the president but glad his plan worked out for the better. I was appalled with Anne but glad Marcy fought and survived. I would love a third book to see what happens after the thaw!

One person gets shot, one gets in trouble for getting more gas than allowed, the Ring of Fire erupts, there's a tsunami, Yellowstone erupts, there's stuff on what the President and those with him are doing and there's a lot of other things going on along with what's happening to specific people. A pretty dark and very serious book but still quite good.

Well, well. I hate hate a character in this one. Won’t say who but she knows who. Thanks Jackie. I loved this second book. Especially the Yellowstone disaster. You’ll laugh, cry, get angry. I wouldn’t want to be in this books scenario. Trust me. My favorite character is Addie. Strong, determined, caring. A true strong woman. I highly recommend this second book. Ready for the next.

a great sequel

Another amazing thought provoking book from Ms. Druga. I loved the attention to detail of the event-the survivors and closing the loop on what happened since the first book.

The Aftermath

Thank you so much for this well written book. I was there with them all the way. It was hard not to think it was just a book. So many things happening and I was there taking part. Just goes to show what a great Author can write.

a few suggestions

There were too many errors to an otherwise great story. Editing would improve the enjoyment a great deal. Having to stop and try to figure out the meaning of a sentence or paragraph is a brick wall moment.

Great story

The story is 5 stars but the "editing" is horrible....HORRIBLE. I hope there is a conclusion to this story...a happy ever after ending.

Need a third book.

I can see this book as a movie. I would only change one thing. A very good read. Wish there was a third book.
