The Fanged and the Furious: A Humorous Fantasy Adventure

Rate this book
I trained to kill monsters, not date them.

After a hunt goes wrong, I’m separated from my remote village and my childhood best friend, forced to fend for myself in the wilderness. Barely escaping with my life, I stumble into a secluded community of unnervingly attractive monster girls.

There’s a gorgeous dhampir with an aversion to blood, a sultry siren who can’t hold a tune, and a shy deergirl with a heart of gold. And somehow, they’ve all set their sights on me.

But something dangerous is stalking the town, and these peaceful villagers aren’t prepared for what’s coming. To defend my new home, I’ll have to teach them to fight as a team.

They say love is a battlefield. They weren’t kidding.

I finished this book, but that's only because I skimmed quite a bit to see if one plot point eventually happened. There's the bones of a good story here, but the MC and the women in it leave a lot to be desired for me.

The MC has trained to become a monster hunter for his small village. The book starts the day before he graduates, and his lone graduating classmate, the hottest woman in the village, wants to partner up with him to go on their first monster hunt. They get approval and head out. They run into the largest monster they've even heard of, and during the battle, get separated from each other. The MC spends the night in a cave hiding from the creature, and when he wakes up, finds the creature dead and finds out he's in another realm. And he runs into "The most beautiful woman he's ever seen", as someone always does.

The women in this story left a lot to be desired, because they all universally wanted to have sex with the MC pretty much after meeting him. The classmate? Talks about breeding a ton, and after a blow to the head, talks about them being married and having non-stop sex. The siren woman that can't sing for her life? She's an artist that draws fantasy creatures with huge and starts trying to bed the MC from the moment they meet. The fawn woman? She's also looking for sex. The dhampir? She's playing coy and is more conservative, but she wants him, too. And they are all drop dead gorgeous, and harems are common in this new realm.

In a nutshell, the MC works for nothing in this story, because the women do all the work for him.

There are continuity issues, like the MC being bounced off wall and thrown to the ground hard enough to see double, but the next day he apparently doesn't even have a bruise when he strips down to his underwear. The dhampir woman speaks with a Texas drawl, and calls the MC "Tex", despite neither the MC nor the dhampir coming from Earth.

I see zero reason to continue this series.

The pacing of this one felt a bit off to me.

The main character kept trying to make this a monster hunting story, while every other character wanted it to be a cozy slice-of-life, and the whole thing just felt like it didn't really know what exactly it was.

Rather than Adventure, i might consider this book as slice of life mostly. There are monsters and monster hunters there but most of the book is slice of life between the MC and the Lis. Given that, i liked this book nevertheless and i am looking forward for the next book in the series.

Fanged

Really enjoyed the story. Looking firsts to future installments. Love all the little hiking subtleties. Keep up the good writing.
