Imagine learning as a child how cruel love could be. And from that lesson, as well as being raised in a hood that teaches you; ‘love will get you killed’, it hardens you. Turning you into something sharp. Something guarded. Something…Dangerous. But what if fate has a sense of humor? Allowing you a chance to relearn the lesson of love in it’s true form? And despite your attempts to fight it at every turn…it won’t let you go. Circling back to the very thing you swore you’d never feel again. You can try and fight love. Push it away. Bury it. Hell, suffocate if you want… But love doesn’t listen to logic. It chooses who it wants. How it wants. When it wants. Even between people who shouldn’t fit…but do. The crazy thing about a love like that? You don’t just fall into it. You surrender to it. And love...the kind that changes everything— Yeah, that kinda love…makes Loving Dangerous.
Let me just say this… I was not expecting this book to grab me the way it did. Kold really lived up to that name because the way this story froze me in place? Whew. I was locked in. I found myself invested in every character, like everyone had their own lane, their own mess, and all of it kept me turning the pages wanting more.
And Lyric? She was the star of the show without even trying. The way she carried the spotlight so effortlessly had me rooting for her the whole time.
And Danger… listen. He is the definition of knowing what you want and going after it with full force. The energy he brought? Unmatched.
That’s all I’m gonna give without spoiling anything, but just know this one had me in a chokehold.
Fro this to be your first romance this was beautifully written, I still felt the grit that your books usually has as well. It didn’t feel like you had to switch up your normal style for this book and I loved that! Danger and Lyrics story was so deep and heartfelt and it really felt like I was talking to my homeboy about his first crush. Erica & Spook Story was a just as heartfelt and even had a little drama in it that took it up a notch. I hope you not gonna run off and leave us without giving my other homegirl a lil love of her own. lol ! But overall amazing read !!
I’ve been meaning to read a book by Kold for a minute, and I’m glad I finally did! I was in a reading slump and on the verge of giving up on the genre but this book changed my mind. This book was heartfelt but there was still grit and Kold wrote it in a way that made it feel real. He made me care about the characters and I was heavily invested in their lives. I can’t wait to see if some of the other characters get stories too. I loved the way that Danger loved Lyric and I feel every girl [that wants that] deserves to have that, someday. 🥰 10/10 would highly recommend and would read again 😁
Let me tell you! I’m not sure what I was expecting when I heard that a man was writing an urban romance but I wasn’t expecting this! I love that we get to see multiple relationships form in different povs. I thought it was cool how there were shout outs of other authors throughout the book (the character are also readers!) as well as the author mentioning himself through the characters, as if the characters was talking to him in real time. Ugh I need it to be a series!
I love a good love story with some drama. What I liked the most was the romantic development between the main characters Lyric and Danger. I like to see a romance place out from start to finish and this book did just that. Recommend highly for an urban romance that still has that drama and action but focused more on the bonding and love. So cute!
Kold truly snapped on this story. I was privileged to ARC read Loving Dangerous where Brandon and Lyric were chikdhood friends and neighbors. What started as cute crush was a planned future in Brandon's eyes but when a unplanned interception gets in the way he shuts down and just removes himself from the friendship with Lyric. Fast forward a chance encounter leads to a love story that was years in the making. This was a beautiful second chance love that just warmed my soul. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great love story with urban elements..
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this new release from KOLD. Loving Dangerous is a second chance romance that did not disappoint! Dangerous & Lyric’s love story will have you reminiscing about your 1st Love. The one that makes you sing “Next Lifetime” when they cross your mind. This story also brings the drama as well! Murder, cheating, the Feds AND a brewing love triangle - or should I say quadrant, are all in play amongst the trauma Danger & Lyric are trying to navigate on their way back to each other. I highly recommend you grab a copy when it becomes available 12/21/25
This story was absolutely breathtaking and had me grinning like a fool, because I couldn’t help but drift back to when my husband and I first met in the 2nd grade. As I followed Danger and Lyric’s journey, I found myself replaying those sweet, simple moments from my own childhood—the way my husband used to save me a seat in the cafeteria at lunch, protect me during dodgeball like it was a full-contact sport, and sit in front of me while I tugged on his ducktail 😂. Now, twelve years into a happy marriage, this book made me remember how innocent friendship can quietly grow into lifelong love, even when life and time try their hardest to pull two people apart.
Danger truly believed he’d fumbled his one true love, while Lyric was completely clueless as to why her best friend suddenly stopped speaking to her, which pushed her into the arms of a man who was never worthy of her in the first place. Watching her chase a false sense of belonging while Danger battled guilt, fear, and the weight of his past decisions was both heartbreaking and beautiful, because Kold shows how love can be messy, flawed, and still worth fighting for when hearts are willing to do the work.
I am extremely proud of how he intertwined his characters from the Ducati Mob universe, weaving them into this story in a way that felt seamless, nostalgic, and intentional rather than forced or gimmicky. He always pays homage to the amazing Jahquel J—his GOAT, my Worldbuilding Wizard—and I’m proud he’s studying her craft and growing his own ability to build such vivid, layered worlds as well.
He swears he doesn’t “do romance,” yet this book delivered all the feels with the perfect equation: trauma + street + scandal = a beautifully gritty love story that lingers long after the last page. I am praying he blesses us with more—Erica, Spook, Larissa, Bonni, Strict, and Jah all deserve their time in the spotlight, and I am completely enamored with these characters and this world he’s built. Five stars without hesitation—job well done, Kold, and I’m extremely proud of you. 💜
It is dangerous when childhood wounds harden into emotional armor, especially when love is the first casualty.
Brandon, known later in life as Danger, has been fixated on Lyric since a childhood moment on a school bus sparked a connection that felt innocent and permanent. He did everything a boy in puppy love is supposed to do, showing up, caring deeply, and believing his feelings would be enough. They were not. When Lyric falls for Lamont instead, the heartbreak reshapes Brandon entirely, pushing him to close himself off from love altogether.
Years later, Brandon has fully become Danger, and Lyric is now a successful attorney who returns from New York to grieve. Reconnecting with friends pulls her back into familiar spaces, but it also places her in the middle of a chain of events that feel anything but accidental. As things spiral, Lyric is forced to confront why she was meant to return to where it all began. The story keeps readers questioning whether the love she and Danger once shared can withstand time, regret, and the people they have both become.
Author KOLD pulls readers in from the very first chapter. His writing is vivid, grounded, and emotionally accessible, making the characters feel familiar long before their full stories unfold. While the cast is expansive, each storyline remains clear and engaging. Notably, the Spook and Erica arc stood out even more than the central romance, adding an unexpected layer of depth to the narrative.
What makes this novel especially impressive is the context behind it. KOLD is a street storyteller at heart, and this romance was written after readers challenged him to step into a different lane. He rose to that challenge and delivered something honest, heartfelt, and effective. The story is filled with gems that feel earned, moments shaped by wisdom and lived experience rather than convention. This is a strong, confident turn into romance, and one that deserves recognition.
Now listen… when I tell you this was Kold’s first time writing romance and it hit THIS HARD? Baby, give me 14 more immediately. Because WHAT?!
I had the chance to read this as an ARC, and it was so good that I went right back and reread it once it officially dropped. That’s how you know it stuck. The idea that an elementary school crush gone left could freeze Danger’s heart for years? Yeah… that pain ran deep.
And then here comes Lyric, popping back into his life fresh off a divorce and learning how to move through her new normal. Just like that, that icebox he called a heart started to thaw. Slowly, but surely. And once Danger realized what it was? His whole mindset was very much “when you know, you know.” No hesitation. No confusion. Just action.
What really impressed me was that Kold didn’t just center the story on Danger and Lyric. He took the time to build out the other relationships too, and they mattered. Every character felt intentional. There was love, loss, drama, healing, and just the right amount of messiness to keep things real.
This book honestly made me even more proud to be a Kold fan. He continues to show his range, and if we’re being real? 2025 was on fire with every single release.
This challenge was nothing but amazing. KOLD asked used to giving something write about and this beautiful book came out of it. The life of these friends had so many turns, but love wins in the end. I love how Danger and Lyric had to go through life changes to find their love and happiness. Love and happiness will make you do wrong and make you do right "Al Green"! In life, you may go through lessons and explore the journey. It is wonderful when you find that one person who will be there for you, choose you, and know that you are their true love. In life, you go through sad moments, but when you have your true love to stand with you. There is nothing but grace to carry you through. I was excited how KOLD tied his other book characters to this book. It was a great link to allow others to want to check out the rest of his catalog. I am proud that KOLD stepped out of his comfort zone and wrote this book.. I hope KOLD finds what he wrote about. I was told by late grandma that there is someone out there for everyone. You just have to find that one person. Congratulations on another outstanding book!!!
I read this a an ARC & For this to be Kolds first Romance I must say he didn’t do bad at all! I loved the interconnection of the romance, street, & overall storyline! Danger aka Brandon was at the incline of his life, business, etc.; BUT his love life was null and void until a blast from his past came and shook the entire damn table! Lyric is fresh out a divorce & back home in her hometown with no goal besides rebuilding her life until she “runs into” Brandon and her life legit changes forever! I’m not a 2nd chance girly, however, I was all up and through this book anticipating the moment when the love spark would explode & baby it def exploded with pettiness, realness, & a whole lotta pent up anger 🤣!
Would you rekindle with a childhood love? *kicking my feet screaming* 🥰 This story was amazing. I've been hooked for the past couple of days. I love how the author started the story by taking us way back to when the main characters were in elementary school, giving us an explanation to how everything started. The focus was on more than one couple, and there were multiple POVs so i was able to see what everybody had going on, which made it even better. It also had some suspense and action going on. The spice was light, not too much and honestly, i liked that because it let the plot shine even more. I was jamming to the music referenced in the book. It brought the settings and vibes to life. There was never a dull moment. 100% RECOMMEND!
This second chance romance was everything and more! You had a man who needed to heal and a woman who was able to heal him and feelings that never died. For this to be Kold’s first urban romance he did a great job capturing the emotions of the heart between the MMC and FMC , this book made you see love on a new way, when someone really wants you they make it happen there isn’t excuses or doubt and Danger knew what he wanted and and what he wanted was Lyric. I’m holding Kold expands the story to Ericka and Spook I would love to see their love story unfold!
Let’s just say I loved this book. I ignored my whole house from start to finish. I really liked how Danger knew what he wanted, and Lyric didn’t downplay her feelings either. It felt real because deep down, their feelings mirrored each other.
I’m curious to see what happens with Larissa, but honestly, I hope she ends up with Strict. It just makes more sense to me. He gives off real lover boy vibes, like he’d always treat her right and never second guess her. Truthfully, she already has him...she just need to get out of her own way.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this. Your personality came through in your writing, and there was never a dull moment.
I had the pleasure of ARC reading Loving Dangerous and it was a time! At a young age Brandon knew exactly who he wanted to do life with until that person chose someone else. Hence how Danger was born with the motto “don’t love these hoes”. This story showed that we have to face our past in order to step into our future and that is exactly what Danger & Lyric do in this book. A man of few words but he absolutely stands on whatever he says!! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the crew has going on.
I see the potential. I enjoyed it, I really did. I was just thrown off a few times with parts you must’ve forgotten about in the beginning of the book. Like your father getting killed and your dad asking girls to be his lady as if your mom wasn’t in your life. Also I was conflicted about all the mixed feelings with everyone. The 2 girls liking friends and they know about it but still pursuing. Other than that I liked the book. I read it in a few hrs. I usually don’t finish if I can’t get into it.
This was a first read by this author and I enjoyed this book. Shoutout to harm the bookjunkie for the recommendation.
This book has a lot of characters but I enjoyed them all.
Friendship that developed in elementary school stood the test of time. Who said you don’t know who your true love is in grade school.
This book was good. I enjoyed how the characters developed. Decision you make as a kid can affect others is ways you are clueless about. But it was refreshing that even after many years the love developed on the playground was never lost.
This is my first book by this author and it will not be my last. This urban romance was very well written. I would have loved more of Lyric and Dangers' story I do enjoy the way that the story was told. He was very descriptive without it being wordy. Erica and Spook's story was more developed and I enjoyed watching it play out. This book was a great introduction to this author and I can't wait to read more of his work.
This story right here was so good I wasn’t ready for it to end. The way this author wrote this book kept you wanting to keep reading and see what happens next. For the author to not like romance he did his big on this story with Danger and Lyric. I’m ready to read another romance book from him!
“Even the planets find themselves lined back up with their sun eventually”
Ain’t nothing like a hood ninja who can make you swoon!
This book had it all. A lil love, a lil hood, a lil unhinged, a lil funny, a lil smut. First read by this author it will NOT be my last. I only pray we get more romance. Because this was it right here.
I can honestly say…yes this book Wes definitely worth the read… The way you told the story, how true love is possible for real the 2nd time around.. I really “hope” 🤞 you consider giving us another urban romance book in 2026…now I gotta go backwards and get caught up with Ducati Mob!
For Kold to say he doesn’t do romance he killed this. Danger and Lyric’s romance is full of stubbornness and pride but they eventually get out of their own way. The multiple viewpoints add depth and drama to the story. Kold you earned a reader in me.
Great storyline. This was my first read by KOLD and I’ll definitely be back for more. His introduction into urban romance checked all the boxes comedy, drama, chemistry and a woman being loved correctly in the end ❤️.
This book was different from what I am used to from this author, but it still did not disappoint. It still gave the same street vibe that Kold is known for with a nice layer of romance and he was able to bring both of those together in a very beautiful way.
Listen this is my first read by Kold and whew it won’t be my last. Story telling top tier, romance oh so precious! You won’t regret picking up this book
There’s something special about a romance novel written by a black man! This story highlighted young/first love so beautiful, yet so real. Danger knew from the very start what/who he wanted. They say when a man knows, he knows! Heartbreak hit him early and stuck around to shape him into a man who was hard and closed off to love. But he always had that soft spot for the girl who first stole his heart. Lyric was “just a girl” falling for the boy who chose her, not fully understanding what that meant, as many of us often do! I saw myself in Lyric, dodging the boy who had a crush on me, when boys still had cooties in my eyes! I loved the character development, multiple POVs and pace of this book. This is a novel that mentions characters from previous books as well as hints at future works. As my first introduction to the authors work, I was not disappointed! If you are looking for an urban romance from a males perspective that includes first love, heartbreak, second chances, with a side of the streets... pick up this book! You won’t be disappointed!
