The Worst Kept Secret

Rate this book
Distance kept Jon and Becky apart ever since the first, unforgettable summer when they met at a sleepaway camp. Feelings developed quickly, even as they tried to keep their relationship a secret. Their connection was instant, electric, and unforgettable.

Despite the years that passed between each one, life continued to throw them opportunities, chances to reconnect, and they didn’t neglect a single one. Every time the world spun them back into each other’s orbit, the fire between them burned hotter than before.

How many years—and chances—will it take before timing stops working against them?

I loved this book, lighthearted, sweet, and well written. Taken on a journey through more than a decade of growth and love.

Meeting first at 14 and 18, Becky and Jon are drawn to one another, but there is an end date to their relationship. Four years later, they meet again. Then again...
This is a lovely story. The writing isn't brilliant (occasional lapses in tense, and at first, I wasn't happy with the 'voice') but the concept is really interesting and the characters grow on you as they grow.
Although spanning twelve years, the usual misunderstandings occur, but as they age, Jon becomes more open with his thoughts and emotions whereas Becky, diagnosed with ADHD, always has been.
There is also another strand to the story with regards to friendship.
Very enjoyable.

I tried this, but the early setup involving an 18-year-old camp counselor and a 14-year-old camper in a sexual context was a dealbreaker for me. Big ick.
