I didn’t notice the poor decision making the mc has in the first book. It really stood out glaringly in this one though. From start to finish, and especially the last decision, the mc would make terrible decisions and then the author would justify those bad decisions explaining why. It detracted from the good adventure this has become.
This is a good book, but at times the plot got bogged down in the MC’s crafting experiments. It could use both more action and more interpersonal interactions. Also the MCs development is pretty annoying. He keeps acquiring random skills that don’t directly contribute to his power or complement each other. It feels like the author is just throwing darts at the wall.
I *loved* the first book in this series. Great characters, great worldbuilding, cool magic System, good pacing, engaging plot. It really had it all. This book seems to continue in the same train, and may be just as good for readers who can get past the MC deceiving a barely sentient creature to use its body as a test/torture subject. It read very much as "I promised a happy dog that I just wanted it to go on a walk with me and then we would come home and play with its family, only to force it into endless dogfights until its body collapses."
I just couldn't move past that one. DNF.

So people naturally want to know what’s the best thing about this book? It’s literally a continuation of the last book which you should be still has a great MC. The story gets even better somehow impossible nope gets even better. Now you get to see more of this world and other worlds. You have to remember just where the MC came from being so small so insignificant still not that big but growing. That sounds the greatest things about this series. The author really shows you character growth. With skills with concepts with ideas and the world expands. Perhaps the best thing about this book isn’t necessarily this book. It’s that literally the next book it’s already up for pre-order. How many of us who follow the series have wondered when is the next book coming? Well guess what the next book for this series you can literally find out when it’s gonna be ready. Bravo to the author for getting us out the door to us bravo to the fans who are screaming from the rooftops because this book is just that good. To those of you who are wondering should I read it? Yep, you should and then come back and leave a review like we’re doing
Message to the author
I always leave a message to the author for the books that I love. This is a series that I love. I follow online I subscribe on Patreon and everything. Bravo congratulations that’s really all I have to say because I don’t think there are any improvements that need to be made to the story. I’m gonna continue to shout from the rooftops and hopefully get more people on board because everybody I know who read the first book they couldn’t wait for the second book .
Great fun reading the book. And might I add how refreshing it was to read from such a mature perspective. For instance I am sick of the way other authors in this genre make their characters agonize over having to kill people, even if they were defending themselves. They create a strong character then spend 5 pages showing them traumatized - how weak!
2.5 Stars. Terrible structure makes reading a chore.
You've heard of starting your book with a hook? Well how about starting your sequel with a new character, with no connections to the prior story, as she and her dad buy a hat shop. I had to check carefully to make sure I was reading the right book.
This choice set the tone and things didn't improve much from there. Many chapters could be removed entirely as they were bad-guy POVs used to prove that the bad-guys were evil... which was already evident. Then there was the heavy handed preaching about the evils of autocracy, slavery, and misogynistic patriarchy. There was page after unnecessary page of these lectures.
My last note is about the violence. It started to edge into porn territory. Vengeance is all well and good, but there should be limits.
A bit mixed unfortunately. It was good when they were doing anything other than the crafting, but that stuff went on far too long. A bit is fine, but I didn't think we needed to hear about every unsuccessful attempt in quite so much detail, or even the successful attempts. Who cares if he can sew a shirt? I can sew a blinking shirt. It's boring! Hope the next one's more like the first one.
This book has the start of the type of adventuring/learning that makes this series so good, if the first book was a bit too simple, this book will prepare you for what’s coming. If you like this style at all by the end, the next few books kick it up a notch each time and it gets better and better.
Overall premise is great. Writing is ok. But, the way the story is progressing is abysmal. There are so many items the main characters struggle to achieve and progress, but nothing worthwhile actually comes of it. If there are two paths to take in any part of the story, the author will always take the least interesting. Progress is absolutely dreadful. I won’t be progressing to the next books. Waited too long, read too much for there to be any redemption. Sorry.
I'm really enjoying this series. A nicely different take on this genre. Fun characters and developing universe. Hoping this series continues for several more books at the least.
It's better than the first one, but the plot armor and mc are grating. It's easy to binge, it always feels like there is something happening, even the exposition is decent. I'll give the next one a try.
Reading this on RR this far - will probably transition over to KU as I fail to keep up with everything on RR and this is worth making sure the author gets some money for my reading.
The story is still continuing strong. Lots of new developments. Author is keeping the story fresh even though we are in book 2. Can't wait to read the next one
