Private Investigator Hattie Leiper, accompanied by Moose and her spirited Yorkie, Mini Pearl, uncovers an old handbag hidden behind the Leiper’s Fork Distillery during an outing with her close friend, Gracie, her boyfriend, Tim, and Detective Bo Beckett, who is also Hattie’s acquaintance. We must also mention Cecil, Hattie’s crime-attracting British Shorthair.

I adore it when the furry companions join Gracie; I love how she interacts with them, speaking to them as if she understands their conversations. That scene was my favorite.

After discovering the vintage purse, Hattie stumbles upon a skeleton in a barrel located in the distillery's back room. The remains belong to a woman named Quinn Bailey, who vanished two years prior.

While some believed Quinn left voluntarily, others speculated she had gone missing under mysterious circumstances. Hattie was puzzled about how Quinn ended up in a barrel, but it’s unlikely that she put herself there, right?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Murder, Mistletoe & Spirits; it captivated me from the very first page and kept me hooked until the conclusion. I can’t get enough of these crime-solving pets. I eagerly anticipate the next installment in the Hattie and Moose Cozy Mystery series to discover what adventures await Moose, Mini Pearl, Cecil, Hattie, Bo, and Gracie.

The numerous twists and turns in Murder, Mistletoe & Spirits, along with Hattie’s charming furry friends, are what keep me returning for more.

As always, I wholeheartedly recommend picking up a copy of Murder, Mistletoe & Spirits today or any of the books in the Hattie and Moose Cozy Mystery series. If you enjoy cozy animal mysteries, you’re sure to relish any of Hattie and Moose’s tales.

Oh my what’s up with the rye ? Well it’s bourbon and it’s the spirit and the barrel that’s supposed to age and give body …Not a physical body of a missing person. There is tension and there’s mystery that takes some time to ferment ,no argument it doesn’t bode well and what’s that smell . Is this barrel off? Hattie Leiper PI is investigating when her Chow Chow Moose and tiny terror mini Yorkie Pearl help her to discover a long forgotten barrel in the rickhouse thanks to some apparel Moose found not lying on the ground but buried in soil. A satchel belonging to a person they all thought had fled but now what they’re thinking ,is she dead? Quinn was either cherished or despised by all who knew her ,it’s not looking good… Oo’er ! Short haired Cecil completes the furry pack but then there would be beau Detective Bo Beckett on who she depends as well as friends Gracie and her boyfriend Tim. They sure help a girl out when needed and all . Her Bo most of all …but I digress . Where was I ? Oh yes ,anyway it seems that everything is not quite as it seems and as they look around at the gathered party who have secrets to hide. It’s not hale and hearty but acute awareness that’s it’s a sorry business is this crime . Can Hattie come up with the whole sorry story this time and delve deeper to uncover what happened and why. With a sigh she’s soon making a statement about just this and a terrible business it is. Great immersive writing as ever with clever weaves meant to deceive I’m sure by Greta Sinclair who spins a storyline so thorough . So divinely and timely and ever so sublimely . She emits grins from us all as we read with greed at the antics and all as well as the somewhat frantic goings on . A mystery and all and quite the murder rate but I think this series is great ,first rate and best of all excellently compelling storytelling too.

This might be the most poorly written book I have ever read. The prose is clunky and needs serious editing, the plot is incredibly inconsistent, and the characters are entirely indistinguishable from one another.

This book could benefit from the use of a thesaurus — it is riddled with repetition and the reiteration of sentiments already stated. Conversations between characters are robotic, and the author seemed to forget who was speaking halfway through the dialogue; unless Quinn’s mother also had a new boyfriend she’d like her daughter to meet (P#65)? None of the characters had a distinct ‘voice’; they all sounded like the author. As such, the stated characterization of the members of Hattie’s Scooby gang fall flat. Details are surprisingly sparse for a book that markets itself as a mystery, and the conclusions the characters draw from these clues are deeply flawed and can be quickly disproven by anybody with access to a search engine. The plot isn’t even internally consistent. Never does the novel establish a timeline of events. It is as if the author forgot what she had written two chapters ago and never bothered to go back and check. The relationship between the main character and the detective is odd. It is supposedly a slow burn, yet they behave as if they are already together, so the ‘romance’ has no impact. The contributions of the pets were far too convenient to the plot to be believable, and their appearance in nearly every scene is inappropriate. Bringing your three pets to a stranger’s funeral is inappropriate, regardless of whether the host gives you permission or not. Bringing two dogs and a cat to make an arrest is equally inappropriate. I know it’s a shtick, but suspension of disbelief can’t stretch that far, especially when no other character comments on how unusual this behavior is.

Many of the issues with this book could have easily been fixed with thorough editing, google, and some basic common sense. I would recommend reading anything other than this novel.

Murder, Mistletoe & Spirits is a such a fun read leading up to the holidays! I enjoyed the small-town atmosphere, the warm friendships, and the intriguing mystery that kept me guessing. The pacing was well written with just the right amount of suspense to keep things engaging.

Hattie is thrilled about her blossoming romance with Detective Bo and is looking forward to a double date with her best friend Gracie and Gracie's boyfriend, Tim. They anticipate a quiet evening at the distillery, but their plans take a shocking turn when a dead body is discovered in a bourbon barrel. The victim, Quinn, is a woman who had been missing for years, with everyone believing she had simply left town. Hattie feels compelled to get involved in solving this cold case. How did Quinn end up at the bottom of a bourbon barrel? This question propels Hattie and Detective Bo into an investigation filled with unexpected secrets.

I really enjoyed the mystery and the investigation process, as well as the blossoming romance between Hattie and Bo. The only aspect that occasionally disrupted my immersion in the story was the portrayal of the animals. I love animals, especially dogs, but there were several instances where Hattie's two dogs, Moose and Minie Pearl, along with her cat, Cecil, seemed to engage in their own conversations. This felt somewhat unrealistic and didn't quite fit the story. While it didn't ruin the book for me, it did momentarily pull me out of the mystery.

If you enjoy a captivating whodunit filled with twists and turns as you seek out the killer, along with a fun protagonist, a hint of romance, quirky characters, and entertaining pets, then you will definitely love this series.

Hattie and Bo are trying for a well-deserved rest and a double date with Tim and Gracie. They are off to a distillery. Thing is, it’s Hattie we’re talking about here: murder and mayhem follow her. To be fair, it is probably Moose which starts it off, but once that happens, Hattie has to finish it.
A great story in the lead up to Christmas with plenty of suspects lining up as to who killed Quinn, who used to work at the distillery… and vanished.
Hattie is the one who mostly tells the story. She does well in finding the culprit eventually, but there is so much left unresolved which she needs to draw to a conclusion. She wants to bring closure for Quinn’s family and just finding the murderer doesn’t quite cut it: she needs to root out why it happened. The point of view is different in a few chapters… done in a most interesting and appropriate way. It gives us an insight into the wider Leiper household and some new friends. It also explains why Moose has been so welcoming to Bo.
This is a real cozy Christmas mystery with a goodly portion of Christmas spirit… in all senses of the word… and a lovely bit of background right at the end of the book.
The Christmas scene is such a wonderful end — and a great segue in to the next instalment! ☺️

Hattie Leiper’s boyfriend, Police Detective Bo Beckett, has arranged a long overdue “day off”- an outing to visit the Leiper's Fork Distillery. Joining them are their friends Gracie Biscuit, her boyfriend, Tim, as well as Hattie’s furry assistants- Moose, the Chow Chow, Mini Pearl, her adopted Yorkie, and Cecil, her sassy British Shorthair cat.
The distillery is beautiful and Hattie and Gracie are talking in the tasting room when Moose darts towards the door, leading the group on a merry chase. He pulls to a halt under a tree, where he digs up a half-buried satchel. Moments later, Moose is off again, this time leading Hattie and Bo to an old rickhouse, where a barrel at the back is found to contain a human skeleton!
This is another outstanding cozy by Greta Sinclair! I have enjoyed this series since its beginning (Murder, Music & Mischief) and I’ve loved every book!
There are all the things I love in cozy mystery- secrets, lies and plot twists. I couldn't put it down!
I was honored to receive this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and I am happy to leave this voluntary review.

I have to admit., I picked up my first Hattie and Moose cozy mystery because of the cover. A chow in glasses? Precious. Toss in a Yorkie and a cat, I'm there! That first mystery hooked me, Hattie Leiper giving me Jessica Fletcher-ish vibes. Doesn't hurt that Greta Sinclair weaves a mean storyline.
Oh, Detective Bo has it bad. Not only does he arrange a double date outing at a Bourbon Distillery, he makes sure that the fur baby members of Hattie's team get to go. Along with Gracie and Tim, they go on a Bourbon tasting tour (yum). Cecil digs up a bag/satchel. And Moose unbarrels a corpse.
Twists and turns, red herrings, this is an edge of the seat story. It's a good mystery and even if it's not too hard to see who-dun-it, it was fun getting there.
I do have some complaints. Fake trees are a crime against humanity, some thing that Cecil agrees with. And that bow? "Dignity in distress" indeed. (p 167). Yorkies are easy and Mini Pearl is a fashionista. We won't mention reindeer antlers.
A fun, quick read. Thanks, Greta, for the recipes. The toddy was great.

This novel delivers what a holiday cozy mystery promises: a festive setting, an interesting whodunit, and a protagonist readers can root for.

The plot is well-paced and engaging, beginning with a lighthearted distillery visit that turns dark when bones are discovered.

The mystery unfolds, with clues revealed through interviews, physical evidence, and careful timeline reconstruction, keeping the reader invested without becoming convoluted.

The characters are one of the book’s strongest elements.

Hattie Leiper is a likable and capable amateur sleuth whose emotional reactions feel genuine. Her dynamic with Detective Bo Beckett adds warmth and muted tension, while the supporting cast, especially the distillery staff, offers believable motives and interpersonal conflict.

The animal companions are quite enjoyable, providing charm and occasional humour while still contributing to the investigation.

The writing style is clear, accessible, and well-suited to the cozy mystery genre, with a strong sense of place and seasonal atmosphere.

Recommended for readers who enjoy holiday cozies, Southern settings, and character-driven mysteries with heart.

Another great addition to the Hattie and Moose Cozy Mystery series!

Once again, we’re back with Hattie, Moose the chow, Cecil her cat, and Mini Pearl, the newest addition to her family—a Yorkie. This time though, her boyfriend, Detective Bo has arranged a double date along with Hattie’s BFF Gracie and Gracie’s boyfriend, Tim. Big shock, while at the distillery, Moose ends up leading Hattie to a body in a barrel. And even bigger shock, Hattie insists on helping Bo solve the mystery of who committed the murder.
This story was a bit different than the others in the series because in this one we are actually let into the point of view of Hattie’s fur babies. I particularly enjoyed that. We also have the deepening relationship developing between Hattie and Bo, along with Gracie and Tim. Not to mention, the satisfying conclusion to the murder.

Greta was able to do another excellent job with this book just like she has with all her other books. This is the 5th book in this series, and I love how she can seem to get Hattie Leiper and her family of pets with her boyfriend Detective Bo Beckett into more adventures into trying to solve another murder case. There are just so many suspects and twists and turns that you just can not put the book down until you have finished it. I love how the author was able to bring in two more animals to the story and how she was able to let everyone know what they were thinking it was so cute. With everything going on Bo & Hattie are starting to realize that they are more than friends but just want to continue the way they are right now and take it slow. I how that Greta will continue with what she has started with these two as well as with Gracie & Tim. I am looking forward to the next book in the series to see what everyone gets up to.

Private investigator Hattie Leiper and Detective Bo Beckett were hoping for a crime-free date night at Leiper’s Fork Distillery when her dogs, Moose and Mini Pearl, stumble upon body of a missing distillery employee. Hattie and Bo work together to find out who the killer is and the motive behind the murder.

I love the books from the Hattie and Moose Cozy Mysteries series and this one is no exception. Sinclair does a wonderful job of creating characters that the reader can relate to and root for. Moose, Mimi Pearl and Cecil, along with Hattie’s best friend Gracie bring some levity to the story. And the slow burn romance between Hattie and Bo is becoming a bit more fiery. It’s a great mystery with several twists and turns. I highly recommend this book to cozy mystery readers!

I was gifted this book and all opinions expressed in the review are my own.

A fun addition to the Hattie and Moose cozy mystery series that pulls you in and keeps you turning pages. PI Hattie Leiper, Detective Bo Beckett, Hattie's best friend, Gracie and her boyfriend Tim went on a fun outing to the Leiper’s Fork Distillery. But when Hattie's intuitive and intelligent Chow Chow, Moose digs up a bag behind the distillery and the body of Quinn Bailey, who went missing is now found in a barrel, the case is on. With Hattie is all the furries, Moose, her Yorkie, Mini Pearl, the very clever, Cecil, Gracie, Detective Bo dig in and find either people loved Quinn or they hated her. With so many secrets, rivalries and twists and turns, we are taken to a great ending. I highly recommend this book. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

An outing at Leiper's Fork Distillery was supposed to be fun and exciting not diving into a mystery. The Chow Chow Moose on instinct digs up a buried bag which then leads into secrets. PI Hattie can't just leave a mystery so soon her and her animals (Moose, the Yorkie Mini Pearl, and Cecil the cat) are looking for clues. A missing employee is found not to have walked away after all when a barrel is discovered. The victim was either loved or heavily disliked. Hattie and the gang need to discover what happened before the killer decides to silence them. This adventure was fantastic. I love how Hattie communicates with her animals. All wonderful characters!.

Murder, Mistletoe & Spirits begins with an upbeat double date day for Hattie and friends but soon turns deadly. Listed as “A Spirited Southern Holiday Cozy Murder Mystery,” this fifth A Hattie and Moose book was a fun read by Greta Sinclair. There is humor, relationship building and camaraderie between the regular characters. As for the missing employee who was later found dead, everyone at the distillery either loved or hated. It takes all including the canines to catch this killer before more fall victim. A holiday story that involves solving a murder before the celebration can truly happen. 4.5 Stars

Death at the distillery
A double date with boyfriend Bo and bestie Gracie & Tim, along with her pet posse at Leiper's Fork Distillery ends with the discovery of a buried satchel and skeleton in a barrel. When the body is identified as a former distillery worker the hunt is on to solve this five year old mystery. Hattie and Bo work together to find out who is responsible, and also move their own relationship to a new level. A fine mystery and characters who have grown through the series make this a very enjoyable read.

Hattie, Bo, Tim, and Gracie are going to do a whiskey tasting and they had gotten permission to bring the furry pack with them. Of course Moose and Minnie Pearl had to dig up a satchel under a tree and find an old barrel with something other than whiskey in it. So starts the investigation into a lady named Quinn that had disappeared years before. Hattie and Bo spent a lot of time working on this case and the twists that came up made everyone surprised.
Another great story!

Murder, Mistletoe & Spirits

A PI, her boyfriend, the Police Detective and their friends just want to have a fun day touring a distillery and taste some whiskeys and bourbon (after all, it's Nashville, Tennessee) but their fun plan comes to a screeching halt with the discovery of a corpse in a barrel! The story begins there, so follow along with Hattie, Bo, and friends as they solve a five year old murder. They get help from 2 dogs, one cat, and a ghost! Read the book to find out how it works out in time to have a good Christmas...

Here we go again: This is supposed to be a fun time without mystery—Bo, Hattie Gracie, and Tim on a double date. Of course, the fur-detectives are a part of this scene as well. If they had left Moose at home, perhaps the body would have remained hidden. All three—Moose, Mini Pearl, and Cecil—contribute to the solution of this cold case. Greta weaves the PI, police detective, and friends with the music scene in a way that makes us want to know more as the story unwinds. Just try to stop in the middle of this book! I read an ARC of Murder, Mistletoe, & Spirits.

A holiday trip to Leiper's Fork Distillery is anything but festive when Hattie's Chow Chow Moose digs up a satchel. Before long, with Moose and her Yorkie Mini Pearl helping, Hattie discovers an old barrel that proves an employee was killed years ago. Hattie is drawn into the investigation filled with secrets, rivalry, and plenty of Christmas spirit. The story is filled with twists and turns and the charming antics of Moose, Mini Pearl and Cecil the cat! Loved this story and I can't wait for more!

I am loving this series!
Great set of characters and good plot.
Out on a double date to Leiper's Fork Distillery, Hattie, Bo, Gracie and Tim were looking forward to time away from work and some taste testing.
When Moose, Mini Pearl and even Cecil found a satchel buried with a wallet, the peaceful night took a turn into chaos.
This story makes you laugh, get angry and cry all before the end but it is all worth it. Highly recommend it!

Distillery discovery!

A shocking discovery with unsettling clues in an investigation kept me glued to the pages of this story.  Of course, Hettie and Bo are the human stars, but my favourite characters are the clever fur babies, Moose, Mini Pearl and Cecil.  Another great book in a super series by Greta Sinclair!

A fun Christmas mystery!

A 200-year-old cabin, some Tennessee Bourbon and a bunch of crazy pets make this an entertaining and fun story! Take two cats - one a Hemingway cat with extra toes - one large and one small dog, one 5-year-old murder victim discovered in a whiskey barrel and the commotion that a menagerie like this can cause, and get ready for some laughs! Can Detective Bo and Hattie figure this one out?

This book has everything it needed to be amazing. There was intrigue, cute animals, mystery, and a killer ending. I was wrapped up in the story from the get go and read it straight through to know what happened. And the ending did not disappoint. I really felt like I was there alongside Hattie trying to figure out who did what now. Greta did not miss with this one. So good. And I have to try the recipes at the end. They sound so good!

I love that this series is set in Nashville. This time Hattie and the gang end up finding a body, the investigation gets going. I absolutely love Moose - I had a grumpy dog just like Moose and miss him every day. Of course Cecil has the chops for the investigation and drags Hattie into everything. Just an overall good cozy mystery set in a great town, with lots of awesome animals!.

Hattie, Bo, Gracie, and Tim plus the fur babies think they are going on a fun date tasting spirits. However they end up finding a missing person and having to discover how she died. With the help of a ghost and two other fur babies they crack the case. I have to say that the ending made me laugh. A good read that I would recommend.

Love this series. Love the critters, always so helpful. A body is discovered in a liquor storage/curing barrel at a local distillery where Hattie, Bo, and crew go to a tasteing event. The body of an employee who people assumed had left town long ago. Lots of suspects, action, and Moose, Minnie Pearl, and Cecil are a big part of solving the crime, literally digging up clues. Keeps you turning pages to find the answers. Really enjoyed it.

I just LOVE this series. In this book we’re at a distillery! These characters (and furbabies) are just such fun to read. Ms. Sinclair does a good job keeping the reader wondering and guessing at whodunnit which makes it hard to put down. I am so glad to be an ARC reader for such a great series with such varied story lines. Good job Ms. S!

This was my first time reading this author and it didn't take me that long to get into the characters and the relationships. It felt a very different book with the animals taking on such a lead - loved it.

Will definitely read more as the book was very enjoyable and a nice easy read. Sometime you just need that.

Enjoyable Christmas season mystery. An outing to a distillery ends in a body being found. PI Hattie and her friends, both human and animal are on the case. I loved the chapters from the animals perspective. Even after the crime is solved there are some loose ends that need to be wrapped up. Hattie does it with style.
