Abducted to another world, thrown into a magical academy, bonded to a vampire, rooming with an incubus, fake dating an angel, and despised by a dragon.
I bring the wrong guy home for a one-night stand and the next day I’m swept off to a mystical world surrounded by beautiful fae beings, because apparently… I’m one of them.
Only I know nothing of this world, so it doesn’t take me long to make enemies of a stuck-up princess and get mate-bonded to a vampire… only he’s not a vampire, he’s a shifter… or something… I don’t know, I’m new here.
Oh, and that guy from the one-night stand, turns out he’s an incubus… and my new roommate, not to mention my assigned TA in class. Awkward!
Things only get more complicated when that princess (who’s appointed herself my arch nemesis) sends one of her bodyguards (an angel no less) to spy on me by pretending to be my boyfriend.
And did I mention the dragon-shifter? The one who may be sexy AF, but who seems to hate my guts for some reason?
This place is messed up. I’ll be lucky to make it through my first week alive.
The nicest thing I can say is - I finished it! 2 stars may be too many but I guess I didn’t hate it to the point where I was rage-reading. I like the cover of the book.
While I came in with low expectations, it was confirmed to be a pretty terrible book. The writing isn’t great. The FMC is horrible - she’s selfish, entitled, snarky, rude, stupid, and generally unlikeable. Hard pass on continuing the series.
Holy info dump. This reads like a first fanfiction. Its plot seemed interesting but I couldn’t get past the first two chapters of wow idk why but I kept talking. Exposition can be added in a way that’s less obvious.
Hard to review. First in series. Pnr, reverse harem?, academy, hidden heritage, evil authorities. Izzy was raised as a human in the foster system. She has a one night stand and he reports her to the paranormal authority, so she is brought to their realm to study. Spoilers: early on it's revealed to the reader that Izzy is the long lost heir to the Elf throne. It's kept secret. The current regent is evil as is her student daughter who hates Izzy. Izzy's character is hard to like. She has individual sexual encounters with various men uncaring about their feelings. The social system is power based with Elves as the most powerful and abusive. The underclasses are treated as servants and slaves. From the beginning Izzy hates the society and goes about Willy nilly angering powerful people. This is strange because she doesn't know she is the lost princess and the story doesn't flow. The ending of this volume shows plot development, so I'll probably continue. There are several misused words, but it's punctuated correctly.
It was a fun story and it does leave me curious to what is coming next. I do feel like it was a bit on the rushed side. I wanted to enjoy the story more, but I did find that I had issues with remembering the plot line as the story felt like it mostly consisted of smut. Which is not what I was expecting from the story honestly. I don't have an issue with smut (if you look at the books I read....) but I definitely wanted a lot more plot and to not be as confused. I did have a personal issue with the FMC in this one... Outside of that the other issue I found with the FMC is she makes a remark about how people act like she's sleeping with someone new every day or something along those lines, but she is. She literally is sleeping with several guys. Now do I have an issue with that per say? No. I live off of reverse harem and why choose books. But she's so whiney about it and she's so irritated that the guys are seeing this. Own up to it. Everyone in this book needs to just talk to each other and figure out if there are bonds or what is so special.
I do think that unfortunately the author is probably not one best suited for me as she seems to rapidly release books every month and it comes off as books seeming rushed. I do think that others may enjoy the book if they are just looking for something that is fun, fast paced and definitely has a lot of smut with several guys and some drama.
Blood of the Veil by Clara Wils was… okay. As a first book in a series, it has potential, but it really needed more development. The pacing is extremely choppy; the story jumps from moment to moment so quickly that it often feels like whole sections are missing. A bit more depth and “flesh” would’ve gone a long way in making the plot feel complete instead of rushed.
The MMCs were hit or miss. A few of them weren’t terrible, but none were particularly memorable. We’re given almost nothing about them beyond their looks, which makes it hard to care about them as characters. Attraction alone isn’t enough to build investment, especially in a harem-style story.
Unfortunately, the FMC was my biggest issue. She’s honestly hard to like - rude to her 'mates', messy in her relationships, and somehow both a doormat and a jerk at the same time. Her internal monologue is frustrating, especially when she repeatedly just “goes along with” bullies who are actively trying to kill her and her mates/friends. It made no sense and pulled me out of the story. I wasn’t a fan of her.
The author also tried to be a little too clever with names. I’m all for unique naming, but when nearly every character (besides the FMC) has a name that’s hard to pronounce, it becomes distracting instead of immersive. Constantly stumbling over names really took away from the flow of the story.
Finally - and this was a big one - the author has done readers no favors by releasing the titles and blurbs for all upcoming books complete with major spoilers. At this point, I genuinely don’t feel the need to continue the series because the author already spoiled her own ending and future harem members. It’s such a shame, because spacing out blurbs book by book would’ve kept some mystery and excitement alive.
Overall, not terrible, but not great either. With better pacing, stronger character development, and fewer self-inflicted spoilers, this series could’ve been much more enjoyable.
Wow! Who said this book is good? Not many people and that is sad! I mean wow is all I can say! Im going to say more but I am tongue-tied. Brain-tied? If you love a why choose, a good slow storyline, don't mind typos, and paran rmal romance, then this book is for you. Ok so we have Izzy, a fun bartender who likes guys but only as 1 night stands. She can't trust men nor will she they all seem to leave and don't care. However, it seems like she also distances herself from most people in general. The amount of loss that she has had in her 20+? years is sad. I love the character development that she had in this book. She has to face up to multiple men, face her feelings, and face her magic that she didn't even know she had. Oh! While also trying not to be pushed around, beatened and threatened, by a vindictive princes. The 4 men seem to know that Izzy is special, they can't seem to stay away, whether that be for sex, a mate bond, or just that she seems special. Rook, Myle, Vyns and Koar each are something different that she needs but it seems that we won't have that typical, I reject this mate bullshit. Myle is such a sweetheart and I don't think I have ever read a guy to apolo ize as much as he did. He has an insight on Izzy that even she doesn't have. Rook knows the ways of her body but does he know the way to her heart? Will he even care? Vyns has to figure out how to find his light but also how to break his oath. Can he be trusted? Koar the ever protective dragon is an unknown but seems like he might be a good guy maybe even potentially one of her guys. Who knows 🤔?
Really sad this book was so terrible, I had high hopes. Thus book has a few unlabeled triggers, like on page SA of one of the male characters, severe graphic bullying, slavery, and more
This world is so terrible that every single person is doing the bare minimum of every job, everyone is mean, dismissive, and hateful. 17 chapters in and I haven't met a single character I care about or like. At the point where the FMC agrees to lick someone's boot in front of the whole class and instead gets beaten and forced to beg while her jaw is breaking. I'm done. In a world where everyone has magic apparently no one cares if their are slaves. Even control over water could kill a person in seconds but why help people being tortured in front of you? Too much hassle. These aren't Heroes.
main character seems selfish, and not empathetic, even though people keep describing her as this great person? The dynamic I usually like in why choose books is kind of ruined in this one because all the guys aren’t on board so it’s giving betrayal vibes instead of a relationship, where everyone is consenting adults. I started the second book, hoping to see some character growth, but it’s actually getting a little bit worse. It just seems like the main character isn’t a very good person, like she’s outwardly says she has good intentions and wants to fix things for people even though she just got to this world and know it’s very little about it, but then doesn’t treat people very well?

This was such an enjoyable, fast read — I flew through it! The worldbuilding was great, with everything from dragons, elves, and shifters, to angels and demons and everything in between. I loved the characters, especially the guys who were average or lower on the social scale, which felt refreshingly different from the usual overpowered fantasy RH heroes. Overall, it’s absolutely worth the read.

The plot was a little rushed and fast paced, plus a lot of info dumping going on- but I did appreciate that the guys in the harem were all well defined (meaning I got a clear image of them-their voices, personalities, and motivations didn't run together)
I did like Izzy as well, but I wish we got a bit more from her other than horny moments and fear of commitment. But might read on to see how the story goes after the big reveal, and how her powers will grow.
The plot of the story is why I read the whole book, but some of the story feels rushed and it takes me out of it. Every character feelings seem disingenuous as in they can go from upset to happy in 0.5 seconds without any growing or searching. They just instantly feel better and it feels like character development is happening at such a rapid rate.
Overall solid writing but ultimately I need more of a slower pace development.
There was a lot of steam in this book! A. LOT! Sometimes it seemed to dominate, but be patient! There is a good story here! Just when the action seems to ramp up and things start sliding into place…comes the cliffhanger! Needless to say to say I’m itching to get my hands on the next book!.

I loved this premise and love how the relationships were built. It also subverted a lot of common tropes but definitely fell into some. I do think this needs to go through another round of editing for a lot of grammatical mistakes and forgotten or added punctuation. I will be keeping up with this story since it's very compelling.
She doesn't know she is a nymph. All she knows is she is an orphan. Rook comes to the bar she works in and walks her home. He notices changes in her appearance and reports her which leads to her kidnapping. She shows signs of being supernatural and is forced to stay at the academy.
It’s amazing Izzy has so much strength. And I’m fascinated how the story is unveiling with all the dynamics of the characters coming into play. Sandrea is really awful and makes the perfect villain. Looming forward to book 3.

Lots of unnecessary smut but easy to glaze over but ya…I can’t help but feel a certain way for guys. Anyways I still absolutely adore the story. There are some edits that should be done but overall the writing was enjoyable and the characters are well… I’m willing to read more. Can’t wait for the next book(s)
I had to DNF’d at page 171. I tried but I just couldn’t get into how unaware the FMC was and how she lacked any self preservation. The MMC’s all seemed like if you gave them a high five they would latch on to you because of how their caste system was. It was hard to want to see if they outgrew that and evolved so I just cut my losses and called it a day.
Pretty good book. Izzy has been raised in foster care and never has much luck. Sadly that doesn’t change after she has a one night stand with a guy from the bar and finds out she’s actually a nymph. The book was pretty good. But there wasn’t enough plot overall to really grip me until the last bit of the book.
loved this one... the interaction between Izzy and all the guys ; the way she finds herself ; .... it was very easy to read, the story kept you hooked.
Can't wait for book nr 2 to see what happens next !
This is pretty much smut with a little bit of plot. For this one, I would have liked more plot. I needed more world building. I finished it, but I'm not sure I'll be going on with the rest of the series.
Intriguing story! The cliffy at the end makes me want more! I want my own harem!!! Wait. That's a lot of men to wade through, ugh. I can go without my own harem. I'll just read about other people's. Hah! Yes! On to the next book.
I don’t know. I liked it? Sort of? There seemed to be an unnecessary amount of sex scenes without a whole lot of plot movement forward and the characters were very 2 dimensional.
im dnfing this book 88% in. Genuinely nothing has happened progress the book. its all smut, info dumping, commitment issues and man whining. its not the worse writing/writing style ive seen but it feels lazy. 2.5/3 stars.
???????????????? Pessoal assim, de verdade, pra quem vocês estão enviando seus trabalhos antes de publicar?????????????? Como que isso PASSOU????????????
Very good book, I wish there was a little less plot because it felt like it was dragging in points. I’m excited to see where the story goes in the next book and how steamy she can get with all of her men!
The reader didn't really get to know the characters . The story went from one sex scene to another. The building of this world was not great and story lack depth. The potential was there , but
First and foremost, the main female character is a complete B word. She’s selfish inconsiderate.. She has expectations of her mate bonds, but doesn’t hold herself to the same standards.
