Points I like and should remind myself. 002
Interestingly, the book is divided into two main parts. The first half is Mattsuura san's guidelines for oneself. One would be familiar with many of them if you have read his other books. Surprisingly, I find it refreshing his guidelines for staff at his second hand bookstore, Cow Books, carried in the second half of the book. The rules are all driven out of his respect for customers, but his attention to details is impeccable: From not passing in front of customers, to late shift staff taking good care of book shelves to make it easier for morning shift peers. Japanese is known for their impeccable service, but there seldom is a book explaining both the rationale and the actual execution. Operators of the service industry overseas looking to improve their staff quality would benefit hugely from this little number.
