Fifteen years ago, the worst night of her life led to Sutton Rausch calling it quits on her relationship with Lane Lawless.
Now a paramedic, Sutton’s world is once again flipped upside when Lane is shot and nearly dies. Old feelings she’s spent years trying to bury are dragged back to the surface. When her home is broken into and she narrowly escapes, Lane’s is the first place she runs for help.
His brush with death put a lot of things into perspective for the county sheriff. Letting Sutton go had been the worst mistake of Lane’s life, and when she moves in with him, he sees it as his chance to repair what broke between them.
The longer they live together, the closer they get. Sutton is reminded of everything she loves about Lane—especially the soft center beneath his broody, overprotective exterior. Lane realizes how much he missed Sutton’s sunshine in his life.
But not everyone is happy they’re rekindling their old romance, and they’ll do anything to drive a wedge between Sutton and Lane.
Lane will stop at nothing to keep Sutton safe and find who’s targeting them. So far, every threat has merely been a warning shot, but then next may shatter their second chance for good.

All I know is that I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! I actually don’t read any other romantic suspense books and I feel like I should bc it is a THRILL! But anyway! Amanda is that girl! She is literally killing it with this series! AND this one is a second chance which I LOOOOVE and she writes it so well!! Everything about the Lawless family makes my heart so happy! While they just happen to have crappy luck… them as a whole!! They’re so perfect! Amanda also leaves just enough crumbs about what’s to come?! I’m very excited about whatever is next!!!
Sutton and Lane were simply EVERYTHING to me. I loved how much they loved each other!! I loved how they so easily fell back into a rhythm, even before they really “got back together”. The fact that we’re in each other orbit again just made them both feel as ease and that was obvious.
Then even before the chaos (complimentary) that is this book, they really went through it. And I think Sutton’s assault and her, and even Lane’s, trauma surrounding that was written so well and so carefully. It was still very much on going for Sutton and just because her and Lane reunited she wasn’t automatically healed. Seeing him still be gentle and thoughtful surrounding that was not only necessary but also so sweet to see him putting in the work for their relationship!
And then literally everything else!!!! Amanda said that her beta reader called it “unhinged” and IT WAS!! Again VERY complimentary! It’s different than the other two but in such a refreshing way!! I love a good old fashioned police procedural, and this one was the episode that’s the mid season finale, where it’s just a little creepier, a little more serious (not that the other two weren’t bc they very much were!!!!), the tensions are high!!! Because they have to make sure everyone comes back!!! Genuinely it was so goooooood!
I love this series. I love Amanda. I loved the little Logan and Berkley cameos!! I loved seeing Owen!! And then mention of his and Delia’s little faaamily!
Thanks to Amanda Chaperon for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Listen, if you're taking yourself too seriously and never picking up a romantic suspense, what are you doing? I'm not big on the thriller genre, but I will gobble up a romantic suspense. Maybe its because there's ooey gooey marshmallow underneath the flaming, blackened outside. Maybe its because the pacing is so quick that I don't have time to think too hard about how scary what's happening to the characters is. Maybe its because I one hundred percent of the time devour them in under 24 hours. Maybe its because Amanda Chaperon just knows how to do it.
Is this book gratuitous? In every definition, in every lifetime, in every possibility, yes. Are we forgiving and justifying murder in the name of honor and love? Absolutely. Are we banging it out while being stalked? For sure. Are we using our occupations and life skills to maybe have our own militia and do whatever we want whether its against the law or not? Indubitably. (they are the Lawless brothers, for pete's sake) But just don't think too hard about it. Because its not that serious. And its a freaking good time.
Chaperon has nailed pacing and structure. She can inform you of the situation without going so deep into it that you start to question how logistically this could really all work out. She makes it feel real (but not too real) and exciting and fun and adventurous. I refuse to deny myself a good time like this.
Potato Chips in their finest form found right here. And what is a balanced diet without them?
OMFGG. I am done. Dead. Deceased. This book ruined me in the best possible way. I am going to need a few business days to recover. Dare I say though this was by far my favorite in the entire series.
While my crime junkie heart loved the first two, there was just something about this one. As one of Amanda’a beta readers said, it is “unhinged” and yes that is the perfect word for it. It is totally unhinged, but in the most perfect way. In the way that has you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails and refusing to put the book down because you NEED to find out what happens.
I am, and always will be a sucker for a second chance romance and Lane and Suttons were one of my absolute favorites. I loved how they just always loved each other even when they didn’t show it physically. It was just so obvious they were soulmates. End game in every way.
They really went through it though, especially Sutton. Poor sweet Sunny, but seeing all she endured and to still come out and be so empowering and badass? Honestly I am in awe of this woman. And Lane? HE IS THE MAN. He is protective, loyal and would do just about anything for the woman he loves, and I do mean ANYTHING.
I wish there was a way to go back and reread this again for the very first time because honestly this was one of my top reads of 2026! I cannot wait for more from this series.
𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕: 🩵 county sheriff x paramedic 🩵 small town romantic suspense 🩵 second chance 🩵 stālking, secrets, and sabotage 🩵 touch her & d!e 🩵 forced proximity 🩵 open door spice 🩵 psychological thriller vibes
I binged the first two books in this series and immediately sought an arc for Warning Shot because I needed to read Lane and Sutton's story as soon as I possibly could. And boy, did it not disappoint!
Our grumpy sheriff and favorite paramedic are finally in for their second chance story, thanks to... a stalker in town. They get closer, talk about their past, their feelings. Lane is so very protective and caring. Their chemistry is incredible.
And the suspense part... SO GOOD. We really get the psychological thriller vibes, having different points of view and really getting into the suspect's mind which was so pleasant to read!
And don't start me on the emotional aspect to this story. Their past... wow. I'm not sayong anything else because you need to experience it directly.
I am so very obsessed with this series and so happy I found out about it via Catherine Cowles nonetheless! Amanda Chaperon quickly became an auto-buy author for me and if you're into romantic suspense... READ IT!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 🌶️🌶️🌶️½ Sutton and Lane Congratulations to Amanda—this was an incredibly powerful story. There are some heavy topics that may be a trigger or turn-off for certain readers, but the author handles them with care and intention throughout the book. The main character, Sutton, is still dealing with the trauma of a rape that occurred almost 16 years ago—on New Year’s Eve, which is also her birthday. Many might say she didn’t receive the support she needed from her family at the time, yet she rose from the ashes and built a life for herself the best way she could. Lane was her boyfriend back then, and given how young they were, it’s understandable that circumstances weren’t handled in the best way. What’s truly beautiful is seeing these two mature adults come back into each other’s lives and help one another heal. Lane is unwaveringly supportive—his only goal is to see Sutton heal, find peace, and move beyond certain traumas at her own pace. There’s a strong suspense element woven throughout the story, along with a few morally gray moments. Just when you think you have everything figured out, the ending reveals that there’s so much more beneath the surface. Congratulations again, Amanda. I truly loved this book!
Another win for Amanda Chaperon! This book was such a hit. I truly love the Dusk Valley series and can not stress enough how much people should read these. I love the romantic suspense trope and that every book ends as a standalone but also all relate to the others. This one follows are favorite Sheriff Lane Lawless and paramedic Sutton Rausch. The tension that him and Sutton have, has definitely made way for a great story. Lane is so broody and grumpy. But I love seeing him open up more and the otherside of him in this book. I also really enjoyed seeing the antagonist perspective in this book. In the previous two, the reader doesn't find out who the "villian" is until the last couple chapters but this book we get some chapters from them. There is still a plot twist at the end I wasnt expecting but I loved getting both points of view in this one. Overall the plot, the love story, the SUSPENSE, and the spice was 5⭐️. It wasnt as nail biting as the other two but I feel like the tid bits of villan pov really kept you involved and wondering what was going to happen next. Loved it
Arc Review Infinity Stars First off I would like to thank Amanda for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Sutton Rausch & Lane Lawless OMG! I didn't think anyone could top Crew & Aspen but boy did this one do it. I'm OBSESSED with Lane & Sutton. I devour this book and didn't ever want it to end and was so excited to finally get to see Lane & Sutton get their happy ever after, cause boy did the earn it & after everything they went through and fought against just to get their second chance was so beautiful to see. Ugh I love this book and the tension and the suspense was so freaking great. I love how badd a$$ Sutton is and they fact that she pulled herself out of such a dark spot and was so much stronger for it. I love how devoted Lane was to Sutton and willing to cross any line to keep her safe. Ugh I need more!!!
5/5 Recommend this book. Y'all I'm obsessed with this series that Amanda is writing and they way she gives me the best of both worlds, the romance with the touch of suspense. She balances it so perfectly and keeps you on your toes the whole time.
This one sits somewhere in the middle for me. It’s a good pick if you’re just getting into romantic suspense and want something easy to follow, with drama and a second-chance romance at the center. For me, it was a smooth and quick read, but it didn’t feel like anything new. The story was quite predictable, and a lot of the tension was told to us instead of really shown through the characters’ actions and emotions. That’s a bit of a turn off for me, because I like to feel the angst and the chemistry rather than just be informed about it. It’s a shame, because the book had everything it needed to be more emotional and gripping, especially considering Sutton’s past and the whole second-chance dynamic. There was so much potential for deeper moments and stronger emotional impact. I just wish we had seen more of that on the page.
Overall, it’s an okay book. Not bad at all, just not very memorable for me.
I absolutely loved this book , right from the start it was exciting, cannot wait for this next book -the Lawless family live in my head rent free!
Lane is the Sheriff and Sutton a paramedic in the Fire Brigade, they both have a mutual loathing of each other or so it seems ..
Lane is nearly killed by a madman and Sutton saves his life and that's when feeling start to change and they both realise what they mean to each other, but Suttons past threatens to spoil everything .
Then there is several break-ins and Sutton goes to stay with Lane , meanwhile there are people who do not want to see them together and will do whatever it takes to keep them apart.
I'm trying not to give too much away ,but this book was the perfect mix of thriller, suspense and romance for me.
Cannot wait for the next book , and more Lawless family love and madness !
I swear this series just keeps getting better and better. Every single book raises the bar, and Warning Shot absolutely delivered.
Sutton and Lane? Electric. The chemistry, the tension, the YEARNING? I ate up every single second of it. Give me second chance romance with unresolved feelings and all that emotional weight still simmering under the surface and I am SOLD. Add in forced proximity and a caretaker dynamic? I never stood a chance!
The romantic suspense element had me completely hooked. The stakes felt real, the tension was sharp, and I loved the added chapters from the villain’s point of view — such a nice touch.
Lane and Sutton together are just magnetic. You feel every look, every almost-touch, every moment of vulnerability. It’s protective, it’s emotional, it’s high-stakes romance done right. You truly can’t go wrong picking up this book — or this entire series. If you’re not reading Amanda Chaperon yet, this is your sign.
Y'all know I am a massive massive fan of Amanda Chaperon and the Dusk Valley series, and she never, ever disappoints me.
Sutton saved Lane's life when he was shot last year. And now someone is breaking into her house, following her at work, and the only place she feels safe is at the house of the grumpy Sheriff and her college love's house- Lane's house.
Romantic suspense is my jam - I want things steaming and tense in more ways than one. This book was slightly different in that the whole way through you knew who was doing it- there were chapters from their perspective - but you couldn't quite figure out how, and that was what I loved, the tension! Plus Sutton and Lane were so sweet, the way that they gave in to each other was very lovely.
A million five stars for Amanda, please, in exchange for more stories.
Lane and Sutton have always been an interesting dynamic. In this one you find out why.
Knowing Lane was going down both he and Sutton decided that they needed to figure it out. Neither was sure what the other thought so that took some time, but they got there in the end.
These two were so cute together. They fought hard for their love and made sure to keep ahold of it with both hands. I loved that these two supported each other and knew how to read each other so well.
These two had so much fun and love going even when they tried to fight it. I’m glad that these two wanted to work together. I’m not sure it would have been so good if they fought for most of the book.
They had some bumps in the road to work through but they worked together and always stayed true to the course. I loved this one.
This series has been such a ride so far with the suspense, the romance, and the couple pairings. Lane and Sutton were the second chance that was needed. To go from a new couple back in college to then ghosting due to trauma, whoo wee Lane was already down bad, but he gave her the space. I'd argue that 15 years was too much space, but they were both a little hard headed in this area because hard things. 🤷♀️ Thankfully a little stalking turns almost deadly and Lane turns into the immediate protector for Sutton, a wise up moment if you will. If he can't have her, at least she'll be safe.
I love the glimpses we get with past characters and the upcoming ones in this series. The tight knit family of the Lawless family is absolutely the best and the group chat is always good for a few jokes between the siblings.
Thank you to Amanda Chaperon for the eARC. I loved returning to Dusk Valley as an Idaho girlie myself. From literally the first chapter I was hooked. The character development and growth is top notch. I loved seeing Sutton overcome her trauma and let Lane in all the way. I think I may have shed a tear or two when Lane woke up from his coma. I may have screamed at Lane for being so naive and trusting. The nostalgic feeling I got when reading about the high school state championship, from a small town who goes all out when our kiddos make it to any sort of state tournament this gave me the warm and fuzzies. I did think i had all the answers up until they were all reveled. Over all 4 star read.
From start to finish this had me in a chokehold. We picked up exactly where we left off in Distress Signal, and hit the ground running. The tension, the suspense, the EMOTIONS - *chef's kiss* - I cried, I giggled, I swooned, I screamed (because let's be honest our guy Lane needed to be shaken a little right? 🤪) I was fully invested. I am loving the Lawless crew, and I want MORE.

I couldn't wait for Lane and Sutton's story and I was not disappointed. This second chance, misunderstood "hate" to rekindled lovers is gorgeous and as always the crime / thriller elements in these stories is gripping.
The first chapter immediately draws you in with action, history and an admission. LOVE IT.
Chapter 22 is so hot and intimate and SAFE. Adore.
The way Amanda tackles the subject of rape and long standing trauma is really sensitive and real.
Once again, seeing the Lawless family rally around for each other and "outsiders" is wonderful.
I'm unsure if I ever want to move to Dusk Valley though 😂
I am very appreciative of Amanda Chaperon and their team for the opportunity to read an e-ARC of Warning Shot!
I loved getting to know Sutton, Lane, and the whole Lawless crew!! And I really enjoyed seeing how Sutton and Lane learned to heal and trust each other again. Their relationship was so tender.
This storyline was so entertaining! I was constantly on my toes guessing what would happen next. I also loved that Sutton and Lane could always rely on his family to offer support—I can’t wait for Trey’s story!
These two I think are my favorite couple so far of the series. Which is wild because I don’t normally love love second chance, but the reason behind things struck hard.
Sutton: our resident emt girl On a string of bad luck Past trauma
Lane: the sheriff Tatted up strict hottie Obviously has the protector vibes going
Que the crazies. You know I kind of liked how we knew who the “bad guy” was. Even though we didn’t know the extent or all the twists. A+ for that element/chapters
I LOVE a second chance at romance trope, and this was written so beautifully.
Warning Shot is heavy in the themes. Definitely check trigger warnings.
Lane has intrigued me from the very first book and getting to read his story was incredible. Finn stole my heart the last book but Lane 🥵 Definitely my new favorite.
Sutton was an inspiration. Such a strong & brave FMC.
Another Dusk Valley banger!! Suspense, some dark aspects and a sweet romance mixed in.
Sutton and Lane were college sweethearts but Sutton pushed Lane away after a terrible tragedy. And Lane was too young to fight for her.
Now reunited they have their second chance. And they both are focused on the each other and proving they can get through everything if they are together.
Please check the TWs if needed your mental health matters. 🫶🏻💜
This book had me invested in the suspenseful plot. The way the story developed was so good. Lane and Sutton were the perfect main characters. I absolutely enjoyed the back and forth between them. The relationship moved at the perfect pace, and I enjoyed the moments they shared, and it was fun to read who broke first and rekindled the spark that was definitely between them. The suspense in this book was perfect, I loved how it definitely brought out Lane's protectiveness and Sutton's determination to get herself out of a bad situation.
All the stars !!!!! This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and I was squealing reading this I loved it 😭😭🥰🥰. The tension the romance the suspense Amanda did it so well 👏👏👏 I won’t say any spoilers but the way she did the villain was so good it has you frustrated and shouting it’s themmm.
Lane and Sutton have my heart 😭😭😭I love them have since book 1 and now hearing their story and them learning to trust that love. Was perfect
Amanda has done it again!!! Book 3 in the Dusk Valley series has left me wanting more and more!!
This book follows Lane, the county sheriff and his journey back to his greatest love! Will he get her? Or is something standing in their way, or someone👀
I cannot say this enough but Amanda you were meant to write this genre!! Romantic suspense has now become my fav thanks to you!! I can’t wait for book 4!🔥🔥
If you loved Fire Fight and Distress Signal, you’ll love Warning Shot! I couldn’t have imagined a better suspenseful love story for Sutton and Lane. My heartstrings were tugged, I was on the edge of my seat, and I loved all of the spice perfectly spaced throughout this story. If you wanted a perfect romance psychological thriller, this is it!
OMG OMG OMG this book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time! I love Amanda Chaperon’s “who did it” vibes, the yearning, the found family. Ugh it was just such a good book I literally couldn’t put it down cause I just had to know how everything played out. And then finding out the secret that the sheriff was hiding 😏
First this book deserves more than 5 stars! These books suck me right in and I can’t put them down. Until I’m close to finishing and then I procrastinate because it can’t be over! Lane and Sutton are my absolute FAVORITE!!! I can confidently say that it’s only February but this is one of my top books of 2026 and will stay on that list of favorites!
I love romantic suspense. I enjoy solving crime while watching people fall in love! Sutton and Lane were written in the stars. Watching them get their second chance was great. Sutton was working through some very difficult issues. Lane’s love and support was everything! This was classic case of: it’s always been you! I enjoyed it and I think you will too.
The Dusk Valley series just keeps getting better and better. Amanda brings up tough topics in the most tasteful way in her books and I couldn’t love her writing more. I can’t wait to see what the next in the series brings!
