About the author

Hiro Mashima (Jap: 真島ヒロ) is a Japanese manga artist.

He gained success with his first serial Rave, published in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 1999 to 2005. His best-selling work, Fairy Tail, published in the same magazine from 2006 to 2017, became one of the best-selling manga series with over 72 million copies in print. Mashima began the currently ongoing Edens Zero in 2018.

Fairy Tail won the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen manga in 2009, and Mashima was given the Harvey Awards International Spotlight award in 2017 and the Fauve Special Award at the 2018 Angoulême International Comics Festival.

This volume feels very intense from beginning to end, as we follow each character in different fights all across the country. The climax of the story is slowly approaching, and I can’t wait to see where it will lead us. I’ll admit, I sometimes forget the plot and why we’re fighting some of these guys, so the half chapter summary of what’s happening in the middle of this volume was much needed. I wish the fights made a bit more sense, but a lot of characters and even more new antagonists thrown together feels a bit like a mayhem.

Considering the fights themselves, we’re getting to the good fights I love to see from Fairy Tail. The characters group together to fight their enemies, and this is my favorite kind of battle. Some people will complain about the power of friendship, but I eat it up every single time. So seeing our 100 years quest group, our Fairy Tail team B AND Oracion Seis themselves felt very nostalgic to me. Each character is individually surpassing themselves, and all together they form insane teams wrecking havoc in their enemy lines. I do like that some of the battles resulted to loss from our heroes, since it was one of my complains that everything felt a bit too easy for them.
