Just finished this fabulous book #10marchfieldsquare by @nicolawhyte.author - I couldn’t put this quirky, cosy murder mystery down. It’s a mixture of Only Murders In the Building and anything written by Robert Thorogood. Set in a gated square in London (previously a large house with stables that had been converted into large apartments), the owner Celeste, is horrified when one of her tenants is murdered and ropes in two of her tenants, crime writer Lewis, and cleaner Audrey, to solve the murder as she’s convinced the Police have it wrong! It’s easy to read, full of quirky, likeable characters and twists! Apparently this is the first in a series and I will definitely be reading the next one to see what Celeste, Lewis and Audrey get up to next. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cleaner and author solve a cozy-ish murder mystery. Fairly likeable characters, low risk, easy read.
Listened to as audiobook and the narrator did a really good job of the speech in the book with lots of emotion and mostly got the accents. However, all the grammar, is enunciated, and it ends up being, lots of short sentences, with dramatic pauses, and, this constant stopping, and, clear delineations, just doesn’t work. Please, please, please can editors actually listen to the audiobooks they are working on and concentrate on a more natural speech flow and stop this over dramatic grammar school rada thing that seems to be currently en vogue for female narrators.
I enjoyed trying to solve the mystery. Lots of characters but easy to remember who was who. The book started out strong but a third of the way through I was getting somewhat impatient. Things were happening but I was losing interest. Maybe the plot was becoming too repetitive. I enjoyed the last chapter ( I suspected as much). I would definitely read a sequel but I think if the book had been shorter it would have been 4 stars. Worth checking it out.
Finishing this book felt like moving out of Marchfield Square! I didn't want it to end. The writing was inviting and enjoyable to read. Only Murders in this Building mixed with The Thursday Murder Club in it's own refreshing style. Not so patiently waiting for the next adventure of Audrey and Lewis!
I raced through 10 Marchfield Square! A cosy crime full of effortlessly beautiful writing, razor-sharp wit, and characters I fell in love with. It also keeps you guessing … the perfect page-turner. I understand it’s a debut - I would definitely buy future books by this author, and am looking forward to the sequel later this year!
a classic murder mystery with an easy plot to follow, but i found it very predictable. i certainly guessed the main culprit as soon as any suspicion was put on them…the last chapter was a nice addition, but also not very shocking. it was a good, fun, easy read!
Such a fun read with a great cast of characters and a mystery that has you second guessing everyone and everything! Well worth the read. I hope there is more to come.
I loved everything about this cosy murder whodunit, the pairing of an arrogant author and a cleaner investigating a murder in a gated community, with fantastic quirky characters.
