A quiet town. A place to disappear. Somewhere his inner monster could rest.
Nestled deep in the northeastern woods, Kittning seemed like the perfect refuge. Its isolation gave Roger’s wolf room to run without risking innocent lives. For the first time in years, he dared to believe he could stay. Maybe even make friends.
But Kittning has secrets of its own.
Something ancient has been sleeping beneath the surface — and now it’s waking up. Hungry. Vicious. Ready to devour anything... including wolf.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, Roger finds himself hunted. This year, he is someone else’s… Were Valentine.
It’s been ten years since Roger was turned into a werewolf. He’s never stayed in one place for long, until now. Living in a small rural town, working in a bar, and keeping his head down, he’s trying to stay out of trouble. But when he goes to check on a coworker who doesn’t show up for her shift, he stumbles onto a scene of brutal death, and his wolf knows something dangerous is lurking in the shadows.
I loved the first book, and while I enjoyed the second, it didn’t quite live up to the same standard. This one, however, is right up there with the first. We get a deeper look at how Roger is coping with the wolf inside him, and he begins to realise that being a lone wolf might not be the best idea after all. When danger comes to town, he’s forced to confront the fact that he may not be as strong as he thought. Thankfully, there’s no overly drawn-out, exhausting fight scene like in the second book. While the conflict here does take some time, it never feels like too much, and I genuinely enjoyed it. And after that ending? I’m very excited to dive into book four when it releases next month.
This was the third in the werewolf series by Jason Davis. (There are more planned.) It was definitely the best so far; however, my primary complaint remains grounded in the lack of explanation. Where do these supernatural beings come from? What's the lore behind them? How do the parameters governing this world operate? So much feels like it is glossed over for the sake of a body count. I'm not opposed to gore but I need to know why.
** Many thanks to BookSirens for an ARC of all three books in this series!
I am absolutely obsessed with this series. Jason Davis is really on to something, and I am enjoying every word. I can't wait for the next installment!!
This was such a fun and addictive read. Jason Davis perfectly balanced humor, romance, and supernatural chaos in a way that kept me hooked the entire time.
