Small Batch Volume 5: Beckoning

Rate this book
We’re no strangers to invitations. Requests for social events, emails to join the latest electronic platform, and non-stop advertisements all flow quickly and unrelentingly. We wade through them, as if they’re more chore than opportunity. We’re less familiar with beckoning.

If invitations shout, beckonings whisper. Unlike the glossy proposal with clean terms and conditions, a beckoning has fuzzy edges. The silence after its nudge is filled with more intrigue than clarity.

With unhurried eyes and a bent grin, the beckoner urges us, Come close or consider this. The inkling of goodness, however vague, still shimmers. Unlike the perfunctory etiquette or banal transaction of an invitation, we hear the hopeful phrase, We are wanted, and possibility awaits.

Five years ago, we followed the unlikely beckoning to create this journal. We had no roadmap or polished strategic plan. And to top it off, weren’t printed magazines a thing of the past? What was originally a risky endeavor has now become a privilege that marks the annual rhythm of our work. Throughout the year, we sift through experiences, conversations, and nudges - looking to glean stories too rich to go untold. What an honor it’s been.

This issue features stories of the beckoned - fathers who have said yes to their sons for almost a decade, and men who accepted God’s invitation into the pain and glory of their hearts. And these pages speak to the ongoing ask to all men, to step further into the restorative role God intends.

As always, we firmly believe these stories are also your own. It is through your belief, support, and participation in Restoration Project that these stories can be shared. As you read, may you be open to the desire and possibility that God beckons you with.

On behalf of the entire staff team at Restoration Project, we are deeply grateful for believing in and joining this work.
