Mahasin never expected her life to change with a single night—and she certainly never expected Gage Blaque. Their worlds weren’t meant to cross, but fate had other plans. Months later, when she learns she is expecting, the truth comes with its own kind of she has to find him, even if she can barely find the words to say why.
Gage never imagined fatherhood would come to him like this—sudden. But the moment he sees Mahasin again, everything in him shifts. He steps in without hesitation, not out of obligation, but out of something deeper.
In a season where nothing is certain, they discover that sometimes family isn’t planned.
Okay... this was good. I am ready for book 2. Wait... Did the baby have Down Syndrome or not? Did I miss that? Aside from that question. The story was good. Autism did not have the MMC. If you catch my drift. People tend to forget that fact.
A clear 5/5, in my opinion. Ms. Shanté I am going to put you on my radar. This novel was marvelous. The mere fact that the MMC was neurodivergent but was a success that alone speaks volumes. I have read other books in the past with characters on the spectrum, but this one hit a little different. He was also a virgin over the age of thirty. He had his quirks, but not once did Mahasin disrespect him. Now Gage's so-called girlfriend, Paris, was the total opposite and a leech. She was trying to suck all the funds out of Gage's accounts. Deep down, Gage knew that Mahasin was his forever. Although they weren't technically together, he spared no expense when it came to her. He made sure she did not want for anything, plus all of her needs were met.
Yeah, ladies and gents, you will like this one. First and foremost, it is well-written with an extensive background of creativity. It also sheds a spotlight on a small group of individuals people sometimes ridicule and belittle. After everything I have said, I hope you are convinced enough to download, purchase, and read.
P.S. Every woman needs a best friend, just like Amber. She got your front, back, left, and right side. She is one of those friends where you say try Jesus and not her.
3.5 ⭐️ I decided to take advantage of my KU subscription and try an author I wasn’t familiar with. I chose this book based on the cover and reviews alone and was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the story. The writing was good, and it was pretty fast-paced, which kept me engaged throughout. It was a little spice-heavy in the first half, but aside from that, the overall story was really cute. I’d definitely read more from this author in the future.
This book had potential but Gage being in a relationship for majority of the book took away from his romance/story with Mahasin. The Paris storyline was unnecessary.

I loved the name Mahasin for the MMC—absolutely gorgeous. I also appreciated that the FMC is a Black OB-GYN who actively advocates for Black women. She’s educated, well-paid, and comes from a long line of educated, well-paid family members, which I loved seeing on the page. Gage is also successful, carving out his space in the movie industry and breaking barriers of his own. One element that really intrigued me was that Gage is a 35-year-old virgin. On paper, that’s such a compelling character choice. Unfortunately, the execution didn’t fully work for me. The virgin arc felt underdeveloped—almost like it was included just to say it was there. There are definitely aspects of this book I enjoyed, but as a whole, it didn’t come together for me. I usually love an accidental pregnancy trope, but here I felt like I was on the outside looking in rather than emotionally immersed in the story. Gage was in a relationship for part of the book, and the time he spent supporting Mahasin through her pregnancy wasn’t fully shown on the page. Because of that, I struggled to see the romance develop in a believable way. Yes, Gage it was said was all in—but how do I know that? The moments that should have sold me on them falling in love weren’t fleshed out, which made the emotional connection feel rushed. Overall, the book felt disjointed, and there were several missed opportunities to deepen the story and strengthen the romance. That said, I do see potential here. The foundation is solid, and with more intentional development, I think the author could deliver something much stronger in the future.
I do not usually read novellas because of the pacing and limited character development, but at the beginning of this book the author asked readers to envision the story as an episode you would watch on television. And wow, what an episode it was. I absolutely loved this. The flow and pacing were chef’s kiss, and I was hooked from start to finish.
I loved every character, even Miss Paris. Yes, she did some questionable things, but Gage was definitely playing in her face, so some of her crash outs felt valid. The ending had me on the edge of my seat, and then the author tied everything up beautifully.
And let us talk about Amber because she was the true star of the show. She showed up and showed out for Mahasin time and time again. She is the kind of friend everyone deserves, and I loved her wit and personality. Mahasin and Gage gave us a slow burn you could not get enough of. They gave just enough to keep you wanting more.
I thoroughly enjoyed this bookisode and am really looking forward to what comes next. This was my first Shanette Shanté read, but it definitely will not be my last.
My girl has done it again 😮💨😮💨😮💨 This Christmas story is one I can’t wait for Shanette Shanté to bless the readers with !!! At this point I’m telling yall my girl is on OG status with the ✍🏽 meeting the Characters Gage and Mahasin you are right out the gate feel a connection with them . This Christmas story is going to make you laugh, curse , cry , smile, yell, then cry again lol.
Gage even with what others would considered flaws he was so sure of himself and let’s talk about PAID 🤑🤑
Mahasin was a BOSS 👩🏽⚕️within her own. You all will see her go through heart break 💔 , but not truly break and still handle business 💪🏽🤞🏽. When these two come together 😮💨
But the Miracle you all will witness within these pages 🥹🥹 This story is the true definition of A Christmas Miracle
I’m truly proud of this author and I feel so honored to be trusted with her work …
I had to repeatedly remind myself that I’m a thug 🥲
I didn’t have big expectations going into this book because of the length. Authors sometimes seem to forget the basics like, exposition, rising action, climax, and etc. when writing short books. But my oh my! This book was so heartwarming and gave you everything. I felt so many emotions reading and I was right there with the characters in my head!
Gage knew what he wanted from the minute he saw Mahasin. She needed the time to catch up…he didn’t, despite still entertaining Paris🙄. Sometimes God uses circumstances to bring people together and although this is fiction, it’s still a fact. I also honestly believe that a black man connected to God can bring back what man thinks is dead too! Read your Bible bookies🙏🏾
I loved the successful black men and women in this story and I’m grown so of course I loved the spice😅. 5 stars ⭐️ for this author!
This is the second autistic character I’ve read from this author, and she never misses when it comes to character development and genuine understanding.
I really enjoyed this storyline. There was mess and drama, but not so much that it took away from the heart of the story. It added flavor without overpowering everything else.
My favorite characters? Amber and Gage hands down. Amber was that bestie. Ten toes down, ready to fight and curse somebody out before you even realize you need backup. Every main character deserves an Amber.
And Gage… whew. A man about his business who knew exactly what he wanted and moved accordingly. We love to see it.
Mahasin was a bit too understanding for me personally, but I guess that’s grown-woman behavior and I may not be fully there yet 😅.
All in all — read this one. A time was definitely had.

This book was a ride! I loveeee that Gage was neurodivergent, but it didn't stop him from being the realest and finding true love and happiness with Mahasin. It took them a one night stand, suprise baby, and getting rid of a gold digger to figure out they were meant to be together, but the end result was beautiful. Paris was literal trash and I'm happy Gage got rid of her. Baby Amber is the best friend EVERY girl needs. Her and Mahasin's relationship was one of those soulmate friendships, a true sisterhood. We love to see it. Now, Ms. Shanette Shante, sister, you almost broke my heart in that last chapter, but I'm glad you turned it around, whew! Overall, this book was heartfelt, dramatic, and the humorous moments were well-placed and funny as hell. I could def see this book being a comfort read.
Amazing so far im looking forward to the other couples
What's meant for you will happen when your not looking for it
Really enjoyed reading about this couple both went through but I like how you made Gage a virgin that was totally different Mahasin was laid back OBGYN who was just hoping to find her one But she did one night stand that should have been most definitely giving a chance but I think if she would have gotten out of head because of
Hunter did her trust was off But God said nope got something for you baby girl
I'm so glad finally done with Paris so Kelsey sent her to him see what happens when your intentions aren't good your Karma will come and did he like you tried to play me with holes you poked in them condoms
But my favorite person hands down is Amber she's what real friend is holding it down through it all!!!!!
This book is the introduction to this authors work for me and from the detailed authors note, to the superb word-play with references of THE best decade ever- the 90's, to the plot twist that I didn't see coming before chapter 4 even arrived then another before the halfway mark - this was a top tier reading experience about 2 really likeable main characters who each were amazing in their own right and even shed some relatable insight into the high functioning world of autism. Everything about this one was just really good... except for Paris- cause yeah F her! But My girl Amber ... YESSS! (taps index finger and thumb together over and over) I enjoyed this book from the beginning to Snoh's epilouge and I look forward to reading the next books in the series.
Now, when I read the author say the book would have parts that would be unrealistic she never lied. The birth, the poetic language of the men. I understood Blaque was on the spectrum but his slow acting behind when it came to relationships got on my nerves and who he shoukd not have been with made no sense why he was there and it dragged on much too long and the way he handldd baby mommy with all that poetic mess and actions just to be with red head disturbed my soul to know end. I kept reading just to see if it would continue. It was a wholesome read even with the sex scenes. The making of Snoh was the best part and that was believable. Her best friend was a mess and the best friend a girl could have. There were alot of funny dialogue. I hung in there, though. But not my cup of tea because of the reasons I listed.
And I'm finna camp out and stay a while girl. It's hard to believe this is only your second book. I was hooked from the beginning, loved Mahasin DOWN. So smart and with such a big heart, she deserved all the things. And Gage, my boy was definitely that guy, his overly honest butt. I laughed so much the 🌍 buildinf is amazing and I was so engrossed in the story telling, you did an amazing job.
OMG girl you had me crying. I won't reveal any parts of the book but I loved this so much 💗💗. I went to your catalog and was sick that it was only one other published book lol Its already downloaded to Kindleisha and its up next.😂
I can't wait to see whose up after this. Loved amber and creed down .
Beautiful story! 📖✨ This was my first time reading a book by this author, and it definitely won’t be my last. Mahasin and Gage’s journey begins with an unexpected one-night stand 💫 that turns into something far deeper. Gage is coming out of a dead-end relationship 😔, while Mahasin has just ended her engagement after uncovering painful secrets her fiancé was hiding 💔🔍.
What starts as a fleeting moment ⏳ grows into a meaningful bond 🤍 that pulled them back into each other’s lives. Their connection feels natural and emotional 💞, and watching it develop was truly engaging 📚✨. Despite facing obstacles and challenges along the way, their love proves strong enough to endure 💪🏾❤️. In the end, love prevails, making this story both heartfelt and satisfying 🌟🥰.
Ms. Shanette Shante`, I am so happy that I came across this book. This is such a beautiful story. Hands down my favorite book so far this year.
Gage was a beautiful human being. Smart, kind, handsome, and sexy. I love the fact that he wanted to give himself to someone he wouldn't regret. And then there is Muhasin, a beautiful, boss OBGYN, who had the worst luck with men until Gage.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Absolutely fantastic!!!
This read a from a new to me author an I enjoyed every moment…to me the book read like a conversation & I enjoyed it so much….Gage was so unapologetic about who he was but he found his person he knew it was only for the moment but he had his own as if skills that he put on Ms Mahasin who in turned took his special gift… now there was just enough drama and some messiness from Gages significant others ….now I will say they both had friends that held it down and were just honest and funny I ready to read Jason’s story
It takes awhile to find the perfect book. I am pleased that I found this by accident. This is an amazing story. It was everything, and I am an instant fan. The characters were well-developed. Amber provided the right amount of realness and comic relief. We all need someone like her as our ride or die.
This is a complete story that warmed my heart and soul. I look forward to more. This was by far, the best book I've read in awhile. I plan to add it to my library and read it over and over again.
Being completely honest I don’t know what I expected from this book. I chose it because it was a new author and the cover was so cute. Let’s just say I am GLAAAAD I chose to read it. This story had me cackling from start to finish! Between Amber and Gage I don’t know who had my stomach hurting more with their smart mouths. Overall though the story was beautiful, a little fast paced like Shanette said it would be but nothing too crazy. I thoroughly enjoyed this story all the way through and can’t wait to see what Shanette Shante comes up with next.
It was a beautiful Christmas story. I love how Gabe was able to get his love. He went through life looking for the right one. He found the one but she got away until she found out she was pregnant. Amber was the best friend. She was a ride or die friend. Amber was funny, and I laughed throughout the whole book. I glad I picked this book up. It was a breath of fresh air.
This book was absolutely enjoyable from start to finish. It kept my attention the entire time and flowed beautifully. There were genuine moments of laughter that felt natural and well-placed, and the character development was especially strong. Each character felt real and thoughtfully written, which made the story even more engaging. Overall, it was a great read that I truly enjoyed and would recommend.
OMG, this was such a beautiful story. This was a new to me author and the first I’ve ever read by her and I’m totally locked in for more. Gage and Mahasin gave hope that it could happen for any one of the us although this is a fictional story. It was a very sweet message and delivery during this holiday season as I fully read this Christmas Eve 2025!!!! A perfect holiday setup
Snohomish in December (The After 5 Collection Book 1)
This bookisode by first-time author Shanette Shante is lovely. Gage & the doctor had the right timing for a relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these two characters as well as her bestie Amber. Gage's buddies were pure jocksters as well as lifelong friends. I am not sure who we will be reading about in the next After 5 Collection. But, bring on The After 5 Collection bookisode.
I read this book in one sitting!! Let me just give the author her flowers but making the MMC what he was!! That man knew his worth without being overt the top!! I loved it. The FMC I loved her too but her bestie was the life of the party!! This was a different type of read in my opinion but it did not disappoint!!
First read by this Author ..she did not disappoint! Loved the storyline and MMC/FMC was everything, I smiled while reading the whole book. Except for when it came to carrot top😂 she worked my nerves, so glad Gage left her where she was. Amber was such a dope friend and funny. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me, Shanette Shante💐
So I can definitely say I enjoyed the storyline and characters. Good spice, swoon worthy moments, lighthearted and tension. One night stand turned more. The only thing I’ll say is I dislike they didn’t officially get together til the end of the book. They belonged together so I hate that it didn’t happen til the end. Otherwise I enjoyed and would recommend.
Wow this book was everythingggg I didn't know I needed. From the plot twist in the beginning to the gut wrenching miracle towards the end *chefs kiss* that ending had me balling. Such a beautiful story and I can't wait to see what comes next. May all the girlies be blessed with a Gage in their lives
This is my first read by this author. I absolutely LOVED this book! My favorites were the characters, and the best friend deserved a starring role for sure. Wait until you get to the hospital scene 🤣🤣. The author did an excellent job in telling the story of a one night stand gone right! Combining the sexy parts with humor, in my book is chef’s kiss.
Listen this book was very different from what I’m use to. The author did give the warning that it was going to be very fast paced and it was. But I don’t feel like I missed out on anything. A one night stand that turned into a love that is very consuming and heartfelt. Very good book, worth the read.
