A new alpha has risen.

With the death of his father, it’s time for Torion to step into his rightful place, as Alpha of Grave Hills.

Young, determined to do better for his home and his people, Torion needs to focus on the work ahead of him.

This man was DOWN BAD for his woman. I loved their dynamic. Although it was marriage-of-convenience-adjacent, they tried from the start to like each other. Which gave this a fast burn feel but realistically. I loved how the FMC was very closed off but still trying. And the MMC was just a happy guy who was patient and just wanted to love the FMC. This was a very lovable, cosy, low stakes read.

REVIEW
Every time Torion had to hide a smile at Brigid’s admonishments, an angel gained their wings.

And even with his amusement at her peckish behaviors and bossiness (lovingly), he always took her seriously. He never dismissed her feelings, giving her a safe space to heal and learn to be herself again.

Torion fell for Brigid fast, and while her fall wasn’t quite as instant, it was just as intense. I loved how much they communicated and trusted one another.

This one didn’t have as much action as the previous novel, but the slice-of-life moments and internal conflicts were interesting. These characters were so lovable and easy to root for that I didn’t mind the slow pacing.

I have grown into an avid fan of this series and am greedy for more. I need Seamus’s book URGENTLY !

OW/OM DRAMA OM — Brigid is separated from a mentally taxing relationship, but he still expects her to be his partner. She isn’t in love with him anymore, but festers a grudge and pain that is worked on (and eradicated to indifference) throughout the novel

Spoilers ahead 2.5"

This made me so sad for Torion, especially after rereading book 1 😔

First Brigid's backstory, she got with her previous Alpha Malcolm at 16. She loved him but he cheated on her repeatedly. She left him once then took him back, she got pregnant but lost the baby but only she knew about this. She finally left him for good and has been living in a cottage as the local healer for five years..... very much broken hearted and not yet recovered.

Present day
Torion is the new Alpha after the death of his father and his defeat of the beta challengers.
Malcolm approaches Brigid to set up an arrangement she knows she couldn't bare to face again so she goes to the new Alpha for help.
Torion ends up claiming Brigid as his Omega and this their story begins.

******
I can't say I hated Brigid but it was a near thing, she was very much still ensnared in her past and the effect that Malcolm had on her. As a matter of fact Malcolm is mentioned so frequently one would swear he's also a MC. He's probably mentioned in every chapter and I'm not even exaggerating. It became so frustrating that Malcolm started over shadowing the relationship between the MCs and poor Torion deserved better. Brigid came across as bitter and hurt and having something to prove to her ex, even in her longing to be pregnant it was to prove to her ex that she could deliver an heir to the Alpha after she couldn't give him one. I so desperately wanted her to have the courage to try to heal and move on and embrace what was happening between her and Torion, I grew resentful and angry and felt that she didn't deserve him at the end of it all. She made herself into a bitter old shrew and I wished she'd just crawl back to her cottage and stay there. I love pregnancy in my romances but not even that could save this one for me.

Torion was a golden retriever MMC, such a sweetie he adored Brigid and just tried his best with her but he came across as a young puppy to her old harpy 😔and I honestly wanted better for him.

I'm not a fan of my mmcs being with Omegas before, ow fine but not Omegas in this case Brigid had a whole relationship with another Alpha and everything was a COMPARISON in her head! It wasn't that she was bitchy she was just so...... idk sad and broken down and ughhhhh just depressing 😞 like damn Kathryn wth this hurt me .

Had Malcolm's name not been mentioned so frequently I may have been able to enjoy this a bit more but he was wayyyyyyy too present to suit me

Nevertheless I love this author and this series and look forward to the other books I can see coming. Such an interesting twist on the Alpha/Omega/Dragon plot I love it

*** PS those epilogues so many many years into the future are why I read Romance 🥰

*******
No cheating
H wasn't a manwhore, he'd been with another omega for one night as a youth and spent time in a brothel briefly. Absolutely not a regular occurrence
Reverse age gap, I'm honestly not sure by how many years
h 😭 had been with another Alpha who cheated on her regularly, she's been by herself for 5 years
Slight OM drama from the ex

Torion and Brigid had a bit of a rough start, but absolutely came through for each other. Brigid had a lot of baggage from a terrible past partner and needed someone who saw and appreciated her for her, while also allowing her the freedom to be who she was. She had an intense internal battle with allowing Torion in. Torion was dealing with a lot of changes all at once, but handed it fairly well. He was compassionate, straight forward, and passionate. He needed the closeness and support of his relationship with Brigid and loved with his whole heart. Both this book and the Alpha of Bleake Isle dealt with the same oppressively misogynistic culture, but neither woman had exactly the same goals and desires. It was interesting to see how each couple tackled the complications that came from defying the status quo for women.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: past sexual relationships between adults and minors, past miscarriage, past infidelity, pregnancy, birth, spotting during pregnancy, misogynistic culture, minor violence, blood, mention of imprisonment of side characters, fire (no one is seriously hurt), grief for parent death

Another well-written story from Kathryn Moon and a second in her amazing Dragonkin series. I really enjoyed the sweet (by alpha standards) Torion and his loyalty to Brigid. It was great seeing her shed her insecurities and choose to trust and love Torion. The pregnancy and the discussion of choice in this male dragon-dominated world, was very well placed and executed. The story was deliciously spicy as usual.

This is a wonderful cozy, very low angst story, though the action does pick up towards the end! Look forward to the next one.

This was sweet. Low angst and a happy comfort read. Golden retrieved type MMC (which I’m usually not a fan of but it worked well in this plot). I like the first one better and I do wish more had happened. But it was still a very good read. There were so many sweet lines. I thought the time frame of Bridgit healing from her past felt realistic. And thank you Kathryn Moon for there not being a 3rd act breakup that hinged on her insecurities. I can’t wait to keep reading this series as it comes out.

4.5 rounded up for an amazing ending. Brigid’s prickliness was understandable but annoyed me a bit but truly the two MCs were overall so lovely. The first is still my fav (I love when both characters accept and verbalize their *lurve* I can’t help I’m a sap!) but this is an excellent addition!!

3,25 🌟

I’d say I’m a bit disappointed with this book. I did love it, but at some point, around the 60–70% mark, I started to feel bored and even skipped quite a bit toward the end.

It felt like it began just as addicting as the first book, and then it simply… flattened.

The end conflict followed the same pattern as in the first book, so there was nothing particularly surprising there either.

Overall an OK read.

This was fine. It just didn’t grab me the same way Bleak Isle did. I liked Torion, he’s a good egg. I liked Brigid in some ways and I understood where her character was coming from with her hesitance and, IMO, occasional callousness. Brigid is fiercely independent and determined and capable and doesn’t want to give herself up for a man after the painful events of her previous relationship. She’s built her a self a solid, if isolated, life and being sort of forced into changing that life has got to be difficult.

That being said, her demeanor still bugged me. Our guy Torion is out here doing everything he can to show Brigid love & respect & kindness & support (after giving her the assistance SHE asked for!) and she just kept hurting him. He’s just a big ol’ teddy bear girl! Let the man snuggle you up. So I had a harder time connecting to Brigid but that may be more of a me thing than a real thing.

The plot was whatever, aside from the romance. It didn’t particularly interest me, aside from the hip new progressive dragon traditions that these young’ns are bringing about. We love to see it. So anyway, not my favorite Kathryn Moon but not bad overall.

"Share this fear with me. And your joy. Don't carry this alone. Not when I'm here and all I want is to help you bear it."

I had a fun time reading The Alpha of Bleake Isle, so when I saw a second Dragonkin novel came out, I was excited to give it a go. I contemplated DNFing this one fairly early on because of the instalust and the fact that the MMC (Torion) and FMC (Brigid) were already feeling lovey and being intimate at 20% into the story. I only stayed the course because I was genuinely curious as to where the plot was going to go having these two already essentially chosen each other at less than a quarter of the way in. However, it didn’t end up being as simple as that, and I’m glad I stayed the course. The conflict and action became engaging, the internal struggles were moving, and the romance finally blossomed into what I wanted to root for. All in all, I had a good time and am keeping my eyes out for Dragonkin book three. Seamus de Roche, Alpha of the Craven Sea, could you be next?

Things I Enjoyed:
🪽 Torion - “I would meet her here where she was comfortable.” I appreciated how he supported Brigid in working through her trauma from her previous partner. He was patient and present, and it was just what was needed. His switch up at the choosing ceremony was also a fun addition.
🪽 Brigid - “Brigid doesn't have whims, she has worries.” Her journey was emotional, and I felt for her after all she’d been through. I enjoyed witnessing her regain her confidence and sense of self over time.
🪽 The Middle Through the End - The growth here, both individually and within their relationship, was done well and supported me in becoming more engrossed in the story as it progressed. I wanted depth and emotion, and this gave me that.

Things I Struggled With:
🔥 The Sequence of Events - I think I would’ve enjoyed the story more thoroughly if the rut (and full-on physical intimacy) was moved towards the second half of the book or at least to a point after they established their relationship as more and Brigid felt more comfortable at the Keep.
🔥 The Endearment “Witch” - It just wasn’t working for me.

Favorite Quotes:
🌲 “It was up to the men around the table to see reason, and in my experience that only happened if a man was already inclined to do so.”

Oh this was a sweet one! It’s been a while since I’ve read a book where the MMC had it so bad for his woman. This man was not afraid to show his complete devotion. A nice change of pace. Also, this had a total Scottish Highlander historical romance vibe to it. So, loved that!

This felt a bit like a marriage of convenience, or maybe a mating of convenience. Torion is a new Alpha that is in need of an Omega. Brigid is an Omega that just wants to live in peace after being cast aside by her Beta and she is just wanting a little help from the new Alpha to achieve that. Torion knew right away that she was the one for him. He was all in, right from the beginning, but she had been badly burned and she was bitter and scared and had built a wall around her heart. But don’t let her trust issues fool you, she was strong and take charge… in all things and that led to some super steamy scenes between these two. Torion had no problem letting her take the reins and it was so very hot.

This book made me an emotional mess though. Just from the immense love and joy you feel from Torion… it was almost overwhelming. He would give her the world but she’s afraid to reach out and take it. It was very much an emotional slow burn with amazing growth and trust that developed for Brigid. With some political omegaverse dynamics, the whole story was so good overall. Very much happy with the second installment of this series.

I’ve decided to leave it as 2.5 stars after writing this review.

Honestly I think most of the time it was a 2.5 star read and that’s mostly cause it literally had almost the same plot lines as the first book in this universe. I don’t understand why the author made theses books so similar. Like the only real difference is that the first book had pregnancy as a theme to discuss and in this one the fmc actually does get pregnant. But legit everything else is basically the same or at least felt like it (the pregnancy, the having no one to trust in the betas, the waiting for a coup to happen and blah blah blah).

The times I felt like it could’ve been a 3 was mostly cause I ended up enjoying the couple later in in the book. The beginning was so annoying with the fmc not being truthful with her emotions (understandable cause of her situation but no less annoying). The couple from the first book was better (at least from what I remember).

And finally I kind of find it super annoying that in both books the epilogue consists of the couples having like 5 kids and going away to retire or something like that. Like why? Is there nothing else that could’ve happened?

I’m kind of hoping that the next book is the one with the pirate alpha so I know that at least plot wise it’ll feel different.

🌶 2/5
🧠 2/10
Cliffhanger: 0/10
Noteworthy: Book 2 of an incomplete series of interconnected standalones. Dual first-person POV. Available on KU. The only major trigger is the discussion of mortality during child birth.

All hale Kathryn Moon for writing a relationship focused story where there is no 3rd act breakup and the FMCs fears are not exploited for miscommunication drama. Bravo! This 2nd book continues to focus on changing society in favor of safety and equality for woman. This MMC is a perfect golden retriever! I am beyond excited for book 3 which appears to be about our resident bad boy.

"I didn't know then, Torion..How much I really wanted what I asked of you."

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is the kind of sweet romance I suffer through others for. I should have known my next 5 star would be a Kathryn Moon book since she's never let me down before. I was swooning at times, and the epilogue was everything I want from an epilogue.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, but I loved this one. And it isn't perfect. The FMC pissed me off early on, and these two had some miscommunications and stubborn moments that had me rolling my eyes.

But the GROWTH. The COMMITMENT. The eventual TRUST and PEACE in their relationship.  Gahhh this is what I read for.

I also love how this book pushed thier entire society so far past what they had previously known. We got a taste of this in the last book but this one opened opened allll the doors. Let the progressive era begin. 🤪

Edit: Light OM drama with her ex but she's never interested. Reverse age gap; older FMC (in her 30s). Sweetest, devoted MMC. Pregnancy trope. No third act breakup.

"I hadn't realized how attached I'd grown to my place in the woods by the river, hadn't braced myself for how shocking it was to step back in the shape of being a man's woman, and this time on an even grander scale."

"Sooner or later, you'll do more than accept me taking care of you. You'll expect it,"

"Damn him, that was what I was afraid of. The day when I woke up and didn't wonder when he would turn away from me. The day when I trusted him completely. The day when I found myself happy and content and unafraid. The day when I woke up from the fantasy he invited me to believe in and remembered that he was just an imperfect man and I was just an imperfect woman whose heart loved too easily."

I'm not the reader I used to be. I guess it's normal to evolve, but it made me sad to think that what I once would have absolutely adored made me feel rather meh. I don't really feel like examining it any deeper.

This is a fun story, especially if you like romantasy with dragon shifters and a sort of Alpha/Beta/Omega society that isn't omegaverse. It features a woman cast aside from a previous marriage and the new Alpha of this community. Their arrangement is steamy, though filled with miscommunication and tiptoeing around issues. It was nice witnessing a man worshipping his woman, though.

thank you to kathryn for sending me an arc!!

i think this story was good—i just wasn't the right reader for it! insta-love is rarely a hit for me, and this story really leaned into the FMC's internal conflict rather than a lot of external conflict. as a reader i've found i prefer more external conflict and high stakes, and this was more cozy and domestic (and spicy!!). if that's your vibe, you will eat this up!!

Very happy to be back in dragonkin society. I love how Kathryn Moon can write a pitch perfect historical romance with dragon shifters and knotting….though there is something about regency society that melds so well with omegaverse, with its designations and status politics.

Even though it’s dual POV, this is mostly Brigid’s story. Given to a beta dragon as a girl, she had her heart crushed by him - he was emotionally abusive and cheated constantly. When we meet her she’s 32 and carved out an independent life for herself as a healer. Extremely proud, smart and competent she’s very much not in the market for a new partner when Torion claims her in order to help her. While she knows she needs the alpha’s help, she is determined to keep the upper hand in their arrangement and will not let her heart be broken again. It takes her almost the entire book to finally let go of the last of her fears and fully fall for Torion (or fly, as the case might be). When she finally claims her power it’s joyful and fierce.

Torion is pretty much the perfect man. The way he was so enraptured by and protective of Brigid right away, but gave her space to figure out her own heart. He’s playful but devoted. Spontaneous yet hard-working. I loved when his scheming mind worked to show Brigid she can trust him, as well as all the times he cataloged details about her needs to better take care of her. He’s also putty in her hands immediately.

These books are extremely spicy but I kind of don’t notice? It’s so a part of their nature as alpha and omega dragons, and in the regency prose it feels poetic. It’s also never drawn out or embellished without emotional reason.

As with the first book, there is a motif of dismantling the patriarchy, doing away with misogynistic traditions, old men (dragons) being mad about change, etc. etc. which never gets old.

And again, very little conflict between the main couple. The drama is largely happening around them while they learn to love each other, but does come to an action-packed head at the end!

This is an exciting omega dragon shifter romance. It is the second book in the Dragonkin series and could be read out of order as an interconnected standalone, though it would be best enjoyed after book one for better plot and character development.

Omega FMC Brigid has been hiding out in her cabin, working as a healer after being cheated on and rejected by her beta (essentially her matched husband). When he begins to threaten her, she turns to the new alpha, dragon shifter MMC Torion, for help. She doesn’t expect him to publicly claim her, or to offer her the coveted position at his side.

I enjoyed this book, though not quite as much as the first. The worldbuilding is fantastic, and the political intrigue is captivating, but unfortunately the FMC got on my nerves a bit. I liked Brigid and found her to be a strong, capable character, but she was very hung up on her ex, and that ongoing tension grew old. The MMC was such a sweetheart and incredibly patient, I wanted to shake her and tell her to stop thinking and talking about the ex. This book was originally part of a serial, and I wonder if that contributed to the pacing of that aspect of the story, because otherwise I really enjoyed it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and the series and can’t wait for the next installment.

This book further solidifies that Kathryn Moon is one of my favorite authors. Not sure how she managed bring together paranormal dragon shifter, omegaverse, and historical romance so seamlessly but it's everything I never knew I needed.

My favorite part of this book are the FMC and MMC. They give golden retriever/black cat, which is my favorite dynamic. I love a man who loves a strong woman! I also love how Kathryn Moon writes spice and uses it to give us better insight into their relationship - it never feels like filler.

It was fun to see characters again from the first book, while still having a new storyline and overall different feeling. I would definitely recommend reading book one in the series first.

If you're debating reading this series, give it a try - you will not be disappointed!

A huge thank you to the author for an advance copy of the book!

2.5 stars.

i adored the first book, and have read it several times, so i was really looking forward to this one.

but the heroine, the hero, and their dynamic weren't to my taste.
the heroine was bossy and led the relationship. the hero never pushed her much, just let her take the reins. he was a very easygoing hero. i like intense and obsessed heroes, so this didn't really do anything for me 😅
i enjoy this author's writing though, so i look forward to the next one!

Kathryn. You write my favorite heroines and heroes in every universe. I don’t know how you do it. I truly thought I knew from the beginning how the story would pan out. I was dead wrong. How delicious it was to be fooled! This is the making of a writer who has perfected her craft. The romance is gorgeous but even the plot is delicious and well done!

Really 4.5! I’ve been looking forward to Moon’s next Dragonkin romance! I especially appreciated that Brigid is an older omega who’s left abusive servitude and found a role that wasn’t focused on her biology.

He’s younger, and adores how strong and practical she is.

Affectionate Alpha (he falls hard)
Unappreciated Omega
Excellent dragon lore and world-building
