Stranded in a blizzard—with former professional hockey players now living as lumberjack mountain men
My life is a literal dumpster fire. I hate my cubicle corporate job—and I just caught my boss burning files in the dumpster behind the building.
I'm done.
I'm done with boring spreadsheets. My tiny, miserable apartment. My lying, cheating ex-husband who took me for everything I had except our dog. Most of all, I'm done with the snow and cold of Colorado. I only moved here for my ex, and I hate the snow. So I pack up my bags, load my Husky into the car, and head home to visit my parents in Vegas.
Only to slide off the mountain road in the middle of a blizzard.
Luckily for me, a lumberjack complete with flannel and beard comes to my rescue, though with his partially shaved head, he looks like a rock star. A former professional hockey player turned homesteader, he takes me to his friend's cabin, but no one's home. He goes looking for his buddy, leaving me in the snug, cozy cabin. I dose off...
Only to wake up to a grumpy giant glaring at me.
He's furious to find an unwanted female guest in his home, especially when he finds out his friend dropped me off. Evidently he thinks I'm a hockey groupie, even though I have no idea who he is. Talk about mistaken identity. I don't know anything about the sport.
When yet another bearded man shows up for dinner, I wonder if I've stumbled into Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Only there's just four lumberjacks.
Absolutely loved this book. Darby is amazing. I love how she is putting her life back together and how she brings out the best in all the boys. Such a great story. Lots of laughs, a few tears and lots of spicy scenes. Can't wait for the next book to see what happens next.
Darby was done with her life in Colorado. She packs herself and her dog into a car and heads south in search of greener and warmer beginnings. The weather has other ideas as a blizzard leaves her stranded with a bunch of big, sexy lumberjacks. Although maybe this is where Darby was meant to be all along.
“It’s like I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole and ended up in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Only it’s just four lumberjacks. And me.”
Darby was already done with Colorado after the harsh winters and her messy divorce. When she arrived at work, finding her supervisor burning files and investigators swarming the building, she gladly took the vacation time offered to her. She intended to visit her parents in Las Vegas, but was stranded in Mooseville, where the only residents are two retired hockey players, a cop turned author, and a former surgeon. Darby slowly begins to fall for some of her lumberjack saviors and gives herself permission to have some fun. The only question is, do these flings have expiration dates, or is this the beginning of something more?
“I want every single word of this epic tale of how one pretty little gal wrapped the formidable Mighty Zon around her pinkie.”
Blizzard Bound is the first in a new reverse harem (one female lead with multiple male leads/love interests) by Sharen Dane. I have read books by this author under her various pen names, and she is one of my favorites. She adds more to her romance books than just traditional tropes; her books often feature themes of feminine power. We see this with Darby as she begins to regain her freedom, confidence, and sense of self after her divorce.
I enjoyed how the writer took advantage of the reverse harem concept to play with multiple tropes. Darby’s relationship with each male character is unique, with a grouchy insta-love relationship, the cocky but secretly vulnerable Casanova, the quiet writer, and the beginnings of an enemies-to-lovers relationship. Reverse harems feature multiple characters to play with, and it is smart and creative when authors take advantage of that to play with multiple tropes and see how these different male leads interact instead of being slightly tweaked copies of each other.
“I didn’t have your name at first. I didn’t know what you were. Now, I know, and your name is my most fervent prayer. A blessing I don’t deserve. My wish. My hope. My light. The fire burning in the window, calling me home. An oath I will always keep.”
This series has much potential, and I am looking forward to seeing what’s next for Darby and her men.
I don’t know what happened, but this wasn’t for me. It almost reads as a diary of a divorcee and I actually felt awkward reading this. I love the idea of writing to heal yourself, but somehow this was like a dream fantasy divorce payback scenario and it didn’t mesh with me. Super weird, because I have adored the other books under this pen name. It was this super fast dazzling whirlwind that was suddenly one guy out there pestering his friends to get with his girl and I didn’t feel like I had the background or communication needed to back it up. I found it to be a pretty slow start, and by the time fun stuff was happening I’d already checked out and started skimming. Not to spoil ice night, but if it still had my attention I maybe would have loved this. Or found it super hammy. I have no idea; by the time I got there I was just indifferent. I did read it while super tired, which may have had an impact, but ultimately I just didn’t care about anything going on in here. It's low on smut, (or I’ve just read too many way higher in smut recently) but teases with the promise of more. This is planned as part one of a duet for the characters in the series according to the author note at the end (Scrap that; she’s since said trilogy and she thought we’d all know. Maybe don’t number it book four when book five already exists). *Addendum* The author now has a book breakdown in the blurb that should clear anything up.* For how insta the rest of it is it seems weird to drag one guy out like this, especially as we all know exactly how this will end. My prediction is pregnant with multiples by the end of the third book.
**Caution:** This book is dangerously hard to put down—you might just read straight through until your alarm rings. A fairytale life? Not even close. Her worthless ex has claimed half of the business she poured her heart into, forcing her to sell out. Then she arrives at work just in time to see her boss burning financial files in the dumpster—right before the police show up to arrest him. As if that weren’t enough, she ends up sliding off the road in a blizzard on her way to grab a little sun and downtime with her parents in Vegas. What follows is a steamy, dreamy, why-choose fairytale set against a Colorado winter wonderland.
I enjoyed this book so much and can't wait for the rest of Darby's story! I have loved all of this author's stories but I think this one was my fav, and that's a hard thing to decide! I super love WC when the guys are all comfortable with each other and not constantly "no homo, bro", whether in sex scenes or every day interactions. These guys are truly comfortable with themselves and each other and love each other with a fierceness that has nothing to do with their sexuality.
I recommend this book to everyone who loves WC and Found Family and Huskies. <3
I really enjoyed reading this book however I think it doesn’t stand up as strongly to the author’s earlier books in the series. It felt very booktok coded than Hallmark movie (as the author labels it) which may be someone’s cup of tea but at times felt juvenile to me.
I was also not a fan of the lack of heads up that this isn’t a stand alone.
Need book 2! Now!..... please 🙏 🥺 Really enjoyed the characters and story. love a canine side kick that's included, not just mentioned once or twice. 💖 If you're into insta love reverse harem with some angsty drama from one of the guys, then this is the book for you.
Darby's life has suddenly gone crazy.....again. First her marriage and now she finds out her boss has been doing illegal stuff. His boss gives her a couple of weeks off and she decides to visit her parents. Of course, nothing goes as planned and she ends up stranded in her car in a blizzard.
love this book! can't wait to read the continuation of the story. the author really bring you into their world. I really want to see the guys back her up with michael, and I hope she can heal the friendship and whatever is eating doyal so EVERYONE can have their happiness, together. adore the dog.
This book was really fun to read. Skadi the adorable attention seeker is a show stealing dog! I like the difference in each friend, how they compliment one another and the bond they’ve shared for decades. The scenes on ice were pure magic.
Such a great story - need the sequel! Love the dynamics of the friendships and Darby finds someone x at least 2 to treat her well but needs the full story now. They are a package deal!
