Avalanche on the Mountain: Watchdog Mountain Division Book 6

Rate this book
He's spent years watching her from a distance. She's watched him back. One mission will finally bring them together—if it doesn't tear them apart first.Ben “Moose” Massey is a man of few words. An artisan jewelry maker and blacksmith who prefers the language of fire and steel to conversation, he's spent years perfecting his craft—and pretending he doesn't notice Charlene King. Charlie's extraordinary. Combat-trained, sharp as hell, and way above his paygrade. Or so he tells himself.

Charlie “King Charlemagne” King has saved lives as a SWCC and on bodyguard details across the world. She's fearless in a firefight, steady under pressure, and only nervous around one man—the mountain of a blacksmith who won't even ask her out. She's caught him looking. She's looked right back. But Ben Massey stays in his forge, and Charlie stays inside her armor.

She's always been one of the guys—the tomboy who can drink anyone under the table and curses like the sailor she is. But secretly, Charlie dreams of being someone's princess instead of their king. She never expected her fantasy to start at a Renaissance Faire, or dared hope that the gentle giant behind the forge would be the one man who could make her feel delicate, feminine, cherished.

When a deadly mission forces them together, Ben and Charlie must work side by side—close enough to feel the spark they've been denying, close enough to realize what they've been missing. Between stolen glances over forged steel and whispered confessions under festival lights, the walls finally start coming down.
But opening their hearts means risking everything. And in their line of work, everything includes their lives.

A quiet genius and the fantasy-loving woman who's always been his equal. A slow-burn, sizzling romance where competence meets consent, and found family cheers them on.

Oh my gosh, you won’t believe the story of Ben “Moose” Massey! He’s been totally smitten with Charlene King since the very first moment he saw her step into Watchdog—like love at first sight! Ben’s been pouring his heart into his craft, spending hours at his forge, creating gorgeous wedding rings for his “chosen” family, all while secretly dreaming that someday Charlie, the legendary “Warrior Princess King,” might see him as more than just a guy with a hammer.

And Charlie? Well, she’s been treated pretty much like one of the guys her whole life—her dad and brothers kind of treated her as the household maid before she joined the Navy. That’s where she met Shane, who after he left the Navy, went to work for Watchdog Security, Where he then introduced her to Kyle bringing her into the Watchdog family. Talk about a journey!

But get this—one shared love of a book turned into a whole adventure! Ben’s passion for that story gave him the courage to step away from his forge and chase after his dream girl. Charlie, too, began shedding her armor—literally and figuratively—to become the princess she always dreamed of being.

Then, plot twist! When Charlie gets assigned to protect the leads of a movie based on that same beloved book series, things go totally nuts—jousting mishaps, creepy online trolls, and even leaked secrets! And guess what? The sneaky leak behind all the chaos is a total shocker! But no worries—true love and happily ever after always find a way to win in the end!

I devoured this book. I don't know anything about FAE or romantasy so if you read that then a book and some of the characters mentioned probably will mean more to you. I didn't need to know anything about them to enjoy this book. Charlie has always been one of the "guys" she is strong, tall and always the protector. Ben is a big gentle giant blacksmith that doesn't have the confidence to approach the girl he really likes. I think I really could relate to Charlie and Moose as I was always the taller/bigger kid growing up in my friend group and I always tried to make myself smaller to fit in. I wish I had known then that I didn't need to try to shrink myself. The way these two characters saw each other was perfect and you'll understand once you read it. I think Charlie had felt invisible for so long and Ben could read her like their favorite book. While Charlie showed Moose how she saw him and it was so heartwarming. You also get the mystery, suspense along with a great love story. I hate to say this is my favorite book in this series because I have loved them all but I'm so glad to get more Watchdog adjacent books. Even if you haven't read the rest of the series read this one! It's ok to start here!

Ben aka Moose, has been “dancing” around Charlie aka King, for awhile, his old insecurities always creep up, not good enough and why would she want to be with a mountain of a man with a stutter who also happens to be a nerd. Little does he know that Charlie is attracted to him as well but she has own insecurities, always one of the guys, not dainty or womanly enough. They find out that they have more in common than either of them knew, her new assignment has them working together and once their walls come down, there is nothing better than the two of them together. But when her dad pays a visit and shows Ben what she grew up with, instead of walking away, he holds her closer. With the final act in her assignment has her in grave danger, Ben will do whatever it takes to get to her…no matter what.
Oh my….these two stole my heart, together they are stronger and tackle their issues head on….sigh and swoon. The slow burn towards their HEA had me smiling from ear to ear and I LOVED the no drama between them, laying their hearts on the line and not disappointing this reader.

Searching for a romantic suspense that actually delivers on both the "romance" and the "suspense"?Olivia Michaels has crafted a story that is perfectly paced and impossible to put down.

Ben is a rugged blacksmith with a heart of gold (and a booth at the Renaissance Faire!) who provides the perfect grounded foil to Charlie. Charlie is an ex-military powerhouse working for Watchdog Security, and I lived for her competence and strength. The "sizzle" between these two is definitely there! Their dynamic is a masterclass in chemistry, blending humor and heat seamlessly. From the mountain setting to the security stakes, the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page.

Even though this is Book 6 in the Watchdog Mountain Division Series, it works perfectly as a standalone. You won’t feel lost, but you will want to go back and read the rest of the series immediately.

I found myself laughing so much at the start to this one. Ben and Charlie were so smitten with each other, yet so awkward, kinda like when you are a kid and just discover the opposite sex, it was very sweet. I loved how all of their friends knew, were rooting them on and did what they could subtly to encourage each of them.

It was great that the job that Charlie worked, brought her in close contact with Ben. Better was all the small ways that Ben let Charlie know he really saw her and Charlie realizing that. They really were so good together, so when that finally happened, it felt like I was loudly cheering them on.

The case itself, was a bit crazy! I feel bad at the "bad" guy, they were used, really hope that the real bad guy get's his.

Avalanche on the Mountain

Wow! Olivia has done it again! This story is about Ben and Charlie. This couple has been tiptoeing around each other for a while. The assignment that Charlie is assigned brings this couple together - finally! The couple Charlie is assigned is also friends with Ben - well Rowan is. The bad person in this story was a real shocker. Now that the assignment is over and all came out of the avalanche. Ben finally proposed and this couple start their happy ending. It was so sad about Sean but there was good memories if him throughout the story. FANTASTIC job Olivia! I would recommend this book! Can't wait for the next book!

Avalanche On The Mountain by Olivia Michaels is a fantastic romantic suspense. Ben is a blacksmith and has a booth at the local Renaissance Faire. Charlie is ex-military and she now works for Watchdog Security. Their story is packed with drama, humor, action, sizzle and suspense. I loved every page! Avalanche On The Mountain is book 6 of the Watchdog Mountain Division Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.

I read an ARC copy of this book from BookFunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The blacksmith and the princess

What a book! Absolutely loved this series, and finally got to see Ben and Charlie's story.
Both always feeling too big to be allowed, both warriors who also have hearts of gold.

Beautiful end to the 6 main guys.

But the closing scene giving us a peak into book 7 - one we're weren't expecting. Can't wait for book 7!

Awesome!

The story of Ben and Charlie was well worth the wait! You just have to love that two people who faced bullying and abuse found each other in their love of fantasy! Every woman deserves to be treated as a princess and every man deserves to be treated like a king! Can’t wait for the next book of the series!

Avalanche

So far each book in this series just outshines the previous book. Ben finds a woman he has known for quite awhile just might be his happily ever after if her can get his mouth to work. They have a strange road ahead of them but will an avalanche stop their progress - for ever?

This moving tale perfectly balances vulnerability and courage. The main character's journey through raw emotional honesty is both gripping and relatable. It’s a powerful reminder that true strength lies in opening up. The happily ever after is hard-earned, deeply satisfying, and will leave you beaming long after the final page.
