The Ninth Realm is a romantasy full of delicious intrigue, gripping adventure, and slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance based on Norse mythology.

For ten thousand years, a Keeper has guarded Earth from ancient gods, greedy dwarves, and beautifully wicked fae. Saga knows nothing of this until an urgent email from her dying father summons her home to Iceland.

Fulfilling his final wish, Saga inherits his role as Keeper and heir to the family’s horse farm. But when Kalen, a devastatingly handsome stranger, arrives to fulfill a mysterious life debt, her world unravels into secrets and deadly magic.

Dark creatures come for her, revealing her father’s greatest deception that Saga is bound to Kalen through the sacred Life Bond. Worse, the Norse gods have resurrected the Tournament of Realms, a brutal contest among champions of the nine Norse realms to determine who is worthy to guard them.

To survive, Saga must master her skills while navigating the intrigue of the gods. Yet her greatest challenge may be resisting the dangerous fae prince who could either save her heart or shatter the world she’s fighting for.

A must-read for readers who love star-crossed lovers, plot twists, fated mates, and tournament vibes. Perfect for fans of Demi Winters and Danielle Jensen.

Perfect for fans of The Games Gods play, The Ninth Realm is a fun, fast paced ride! I have a soft spot for this subgenre and the snarky writing style.

I’ve been in quite a reading slump the past few months where I just didn’t feel like picking up a book (even if I was technically liking it), but I found myself excited to keep reading this one and it was difficult to put down.

I really enjoyed how Saga is just dropped into the middle of everything and has to find her way through. I also connected with the smallish amount we get of who Kalen is throughout the book.

My only issue is that some of the dialogue between Kalen and Saga was a bit overly cheesy towards the end. I think that there should’ve been a tad more lead up to some of their exchanges.

I did see almost all of the twists coming, but that didn’t change my enjoyment AT ALL. I loved the direction the story went and it strangely felt like a comfort read.

Overall, I had a blast and can’t wait to continue with the sequel!

Thank you to Julia Silverwood for the opportunity to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review :)

The world and magic system in this book was very unique. It is a mixture of real world and a fantasy world. When Saga's father dies she is thrust into a new world of Gods and creatures from other realms, not realizing that all the stories her father told her and the nightmares she always had were a reality and not fiction. In order to keep her alive, her father binds her life to a mysterious fae and she is forced to feel the bond between them. Her father passes down his Keeper role to her and members of her family are angry with this decision. Therefore, she is forced to compete in a deadly set of trials to win her role of Keeper and is up against all her family members of eligible age. Her mother took her away from Iceland so she did not receive the same training as her other cousins and so she knows that she is at a disadvantage. Along with that, if she dies so does her fae protector, which is a lot of responsibility to carry.

This book very interesting and I liked all the different realms and the politics with all the Norse Gods. I felt that Saga was always underestimated but she was scrappy and found a way to survive each time. Her bond with Kalen was an amazing little addition to all the stress she was enduring during the trials. These unwanted feelings and desires had become to overtake the rational side of her mind and I very much enjoyed their reluctant allies to lovers. I was so nervous with where this whole story was going and I am still extremely intrigued after the ending of the first book. At times I felt like we were dumped into the world building and almost learning it with Saga as she was unaware. But where I felt was lacking the most was the explanation of various classes/breeds of each realms citizens. In the fae world there were many different fae specie and I am sure it was that way in the other realms, which was not explained very well. I feel like it would have been less confusing in the fighting portions of the trial if there was more explanation. Saga's story definitely gave the chosen on vibes but she continued to stay a weak human with no magic. So with the ending of the first book and what happened I am super interested to see where Saga goes and where Kalen is. I would love a dual POV because with everything going on with Saga I feel like we are missing half the story without his POV. There were definitely times where the story dragged a bit and I think swapping POVs could have helped with that, because Kalen was always up to something. Despite all the criticism, I was sucked into the book and had a lot of fun reading it. It was entertaining and gripping. I will FOR SURE be reading book 2!!

Thank you Julia Johnson for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4.5/5 ⭐️

WOW! Just wow! I was totally blown away by this Romantasy debut by Julia Silverwood. I had no expectations when diving into this book. I just knew immediately, from the blurb, that this was a book I absolutely NEEDED to read! I was NOT disappointed one iota! This fast paced story pulled me right from the start and I never wanted to leave!! I am an avid reader of Fae Romantasy books and to have one that encompasses that plus Norse mythology….gimme please!

The writing was superb with such a lush and dangerous world. The imagery Silverwood delivers in this incredible world is exactly how I would picture any world with Norse mythology to be. It was all so vivid, I could clearly see it as if I had been standing there. The lethal tournaments were teeming with action and danger that lurked around every corner. The author did a fantastic job keeping you guessing at was coming next.

The characters are crafted superbly with strength, flaws and determination. Saga is such a strong resilient character. Even really having no clue as to why she has been placed in this position. She truly becomes such a kickass heroine. Kalen is mysterious dark and broody. A bond forces them together but closer they work together, the more the delicious angst and slow burn tension builds between them. The cast of side characters were as equally integral to this story. The found family Saga finds herself embroiled with is immensely satisfying. And then we have the cast of meddling gods who have crafted this tournament with its deadly intentions. It’s just all so magnificent.
The twists and turns will leave you reeling and aching for more. I will now be waiting patiently (or impatiently) for the next installment!

Thank you to Julia Silverwood for entrusting me with an early eARC of this book!

ARC Review:
First of all, WOW. This book had me hooked from the beginning. Saga’s father passes away, and she is left as The Keeper, only she doesn’t realize what that actually means. She’s thrown into a tournament of Keepers to decide who is worthy of the spot. As she learns that the stories she grew up with were actually real, she learns everything that was kept from her.

I need book 2!

Norse mythology, Iceland, gods and goddesses, deadly trials, and a story full of high stakes and tension… this one immediately pulled me in.

We begin in Iceland with Saga, returning home, but that sense of comfort doesn’t last long. Her quiet life is quickly disrupted by dangerous and unpredictable men, including Kalen with his cryptic behavior and Gunnar with his more aggressive presence. From that moment on, Saga is completely out of her depth. What starts on a rustic farm quickly expands into icy landscapes, shifting alliances, and far more questions than answers. Just when it feels grounded in clan dynamics, the story takes a turn and pulls in the gods themselves.

The world building is layered with allies, enemies, gods, and creatures that elevate the stakes. Saga is very much an underdog, and I found myself rooting for her even when I didn’t fully understand what was happening. This is a dense fantasy with familiar elements that remind me of stories like "Thor", "The Hunger Games", and "How to Train Your Dragon", while still carving out its own path.

The deadly trials, shifting friendships, and constant tension kept me engaged. There are moments where the story slows and gives you space to breathe, only to pull you right back into chaos. The reveal surrounding Kalen added another layer of intrigue and made everything feel even more complex. Saga is not only fighting for survival but also navigating her connection to him, which brings both tension and emotion into the story.

There are terms and words that are not immediately translated, which can make the reading experience feel more immersive but also requires patience. This is not a fast or easy fantasy. It is intricate and layered, and it takes time to process everything happening.

The romance adds another dimension with star crossed elements, forbidden tension, and a morally grey male character. It leans into a more poetic style at times, which gives it a classic, almost Shakespearean feel, but that same style can occasionally slow the pacing.

The ending builds into something bigger, expanding beyond the trials and hinting at what’s to come next. I really appreciated the glossary at the back, which helps ground the world and its mythology.

Overall, this was a complex and imaginative fantasy. I loved the creativity, the characters, and the ambition of the story. That said, it did take me time to fully get into it, and the density made it harder to stay immersed at times. This isn’t a binge read. It’s a story you need to sit with and take in piece by piece.

A solid four star read for me. I’m definitely interested in continuing the series and seeing where Saga’s journey goes next.

I was lucky enough to be chosen by the author to read an ARC of this book and so glad I was selected. I absolutely devoured this book in a day. I’ve never read any romantasy books that included any type of mythology and I enjoyed how well the author connected it throughout the story. Most of the book is focused on the three deadly trials that the FMC must compete in order to become keeper of the Midguard realm (commonly known as earth). Her father was the keeper prior to his death and chose his daughter to carry on his responsibilities. However, the gods chose to have a tournament to choose who the best and strongest of each realm who would be worthy. Current keepers of each of the nine realms were included in the trials along with anyone one else who was summoned to compete. Failure to compete ended in death so everyone was forced even if they didn’t want to become a keeper. The 3 trials themselves were brutal forcing everyone to fight or die. Some of the trials had me on the edge of my seat wondering how Saga would survive. She was considered the weakest of all with her small size, lack of magic and very little training. Although she was considered the underdog, her grit and determination were her biggest strengths to survive. She created alliances and surprised everyone including the gods given her small chances of survival. Her journey through the trials was brutal but her persistence and willpower to become a warrior helped her become successful. The world building was excellent. I felt I was there with them during the trials. The pacing was excellent. She made a visit to her dad who she had not seen in years and was unaware that he was earth’s realm keeper. She had no idea that her father, on his deathbed, would choose her to continue his legacy. There was never a lull in the story and I found myself wanting to know what happened next. There wasn’t much spice but plenty of yearning throughout the book. The plot twist at the end takes the story in a new direction which sets up for book 2.
Overall if you enjoy:
•Norse mythology
•Deceptive gods
•Deadly trials
•Magic
•Badass guardian animals
•Extreme dislike to lovers (wouldn’t call them enemies)
•Yearning
•Fated mates
•Fae, Dwarves, Fairies, Giants and other mythical creatures
Then this book is for you. Looking forward to book 2!

Hunger games meets Norse Mythology.

Saga is thrown into a world she believed to be myth and legend when he father is killed and passes on the role of Keeper to her. To make matters more interesting, her father’s dying act is to call in the Life Bond debt from a mysterious handsome stranger Kalen. Now Saga is being summoned by the Gods to a Tournament of the Realms, which hasn’t been held in thousands of years. She must face enemies, family and foe, to fight for her right to remain Keeper of Migdard. But she must also figure out this Life Bond and the male she is now forever tethered to.

The storyline is fun, and the world building really does remind me of Hunger Games with the tournaments, Gods acting as sponsors but with the fun added twist of Norse mythology. We meet characters such as Thor, Odin and Loki along with others such as fae, fairy, elves, dwarves, Vandir and more, from all 9 realms.

There are interesting side characters, such as her cousins Emil and Gunnar, as well as her chosen allies Liv, Brandr and Ivar. I love the magical creature guardians (Jökull and Stormchaser), the alliances, plotting and of course the forced proximity / slow burn romance. Although, my only complaint is the romance didn’t feel quite natural in its progression. We go from cold and only caring because “if you die I die”, to yes some tension, right into crazy all devoted. I didn’t think the tension moments felt as dramatic as our FMC seemed to think they were but I understand why Kalen acted the way he did. From the moment he switched, I did start to grow to want their bond to survive and now with that cliffhanger I can’t wait to see how they fight for each other in the next book!!!

Thank you to the author for this ARC copy, I would be thrilled to be part of the team for The Bonded Warrior book 2!

Norse Myths and Legends, Deadly Trials, Star-Crossed Lovers, Found Family, Fae, Magic

Ninth Realm follows Saga, a college student who travels to Iceland to say goodbye to her dying father. Stories she grew up on soon become her reality as she learns her father was a Keeper of one of the Ninth Realms, and she is expected to follow in his footsteps. With his dying breath, he ties her life to Kalen, a dark and powerful stranger, and makes her Keeper of Midgard (Earth). In order to uphold this position she is thrust into, she must compete in The Tournament of Realms, a deadly set of trials held by the gods.

I love a good story with Norse myth and legend. My favorite parts were the trials and high stakes moments Saga found herself in. Saga is a formidable fighter and leader. I loved the side characters and her friends she made during the tournament. They contrasted her well but also added to the story. It was great reading about a trio of powerful, deadly women who held their own. Moreover, reading about how Saga meets with the gods and interacts with them was fun. She stayed true to herself and didn’t budge regardless of the pressure placed on her. I loved the dark, powerful moments Kalen had where he used his magic. The slow-burn and tension between Saga and Kalen had me on the edge of my seat and developed well over the course of the story. The world building was good, and I look forward to seeing how it develops further in the next book. Some parts of the book were notably cringey or repetitive, but it was still easy to read. I could also just be adjusting to the writing style. Overall, I think this was a fun read, and I do plan to dive into the next book to see where the story goes. If you are looking for a fun time and a modern introduction into Norse mythology, give this a read!

All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you, Julia Silverwood, for allowing me to read this story early.

ARC REVIEW
A Lethal, Mythic Reimagining of Midguard
If you’re looking for a romantasy that actually leans into the "fantasy" side of the genre, Julia Silverwood’s latest is a must-read. By weaving Norse mythologyinto a high-stakes tournament arc, Silverwood creates a world that feels both ancient and dangerously immediate.

The Plot: High Stakes and Divine Deception
The story follows Saga, an underdog in every sense of the word. Lacking the magic and stature of her competitors, she is thrust into a brutal, three-trial gauntlet to claim her father's legacy as the Keeper of Midguard. The pacing is relentless; the "fight or die" nature of the trials kept me hooked, and the world-building—specifically the lush, atmospheric depiction of the nine realms—is incredibly vivid.

The Romance: Slow-Burn Perfection
Don't expect instant gratification here. The chemistry between Saga and the dark, broody Kalen is built on delicious angst and yearning. Their forced bond creates a slow-burn tension that feels earned, set against a backdrop of "found family" that adds genuine emotional weight to the story.

Badass Women and Found Family
Saga isn't alone in her struggle to survive the divine games. She is surrounded by a cast of powerful female side characters who bring their own brands of strength and grit to the trials. This sense of found family provides an emotional anchor for Saga as she transitions from a "weak" mortal underdog into a capable warrior.

Guardians and Spirit Bonds
Adding another layer to the magic system are the bonded creature guardians. To survive the brutal trials, Saga must learn to "tether" with her companion beast, creating a spiritual and tactical partnership that is as integral to her survival as her own willpower.

The Verdict
While the spice level is low, the narrative tension more than makes up for it. The gods are manipulative, the trials are visceral, and that final plot twist completely upends the board for Book 2.

"You put the starlight to shame, he whispers reverently."
"We're two souls from across the stars who found eachother."

Today I finished reading my eARC of The Ninth Realm, by Julia Silverwood, and I was amazed by how good it was. I have never been one for Greek, Roman, or Norse mythology in books, but after reading this one’s blurb, I decided to apply to the ARC and I am so glad I did. This romantasy deals with Norse mythology, and absolutely consumed me. I have such a deep love for this FMC: she is a literal warrior and plays her absolute best with the cards she is given. She is honestly so inspiring and intriguing to follow, and her relationship with our MMC is even better. This book deals with forbidden love, deadly trials, forced proximity, and fated mates and is amazing. This did not feel like a debut novel because of how much grace and fluidity it has, and it makes it so easy to dive into. It is the perfect balance of twists, tension, world building, friendship, and character arcs which made it not too heavy. I think one of the most important aspects of this book is in fact how our FMC deals with grief after the death of a loved one. In a lot of fantasy books, I feel like death is sort of brushed over, but this author makes it so her grief is a part of what drives her. Sure it makes her angry, but she also allows herself to feel, and use her grief to make her loved one proud. It was a really cool thing to read and experience to follow, and it makes me excited for how heavier topics are handled in future books. The ending left me really eager for the next book, and I am so excited to follow our FMC on her journey!

Thank you so much to Julia Silverwood for the opportunity to read and review this eARC. The Ninth Realm comes out on May 10th and preorders are available now, so don’t hesitate to get your hands on this one!

ARC REVIEW FROM AUTHOR:

YES YES YES YES YES!!! This book has everything that I love. Enemies to lovers trope as well as the forced bonded mates. Trials and tribulations, annoying mythical gods that intervene, and of course the tension and yearning the entire book that just makes you want to read it faster.

I love how Julia Silverwood was able to slowly lay out the world building in this story without giving too much away. I also love how she tied the joke of the Avengers into the book because she was using Thor, Odin and Loki (actual Norse myological Gods) into the book. I think it made me love it more because it helped me connect to the book and it also helps separate it from the actual Marvel movies that we have on screen.

Saga, the FMC from the very beginning never pretends to be an amazing fighter but she will use the skills that she was trained with her whole life in the tournament to help her win. And a lot of the times when you come across fantasy books where the FMC is either terrible at fighting or amazing at fighting, it’s never explained how they got their skills. All of the sudden this female is the most skilled fighter out of the crowed after a month of training and it drives me crazy. Or if the FMC is a trained fighter, they don’t go into detail on how they are a great fighter. They just are. THIS IS WHY DETAILS MATTER! And this is why I enjoyed this book so much.

And oof do I love me that dark haired fae daddy named Kalen. 🥵 I’m hoping in the upcoming books, we get to see some POV from Kalen’s side and maybe get to see more of his background, more world building, as some more side character introductions as well.

I absolutely devoured this book and recommend it to everyone who reads it!!

4.5 ⭐ ️As a reader who LOVES a fae driven romantasy, as well as an epic fantasy with Norse mythology, like The Bloodsworne Saga, I loved this.
☼Found Family
☼Forbidden Romance
☼Trials to the Death
☼Animal Familiars

There were only two things that didn’t make this a 5 ⭐️ and I’m being PICKY!
☼I felt like the enemies to lovers weren't true enemies to lovers, but more of a forbidden romance. The FMC had the initial attraction, but this girl was hardcore swooning from the beginning. Same thing with the MMC. If there was more angst and they were actual enemies, it would have made it perfect.
☼The MMC had sooo many smells. I think something that would make it stick more would be if he had a signature scent.

Back to telling you why you should read this book, as a romantasy, norse mythology loving gal!
☼I love a sarcastic queen! The witty banter between the FMC and literally everyone never got old, especially while close to death. There were so many moments where the FMC was told she was weak and too fragile but there were few that she actually showed as such. Felt like a big fu*k you to them!
☼The side characters, specifically one who has dry humor with fire in her veins, were well written and I felt like they helped the story along instead of just being side characters.
☼The accuracy to Norse Mythology I loved, especially with our FMC living in the modern world and having the shell shock of it all, as well as comparing them to the Avengers movies made me giggle.
☼Still envisioned all the Marvel characters in my head 😂

For my first ARC read, I’m so glad this one was my first! I’m looking forward to book two and I already have some theories in mind 👀

4/5 stars.

So I applied for this ARC through a random suggested Instagram ad and went into it with superrrr low expectations because of that. I am SO glad I got selected! Right from the beginning, this was action packed and that fast pacing was maintained until the very end. Normally I don't enjoy modern references in a magical/fantasy world like this but the crossover between Norse mythology and modern day was well done here and not over the top (the Avengers line made me chuckle). The mashup of mythology and modern day terminology with a veritable menagerie of magical creatures and realms could have been chaotic but the world-building was done in a clear manner so I was able to follow along easily (and devour this book in an evening).

The snarky banter and the constant linguistic confusion between the people from different realms was fun to read and I loved the strong female friendships that Saga formed during the trials. As for Saga herself, I loved that she didn't have to become someone else to be a badass. She grows into her power as a warrior without losing her core self to the corruption and games happening around her. The romance with Kalen did feel a touch juvenile for my taste, but they grew on me a bit by the end and I have a feeling they will do a lot of growing as a couple in the next book. I was able to guess the Valkyrie plot twist, but I’m still hyped to see what Julia does with that storyline next! Thank you Julia for the ARC and please keep me on your list for the next installment!!

TLDR: An Instagram ad find that actually delivered! Fast-paced, action-packed, and full of Norse gods, deadly trials, and a warrior FMC who doesn't lose her soul in the process.

The Ninth Realm by Julia Silverwood is an absolute standout in the romantasy genre, and I am so grateful to have received an advanced reader copy.
Saga, our protagonist, is a woman from Earth — or Midgard, as it is known in the world she is suddenly thrust into — who finds herself competing in a series of trials alongside candidates from realms she never knew existed. The goal? To be chosen as Keeper of their realms. What follows is a beautifully layered story full of twists, jaw-dropping plot points, and the kind of world-building that pulls you in and refuses to let go.
What truly sets this book apart is its heart. Yes, there is magic, Norse mythology, and high-stakes trials — but at its core, this is a story about finding your people in the most unexpected places. Saga forges deep, meaningful friendships with beings from other realms, and those bonds feel completely earned. There is also a deeply satisfying thread involving a bully from Saga's past who reappears in the tournament — watching her rise above that history and show her true strength was one of the most quietly powerful moments in the book.
The romance is a beautifully executed slow burn that will have you absolutely desperate for more, and the balance of humor and lighter moments keeps the story from ever feeling too heavy, even when the stakes are at their highest.
If you loved Percy Jackson but are craving something more adult, with Norse mythology instead of Greek, deep friendships, and a heroine you will genuinely root for — this is your next read.
The Ninth Realm publishes May 21, 2026. Add it to your TBR now. You will not regret it.

WOW! Must Read!

The Ninth Realm is inspired by the Norns. If you love anything to do with Vikings and the Gods, this is for you.

Saga Ragnar is the FMC who starts off not knowing any other Realm exists except Earth (Midgard). She receives a letter from her dad, in Iceland, to hurry home. When she gets there, everything changes. Her father's horse farm is destroyed and her dad is dying. On his death bed, he calls in a debt to a fae. The debt forces Saga and the fae, Kalen, into a life bond. Saga then becomes the new Keeper of Midgard.

Not only is Saga thrust into this new reality from the start after losing her dad, she also now needs to fight for her life against family when the Gods decide the the Keepers of the other eight realms must compete in trials to be deemed worthy of the role Keeper.

Keeping their life bond a secret, Saga and Kalen fight their feelings for each other but eventually they both realize their love for each other. But how are they meant to be together if everything is working against them?

I absolutely loved this book. I love anything viking and Gods related. Then you throw in some fae and it's the perfect read. Saga is such a strong character, not only in strength but also heart and mind. I really enjoyed the female friendship in this book as well and the banter between them. The three ladies are definitely a ride or die goal! Kalen is the perfect fae. Ruthless and cunning but soft for her. I can't wait to read book 2.

ARC Review..

Welcome to the world of Deadly Trials, Unlikely friendships, an unwanted Bond, a few lack luster humans, Fae, Mythical Gods Fairies, kick ass animal companions… and I'm immediately in.

The Ninth Realm follows the FMC, Saga, who is suddenly pulled back to Iceland at her father’s request—only to discover that the childhood stories he told her are actually real. Gifted the mysterious “Keeper” role, her life shifts from normal to absolute chaos in the blink of an eye. Saga is just a run of the mill college student with untamed deadly skill, honed by years of practice while always striving to make her father proud. She is brilliant in her innocence, stubborn in her resilience, and violence personified as she fights to keep those she loves safe. Saga is thrown headfirst into a world of Norse mythology. Facing deadly trials in the Tournament of Realms to prove her worth as Midgard’s protector.

A debt owed, suddenly called due by a Bond that can’t be broken- pulls Kalen into the mayhem. The mysterious Fae who is harboring tantalizing secrets of his own.

The world building is epic. Intricate details that immerse you fully into the fabled world. Heartbreak gives way to healing as allies, once thought enemies, become found family. I devoured the book! Grueling edge of the seat action and secrecy, plot twists that keep you guessing, unpredictable outcomes, and the slow-burn is chef’s kiss.

The ending.. ugh.. it’s brilliant! I cannot wait for book 2!

Thank you, Julia Silverwood, for the amazing opportunity of being part of your ARC team!

I was fortunate enough to be gifted the ARC of this!

I admit, I almost didn't think I'd like it because the beginning was so sudden and it just didnt seem to.....flow well. I would've liked some more background than Saga attempting to be killed by otherworldly creatures and her father suddenly being on his deathbed. BUT. Once the story got going, it really picked up. I'm a sucker for some Fae and add in Gods and Norse mythology? Sold!

I did like Saga as an fmc. I was only slightly annoyed by her when she kept thinking of Kalen and how hot he was 😂 but then reminded myself I'd probably do the same thing! She was a warrior and problem solver through and through and I appreciated that. Making alliances with other candidates and then morphing it into an unbreakable bond was heartwarming! I liked Liv and Brandr. And Ivar even grew on me!

Okay, and let's talk about the fact Saga ended up with two guardians! Well, technically not really since Jökull didn't really "bond" to her. I ALMOST thought I had predicted the outcome of Saga bonding to a guardian, but then I was pleasantly thrown for a loop and proven so wrong! It was unexpected and made the story all the more better.

I do have one single critique/criticism/catch? When Saga had slept with Kalen.... and she woke up beside him.... it mentioned his "mahogany" eyes or gaze when Kalen has silver/gray eyes. Not sure what that was about.

Anyway. I'm actually looking forward to the next book! And Saga's adventure as a Valkyrie!

Man plans and the gods laugh.

A tantalizing fantasy read with every major character's lives on the line in a tournament staged by the Norse gods. I loved every bit of this novel, from the romance to the action to the internal politics and mythology. The cast was diverse- appropriate for a fantasy book of this scale- and each character was vibrant, with a strong personality. It's a classic technique to use gods as a plot device, moving the story along as they treat mortals like pawns. Silverwood did a spectacular job demonstrating the power the gods hold over the contestants. By the end, you learn that even the best-laid plans are only a fraction of the course the powers-that-be have in mind.

The romance between Kalen and Saga was, of course, one of the most prominent parts of this book and worth its salt; one of the better relationships I've read in romantasy entries. Though, I am partial to the "life/soul bond" trope, along with more popular fantasy groups like fae and elves. Not only did watching their love blossom feel good to read, their life bond kept risk high at all times.

I won't spoil the tournament itself, but I can ensure potential readers that it is a thrilling read. Each tournament stage has new risks and settings, with the environment often just as hostile as the competitors. There are moments of rest in-between stages, but I would say they are needed and there are no stalls in the writing. Overall a spectacular read, start-to-finish! I can't wait for the sequel!

ARC Review:
So thankful to the author for the ability to read and review this Novel because… WOOOOOOOOOW!

My biggest take away from this read was that I wish the second book was already in my hands. Like immediately.

Norse mythology A+✨
The Gods and Goddesses we love and hate but with a fresh take. Add in the fact each Realm is apart of a fantasy/monster genre and I was like HELL YES! I didn’t think it would be possible, but my friends it is VERY VERY possible.
Fae, Norse gods, Monsters of all sorts. GIANTS?! Magic?!! Animal/Creature Guardians! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

The world building 🗺️
I did not expect with the above that even having modern presence was possible. But it was and made pieces of it feel current. Except…portals. Thats all Im saying. Julia Silverwood created a world that made sense but also threw you into lands of mystery and imagination.

Romance 🖤
How about the BANTER. Omg I LOVED the snide comments, the friendships, the enemies, the collective character relationships. The romance had me raise an eyebrow a few times. It felt a little repetitive in the world or romantasy but it also made sense and was tastefully done. Slow burn here.

End result of this book was that it was fresh, fun, kept me engaged and honestly wanting more. I devoured this book in 24 hrs. Couldn’t put it down and now and begging PLEASE BOOK 2!!!!!

Out of the many books I have read this one stands in its own way and I really think is going to captivate many who read.
Delicious!

ARC Review
After her father is murdered, Saga is thrown into the Tournament of Realms to claim her right to follow in her father’s footsteps as The Keeper of the Ninth Realm (Midgard/Earth). This book is fast-paced and gripping from the very start! It includes Norse mythology (Hi, Thor!) and a variety of mythical creatures, complete with animal companions/guardians. The tournament leads to conniving rivals and heart-warming camaraderie (Girl Power!).

The forbidden romance is deliciously slow-burning. Connected through a Life Bond, Saga and Kalen are tied to each other. But despite their initial hatred for one another, there is a chemistry and pull between them that cannot be ignored. However, Kalen is keeping secrets.

Despite being the underdog of the tournament, Saga constantly proves her resilience and determination to carry on her father’s legacy as Keeper of Midgard. This book was such a fun and easy read. The fast pace kept the pages turning; the slow-burn romance was chef’s kiss, and though the premise includes some common tropes of the genre, the story felt fresh and unique. I highly recommend this book if you loved the trials in books like Fourth Wing or The Hunger Games AND if you enjoy a dark, mysterious, and broody Fae MMC :)

This is truly the start of an epic series...

The Ninth Realm by Julia Silverwood follows Saga as she navigates being thrust into a world found only in Earth's (or Midguard's) Norse Mythology. After the mysterious death of her father, Saga must quickly adapt to a whole new, secret world where the gods are real and eight other realms exist. She finds herself forced into dangerous trials that will examine her worth as she realizes she may be Midguard's only hope for protection against forces that were once thought to by mythical. Adding to her current dilemma is that she finds herself bound to a fae, a species she once thought not real, but also taught was not a species to trust. She soon realizes she is fighting for her life and also a desire that complicates things at every turn.

Wow. This first installment of the Norse Realms Saga had me reading late into the night. I was hooked from the first chapter! I could not put it down. The plot was immersed in Norse mythology with all the gods and legendary species present for an incredible ride full of high-stakes, love, mystery, political intrigue, and betrayal. One of my favorite parts was the inclusion of animal sidekicks, which I absolutely love!

If you enjoy deadly trials, star-crossed lovers, and plot twists (the last chapter OMG!), then you will consume this story and be salivating for book two!

Happy Reading!

Give me a story where a human is thrown into a world of fae, Norse gods, and deadly trials, and I’m immediately in.

The Ninth Realm follows Saga, who is suddenly pulled back to Iceland after her father’s death—only to discover that everything she thought were just stories were actually real. She inherits his role as Keeper of a hidden gate between the nine Norse realms, and just like that, her life shifts from normal to absolute chaos. Add in a mysterious fae prince, a life bond she didn’t ask for, and a brutal tournament… and things escalate quickly.

I really enjoyed the overall concept—Norse mythology, trials, found family, and animal protectors? Say less. Watching Saga navigate this new world while trying to honor her father and step into her role was compelling, and the Iceland setting made it even better (one of my favorite places!).

That said, I did find myself wanting a bit more depth in the romance. At times, it felt a little rushed, and I would have loved to see more development—especially from the MMC’s perspective—to really build that connection and tension.

Overall, this was a strong and promising start to the series. If you love star-crossed lovers, fated mates, plot twists, and tournament-style stakes set in a rich mythological world, this is definitely one to add to your TBR.

Happy reading! 📚✨

4.25 ⭐ - My first ARC read! 🎉

What a way to start my ARC reading journey! I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

🗡️ Deadly trials

🩵 Forbidden romance

🗡️ Norse Legends

🩵 Mythological Creatures

🗡️ Political Intrigue

Saga and her father had a relationship filled with secrets (daddy didn't tell her much) that eventually led to an epic and life changing journey with trials, new friendships and a bond that transcends realms.

While the beginning of this book felt slightly rushed/disjointed, it wasn't long before things started coming together and it got good fast! A few details that I absolutely loved about this book were the imagery, specifically about Saga's Icelandic home and heritage, and the friendships she made along the way. And, of course, I would be remiss not to mention the MMC. Swoon. A broody protector that you just KNOW is obsessed but can't admit it? Yes, please!

Overall, I absolutely recommend this book! If you like medium paced, fun books with good writing and romance, this book is for you! Also, the cover? GORGEOUS 😍

Side note: I have some of my Norwegian grandmother's nisse dolls in my house, so I LOVED that they were included in this story 🩵

Thank you to Julia Silverwood and her team for letting me read an ARC of this book, can't wait for the next one!

Rounding up to 4.25

Thank you Julia Silverwood for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for an honest review!

It has been a while since reading a book with Norse mythology, and I must say this was fun, fast paced good time!

Saga, our FMC, was awesome. She is tough mentally and physically and doesn’t quit when it gets hard, which it often does. I also enjoyed seeing her stay true to herself while other are trying to tell her how to act and who to be. She refuses to let her choices be determined for her.

Now the trials, if you like trials, this has some great trials. They are unique and quite essential for moving the plot along.

Now I will admit when I started this it seemed like a book plot I have read many times before, but oh the twist and turns. They were exciting! And that ending!

My only minor down to all this is I do feel the romance in this was some what unearned. While I still enjoyed the relationship between the FMC and MMC, the blurb for the book says they are bonded pretty much from the start, so it’s pretty easy to see where this is going to go and as such felt a little rushed.

However, I still loved Kalen and need to know what happens to the characters with the plot and relationship. Can’t wait for book 2!

3.5 Stars! I received an ARC copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was a gripping and engaging story that left me needing to know what happens next!

I ended up really liking this book - and enjoyed it much more than I thought I would after the first 10-15%. It's a story based around Norse mythology, which I don't know much about, so some aspects of the story and characters were hard to follow. The characters were pretty likable, although I wish we got a bit more of a backstory on Saga. Hearing about her growing up or even one of the tales her father would share with her about the gods would have been helpful context. She was new to this world but knew some aspects of the players through those stories, so without the reader having that same context, it was a bit confusing as to how she knew certain things. However, once I got over the lack of sufficient set up with the world and her character, I really enjoyed the story. The high stakes trials and twists were gripping and I was really interested to see where things went. The ending felt a bit rushed, but also, a lot happened. We were left with a lot of questions and it seems like circumstances will be really different for our characters in the next book. I'll be curious to see how things continue to develop in book 2.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Holy heck. This is the read of the year so far for me! Julia Silverwood delivered a beautifully written fantasy novel filled with Norse mythology that completely pulled me in from the very first page.

Saga is that girl. She is everything I’ve ever wanted in a heroine. Brave, grounded, and genuinely likable. She has flaws, but they are written in such a natural way that they add depth without ever making her frustrating.

And the romance… I loved every second of it. It never overshadowed the main plot, but still gave us yearning, slow burn, and just the right amount of angst to keep me fully invested.

The trials were such a highlight. I couldn’t get enough of them. This story feels familiar in the best way, like the fantasy comfort we all love, but it still managed to surprise me with twists and turns I genuinely did not see coming.

And Kalen… swoon 😍

I truly cannot wait for book two. This was an easy five stars and I’ve loved every single part of it.

ARC REVIEW

3.75⭐️

This is a Norse-based romantic fantasy novel. Saga, our FMC, has been moved from Iceland to Florida by her mother to protect her from the dangerous life of a Keeper, which her father leads.

Saga leaves college and returns to her father’s request to find him critically injured. She is immediately confronted by family members who desire the power of being a Keeper. Despite her lack of experience and time away from this life, her father chooses and names her. He also arranges for a fae male to pay his life debt by giving Saga a life bond to protect her.

Now, Saga must fight for her title, endure trials that could lead to death, and she is falling in love with this fae, which could have disastrous consequences. Not to mention gods who like to manipulate!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it to be a fun read. However, it does fall under the YA genre, and the development of the romance felt a bit awkward. Additionally, I wish the character development of the MMC was more in-depth.

Wow — just wow! I was incredibly lucky to receive an ARC of this book, and I’m so grateful I got the chance to read it early. This quickly became one of my all-time favorite reads.
It has everything I love: rich Norse mythology, deadly trials, fierce animal guardians, a gripping enemies-to-lovers romance, and so much more. I was completely hooked from the very first page. I normally only read at night after my 15-month-old is asleep, but this book had me reading all day long — my poor baby had to put up with a mom who couldn’t put it down!
Julia’s writing is absolutely captivating. Her prose flows beautifully and pulls you in so deeply that you keep telling yourself “just one more chapter.” She builds such an immersive world that you feel like you’re actually there, experiencing everything alongside the characters. The dialogue and relationships are so well done that the characters quickly start to feel like friends you’re fighting beside.
I’m already impatiently counting down the days until the second book comes out. I’m desperate to continue Saga’s journey!
Do yourself a favor — grab this book and read it. You won’t regret it!
