A Magical Entanglement

Rate this book
Elizabeth Bennet’s intuitive magic connects her to a land that is dying. Fitzwilliam Darcy commands the elements with unmatched control. From their first meeting, they clash.

His arrogance earns her disapproval, while he finds himself inexplicably drawn to her lively spirit, even as her untamed magical power represents everything he disdains.

As a magical Blight poisons the realm, threatening to destroy England entirely, they are compelled into a marriage of duty. Only by combining their opposing powers can they hope to save the nation. Now, bound by a magic they don't understand, Darcy and Elizabeth must overcome their prejudices to wield a power that could save them all.

A bond forged in duty just might ignite a love strong enough to conquer the darkness.

This is a Pride and Prejudice variation set in a Regency England with a magical undercurrent. It features a slow burn romance.

enjoyable

A very enjoyable read! It is always a pleasure to read of a Wickham redeemed and this time with he and Georgiana committed to each other. The magic in the story was an interesting twist. With all going on in the book it would have been nice to be a little longer.

Exceeded Expectations!

If you love pride and prejudice, magic, not having to deal with Mr Collins or lady Catherine, and a Mr Wickham who finds reformation and redemption, combined with a compelling page turning narrative that makes it all very believable; This is the book for you!

I really wanted to rate this one a full 5 stars; but towards the end the main conflict became a bit over extended, not so much in page length, but in repetitive action scenes. The important battles were extensive and the description of those still interesting, but they didn’t flow as well as the emotional parts of the book.

The conclusion and tying of loose ends seemed rushed, too quick, and left me, the reader, craving more — a nice extended epilogue felt sorely missing.

Given that, the magical plot was well crafted; the emotional parts, the romance and the relationship conflicts between characters was deliciously rounded and very talentedly merged with the supernatural aspect. The storytelling is good and the rythm kept my interest until the end.

I look forward to reading more by this author!

Remarkable combination

In this most satisfying confluence of the forced marriage trope with the magical P&P trope, Ms Silver has built upon the traditional (?) Darcy magical strength/Lizzy undisciplined magical power concept by not only delineating their excruciatingly slow efforts to merge their powers but also by adding the unexpected but crucial wild cards of Georgiana and Wickham and their own unique if previously underutilized magical capabilities.

This was better than I expected

The magic was painted masterfully. I could visualized it in every scene. There was a happy ending even for Wickham. But it was not a mussy unrealistic fairytale perfection. The feelings between ODC was real as we got to see the growth of their relationship. I dislike when author tell you what happened instead of letting you see it play out. The action scene were vivid. I truly enjoyed this.

Magical Entanglement

Although Elizabeth and Darcy are married in the first chapter it takes until chapter 23 before they even kiss. Then it takes until chapter 30 before they do the deed. Between #1 and #23, the story is mental angst. That is a waste of text. Of course if you enjoy mental angst, this story is for you. I liked the plot and the ending.
