The Norns think they’ve won, but it’s hard to control a teenager, let alone a powerful one…
Raine Cooper’s life should be perfect. She’s an Immortal Seeress, most likely to be elected Prom Queen, and envied by the girls at Kayville High for dating the dreamy quarterback, Torin St. James. Instead, she’s haunted by the smug facial expressions the Norns’ wore during their last meeting.
As a Norn-In-Training, Raine crossed the line long ago when she sided with the Valkyries and Mortal Witches. When the Norns return with demands of their own, Raine feels trapped. She must repair the battle grounds and wipe out the memories of every Mortal witness. Torin tries to convince her that the Norns are manipulating her, but she refuses to listen. At least until the Norns’ demands focus on someone she loves. When Raine refuses to cooperate with them, their punishment is swift and gut-wrenching, turning her pain into fury.
Raine plots revenge on a massive scale and makes deals with unsavory allies. Her goal? Total destruction of the entire Norn race. Raine’s only hope of salvation is Torin, but how much will he sacrifice to save her?

Raine is growing and becoming more powerful, and in Witches, she takes on the Norns and comes up smiling. Does she accept her fate as a Norn? Not if Torin has anything to do with it. Or does she change the game, the rules, the terms.
Will she and Torin take their relationship to the next level? We'll see. He's been pretty awesome so far, don't you think?
I said it before and I'm saying it again, I'm having fun writing these stories and I have wonderful things planned for the series thanks to you, my fans.
I have received an ARC copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.
This book is amazing! Well, the whole series is!
In here, Raine, is still learning how powerful she is and how far she can go against Norns (good and bad) before they will go berserk. In here we can see that she can go pretty far and they seem like they are terrified of her. Especially when she bonds with one particular dagger. They have not expect that. The expected that she either won't be able to do it, or she will herself go evil from the power it has. How shocked and scared they are after she is not becoming an evil Norn. She is still fighting against becoming one. And she finally decides on whose side she will be after Ragnarok happens. And it's not Hel's, Norn's or Asgardians. Raine is setting her own goals and does not care what Norns or Gods have planned for her. It's her life and she is determined to make it her own. Among her friends and family. And most important she is determined to spend it with Torin. Her visions are getting more controlled and because of them she is taking charge of few people and their destiny. She wants them to live and have a bright future. And Norns they don't like it, but she simply doesn't care. She is prepared to fight for her "charges" and she will win.
Her first "charge" is school's famous Bad Boy, Beau. He is bad, smart, snarky and changes girls faster than anything. Raine is set to help him and save him from the biggest mistake he could do. She is so determined that she even goes to boys changing room to steal his shirt to get a premonition. *smirk*. They relationship is something that spice up a bit feelings between Torin and Raine. It shows that both of them can be also jealous.
Torin, he is one sexy Immortal! He knows what he wants and what he wants the most is Raine. Always her. No one else and nothing else. Basically, she is IT for him. And he is telling her that in every way he possibly can. Whenever he feels she is doubting them, her. His way of words is just perfect!
The other thing what I love about this part? INGRID! She is so perfect! And amazing Ednah, FINALLY, took her out from her shell and she is showing how fun and kickass she can be! Love her! And the sparks between her and one particular Grimnir? Priceless!
The book is simply amazing and gives you high hopes for next parts!
HUGE, FAT 5 stars! Well done Ednah! Keep them coming!
* I received a free ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review *
Another 5 star gem from the amazingly talented, Ednah Walters!
Ednah Walters is one of my very favourite YA authors. Her Guardian series was brilliantly written but her Runes series (in my opinion) surpasses all else. Her research into the Valkyrie mythology and her ability to translate mythology into a story is seamless.
Witches picks up right where Seeress left off and overlaps with Souls with Lorraine Cooper trying to navigate her way through this confusing yet exhilarating new life that she's found herself a part of. Last fall Raine was just an average high school student. Now, she's anything BUT average. She's the girlfriend of super sexy Valkyrie, Torin St. James, best friend to soul guide Cora Jemison, acquaintance to Echo, the best Grimnir on Hel's roster, and she's also a powerful seeress destined to forsee the beginning of Ragnarok, the end of the world war between the gods and the evil giants.
You would think that life would be a breeze with all of that might, magic, and muscle in her corner but sadly it is not to be. Her love with Torin is again put to the test by a series of events unfolding her destiny and the Norns are again interfering in her life with devastating results to those that she loves. She has to make choices which will affect everything and everyone she loves and will change her life forever.
Witches is a fantastic book that only gets better the further you get into it. I love the camaraderie, the family and friendship dynamics that are so prominent in this book. There is plenty of action and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat but even in the midst of fight scenes and the race against the clock, the love and friendship and family elements are so strong. It's also nice to have a leading (YA) female character that depicts a strong independent female capable of standing and fighting for what she believes in. Raine is loyal and kind, brave, independent, strong and always there to help a friend and her relationship does not include sex or the pressure to have sex which I found refreshing. That doesn't mean there is no romance. There are plenty of steamy scenes to be had in Witches which are beautifully and sensitively incorporated into the story. It truly includes something for everyone.
Witches is a great addition to an equally great series and Ednah Walters just keeps upping the ante with her amazing ability to bring to life her characters. I can't wait for the next instalment to see what comes next! A highly recommended next instalment however her entire Runes series is a must read!
Witches finds Torin and Andris on assignment in California, and while the boys are away the girls will play! By now we've all learned that if Raine is left to her own devices for too long she's bound to find trouble! Her first trouble comes when her visions become more frequent. She's very careful not to brush up against anyone at school or in public. Unfortunately she accidentally bumps into the school's bad boy Beau, and sees his abusive home life that ends in a tragic way. Lucky for him she's decided not to allow that to happen. Beau has just unwittingly become the 1st person under Raine's care. She's determined to change his future, and make his life a happy one. She enlists the help of the only other person with as much free time as herself....Ingrid. In this book you see a whole new side to Ingrid! Wild, funny, and caring she's the perfect person to help Raine. When Raine comes home from helping Beau, and finds the goddess Freya in her bedroom, she knows her life just got a little bit more complicated. When the goddess Freya gives you the gift of a snarky cat, what can you do but accept? Neither Raine nor her new familiar are exacty thrilled about their new relationship, but they struggle through making the best of it. As if they didn't have enough to worry about, the Norns are back with a vengeance! They are more than determined to make sure Raine becomes a norn and severes her relationship with Torin. Too bad for them Torin is warned about their plans from the last person you would ever expect...his father! Torin sets a plan into motion that will trump the norns and beat them at their own game. Torin and Raine's relationship grows so much in this book. She's stronger, feistier, and more confident. She doesn't put up with Torin's crap in this book, and to his credit Torin loves this new side of her. He makes it his goal to make her feel loved. Their love is so strong in this book. Witches was all that we have come to expect from Ednah. It had me laughing with tears one minute, and crying with tears in the next. This book was beautifully written, and like all great books leaves you disjointed from the world. You know when you finish, and don't understand why the rest of the world is going on as normal? Then you realize it's because they didn't just suffer emotional turmoil in the form of a paperback like you did. This book will leave you bouncing with anticipation for the next installment. What more can I say? Buy this book!
We’re back with Raine and Torin. By now Raine is getting comfortable with her witch powers as well as her Nornish powers. The Norns are still determined to get her on their side at all costs. The Gods want her on their side, the Giants on theirs. And Raine, she just wants Torin, and to help people. I won’t talk much about the actual book because it really does give a BUNCH away. We meet a few new characters, some awesome like Onyx, Beau, and Freya. We also meet some not so cool characters like evil Norns, dark souls, and Joe Hardshaw. We get to see the whole gang this time, Andris, Ingrid, Echo, Cora, Svana, Tristan, Femi, Hawk, just to name a few. I will put it out front, that some parts of this book seem confusing. READ SOULS FIRST. Do NOT skip to this book. I know people will want to read Raine and Torin’s story straight through, and though you could, things could get a little confusing. This book starts one week before Souls and ends one week after. So Souls is contained in this book. And I understand why. It’s like life, when we start to grow up, our lives start on different paths and we’re not always privy to everything going on in our friend’s lives. And so Souls tells the story of Cora’s life while Witches tells the story of Raine’s. I will say that out of all the books in this is my favorite. There are OBVIOUS reasons which I will not go into here. But trust me, you’ll find this as a favorite...(https://textuallove.wordpress.com/201...) Read the rest of the review behind the link.

Wow what an exciting book. Ednah Walters really use her gift to provide a strong heroin, battle of Good vs Evil and an intricate love story. This book goes beyond your normal PA book. Witches overlaps Souls and is taken from Raine's POV. I loved how while reading I could piece together what Cora was doing while things were happening in Raine's life.
Raine is on a mission as usual to defeat the Norns and follow her own destiny. Her determination and love for her fellow Mortals and Immortals gives her the drive to fight. Not only does Raine learn more about herself and her growing powers, she decides how and when to use them.
During this story we see her develop relationships with Beau a baseball player at school. He becomes her first case to shift his destiny for the better. Along with her new sidekick Onyx (who is hysterically funny) her Muse/Familiar captivates our hearts. Torin and Raine's relationship continues to grow as we see how deep their love is and how in its pure state can overcome EVERYTHING even the Norns!
This book covers it all and you will find yourself yielding to every emotion but feeling warm and fuzzy at the end.
I hate that I can only give this book 5 stars it seems like it should have at least 10. I'm not even sure where to begin. This book exceeded my expectations completely. Ednah Walters is a talented author, whose every book I have read captured a beautiful story. I loved the length of the book, I was able to get lost in the pages and melt into the story. She made sure to write beautifully detailed descriptions so that you could read it and picture it in your mind. We were able to fall in love with the all of the characters throughout the whole Runes series. Witches added so much to the Raine and Torin story. I loved the witty banter between the characters, and would love to put some of my favorite quotes, but I won't spoil the book for those who haven't read it yet. Ingrid really came out of her shell and I ended up enjoying her in this book. Witches is probably going to be my favorite story to this series but we will see since every book that has came next has been even better than the last.
I was privileged to receive an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review...
I hate the Norns and I LOVE Ednah Walters...
First and foremost I have to say what a story, book after book I find myself amazed at the way the story unfolds and how it captures us and takes us right along for the ride. This book as well as the other is beautifully written, expressing the fears, anxiety and battles of life through the eyes of a teenager in love, the kick? She's powerful!!
The thing that I love the most about the Runes Series and this book is that it succeeds once more in carrying the story so well of Self discord and Empowerment , I love how it shows us over and over the human strength within us, how our courage takes over pushing fear and everything else aside the moment our lives are threatened, when we are in danger of loosing the one thing most important to us. How love is the most powerful force in this world and how in a second we can realize how far we can truly go to protect it and the ones we love.
I have always believed that one of the things that truly makes a book great is not creating characters but writing people and Ednah's ability to write these wonderful people, their stories and how they find themselves influenced and changed by each other is truly great. Personally I think you can't go wrong with anything Ednah Walters writes.
In witches we can see their struggle, how they open up to their powers and even to the things they fear the most. We see Torin embracing Raine's powers while still struggling with her destiny and risking anything and everything to protect her, We also see a more powerful more confident Raine as she begins to truly embrace her abilities regardless of what they might remind her of, and she's even getting a kick out of them along the way. She's more decisive and fed up with being messed around with, so she's stands up for herself to anyone that might underestimate her, threaten her or dismiss her including Torin whom in his crazy protective rants tends to disregard her abilities. Something that he soon realizes he can no longer do as she shows him how truly powerful she is becoming forcing him to embrace her and support her more. We see a different Ingrid, one that has finally found a place and a voice among the Valkyries and Eirik is BACK, oh baby yes!!!! I absolutely love him although we can still see his struggle between who he is and who he is becoming... We also see Blaine in a more profound side of him allowing us to know him better and Andris, well, he's Andris but his caring and respect for Raine is truly something that makes me appreciate him even more... I also love the way the Valkyries and the Grimnirs lives intertwine and come together for one mutual goal, we see their struggle as well as heir triumph only making them that much stronger....
Raine and Torin's love is becoming powerful and oh so sexy, much more than the Norns would like or anticipate and they will do whatever it takes in their desperate fight to separate them but they have another thing coming if they think Raine will give up that easily. She loves Torin and nobody messes with her love, She will prove she's also a force to be reckoned with.
Torin and Raine will not stop at anything to protect their love and be together, but how far will they go?, buy the book and find out! You will not regret it!!!
Ps: This book's story overlaps with Souls, please make sure you read it too!, you can thank me later.
As I get deeper in the series, the more it feels like a soap opera - never quite reaching a satisfying conclusion - tune in next week. But the author on her Amazon page does indicate a conclusion will be happening.
I didn't like this story as much as the others because three items throwing me completely out of the story. The first is when Raine dumped water on her boyfriend in bed. They had been going great guns and then she does this 180 crazy turn around I would expect of a thirteen year old in the first few months of the relationship, not a seventeen year old into a year-long love-of-my-life relationship.
To the editor in me, it felt like a writer's darling. The scene is cool, but totally unnecessary and should have been cut from the manuscript by the content editor. As a writer, you come with some cool stuff you want to share with your readers - but if it doesn't fit the story, it really needs to go.
The second item is Raine and Cora are besties, yet, in this story over and over again Raine ignores what is happening in Cora's life, even when they are together and talking, Raine spaces out. I understand it is so that Souls and Witches don't overlap too much in scenes, but it makes me doubt the friendship. The mechanism for the parallel story of the two series needs to be oiled a bit more.
The other item is too much of a spoiler to say here. It fit the story, but in this case it left me as a reader dissatisfied. But it did fit the story. Since part of the rating is on pure likability, this particular item knocked things down a rating level.
Overall a good series and a good book within the series. Would like a little less of the children (and century-old adults) flying off the handle and letting their anger be the correct answer, but that is part of the genre. I am sticking around to see who gets Eirik; he deserves a good love after all he has been through and the author is promising his story in the upcoming Demons.
One thing i've come to realize over the past few weeks, well months, but has been fortified over the past few weeks....is that the most important book in a series...is the final book. Its where everything is supposed to be wrapped up, its supposed to be the most emotionally charged, and either the happiest, saddest, or both, its supposed to be when everything finally clicks and comes together.
I liked this book.....but it was slow in the beginning, and it was different than the others. I don't really know what to say about it. I feel like there needs to be another book, I hope there is another book....They mentioned this huge event that was supposed to take place....it never did....I felt it was less action packed than the previous books....I felt like the ending was really rushed...It was so slow paced at the beginning that I was sure there was going to be another book because it was taking too long to get through things, but I made it to the end, and there was an epilogue [which I didn't care for....] and there was just a short mentioning of another possible book, starring a character that wasn't really present after the first book....
it was a great series overall, but I am kind of disheartened by how it ended, and I really do hope there is more books in this series.
GoodReads asks what I think about Witches...two words: HEL'S MIST! This is without a doubt the best book in the series so far, which is saying a lot given that Souls and Seeress were so awesome. Ednah's world of Valkyries, Immortals, Norns and Gods have me spinning in pure delight. It's rare to become so invested in a series and it's characters that you feel a part of their story, and it is truly a gift to have your wishes fulfilled and persistence rewarded in the way you are with Witches. To avoid spoilers, I'm remaining vague, so you'll have to read more to find out just exactly what that might mean. In one instance I'm laughing out loud and two pages later I'm blubbering like a newborn babe. The emotional turmoil of Raine and Torin's story doesn't disappoint, and you will be chanting "Eff the Norns!" along with the rest of us. Pick up a copy today through your favorite etailer, or add to the top of your wishlist while you catch up on earlier Runes series titles. 5 stars because that's the highest rating available!
***received arc for review, but I would have given one regardless LOL***
Is there anyone who doesn't adore Ednah's books??? This installment to the series is my new book crush! It was amazing! I didn't think she could top the others in the series, but the author continues to write nothing short of excellence.
Raine and Torin are so cute in this book! I have loved them since the beginning and really liked how they developed in Witches. Torin St. James is once again my new book crush.
The supporting characters are enjoyable. I liked getting to know Ingrid a little more and liked seeing the softer side of Andris. Echo and Cora weren't as present in this installment and I was a little upset with Cora not being included in a certain plot twist.
Even that wasn't enough to put a dent in how awesome this book was. I loved every minute of it and can't wait for more. I'm glad to hear there will be more, right Ednah?? *wink, wink*
Overall, this is a series that no one should miss. It has fabulous Norse mythology weaved into the author's unique take on things. This book deserves nothing less than ten stars.
I will never get tired of saying how awesome this series is. Each book written by Ednah sets the bar higher for the next book and Witches is everything I expected and more.
Witches tells events that happen simultaneously with the ones in Souls (Cora's book) and I think this was a smart move from the author. Runes universe has gotten so big and complex that is understandable that so much action was occurring while we were reading about Cora's adventures.
This time we don't have a growing pace and the action doesn't come only at the end. From page one there is action and it doesn't stop until the last word. Each chapter brings a new revelation, a new complication and poor Rain doesn't have a second to breathe. I love the intensity, the sense of danger always present, the adrenaline pumping constantly. It was almost impossible to put the book down.
Now, let's talk about the characters. Rain has grown so much since the first book not only emotionally but now her powers reach a whole new level and there's no doubt of how important she is. Each god, Norn, witch and others have their eyes set on Rain and this adds only more intrigue to the story. She has not only embraced her powers they are now an essential part of who she is.
Torin has learned to control his possessiveness towards Rain. He still is a bit bossy but we love that about him. It's incredible how perfect he is (I'm sure there are a lot of girls and women who dream with a sexy, protective, romantic and amazing man like him).
A character that takes a bigger role is Ingrid, another excellent choice by the author. I can't wait to know more about her.
I absolutely love Rain and Torin's relationship and this new stage they are at is breathtaking. Everything they went through has brought them closer and closer, and their bond is almost unbreakable. They know each detail about the other and is obvious that they are one soul in two bodies. They are meant to be together forever (and I hope they do eventually). I loved the sexual tension present in this installment; it was time that their relationship got hotter because they really love each other.
Overall, Witches proves once more that Ednah has an exceptional writing style and the imagination to write a dozen more books for this series.

Gods, Norns, Charges, Familiars & A Love to wish for..
I was so fortunate to have received an ARC Copy of this great read!. One amongst the many in this series. I'm a strong believer in not giving away in spoilers because I feel its better to come across the magic while reading it. So I only give you my little or big summary of the book and hope that its enough to make you all read, enjoy & love.
I've read all the books in this series so far and my GOSH! It just keeps getting better. Raine is such a unique character, the things she does in this instalment make you want to read it over and over again. How she adapts to everything thrown at her by the ungodly gives her so much heart. But what she has with Torin is a relationship that is so swoon worthy and freaking amazing!. The relationships she makes with the new characters in this book are AWESOME!.. they are funny, loving, protecting and more. I like how its sort of caught up with the Souls book and added extras.
Now Torin, wow he is definitely my book boyfriend swoon worthy lol.. The way he is with Raine is beyond any other Book boyfriend I've read about, their relationship in this makes you feel like you are apart of it. Its almost such a real feeling that all you want is to be her, I love a book you can connect with and that makes you feel like you are amongst it and right in their with them, I know I've said that about all these books but the fact is, it's true! Ednah has done an amazing job with her stories that her readers can fully engage in her books, relate with the characters and even make them feel that they are them when reading. I know first hand thats how it makes me feel and thats a lot coming from me because that is something that is hard to do for me.
Now here comes my "problem" THERE IS NONE LOL it's a great read, it got me reeling and instantly wanting more!. I just wish the book didn't end lol I know there will be more but I just wanted to keep reading lol.. All in all, this book is a definite A+++++ for me, one I've recommended to others as well as the whole series thus far.
I am very lucky to have gotten a copy of this book!. I loved it and stand by my review. Definitely recommend this book to all. Get this you wont regret it.
This much-anticipated continuation of The Runes Series does not disappoint. Ednah Walters does a masterful job from start to finish. I dove right in and proceeded to read it straight through without stopping (bathroom breaks not included). I can say for certain that WITCHES is a must read, as is the entire series. Entertaining and exciting, this story is everything I hoped for and more.
This is about Raine's abilities and her determination to take control of her own destiny, to stand her ground against her Norns as well as the evil Norns. Both terrifying and affirming, she goes all in to protect Beau and the people she loves. There is one thing that bothers me about Raine's behavior. Does the dagger really make her power-hungry? She walks a fine line between good/bad witch at times. I am unsure whether this is foreshadowing events from a future book or simply part of her learning experience.
This is also a story of Raine and Torin's love and their journey to bind their souls forever. Circumstances lead to a race down the aisle to thwart the Norns' plans for Raine; but more importantly, to grant Tristan's last wish. While the ceremony may not have been everything Raine dreamt of, it was sweet and intimate. It bothers me that Cora wasn't involved. I don't understand why she wasn't whisked away in the same way as Raine.
Finally, I am so impressed with the way Walters overlaps this story with the events in SOULS. The brilliant way she weaves the two together not only provides a different point of view where the two meet, Walters also protects the integrity of each story in its own right. The skill and effort she demonstrates becomes even more impressive on the second read through.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Ednah Walters is such a brilliant writer. She has created a phenomenal paranormal series that has so much love, drama and action in it. She makes her characters lovable and even makes the evil ones likable. Her writing is flawless and I'm such a huge fan.
Raine is still my favorite from this series. She will always be that fierce, sassy and bold female heroine for me. She did get extremely bold and stood up to everyone in this book. She could have become evil, but she learned to control her powers and stick to what she knows which is helping mortals and immortals. Raine was a force -- especially when she stepped to the good and evil Norns.
Torin is still my favorite male character from this series. Torin was much more loving, vulnerable and open in this series. Torin is always protective of Raine and his friends. He is very reliable. I enjoyed that he didn't lose too much control like he normally would when he gets upset. I just love Torin!!!!
I am happy to see that Erik, Echo and Cora made appearances within this book. I mean it was seriously just a perfect ending. What blew my mind was that Maliina was still freaking alive..why didn't she just dieeeee lol. I hated what happened to Mr. Cooper, I cried a bit, but I'm happy things worked out. The Norns were the worse. I mean they literally stopped at nothing to get Raine to bind to them. They were annoying, childish and just horrible.
I am so sad that this series has come to an end. I have fallen in love with the world and the characters so much. I have a serious love for this series and all the characters. I'm excited to read Demons soon.
**Received an ARC copy from the Author in exchange for an honest review**
Yes. Yes. YES!!! I just LOVE this series!! I think this has to be my fave one so far in this series. Ednah Walters has blown me away yet again. With each new installment it just keeps getting better and better.
It felt so good to be back in this world, I feel like starting from the beginning just so I can go through it all again. Witches will take you on a wild ride, surprises around every turn, we meet new and exciting characters, we laugh, we cry, we fall in love and we may even get a little angry at times. Definitely a story that will play with your emotions.
From the first page I was absorbed, I would leave my lounge room and join the Valkyrie/Grimnir fun.
I seriously love watching these characters grow. Raine has grown into a strong, confidant young woman (witch), and she seriously can whoop some butt!! I love how we follow her through her learning of magic and watch her unleash her power, and stick it up the Norns!!
Torin. Torin. Torin. He seriously made me fall hard in this book, he truly brought out the feels in me...bad! *sigh* And the banter between Torin and Raine, just loved that!!!
Another brilliant installment to a magnificent series. If you haven't read any of these books, I recommend starting now. The first book Runes is FREE right now.
I was fortunate to receive an advance reading copy of this book for an honest review.
Frankly, I always adore the writing style of this author. Reading experience is always splendid. The events in this book are concurrent with the book, Souls, and the POV is Raine's. If Souls is about Cora, Echo, and the Grimnirs fighting the dark souls, Torin, Raine, and the rest of the gang are fighting mostly the Norns in Witches. This book just solidifies the relationship of Torin and Raine. I have to admit that Torin's proposal has moved my heart; it is one of the best I have read so far. I have always wondered how Torin and Raine are always connected to one another after the book, Immortals. Well, thank goodness for Losing It--a companion short story of Witches. Now I know why. If you have come this far to follow the series, you are definitely a Valkyrie/Grimnir minion and will have a fill of joy, most especially the new addition of Onyx's character. Another good read, and I want more!
I really enjoyed this series, but it was still a bit immature. Raine & Torin finally move forward with their relationship & are supposedly not keeping secrets anymore. I lost count of how many things they kept from each other in this book. The author does an excellent job of creating characters with chemistry, but their interactions from there are just too contradictory. Raine is constantly saying how she is going to be stronger & trust in Torin, yet she consistently becomes whiny & doubtful & blames Torin. Then in turn, we hear from Torin that he will respect Raine & allow her to be her own person & make her own decisions, only to then keep her in the dark or cart her away from dangerous situations. I believe that the premise behind this series was still an entertaining one & I did enjoy the adventures that the author took us, the readers, on. Not sure if I will try reading the spinoff series, featuring Erik.
If I could just take a long vacation in Ednah's imagination I think my life would be complete! She has once again brought the world of Runes, Valkyries, Immortals & Grimnirs crashing into mine with all the adventure, magic & gorgeous characters the series is known for. I never could have imagined after reading the first book that Raine would grow & evolve into the kick-ass heroine that she is. Torin truly has met his soul's match in every way possible. Nothing in the entire universe can detour his love for her, including the schemes of the Norns. They soon find out Raine is not a weapon they can use & manipulate, but a force to be reckoned with. This book does overlap with Souls (Grimnirs #2/ Runes #5) but Ednah has done a superb job weaving the two together. Once you start this series you will be addicted like a hipster to Starbucks!
Sometimes the "love concurs all" plot can wind up feeling contrived. This is one that feels incredibly genuine. Having watched the progression of Torin and Raines' relationship through 3 previous books, this is a fantastic capstone for them. This is a story with a lot of extremes; great heartbreak and fantastic joy. Throw in a little righteous vengeance and it's a story well worth reading more than once.
OMG, love this book action, adventure, love, hart ache and even some steamy scenes. i must read, warning clear your diary as once you start there is no stopping.
This was the weakest of all the Rune's books in my opinion. When I started the first page I had to put the book down and look up what the heck was happening! Raine's dad was alive?! But he died last book! Oh just kidding here's the same story from last book just in a different POV. I know that this was Raine's side and the other was Cora's but honestly just put it in one book and put the character name at the top of the chapter so we know who's narrating.
Raine and Cora barely seemed to be friends in this book, which is really a detriment. Walters has taken these girls who used to be best friends and tied them so close with their men that there is no room for their friendship.
I am quite over the constant making out and physical affection. It seems grossly over done and put into situations where it is unnecessary. Additionally, just put the scene in the book vs making us buy another book to get all the details. For having the depth of relationship Raine and Torrin are supposed to have I thought it was ridiculous that she didn't know about his place in England. They should actually talk about their life plans/goals. Don't you think Raine should have been part of the discussion on what Torrin's next career move should have been? (ugh...I'm old and have been married far too long and see the youngness of this relationships)
Things I love: The idea of the school for young witches/immortals. Although it just opens the door for more series! (ugh! not more series!!!!!) I still love the Norse mythology theme and hope to get more closure to Ragnarok. The real gem of this book was Ingrid; she is blooming into a main character material.
The number of errors in this ebook version was embarrassing. Please edit.
This was a great conclusion to the Raine and Torin saga. They’re absolutely adoring together!
This book pleasantly surprised me! While trying to figure out the order of the books, I kept seeing Essence and telling myself crap, everyone keeps saying this fills in the night Torin and Raine have together after their wedding - the memories stolen from the Norns. This thought made me believe that I would not get to witness their wedding or their night after, but wow. Ednah gave Torraine fans what they wanted (and I’ll be reading Essence next to see the missing pieces that Raine keeps envisioning).
“Witches” is about Raine’s powers getting stronger as a witch, how badass she is against the Norns, and how strong the bond of love is between her and Torin. We meet the bad norns in this book and find out that Raine has fallen into the trap of becoming a norn-in-training, but jokes on them because she’s got Torin that overrides their tricks (be cool if next book of Raine and Torin are going up against the Valkyrie-Counsel). Plus if you think about it, Raine left Cora’s memory in tact at the end of “Souls” - which is explained in detail in this book - so she once again went against the Norns. The only thing I will say that confused me in this book was the Epilogue.
The next book in the series is technically “Goddess”, but if you see the author notes at the end, Ednah even states to go straight to Erik’s books and read “Goddess” after “Gods”. So that’s what I’m doing. Read “Witches”, going to “Essence”, then hoping over “Goddess” and reading Eirik’s trilogy.
Witches is the 6th book in the Runes Series and the 8th book in the Runes Universe by Ednah Walters. The Runes Universe includes the Erik trilogy. We have Valkyries, mortals, Norns, and more in this Norse Mythology Fantasy Romance.
The Runes series follows best friends, Raine, Cora, & Erik as they go through high school together and are on the swim team together. They have all been through a lot over the last year or so.
In this book, Raine is given an unwilling familiar, plots revenge, possibly making a deal with her unsavory allies, oh, and she is hoping to become Prom Queen. Raine also finds new aspects of her role which she loves because she truly wants to help people. Through it all, she is growing more and more powerful and struggles with accepting her fate and changing the rules by creating her own future. How much is Raine willing to sacrifice in order to get what she wants?
I was disappointed and had a hard time getting through this book. It's the same story as book 5, just by Raine's account instead of Cora's. There are a few different situations, but quite frankly I was looking forward to the story progressing and not staying in limbo. Total waste of my money. I sure hope book 7 progresses the story, otherwise there will be very disappointed readers. I'm sure others will love this book, but for the few extra situations, the Arthur could have easily thrown them in book 7.
