Red Jacket Pops

Rate this book
Red Jacket Pops starts with a tragedy that leads Jason Mast back to his hometown to not only figure what events led up to the tragedy, but also to once again be close to the love of his life, Sarah. There is a family secret that he doesn’t even know exists that is the key to answering all his questions, and reframes his own identity. To understand who Jason is, Red Jacket Pops journeys into his past, even childhood. It also delves into the lives of the people that impact Jason’s life the most.

The story takes place in a small town in Wisconsin in the early 2000’s. It looks at specific events in each of the characters’ lives where they make decisions that change their future, and the future of the people around them. After the girl that Jason loves, Sarah, marries Adam, he moves across the state of Wisconsin to La Crosse, leaving his life in Twin Lakes behind him. When an unforeseen tragedy forces him to return home, he finds himself once again falling for Sarah.

Red Jacket Pops is about confronting mistakes. The characters fear looking foolish. They try to escape truth. But there is no way out. Until they learn to accept the truth of their being, there is no peace for any of them. It is like trying to stop water from flowing with your hands. The water will always find a way, just as truth will. Each of them tries to different methods to escape, but none is successful. Until they give up. Give in. Let go. And trust that everything is going to show up when it is supposed to. Let the liquid flow where it will, whether it is leaking gasoline, a spilled beer, or spilled blood. A drainage ditch overflowing onto a freeway, or a small creek that flows into a river, a lake, or ocean. Then there can be true happiness. This is Jason's journey.

Excellent story. Jason is a "regular" guy, and it's so interesting to hear what he thinks about what's happening in his life. It's just a story of life, and how he and the rest of the people in his life deal with it all.
