When in the course of authoring events, it becomes necessary for one author to dissolve the contractual bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the publishers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Commerce entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

 


We hold these truths to be self-evident, that some stuff happened and Jacob purchased the rights to Freelancers of Neptune, because he was its creator and he wanted to. 


Also, we also hold these truths to be self-evident, that Edie Skye is a different author, because she exists in a totally separate, but equal, body than Jacob.


Furthermore, the following truths are also super important and apply in equal measure as an addendum to the aforementioned self-evident truths and that they possess a self-evidentiary nature that is not lessened because they have been listed in a different paragraph, possibly because the author of this sentence let it get wildly out of control and is now hanging on for dear life as it stampedes its way through any existant, and/or non-existant, rules of sentence structure that that triy to contain it and just keeps going and going ignoring all sense of common decency and reason, trampling all in its path, though it does seem to be getting tired now.  (Whew, I was getting a bit worried there!)  Moving on, these creators have endowed this book with certain unalienable characteristics, that among these are sexy catgirls, swishing tails, sentient coffee, hijinks, shenanigans, more spiciness than a hot sauce competition, attempts to make kittens, and a long-suffering captain who is greatly put upon.

 

I think we can all agree, and even if we can’t I’m the one writing this review and I’m likely much taller, sexier, smarter and definitely far more humble than you, that this combination of characteristics can only result in a fast-paced enjoyable read that will leave you flabbergasted, shocked, amazed, stunned and jaw agape as you find your self relentlessly consuming the words of each chapter like they were the only food and water you’ve seen as you staggered through the desert that was your life, before you found this book.  So why not just plop down, on the thoughtfully provided deckchair, at the oasis that this book so masterfully represents?  


Put simply, this book is better than an 80 pack of Jimmy Dean sausages!

 

I feel I should address the sexy catgirl, swishing tails, spiciness, and attempted kitten making in the room.  To do this I’ll paraphrase a summary I wrote in a review for a different Edie Skye series.  “I recommend you give this book a try and if, like me, you're not into the whole "Harem" thing, use your fingers and just turn the pages until those sections are done.  I submit that is what fingers were made for.”


In summary, of my summary, buy this book!

I was a little worried about this one, when I found that the original book wasn't written by Edie Skye; it was published as hard SF by Baen Books, noted alt-right publisher of John Ringo and other pro-Trump lunatics. Apparently, Edie Skye later added several plot points as well as the sexy parts. I suspect that she also added and modified dialogue throughout, as snappy dialogue and memorable characters aren't generally what science fiction of this type is known for. She also changed the title.

Surprisingly, though, it works! The editions are skillful enough that the seams between the two author's are only visible occasionally: sometimes the actions or info-dumps are broken up by something funny or wholesome that has Edie's fingers all over it. I worried it would just be space opera with a few sex chapters inserted, or that it would shift tones wildly. It does neither. It's full of fun and interesting characters, good worldbuilding, and lots of action and adventure, with just the right amount of spice.

If you're a fan of Titan mage or other books by Edie Skye, don't let the co-authorship scare you away. It's still got everything you love from those other series: characters that feel real, and spicy romance that works. If you're a fan of Jacob Holo, I really have no idea how you'll find this, because I haven't read any of his other work. But I wouldn't mind more from this partnership.

I finished this book, and it wasn't bad.

The book is set somewhere in the distant future, and there are various "deviations" of humanity inhabiting various "rings" around planets throughout most of the solar system. The MC has a spaceship that operates out of one of the Neptunian ring. His crew consists of 3 different Jovian (Jupitar) androids that all have the same personality that is recovered and recycled if a body "dies". He takes a job to recover a stolen spaceship, and from there, his life spirals wildly out of control.

The LIs in this book are all catgirls. The first is the thief he catches, the second comes from her world, and the third is one of the Aikos (androids) that inhabits a neko-body. Apparently, the MC now has a type. The first two are immediately enamored of the MC and waste no time whatsoever jumping him in bed. The android joins in as soon as she can get into the neko-body. The relationship building is nearly non-existent.

One quirk is that this book was originally written by Jacob Holo under a different title. It has now been republished with Edie Skye adding in more spice and a little bit more content. What makes that interesting is that every single measurement given in the book is in the metric system, until the first sex scene, where "inches" are suddenly the unit of measure for certain body parts. Clearly, Edie Skye didn't get the metric memo, or didn't care.

I might read a sequel, but only if I'm bored.

Spicy sci-fi adventure!

Captain Nathaniel Kade needs jobs to keep the Neptune Belle flying, but he should have thought twice before accepting a contract with the cat girl and her friend to find an ancient piece of God-tech. Now, they are being pursued across the universe by murderous, multi-bodied agents of the Jovian Everlife amid blazing battles. Why did he ever accept this job from a sizzling-hot, catgirl with a great body and a swishy tail?? Oh yeah…that’s why!

This is a seat-of-your-pants space adventure with drool-worthy interludes! The Jovian agents are psychotic, and the God-tech is terrifying. Great reading! I received an advance copy, but my review is honest and voluntary.

great adventure, great chemistry

The cover tells you exactly what to expect from this book, but only part of it. There is also a great adventure tale here, with a fascinating setting that is at the same time very grounded in hard science and incredibly fantastical.

I thought this was two decent books that unfortunately kind of clashed. Every time we start pondering the mysteries of the universe there's suddenly a cat-girl with her trousers falling down; every time I got into the silly adventure we'd abruptly go off on gravitic coefficients or whatever. It was too much gear changing for me.
