Everett Atwood has always been a disappointment to his wealthy family. He's gay, for one thing. He's a teacher, for another. What's more, he's depressingly single. Honestly, their list of complaints could go on and on - but now, his older brother is getting married, and he's been given a plus one. They're expecting him to bring the boyfriend he told them about. The only problem is that boyfriend doesn't exist. Everett is getting desperate - desperate enough to pay someone to go with him. Anyone.

Enter Maddox, Everett's best friend, ready to save the day. His mechanic is tattooed, Irish, and utterly unsuitable.

In other words, he's perfect.

I saw an ad for this book and thought it was right up my alley, I f’love the fake relationship trope! Everett is going home for his brother’s wedding and needs a boyfriend so as not to look ‘pathetic’ to his parents. His best friend,Maddox offered to do it but they agreed that wouldn’t work since they are not only childhood friends but, Maddox is a famous athlete and it would cause a scandal. Mads suggests asking his mechanic friend who he’s absolutely certain Everett’s parents would hate.

Jace meets with Everett and both men are smitten. Jace agrees to accompany him for the week. On the way, they get to know each other and figure out how they will navigate the week. Jace lays his accent on thick and even plays up being beneath them. This part was quite entertaining. Ev’s parents and his brother (the groom) were atrocious and while I hated nearly every scene they were in, I also enjoyed the way Jace purposely got under their skin.

A lot of the scenes were entertaining but unnecessary. HOWEVER, had they not been included, I may have wanted more so… anyway. The wedding was very entertaining and when Ev & Jace finally laid into the parents, it was fantastic!

There were WAY TOO MANY times that Ev or Jace felt they weren’t worthy of the other or before they actually became a couple they both spent too much time wondering, does he feel the same?. One or two scenes like this is understandable but it just kept happening.

All in all, I did enjoy the book but lowered the rating because of all the repetition and dragging out of the ‘does he feel the same’ drama.

This book was recommended to me by the author and after finding out it contained some of my fave tropes- fake dating and forced proximity- I dived right in. I really enjoyed the first half of this book. Everett needed a fake boyfriend to attend his brother’s wedding with his horrible family so Jace comes to the rescue. Jace and his shenanigans were hilarious and kept me entertained. They were my favorite thing about this book. Then it got sappy. Like reallllllly sappy. Add instalove and constant pet names and it became a bit much for me. I did finish the book but I definitely found myself skimming a lot, especially the last few chapters. The spice was good but the conversations during were odd, very polite and seemed out of place. It was all very dramatic, overly so at times.
