I felt like this was me at one point of my life. I had the same insecurities and the same desires. I love it. The author really did a great job capturing the emotions of the character.

I feel like I spent entirely too much time roaming around in the Heroine's head. Her desperation after her one night stand was incredibly grating to me. I won't be continuing this series.

Boring

I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This has to be the longest, most drawn out book I have ever tried to read. I feel the author needs a really good editor to stop all of the rambling and repetition. I skimmed over two-thirds of the book and was still very disappointed. In fact, I was so unimpressed that I don't care to read part two.

It is a cliffhanger book where it just ends and you have to buy the next book to see what happens. I really hate these kind of books. It should be described as a chapter instead of a book. I won't buy anymore to finish.

Good story but cliffhangers are a let down

The story was good, well-written and well-built. However, I didn't realize it was basically a few chapters of a book that the author was peddling at $2.99 a pop. What's disappointing is that all of the parts together would make an awesome book, from a clearly talented author. In fact, I would pay for it if it was complete and honestly, I struggle to pay 4$ for an ebook. Adding up her parts, this ebook would be 2.99×4 plus the free ebook. That makes 1 book at $11.96...a pair of shoes or jeans for my kids, heck diapers to hold until payday. If I could pay that price, I would purchase her soft cover and get the full story and happily do so. It is a great beginning and, unfortunately, I can't even give it the kind of review it deserves. Everyone should be paid for their craft, but I believe, as artists and authors, we should, also, be conscientious of the economic times and what we are doing to and for our readers. The $$ signs should not guide us. Releasing chapters at a time seems like a money grab, not a for the love of the craft.

DNF. Full of crazy making grammatical, spelling, and word use errors. Needs a brutal editing. After seeing reviews that said it’s headed for a cliffhanger ending… I’m out.

This book hit on 2 big pet peeves for me. 1- the cliff hanger is poorly done and the book just ends mid scene without any resolution to the conflict.
2- editing mistakes. Typos are easy to make, but they should also be fairly easy to catch, especially with spell check.

Based on those two things alone, the best this book could have done for me is a 3 star review. The fact that the bulk of the book was the "heroine" whining about not going after her dream, but having a dead end job anyway then whining over the sexy guy who walked out on her, no thanks.

This is a promising story.
And yes I know it was a first book in a series, but come you don't have to end the book with such a cliffhanger!

Next to that I like the way they meet, like each other and getting to know each other secrets.
Also always good to have such a loyal friend as she has.

Leaves much to be desired

Decided to read it based on its status as a free book.

Seems to have potential, but needs a lot of work. Author definitely needs to seek an editor and beta readers. While I hesitate to say that it’s as repetitive as some of the other reviews might say, it is fairly dry overall. The first time there is real dialogue doesn’t happen until midway through chapter three, and while it could stand to be better, I was pleasantly surprised in that it wasn’t as bad as I had been expecting. However, dialogue following falls very short of this bar.

I also feel like the author isn’t very familiar with some things in reality. I get that this is a paranormal thing, but a beat up Ford Taurus isn’t doing any purring of the engine, and a 9-5 secretary in NYC is probably not going to be as financially stable as she seems to be in this novella. I would suggest doing some more research on some of these things.

Additionally, the story either drags or seems to rush forward, making for a bit of a roller coaster of a pace, and generally doesn’t feel very fluid. The protagonist’s vocalization of relationship thoughts during the would-be hookup is jarring, to say the least, and honestly reeks of post-high school desperation. The overly descriptive narratives which are often rehashed later (at times, more or less verbatim) also lend to the slow pace overall.

Christina also seems very undecided on having confidence or not. Practically in the same breath, she seems to be comfortable with herself, but also have severe body image issues. While in a way relatable, I feel like the lack of consistency is extremely frustrating to read through. Clearly she finds Lex otherwise out of her league, which is fine, but the dialogue between them seems very forced.

As well, when they do begin to talk for more than a brief exchange, it’s not as in depth as it would imply otherwise (“we have so much in common” after finding two things out about one another, as an example).

The sex scenes were... a little bizarre, to me. The actual acts themselves seemed rushed, whereas the lead up was not quite bad. I also feel like the author is unfamiliar with some bodily functions on the male side of things.

I would also highly suggest a thesaurus. An effective cardinal sin of writing is to use the same word (especially adverbs) in sentences immediately following one another, and this is pervasive throughout the story.

While I also detest use of first person narrative for a story, i can generally tolerate it, but this one just makes it a little weird and creepy. Between random tense changes midway through sentences, and fourth wall breaking colloquialisms, it’s difficult to follow along at times. And when there is dialogue, it doesn’t feel natural, instead like it’s a continuation of prose. Author needs to consider how people speak and the difference between speech and narrative, and ways to implement the way people talk in every day life.

I don’t quite get the cringey feeling that some others seem to overplay, with her being almost stalker status, but it is definitely there. This could have been written much differently.

The ending was more than a little abrupt and could have been fleshed out much more. It was, I think, a decent place to end it on the note of a cliffhanger, but I feel like there wasn’t enough story to fill in all the gaps to make it feel like a reasonable shift in story. As well, Christina definitely could have connected the dots a lot sooner, what with all her emphasis on eye color earlier on.

Finally, the partial sentence usages are fine in dialogue, but in narrative they’re almost always a no-no. This story is rife with them, and would flow a little better with complete sentences. Additionally there’s some fourth wall breakage (“you would think,” for example) that is unnecessary. There are certainly other ways to phrase the same thing (“one would think”) or other colloquialisms entirely that don’t fall I to this trap.

All in all there is a severe lack of consistency all around. As I said at the beginning there is certainly potential, but needs a lot of work, and leaves much to be desired. I finished this in the span of a few hours, even with having a difficult time getting through parts of it. It could stand to be much more developed in parts, and definitely needs some red pen work. Unfortunately, I can’t say I can give this more than one star, but I have no intention of demeaning the author for their efforts. However, I feel that the author very much needs to read more and get a better feel for how other successful writers write their books, and implement some of those things. I will, however, not be purchasing the second book. I feel as if $4 is too much to pay for the combination of quality and quantity.

During a night out with her friends, big-busty/beautiful woman (BBW) Christina meets Lex Roberts, a sexy musician who falls head over heels for her.

This book has no plot. It's basically about Christina's love life with Lex. That's it. Very one dimensional. Plus, the story reads like a teenager's paranormal romance fantasy. The dialogue is forced, and the male character (Lex) acts like a total female with his tantrums... at least that's how it's written.... and the characters are supposed to be in early-to-mid 20's... so much drama... I felt like I was reading a script for the next Mean Girls film.

Props to the author for writing and finishing the novella... but I found myself skipping pages and pages of the book because the internal monologues of Christina were so long, repetitive, and boring. I am not sure if this was to add pages because of the blatant lack of storyline... or because that's the author's writing style, but I was so bored. I never skip text like this, but this novella was so full of teenage angst and repetitiveness... I couldn't read the whole of the text.

... and the cover didn't match the contents of the book, which sends an odd message to the reader.

... and it was a supposed cliffhanger... if you could even say a book with zero plot is a cliffhanger.

The romance was also on the unnecessarily explicit side... I felt like I was reading a tawdry romance of someone sexually experienced written as a teenager's first sexual experience... it was... well, I could have done without the sex only for the sake of writing about sex. Pointless.

Two of five stars because, much to my chagrin, I did technically finish reading it... even if I barely finished.

I was hoping for more of a story or plot. What I got was a teenage fantasy-- it just wasn't anything that I particularly find worthwhile. If the author adds plot, works on her dialogue, and keeps the repetitiveness down.... she may have potential in future writing. But this novella fell really flat and really missed the mark.

Idk how I feel about this.

Ok. To start off it wasn’t a bad story line. This story dragged a bit for me. It would probably keep wanting more if the author had the male’s point of view.

With that being said. The main character Christina annoyed me. I get she is thick and not use to of a sexy alpha male wanting her for one night. (I say one night because even if the author hints that he wants more and can’t for reasons of him a wolf. I am assuming since she didn’t particularly say that but we can read between the lines) this is why I said she should have his point of view....anyway, reason she annoyed me: He walked out on her after sex literally without a word except a sorry note and she looks for him for two weeks. The desperate feeling got me cringing. Ughh girl why. Then to have sex with him again and he sings a sappy song and she still runs after him. The character wasn’t exactly likeable to me. This is why I don’t how I feel about this. I want to know what happens next but do I need to know?? And if a book doesn’t make me feel a need to find out. Is it worth to continue??
This book is on my maybe later continue list.

How love should be

Christine reluctantly agreed to meet her best friend Chloe and others for drinks but she decides to end the evening early and walks to her car alone. She is taken by surprise knocked to the ground by a thief next she know she sees gold eyes heard a growl then the man who attacked was being taken away. In a shocked state Christine gets herself into her car & drives home shaken & scared. She avoids her best friend all week not wanting to tell her what happened or what she saw. Again she agreed to go out to see a band, she meets Lex the guitar & singer of the band. Their connection is strong & she can't believe he chose her over the others at the table for she is curvy and plain; where her best friend is skinny like a stick & looks like she walked off the runway. Christine's life will never be the same after that one night. I loved the characters & the premise of the story line; but I was very dissapointed in the length of the story and how it ended. Not sure if I'll invest in the next installment.

Wasted money

I usually like wolf fiction. When done right it can be amazing. This fiction, unfortunately, just did not make the cut. It was cute and super worth it in the beginning. Then after the guy left, the female lead became obsessed just because of a supposed connection. Realistically, I know she could get attached but this was a bit much with no build up. She just wanted him back for the connection and because he liked her. Maybe she should've tried to forget him more but when she caught glimpses, then maybe a spark. Just a waste of money

I can't decide if I liked this novel enough to continue the series. I did get this book for free so I can't complain that it wasn't worth the price. This was not a standalone book and I really detest that. I very much liked the hero Lex, even though he seemed too good to be true, it's fiction, right? I was becoming very bored with the first few chapters because it just seemed like a first person POV inner monologue that endlessly droned on. The story ended with a cliffhanger which left no satisfaction in its wake. I'll put this series on my "Maybe I'll continue it some day" list and move on.

Following her spirit

I wasn't sure how this book would play out. It was enjoyable but felt it could have given me more in this first part. I didn't realise this story would be split into several pieces. The emotional journey is strong in this romance, more so than the relationship that may or may not be happening between lex and Christina. Her friend chloe seems to one part bring her down, but ground her while still being the only one there for her. It will be interesting where this story goes.

It was good

The basic idea of the story was good. The problem for me was Christine, I thought for a woman who cept saying how secure she was in who she was, She was one of the most insecure women I've ever had the misfortune to read about. I had a hard time liking this book because all Christine wined and wined through the whole book. To top everything off IT WAS A CLIFF HANGER!

Christine doesn't really have a social life. After leaving a club alone she attacked by a mugger. When she thinks there is no hope she hears a growl and a large wolf protect her. She leaves and the next weekend meet lex a singer in a band they have a great one night stand and she feels like she can tell him everything including the horrible night the past week. After she tells him he disappears and she's left wondering what she did wrong. Great read must read.

Intriguingly memorable!

This one is diabolically slow to start, but when it picks up it resembles a freight train out of control. While finding it a rd to keep reading for the first few pages, I am so thankful I finished this book!!!
The wonder of discovery is afforded a twist in this sensual story.
If you like the paranormal, lust, and self-discovery, then Ms. Brooks has woven a tale of two hearts that will have you eating out of the palm of her hand.

Oh my heart

This is just the beginning, I suspected that going into it. I don't get the negative reviews. Those women never had to wonder why someone just disappeared from their life with no answers i guess. Good for them. I may be a little over emotional anyway but I actually cried and my heart broke with Christina's. The authors prose about the last song, I cried again. I loved this beginning. I hope to keep on with the rest of the series. I still need to see a HEA!

I hate to give two stars :(. I like the story line but I feel like there wasn’t enough build up to the spirit animal idea. Plus, and this is my fault for not realizing, I hate those cliff hangers that make you go to the next book to get the rest of the story.

Let me reiterate, I like the idea, I like the characters, but I feel like there wasn’t enough development of those characters as well as the spirit animal idea.

Wow...I reread this book twice just to make sure I hadn't missed anything !! The fact that Lex finally let her see the real him made my.head swim! I guess being a shifter has its rules just like being human but the love was so undeniably there and making it hard for them to be together because of rules he had to follow. Sad how everything has a price or a rule to follow . I can't wait to read the second book!

A cliffhanger...

This book was an interesting spin on usual werewolf stories. Throughout this book, certain scenes could be really lengthy with descriptions and rambling thoughts of the mc. On the other hand, you can tell the author worked hard to develop the character to have flaws and react in a way that most humans would. I wish that the book didn't end on cliffhanger and was the full story, but I don't regret the read.

OK Start

It’s an ok start. MC is ok but overthinks everything! The events don’t warrant her severe reactions. (And we read about her inner dialogue over and over and... I had to skip pages of her repetitious thoughts. For such a short book, I wouldn’t have thought so many pages would be dedicated to inner turmoil.) I’ll give book 2 a try because I’m interested in the hero. But I’m hoping it’s different— less thoughts, more action.

I found this book quite hard to follow in the beginning, I thought she went almost too in detail and felt like she repeated herself a fair bit, it did get better, I will read the next one, which in the beginning I wasn't even sure I could finish the first one, let's hope it just keeps getting better!

Curvy girl gets the guy!

Christina is a curvy girl and very relatable. She could easily be anyone of us. Led is the sexy unattainable kind of guy we all dream of. However this time the girl is the sexy one whom the guy can't stay away from.
I didn't like that it was ended on a cliffhanger forcing me to buy the next short book to continue the story.

Awesome Start!

Brooks is new to me and didn't disappoint. Lex and Christina, you just fall in love with them and feel sorry for them. Brooks writes this book beautifully and has awesome scenes in it. I didn't want to put the book down. Now I want to jump into the next one, definitely a recommended read.

Cliffhanger

Throughout this book I felt like the dialogue between Christina and Lex was awkward and unnatural. It just seemed unnecessarily formal for two people who meet in a club and have a one night stand. Lex was intentionally kept "mysterious" but that doesn't have to mean undeveloped. This is a cliffhanger, but I have no urge to read the next one.

Interesting, but slow.

This book has an interesting premise, but the pace was very slow. There were a lot of proofreading errors as well. This woman appears to be very naive. She doesn't even realize that the man she is obsessing over is a paranormal until the very last paragraph!
