I always love picking up a Lyon’s Den story and this was no different. It was a cozy, dramatic historical romance with just enough danger to keep the pages turning. I’m always a sucker for an enemies-to-lovers setup, and watching Lord Navan Beaufort—handsome rake, sworn bachelor, and all-around troublemaker—slowly realize he’s completely undone by Audrey was very satisfying. He doesn’t plan on love, but the moment he sees her, that plan goes straight out the window. I loved how protective he becomes, especially after the fire scene, which felt like a turning point for both of them.
Audrey was a sympathetic heroine. Her backstory is dark, and the threat of her uncle looms over the whole story, giving it real emotional weight. She’s vulnerable without being weak, and her fish-out-of-water moments added a nice contrast to Navan’s world. Their relationship grows slowly, with plenty of longing, misunderstandings, and emotional scars getting in the way. The “best friend’s sister” and “different worlds” tropes worked well here, and I enjoyed seeing two lonely people gradually choose each other.
If you like historical romances with danger, devotion, and soul-mate energy—plus a hero who falls hard—this one is definitely worth picking up.
