Watts & Parker are back and this time things are getting hot … and heavy. When an up-and-coming fitness model is murdered, Watts and Parker are stumped when there are no clear suspects or clues. That doesn't stop them from cracking the case — but not before they crash a couple cars, scale some scaffolding, and spill some milkshakes. When Parker goes undercover as a fitness model to catch the killer, things really start to shape up.
Okay, Dead Weight had NO business being this fun, this clever, and this chaotic in the best way possible. Watts and Parker are the kind of detective duo I didn’t know I needed in my life, sharp one-liners, actual plot tension, and more twisty turns than a rollercoaster designed by a caffeine-fueled screenwriter.
There’s action (yes, scaffolding was scaled). There’s undercover shenanigans (Parker as a fitness model? Give that man an Oscar). And of course, there are milkshakes, because what’s crime-solving without a little dairy-based drama?
If you like your murder mysteries with humor, heart, and just a bit of absurdity, this one’s for you. Dylan White clearly knows how to craft a story, and I honestly wish more crime novels took this kind of risk.
Now excuse me while I go side-eye every fitness influencer online and wait very impatiently for the next Watts & Parker case.
