Set in 23BBY

Anakin and Obi-Wan must protect the Senate. Under Palpatine's supervision, they work to prevent a potential attack that could plunge the galaxy into chaos and war and why the fuck am I reading these?

The story falls short, lacking excitement and depth. It's like every single Jedi Quest tries to copy a solid work of other Star Wars series and make it interesting by failing because its simplicity is infuriating.

Actual rating is 3.5 stars.

This is part of a series and I suggest reading the ones before this book. In this one, Anakin and Obi-Wan have returned home to Coruscant and they are no closer to their quarry. They soon come upon a plot that their opponents are planning to sabotage the water supply on their planet.

This is definitely the best one of the series and fits in nicely with the whole universe. While reading this I had a sense of the chase not only in this particular book but the whole culmination of the series. One can feel the nearness of the finale as we approach it. What sold me on this particular book was the characters. I loved the look at Palpatine and his plans that no one is seeing. Also loved the look into him mentoring Anakin even though him and Obi-Wan are closer than ever. Even though they are close right now you can feel that it is not going to stay that way. Even the minor characters shined as we bring back some characters from the beginning of this series.

This book and series is meant for younger children and this one shines. I actually wished that this story could have been a full length novel. That is how much I appreciated this story as I wanted more of it. This was the best one so far and if this is any indication of how this series is going to end I look forward to it.

Now HERE are the prequels we know and love.

The TENSION! The DRAMA! The horrible feeling of knowing you're riding a runaway train about to crash headlong into a sheer rock face, and there's nothing you can do about it! The INTRIGUE! The iconic hopeless, sinking feelings of despair!

This book has everything!
• Palpatine orchestrating thirty million plots within plots to the extent that he's behind an attempt on his own life YET AGAIN.

• The Jedi are kept running and running and running from one crisis to the next with zero time to stop and think about what's happening.

• Palpatine ruling against the Jedi again and again yet, somehow, convincing them and everybody else that he's the ONLY one who's truly on their side.

• Anakin watching Palpatine and going, "Now there's a guy who GETS it."

• Unjust Senate shenanigans that make you want to burn the entire Republic down.

• Palpatine DIRECTLY telling the Jedi that their problem is that they focus only on directly stopping violence with force of arms, and ignore what's happening in the Senate when that's where the real galactic battles will take place. He genuinely told them this, essentially spelling out his own plan! His mind.

• Someone discovering Palpatine's plan, contacting Obi-Wan about it, but being unable to talk through comm interference. When he runs up to Obi-Wan, about to blurt out the truth -- BAM -- shot dead at the last second. We just can't have nice things, I guess.

• The Jedi just. Not getting it.

• Me, screaming and pounding on the glass: YOU'RE THINKING TOO SMALL. OPEN YOUR MINDS. HE'S RIHGHTKMFPHGPJTH THERE.

Also, I have to say... I didn't mention "Bail Organa being the one true hope of the Republic" because it deserves more than a single bullet point. The iconic line this is the end of the age of heroes, and it has saved its best for last? Bail Organa is absolutely one of those heroes. He is possibly THE hero.

Honestly, the Jedi come off as totally missing the point. Out here, flailing lightsabers around, not knowing where the true evils lie. But Bail knows. He knows. Even when Padme was totally distracted and taken in, Bail was not. If Bail Organa had not existed, I'm like... eighty-nine percent sure that Palpatine would have taken over the galaxy decades earlier and the Rebellion would not have happened.

No wonder he tried so hard to get him killed on Zigoola. What I just don't get is why Palpatine didn't try much much harder. He clearly underestimated Bail.

ALSO: honorable mention to my friend and best boy Ferus Olin. VERY glad to get to see someone besides Anakin demonstrate amazing displays of the Force.

Pretty good. Warning signs for Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith all over the place, but maybe that's just because I've seen them so many times.

They're still trying to capture Granta Omega. Man, is that guy good at getting away! And he is his father's son. There's a lot more focus on the political side of things in this book, which I really liked. That'll come as no surprise to my friends. Things are getting so corrupt. And Palpatine is taking steps to get to Anakin and fan the sparks of the Dark Side into flame. Unfortunately, Obi-Wan is too focused on Granta Omega to notice that there's something fishy about Palpatine's involvement. Though truly, all of the Jedi are blind to him. I always knew Palpatine was evil, but I watched the originals first.

Not sure about Obi-Wan's advice to Astri to leave Bog. Sure, he's a corrupt politician, and she's scared of the things he'll do as a senator, but I don't think he was actually abusing her or their son, so I don't know. She just never should have married him. But then Lune wouldn't exist.

It did bug me where Darra's last name was printed incorrectly. Hopefully that was just my edition.

A threat to ban the Jedi Council leads to ill feeling in the Galactic Senate. When Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker discover an old enemy is plotting to assassinate Chancellor Palpatine, duty and honour make it easy to break the rules and protect the Senate.

Throughout 'Jedi Quest', we see the way that Anakin's abilities and his essential goodness will lead to his downfall. Chapter book by chapter book, we are reading the development of Darth Vader.

kind of boring and very minimal character development and imo relies too heavily on the angst and foreshadowing. sheev is nasty as usual. more depression for obi wan. anakins character felt like it went backwards from the previous book. the plotline with the zone and jenna felt like it was dropped pretty suddenly. surprise appearance by love of my life bail organa was a high point.

insert the “apollo throwing the gift of prophecy” meme but it’s star wars throwing the knowledge of the truth at sub-characters who will tragically die moments before they could’ve saved the galaxy

Star Wars Legends Project #95

Background: The False Peace was written by Jude Watson and published in July 2004. It is the ninth book of the Jedi Quest series, following The Changing of the Guard (my review).

The False Peace is set just after The Moment of Truth, 24 years before the Battle of Yavin. Obi-Wan and Anakin are the main characters, along with Siri and Ferus Olin, and returning villains Jenna Zan Arbor and Granta Omega. There are also appearances by a variety of returning characters, including Didi and Astri Oddo, various Jedi (Mace Windu, Yoda, etc.), and Chancellor Palpatine. The story takes place almost entirely on Coruscant.

Summary: Jenna Zan Arbor and Granta Omega, two of the Jedi's (and the Republic's) greatest enemies, have teamed up for something big. Obi-Wan and his team, newly returned from their failure to capture Zan Arbor on Romin, are desperate to find out what it is. But their role in the revolution on Romin is the subject of a Senate inquiry led by Obi-Wan's old nemesis (and friend to Omega) Sano Sauro.

Review: Accountability is such a distraction, isn't it? I don't know whether this was intentional or not, but surely Obi-Wan's impatience with the Senate being concerned that he and Anakin unilaterally decided to overthrow an ostensibly legitimate government is something Anakin took to heart. The lesson of this book is that democracy stands in the way of men of wisdom and action taking care of things that need to be taken care of, and we all know how well Anakin learned that lesson.

But all of that, whether intentional or not, is definitely subtext. The set-up of the last few books finally starts to pay off here with an exciting dose of action and suspense as the Jedi piece together the threat and then race to meet it. There are some fun twists along the way and Watson really does a good job drawing on a cast of already established characters, both heroes and villains, from previous books to weave her plot together in a big way. Stories that revolve this much around the Galactic Senate aren't always very compelling, but this one certainly.

The thing that stands out most, though, going forward, is the expert way Watson is working in Palpatine's growing relationship with Anakin. I love the way she has started hinting at the menace that the Jedi are still blind to, and she really nails Palpatine's subtle manipulations that seem like anything but nefarious if you don't know what to look for. With everything going on in the series at this point, it almost seems to soon for this to be the next to last book, and I'm excited for the grand finale but wondering what threads will be left dangling.

I was fighting demons to stay engaged. I’m sorry but this was so boring. & it makes me sad. These books, as they get further into the series, are just blatant stories; I’m also in the wrong for this because it’s a series meant for a younger audience, but it’s just solid storytelling. Not too much character development. Sometimes good worldbuilding, but it could be better.

silly quotes bc it’s fun on kindle:

“Yes, but not the most dangerous enemy,” Palpatine said. “From my experience, the most dangerous enemy is the one you can’t see.”

Bro is just bragging about himself. Can’t even hate on him. He was good at bein evil.

Obi-Wan bent over him. He opened his own hand. He closed it. He placed it against Tyro’s chest and bowed his head over his beloved friend. He murmured the words every Svivreni told a loved one before a journey.

“The journey begins,” Obi-Wan whispered. “So go.”

My guy cannot catch a break. Everyone gets STOLEN FROM HIM. Ugh whatever.

Anyways that’s all I really have for this book. It just exists. Praying the 10th and final book is redeeming.
Distraction. The word clanged like a bell inside his mind, but Obi-swan didn’t know why. Another word had hit him earlier, just a tiny ping, what was it…

Demoralized. Saudi had said that the Jedi were demoralized.

Disruption + Demoralization + Distraction = Devastation.

The stories are getting a little dry, although there are still quite some interesting things. Like having the planet Falleen in the spotlight at the start of the book. There's also more proof about how awesome Bail Organa is.

Mace has a feeling that the Jedi's resistance to being around the Senate is proof they're needed there. And he's right - JZA, Granta Omega, Sano Sauro and a few others are ready to wreak havoc on the Senate through Palpatine, regular politics, and shaking emotions of the Coruscant citizens.
But I think Mace is onto something else entirely - to fix the problems existing in a system, you have to work on the core issues, such as those arising from the Senate.

What else is interesting is that Palpatine is staying on past his term because the people want him there. There's a huge red flag for a tyrant.

I really liked this one!

The False Peace is mostly set on Coruscant and in this story we get to follow Anakin, Obi-Wan, Siri and Ferus as they try to figure out who has been bad-mouthing the Jedi in the senate to the point where people are serously starting to doubt their loyalties, while also trying to stop some devastating shit from happening to a bunch of senators and chancellor Palpatine.

The mystery was great and involved Granta Omega and Jenna Zan Arbor who are pretty nice villains, and there was also a lot of important moment's for Anakin's character growth - he got to hang out with Palpatine and you could see him starting to idolize the old chancellor and the way he acts and does things. This of course is significant because of what happens between them later on in the films. I also appreciated how clear this book made that the senate is not working properly anymore, that there are more and more corrupt senators only after their own good, not giving a shit about the people they should be representing and working for. People are starting to see that and worry for the future of the galaxy.

There were twists I didn't see coming - which is not always the case with young reader books like these - and there were some great emotional moments, especially for Obi-Wan. It was also hilarious to see him have to deal with politics and politicians. Siri was a delight, as always, as was Ferus, who I like much more than I did the first time I read these books years ago.

Can't wait to read the final book!

The Jedi thwart an attack on the Gallactic Senate. Obi-Wan and Anakin do their part, but Anakin feels things should've happened differently (partly being manipulated by someone, to assert himself and seek his way. On the other hand, he had some good points, and it feels like he's being unfairly judged at a different standard than the OTHER padawans.

He pushes back and does what he feels is right, and it works out, but then gets dinged for not "blindly" obeying his master.

Yeah, I'd be frustrated too.

I love the tension that is occurring, but I feel that the Jedi bear some responisibility for this situation. They are NOT perfect.

The bond between Obi-Wan and Anakin is strained a bit, for he sees the Jedi POV, instead of backing his padawan.

Ugh.

The Political Plot Thickens

The plot thickens in this edition of Jedi Quest. The two teams of Anakin and Obi-Wan, Siri and Ferus are called back to Coruscant to aid the Senate. Political intrigue ensues as Granta Omega and Jana Zan Arbor continue their plan to destroy the Jedi.

Note: Spoilers are contained below.

What makes this chapter interesting are a number of factors coming into play. Obi -Wan's friend Tyro discovers who is really behind some major political events. Anakin begins spending time with the Chancellor and finds his wisdom makes more sense to him than his master's. Ferus keeps getting commendations where Anakin does not. Granta Omega attempts to kill the Chancellor, not realizing that Palpatine is far smarter and more dangerous than he knows. Things are heading for an explosive conclusion. Another excellent chapter in the Jedi Quest series.

All that set up in the previous 8 books is finally coming to completion.

With only one book left in the Jedi Quest line, it’s easy to see just where Watson is taking this series and how it’s all leading up to what is eventually Attack of the Clones and the subsequent “Clone Wars” era. There’s also some massive foreshadowing for both the “Rebellion Era” storylines and Watson’s own The Last of the Jedi series.

Overall, The False Peace is probably the most tense, action packed, and enjoyable novel in the series so far as it begins to set up what is bound to be an explosive conclusion.

It was good and this one you can really see the threads of the series and the threads of the movies starting to come together.

I will say though at this point in the series there's a lot of characters I don't really care about because they were kind of inconsequential and introduce so long ago in either this series of the jedi apprentice series a lot of the time I have trouble remembering who is who. Reading this I was like who is Bog and who is Tyro. I remember Didi and Astri but not anything specific about them. And by this point I think its time to wrap up the omega and zan arbor plotline.

Nerd: I have not much to say about this book. If you like Star Wars and this author’s style you will find the story enjoyable and easy-to-read. She usually writes books with more action scenes than the amount we find in this one, but that doesn’t mean is boring. There is more “court intrigue” than blaster fire exchange, in this case.

I haven’t found anything special among these pages. Nothing good or bad to point out. Just one more story set in that far galaxy I enjoy so much. I wonder if the main plot thread will be closed in the next (and last) book. No idea if there are any other sagas by Jude Watson where she could continue the story of Granta and Zan Arbor.

And Now as Anakin is beginning to figure things out. Here comes Palpatine bending him to his will as he bends everything to his will.

I really enjoyed the senate fight. I don't know if that was brought in purposefully to parallel the fight in Revenge of the Jedi, or if this was written before then, but it was exciting and fun either way.

Twisty, action-packed, perfectly paced and old friends in trouble - what more can a Jude Watson fan ask for? Oh, you also want some great setup for Obi-Wan and Anakin's partnership in Attack of the Clones? You got it! This series might've lost its way for a bit, but it looks like Watson will stick the landing. Onward to the last book!

Kirjan parasta antia olivat Obi-Wanin ja Anakinin sekä Palpatinen ja Anakinin suhteiden kuvailut. Huumori on aina plussaa.

Another look at characters from previous books like Astri and Dex. However, I think the most important thing from this book is the beginning on Anakin and Palpatine's relationship. We also get another mention of Anakin wanting to be in control and having the ability to influence people through the Force.

The great thing about the EU books is that they are really linked to the greater world. This one begins the manipulation of Anakin by Palpatine. You don’t just have to assume it happens by the time Revenge of the Sith comes along, it was happening.

This one was great. The pursuit of Granta Omega and Jenna Zan Arbor is fast-paced, there is lots of Senate intrigue, and Palpatine starts really working on planting seeds of dissatisfaction in Anakin's mind (not that it takes much, really). I also love that Astri is back in this story.

We return to Coruscant as the Jedi are required to testify before the senate. Already anti-jedi factions are emerging. Palpatine starts grooming / sowing seeds of doubt in Anakin for a greater role in the Jedi. And yes the usual amount of high speed chases, twists and turns. Good read :)

How...WHAT...why😢 It's interesting to see the Jedi interact with the Senate. Real power interacting with beings who have convinced themselves they are powerful. Anakin's relationship with Palpatine begins.

What starts as a somewhat slow political tale evolves into great action and a tense climax. I always enjoy the political machinations of Palpatine and this is a good look into both that and the beginning of his relationship with Anakin.

4.5 stars rounded to 5. The death of Tyro is tragic. I think we all know what he found. Palpatine’s influence on Anakin is brilliantly orchestrated here. I feel like this book does lot to tie in the movies and the JA series.
