In this book, letters gleaned from a voluminous correspondence over the past four decades, is a distillation of a life of one mind - that man's world and how he has viewed it. The first group of letters, written largely to priest-acquaintances around the world, is entitled 'Religion and Morality'. Here is expressed the author's profound and unwavering faith. The second group, 'The Social Order', reaches out to the lives that have crossed his path in a personal, affecting way. The third group, 'History and Politics and War', concerns itself with problems of race, foreign policy, and the political process in our country and abroad. The letters are published as a record to enlighten the unknown generations of my family to come; but they are much more. It is an evocative reminder of the volatile and unpredictable times through which we have lived, and a stimulating challenge to evaluate the events for ourselves. The author went to Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service and Master of Arts degrees.
