They weren’t supposed to meet. They definitely weren’t supposed to be engaged.
But when the mayor’s daughter proposes to a stranger in a courthouse, all bets are off.

Grace Hartwell is tired of her life being headline news. To escape a deal she made with her father—one that lets him pick her husband in exchange for funding her media company, Hart Media- she takes fate into her own hands and asks the first guy she sees to marry her.

Enter Kairo Knox. Quiet. Brooding. Star football player with no interest in marriage, especially not to a southern socialite with camera-ready charm. But one photo. One rumor. And suddenly they’re stuck in a fake engagement neither of them wanted.

She’s chaos in heels. He’s control in cleats. And somehow, they make it work until secrets, family drama, and one unexpected spark threaten to turn their fake engagement into something dangerously real.

Love in the Headlines is an engagement of inconvenience rom-com packed with witty banter, forced proximity, and a whole lot of heart.

A.R.C. REVIEW

This is book 2 in the Broadcast Heart series by Evie Daniels. This contemporary romance follows out FMC Grace who is the daughter of the mayor and the MMC Kai who is a football player.
Grace is the owner of a failing business and the only way she could keep her business was to go to her father for money but her
father had one stipulation and that was for her to agree to an arranged marriage.Grace not wanting to get married to Seth she decided to go to a 24 hour chapel where she runs into Kai.
Little did either of them know that this encounter would end up working out for both of them.

This was a great time! The MCs had such fun and witty banter and their chemistry was palpable. The story was rich with dialogue so I felt as if I were actually able to see the story unfold as opposed to it feeling as if they were just narrating their lives. Kai was protective of Grace from the beginning and it was one of my favorite things about him (aside from him being Mr. Talk you through it). Grace was a strong FMC, and even though she got knocked down she never stopped fighting for what she wanted. I also loved that when the shift from fake to real happened there were no games or hesitation on either end.
There were a few twists that really came from out nowhere that I honestly hadn’t expected. I do think Grace’s dad got off too easily. And I wish we saw a bit more of the outcome with Kai & his mom. But I definitely recommend this!

ARC review: 4.5 stars.

- Grace is not about being perfect, it’s about being kind to yourself. -

Love in the headlines is book 2 from the Broadcast Hearts series by Evie Daniels. Picking up from where Behind The Forecast left off, we are introduced to the world of Alleia “Grace” Hartwell. Grace is the town beloved mayor’s daughter, entrepreneur, and social media influencer. While her life shines brightly in the headlines of media, out of the spotlight lingers an unrelenting darkness that she’s entrapped in.

Kairo “Kai” Knox is a defensive end player for Amun Pointe Chargers. After missing a Super Bowl game winning play and allegedly attacking a photographer, Kai has become a recluse. While trying to resolve a speeding ticket in person, Kai receives an unusual marriage proposal from a stranger by the name of Grace.

After being randomly blackmailed Kai and Grace are forced into close proximity that’s ends with a fake engagement. The engagement may seem fake initially but the feelings they have for each other are mutual and real. This story takes so many unexpected twists and turns, I honestly couldn’t predict any of the outcomes except the main ending.

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Tropes:
•Fake engagement
•Athlete/socialite relationship (introvert/extrovert)
•Redemption story
•Mother issues
•Family secrets
•Plot twist after plot twist after plot twist

*P.S.: To the author Ms. Daniels, if you find it not robbery to continue sharing the Amun Pointe world, I gratefully look forward to the stories of Salana, Toni, and now Lo (I’m very interested on Shiloh’s backstory). Thanks in advance.

You had me at sports romance and fake engagements! This is definitely a cozy romance I can recommend.

Grace and Kai balance each other so well.
Grace — the high-society girl with major daddy issues.
Kai — the southern gentleman with his own wounds and a heart that just wants to be chosen.

Both of them are simply fighting to be loved for who they are, not who people expect them to be.

Their dynamic was refreshing; the banter had me smiling and the chemistry was definitely chemistry-ing. I love when a romance lets the characters be flawed, messy, and still soft with each other.

It touches on some heavier emotional themes, but honestly… what’s a good book without a little chaos?

Evie Daniels knows how to build connection and tension in a way that feels natural — this whole series is shaping up to be a must-read.

Really enjoyed this one!

I had the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book and I loved it. The backstory of the two main characters and how it shaped the way they act was great. The chemistry and the development of the relationship between the two was wonderful. I love how he treated her and how they were able to be a safe space for each other. Looking forward to the next one!

Absolutely amazing
I love this book!
Thank you Evie for the arc! I went in blind and I’m so happy that I did. I just enjoyed the love and story.

It was just so much wrapped up in this book from fake married, scandals, messy family, horrible father and passion.

This was just so good!
I love the emotional connection and passion I felt while reading…

Grace and Kai was just so cuteeeeeeee
I love how they had great communication when they realize this fake marriage was becoming real. I love that.

I enjoyed this story so much! I don’t know why but I got a soft spot for fake engagements/dating tropes real bad! Grace and Kai were complete opposites, but watching them fall in love was the cutest thing.

As cute as Grace and Kai are there definitely were some drama mixed into the romance. Be prepared for them difficult family dynamics. But the one thing that really warmed my heart was seeing a black woman being loved on unconditionally. The way Kai supported and protected Grace?! Chef’s kiss!

I enjoyed it for the most part, I really loved the first book though. This one there was a lot going on that I felt could have happened earlier in the book so it was jammed packed in the last 40 or so pages. We spend so long on the Mayor being the villain and then for a bit of the book it’s like he doesn’t exist and don’t get me started on Seth who exists for no reason. Him being drunk in all of their encounters we never find out anything about him. The whole Rory thing was a little heavy handed cause sis just pops up blackmailing folk 🫩 the love between Grace and Kai was awesome but everything surrounding them, which comprised most of the story, was lacking. Also just as a side note the authors note said the book was spicy…it’s not lol they have sex sure as an average adult couple would but spicy is hella pushing it considering they don’t have sex until like the 60% mark I believe in the book

This was such a good read! It immediately gripped me with the family dynamics and kept me hooked as the MCs lives converged and more of the story unfolded. There was drama, big emotions, laughter, some spice, tears, and surprises. So good!

Grace is the mayor's daughter who is building a media empire.

Kai is a famous pro football player trying for a championship ring.

Shebis trying to avoid an arranged marriage to a gross dude. He is trying to recover his superbowl disappointment. They meet when she approaches him at the courthouse and asks him to marry her (as you do). He declines (as you do). Neither has any clue who the other is. Then someone with photos from the courthouse interaction forces them into each other's lives. And so a fake engagement is born. And that is just the start of the drama & goodness.

Grace is incredible. Despite what was modeled for her growing up, she is building her company on integrity & decency. She deserves better than her father. (we have a new winner bad & evil parent). I loved her journey of learning to open up & trust Kai and tell him what she wants. She had very real reactions to the events unfolding in her life an I was so glad she had Kai to support & hold her through it.

Kai is amazing. He is bold & strong and living with anxiety and trauma from his growing up years. He is processing a mistake that cost his team big at the SuperBowl and taking on more than he should. He falls so hard, so fast for Grace. It is delicious. And I loved how she saw him & his anxiety and supported him with it.

I love these two and all the (good) side characters. They all brought humour and depth. So excited now to read the first book in this series! Evie has a gift for storytelling.

I received this as an ARC and am so, so, so grateful. This had no impact on my review.

The second installment in the Broadcast Hearts Series

Tropes
Fake Marriage
Forced Proximity
Found Family
Daddy’s Little Girl
Small Town

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️
Grace, the Mayor’s daughter, eager to get from under daddy’s thumb and keep her company, completely and ridiculously gets the idea to walk up to a strange man and ask him to marry her. He of course turns her down. However, news in a small town travels fast and far - and when an unknown source blackmails them they have no choice but to fake a marriage arranged by their publicist/assistants. This pisses the Mayor off because Knox can not be controlled so he takes it out on Grace and steals her company and wipes her life completely of everything she’s ever known. No worries though Knox comes to the rescue and when two people are forced to be in the same space … attraction, fire, and love comes alive. Together they embark on a journey that frees them both.

The second book is my favorite in the series thus far. I mean I never thought anyone could compete with Dawson but Knox was Superman (one of my fav super hero’s) and I was smitten from the beginning. The way the characters were developed, the way the story was written should be a movie and the banger at the end UNEXPECTANT - PAGE TURNER!!!! This story was well written, not rushed, every detail made sense and when woven together made the perfect romance story. It also has a good amount of spice - perfect for the story. Makes me wanna … well that’s for me to know 😜. If you’re a romance reader, this is for you. If you’re rooting for love, this book is for you. If you just want a good ole lay back, snuggle under the covers read - then this book is for you.

Don’t say I didn’t tell you bc I did. It’s a MUST read.

Thank you @authoreviedaniels for the surprise early read AND getting me out my reading slump! 🥂 to another great book!

I have to say, I really enjoyed this one! For me, this series just keeps getting better and better. I read Behind the Scenes when it first came out, and it was a good debut, but I can definitely tell how much Evie’s writing has grown since then.

Grace and Kai’s story pulled me in from the start. I liked how both characters had layers to them beyond the romance. Grace is ambitious but still trying to step out from under her father’s control, and Kai is this southern gentleman with a brooding, homebody side that I loved. He’s still dealing with his own baggage from that one career mistake everyone keeps holding over his head to a strained relationship with his mom that’s starting to resurface in unexpected ways. Both of them are navigating family expectations, image, and identity, which gives the romance real emotional depth.

I also loved the way their relationship grew. It’s a slow burn that builds perfectly, but once they get to cooking, baby, the kitchen gets hot. Kai’s protectiveness was one of my favorite things about him. He never let her father get away with talking down to her and always stood up for her. He held her accountable when she was wrong but with patience and care, and that balance made him so easy to root for.

And of course, the little touches made it even better. Lottie and Fiona completely stole my heart. Those two had me wanting my own little fur babies, their antics were adorable. Of course the friends too gave us some funny moments.

What surprised me most is how unpredictable the story was. There were several twists I didn’t see coming, and I love when a romance can keep me guessing while still feeling heartfelt and fun. Evie did a great job mixing love, family drama, and growth without it ever feeling too heavy.

I’m truly loving this world Evie’s building, and I really hope we get a Sebastian and Vanessa story next

Evie Daniels absolutely nailed it with Love in the Headlines! This book had me grinning, swooning, and clutching my chest all at once. Grace Hartwell is that girl who looks like she has it all together; successful, beautiful, and constantly in the spotlight but underneath it all, she’s just trying to reclaim her freedom and happiness. I loved how Evie showed both her vulnerability and her determination to step out of her father’s shadow.
Then there’s Kairo “Kai” Knoxbrooding, private, and still reeling from the fallout of one very public mistake. He’s the perfect mix of grumpy and guarded, and I loved watching Grace slowly break down his walls. Their chemistry was undeniable from the moment she blurted out that courthouse proposal (seriously, I was laughing out loud), and every scene after that just pulled me deeper in.
What really stood out to me was how real both characters felt. This wasn’t just another fake engagement story. It was about two people learning to heal, trust, and rediscover themselves through love. The banter was top-tier, the tension was delicious, and the emotional moments? They hit hard in the best way.
If you love fake dating, opposites attract, or stories that balance humor with heart, Love in the Headlines needs to be on your TBR. Evie Daniels brought the perfect blend of small-town charm, celebrity drama, and genuine emotion.

Love in the Headlines
Evie Daniels

Grace is the “perfect” politician’s daughter. She’s the poster child of privilege. She knows exactly how to behave while her every decision is scrutinized. The only problem is she is destined to yearn for the love of a father that couldn’t care less about her desires. Nothing is good enough. No matter what she tries.

Kario is burdened by fumbling an opportunity in the past. In a moment of shock, he is distracted. This one decision has a snow ball effect. His frustrations of his youth, mingled with the disappointments of his present isn’t the ideal combination.

Let me start by saying, a Rom-Com featuring a marriage of convenience with Black characters that live a life of luxury is exactly what I want to read. Even though Grace comes for money, she’s not afraid to put in a little hard work to get things done. If only she had the space to blossom.

When it comes to the Mayor, he can kick rocks. It’s painful to watch Grace beg for the attention from her father, and to be dismissed at every turn. Thank God Kario is who he is. He isn’t trying to prove anything to anybody. Grace’s happiness and safety is paramount to him.

My philosophy is if he’s not head over hills, what’s the point?

Grace, the mayor’s daughter, is desperate to escape her father’s control and the deal that lets him dictate her business and future. In a wild act of rebellion, she proposes to a random stranger at the courthouse—Kairo Knox, a star athlete just trying to pay a parking ticket. He thinks she’s lost her mind, and politely declines, but fate (and a little blackmail 😅) soon pull them back together in the messiest way possible. What starts as a fake engagement quickly turns into real feelings, real spicy chemistry, and even some real growth.

Kairo was the ultimate stand-up guy—steady, protective, and respectful in a way that instantly made him book boyfriend material. Raised right and respectful, he stood on business every time Grace needed him—and when he needed her, she showed up just as strong. Their banter was sharp, their chemistry magnetic, and watching their fake setup evolve into genuine love was rom-com perfection. There were moments that made me laugh out loud, moments that made me want to shake Grace and scream “Girl!” (because watching her chase her father’s approval after years of mental and emotional abuse was both frustrating and heartbreaking), and a twist that had me gasping 😱 Plus, it has just enough spice to keep things interesting.

While Love in the Headlines delivers plenty of humor and swoon-worthy banter, it also digs into deeper themes: control, validation, emotional healing, and the courage to finally write your own story. Grace’s journey towards self-worth and Kairo’s unwavering support make this one of those romances that proves sometimes the messiest beginnings lead to the most beautiful endings.

Headlines, Heartstrings, and a Whole Lot of Heat
This book was such a fun surprise. I love a good fake dating story, and this one hit all the right beats, slow burn tension, family drama, and just enough scandal to keep things messy in the best way. Grace and Ka couldn’t be more different, but that’s exactly what made their dynamic work. She’s all charm, heels, and defiance; he’s quiet, steady, and a little broody. Together, they were magnetic.
The story gave me everything I wanted, banter, chemistry, and a romance that was fun to watch. I also liked that the characters were a bit flawed. Grace’s complicated family ties and Kai’s guarded nature made their connection feel real, like two people trying to figure out who they are under the spotlight.
If I’m honest, the ending wrapped up a little too fast for me, but the build-up and emotional payoff were there. It’s a well-written, heartfelt rom-com with spice, tension and scandal and I’d definitely pick up whatever Evie Daniels writes next.

This was a good time! Kai and Grace have wonderful chemistry and banter. Fake engagement is one of my favourite tropes and I appreciated the circumstances in which Kai and Grace first meet. I laughed and I gasped. The drama in the story comes from outside of their relationship. Seeing a Black woman being loved and supported just as she is, was just wonderful. We get introduced to several side characters, and am I curious about them all? Yes! I'm hoping to see their stories in the next books in this series.

Whew, where is my Kairo?! 🤣

First time reading a book by Evie Daniels and it will not be my last. Loved Grace & Kai's story. Had the right amount of humor, character development, twists and of course spice!

Loved the progression of their story and how they protected each other. Fyi, you will want to fight Grace's father after the first chapter lol. There were a couple of chapters when I was talking to my Kindle lol.

Now I need to read Book 1 in this series and I look for more books by this author.

Definitely recommend!

Thank you so much to Evie Daniels for this ARC!!! This was one of my biggest anticipated ARCs so im honored to have gotten it!!

This was so good. The amount of emotional depth and plot twists in this?? Absolutely. Wow. I genuinely felt my heart getting ripped form my chest at some parts, get sappy at others, and I felt like I was really immersed into this world. I related to Grace to much in this and her need to be accepted and loved, yeah. mhm. That struck a couple of cords. Trying to impress a parent who doesn't care? Yeah mhm next caller WHEW!!!

Kai and Grace ughhhh my heart they were so cute together. The way they fell in and just allowed each other to fall without all the push and pull most books do was so refreshing. They did move really fast, but i think it fit in well with how they were rushing against Grace's father.

The only thing that kinda got me about this book though was the pacing. I kept getting a little confused on certain plot points and how they lined up- like some parts felt like i had skipped a chapter or had forgotten to read something- but that was just the pacing. Like there were some plot points that seemed to just be wrapped up without showing how they got solved? So those kinda left me confused but those were more near the end of the book, so it wasn't a hugeeee deal.

Overall I really liked this!! I'm excited for whomst ever comes next in this series- although I feel like i may have an idea.....teehee

Extra, extra read all about it! Who knew you could find love while trying to pay a parking ticket? This was my first time reading a book from this author and it won’t be my last! This is the second book in her Broadcast Hearts series and I love that they are stand alones but I’m sure they’re interconnected. Following Grace’s story of being a social puppet to coming into to her own by finding her voice and taking back her power, all while finding out the true definition of love really made the ending of this book satisfying. There was so much to unpack within this story and a plot twist that I didn’t see coming! I will say Kairo Amos Knox definitely has earned his spot on my list of book boyfriends and excited to read more from Evie in the future. It was a pleasure to be a part of your ARC Team and review your book!

Oh, I loved the chemistry and dynamic between Grace and Kai right off the bat! They had a hilarious meet-cute, but I loved how everything came together. I felt terrible for Grace with everything she was going through with her terrible father, but once Kai was committed to their fake engagement (and even before he committed), he became her protector, and I loved that so much!

Just like the first book, I loved the friendships here as well. A strong girl group is always a fave of mine in books, and I liked that Kai also had a good group around him!

The way these two came together and created their own happily ever after from a chaotic, messy situation was so adorable! And the spice!!! When the tension boils over and they finally get steamy, oh it was gooooood.

Thank you to Evie for the ARC!

Girl this end !?! Very chaotic, I was not expecting that at all.

I definitely enjoyed this book, it was easy to read. I enjoyed the banter between our two main characters.
I liked how Kairo took is role very seriously and very quickly.

I do think the time jumps could have been handled better because you finish a chapter thinking you're going to pick up right after, but then in the next chapter you find yourself two weeks later. It made the narrative a little less fluid at times.

ARC REVIEW

This was such a goooooood read. It definitely hit a little bit heavier than Behind the Forecast, but just as good. I shed a few tears, had my jaw on the floor, and laughed out loud more than once. Oh and baby, it’s spicy. I don’t know about y’all, but Kairo calling Grace princess was doing something TO ME 😜

Grace and Kairo went from strangers to friends to lovers—with a whole fake engagement in the mix! Their story started off messy in the best way. Like… sis met him at a courthouse chapel and tried to marry him on sight 😭 and he said no! Fast forward, and they cross paths again after both get blackmailed (I know, right) The solution. Fake an engagement.

For Grace, it meant freedom from her overbearing/manipulative-ass daddy (the Mayor, no less 🙃) so she could finally run her business. Grace might’ve had the “princess” lifestyle, but seeing how lonely she really was, constantly chasing approval from her father broke my heart.

For Kairo, it was a chance to clean up his image after losing the Super Bowl. The first time Kairo met Grace’s dad, he was so protective of her (He’d only known her 30 minutes) and I was like, ooooooh I like him. Kairo was raised right!!! A true Southern gentleman. Officially added to my book boyfriend list, no question. Their banter was top-tier you could see how their friendship naturally turned into love.

They faced trash-ass parents, betrayal, and secrets but they still stood by each other. At the heart of it, this book was about being seen and protected. The fake setup blossomed into something real and beautiful and I loved every second of their story. Thank you Evie for the early access.

Grace and kairo are the cutest. The banter between the two had me giggling. From how they first meet leading up to them falling for each other. The spicy moments had me blushing. I love how kairo had her back when it came to her father and how she was there for him with his own family issues. What made this book even better was the twists!! I was screaming in complete shock. Amazing read definitely worth it.

Love in the Headlines by Evie Daniels
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Listen… this book ate. It’s one of the best rom-coms I’ve read all year — emotional, hilarious, and full of heart. Grace was chaotic in heels and Kai? That man was calm, fine, and dangerously husband material 😩. The chemistry? Off the charts. The banter? Elite.

It had everything I love — fake engagement, sports romance, found family, and just the right amount of spice to keep it interesting. I laughed, I swooned, I yelled at my Kindle, and I did not put it down until I finished.

If you love a man who falls first but tries to fight it, a heroine who’s done letting people control her story, and a romance that makes you believe in timing and fate — this is your next read.

📢 I’m so serious — stop scrolling and go read Love in the Headlines. You’ll thank me later.

ARC Review- The found family trope has to be my top 3 favorite tropes. The way Grace and Kai navigate their family trauma as well as slowly building a family of their own is truly beautiful. The secrets and lies was never ending literally lol. But through it all, Grace and Kai found something that made all the hurt worth it in the end.
Two opposite people who fit so perfectly together. Ms. Evie you have done it again.

Dateline: Romance Central — In today’s top story, hearts are fluttering and timelines are exploding as Evie Daniels delivers a front-page sensation with Love in the Headlines.

This isn’t your average love story — it’s a full-blown media worthy scandal wrapped in passion, redemption, and the kind of chemistry that makes even the paparazzi pause. Daniels takes us behind the camera and straight into the spotlight where two souls collide under the flashbulbs of fame and the fire of vulnerability.

When I tell you this book at times made me want to chock the 💩 out of Grace. This girl wanted her daddy’s love so bad. That she was willing to accept his mental, emotional and verbal abuse. I hated her father and I hated that Grace felt the need to seek his validation. Her father was a manipulative narcissist piece of 💩. Now that I got that out the way, let’s talk about how Grace and Kai meet. Imagine going to the court house to pay a ticket. And a stranger comes and ask you if you want to get married? Of course, you think she is crazy and respectfully decline. However now you and this crazy stranger are blackmailed into a fake marriage. Daddy dearest is not happy and sets out to teach you a lesson. But joke was on him the whole time. The two of them grow closer and start hunching. Chileeeeee it was spicy. My final thoughts, this book was good and will have your jaw dropping at all the scandalous tea that is dropped.
