Hockey sensation Knox St. James isn't looking for love. He just wants one week of fun in the sun with his teammates before he moves cross-country to become an official member of the NHL. But when he meets the girl of his dreams during a hyper-competitive round of Beach Olympics, he knows he has to shoot his shot.
Everyone says that what happens in Cancun stays in Cancun, but can Knox turn one night into forever?
Jennifer Bonds is the USA Today bestselling author of sizzling contemporary romance with sassy heroines, sexy alphas, and a whole lot of mischief. She’s a sucker for enemies-to-lovers stories, laugh-out-loud banter, and over-the-top grand gestures. Jennifer lives in Pennsylvania, where her overactive imagination and weakness for reality TV keep life interesting. She's lucky enough to live with her own real-life hero, two adorable (and sometimes crazy) children, and one rambunctious K9. Loves Buffy, Mexican food, a solid Netflix binge, the Winchester brothers, cupcakes, and all things zombie. Sings off-key.
This was a short and steamy novella between a guy who just got drafted and is celebrating in Cancun with his college team and a girl that just finished getting her masters degree and is there with her 2 best friends. This does leave on a cliffhanger, and I'm so ready for their book to come out!!
Tropes: 🏒 Hockey Player/Good Girl ☀️ Vacation in Cancun 🏒 One Night Stand ☀️ Tattoo Dare 🏒 Right Person, Wrong Time ☀️ One Bed 🏒 CLIFFHANGER
This was such a fun read. At only 10 chapters, I finished this book in like 2 hours. A very quick read that you won't want to put down. It does end on a cliffy, so be warned on that. This novella has me ready for Knox and Ava's book to be finished and out already. Their next book, The Good Girl Trap, is coming out March 13, 2026 and I can't wait.
Ava has just finished getting her masters degree in sports medicine. Her best friends took her to Cancun for vacation and to let loose. She is a wallflower, pretty much. Did nothing but work hard and study to get her degree. She hasn't even slept with anyone in over 2 years, since he ex-boyfriend.
Knox has just been drafted to the NHL, and he is down in Cancun with his college teammates to celebrate. He was the captain of the hockey team, but he's leaving to start his new life and going to leave his friends behind
The bar they are at calls out they are doing their own version of Friday afternoon beach Olympics. Of course they all want to join. The hockey boys being athletes and competitive and Ava's friends are the same way.
Ava meets Knox and she calls him Flamingo Boy because his swim trucks are covered in pink flamingos. Knox calls Ava Tink because she so small and reminds him of tinkerbell, only with brown hair. There is an instant attraction between them and Ava notices she is comfortable around him and relaxed.
When both teams tie after the 3rd game, they take it inside and 1 person will spin a special wheel that tells you what you have to do, (drink a double shot, chug a corona) pretty much drinking dares. Only they have hidden parts to them. Like Ava got chug a corona but she had to chug it out of a huge pink peen bong. That part was funny and Knox got the only none drinking challenge.
They both pretty much didn't want to do their task, so Ava places a dare on top of it. Whoever loses has to get a tattoo of the winners choosing. And neither of them has a tattoo.
Knox invites Ava back to his room once they finish at the tattoo place. She is never this kind of girl, but decides to go with him. It's just one night, and she could let loose some.
Their one night stand was spicy and you could feel the chemistry between this couple. I was there for Knox's mouth and how patient he was with Ava. She had never been able to come with a guy before. Well, she's only been with her ex, and he made it out to be that something was wrong with her because she couldn't come.
Knox accepted the challenge and decided he was going to get her off no matter what. He was so patient and listened to her tells and what she liked. Even when she stopped him part way through thinking it wasn't going to happen, he didn't stop, he doubled down and was determined. And once he learned how to get her there, he made it happen over and over that night.
When early morning came, Knox woke up to Ava sneaking out his room. He tried to stop her, but she said it was 1 night and if it was meant to be, she'd see him again. Then the book ended.
I can already picture what's going to happen. This is my guess, Knox was drafted to San Jose, CA, to their hockey team. Ava just graduated with her masters in sports medicine. I'm going to guess that she going to get a job for his team, maybe.
Oh, side note that I didn't tell you, they don't know each other's names. They stick with their nicknames for one another, Flamingo boy and Tink. They don't know anything about the other person either. Just a one night stand that blew their minds, but she snuck away. I'm really ready for their book. March needs to hurry up!

This was a super quick and super fun novella/prequel to Jennifer Bonds' newest series. Knox is the hot NHL hockey player, blowing off some steam in Cancun with his teammates. Ava is the grad school graduate spending time with her friends before the real world calls her. After Beach Olympics pit the 2 groups together - Ava and Knox make a bet for the winning/losing team. It leads to some craziness and definitely some spicy scenes. I will absolutely be reading book 1 - it's out in February. Will have to go back and read some of her other books beforehand.
This was a short, fun novella to lead you into the series coming in 2026. Knox and Ava meet at a Cancun resort during an afternoon beach game and make a bet on who will win. They have chemistry so post bet they end up together for one night. You get nothing more than that, as a lead into the series which will pick up with them living their lives, and eventually finding one another again. It was cute, just spicy enough for its length, and overall a fun read.
Cute little romcom novella! Definitely reels you into the first book of the new series by Jennifer Bonds. I look forward to finding out what the full length story will be for Knox and Ava!
