Cassandrea is no stranger to bloodshed. As a siren bound to serve the black dragon king Valderan, her hands have known war, loss… and betrayal. Now, she faces a task far more taxing than any she must interrogate the enemy's commander – General Rheon Nightshade.
But Entirie is a kingdom splintering at the seams. As the civil war between Valderan and his rebellious son Terren rages on, old alliances begin to fracture.
In the silence between battles, Cassandrea must decide what price she is willing to pay and what matters her loyalty or the truth.
I honestly don’t have the right words to do this book justice. We are immediately sent back into the world with our favorite and not so favorite characters. Cass is out for vengeance and still that firecracker we all love. As the story progresses she is torn between loyalty to her king and loyalty to a man whom she helped torture. I was team Kerr until Rheon made his appearance once again. Kerr is still here and still delivering his epic one liners and truths. Rheon has been captured and tortured however he refuses to give up for a couple reasons one of them being “her.” This man goes through hell and yet still has a way with words and finds a way not only into Cassandrea’s heart but into mine as well. I could praise on him all day but that would mean spoilers. Some amazing growth happens with the characters, new alliances built, new battles, new relationships formed and some absolutely incredible world building. This fantasy book sucks you in and leaves you feeling every emotion. Think Throne of Glass with a dash of game of thrones and a sprinkle of pure magic. I cannot praise this series enough it will have you wanting more. Dragon Kings, Kelpie Lords, Siren Spy, hot General, Magic, battles and an out of this world plot with descriptively written chapters make this book series a God tier series. So do yourself a favor and read it. Warning you may finish the book but in reality it finishes you(as in you want more and are ruined for other book). The author out did herself with this book.
City in the Storm is the second installment in The Oaths of Land and Sea series by Evelyn A. Bernard, and it launches straight from the ending of book one without missing a beat.
What truly stands out is how characters once considered minor step fully into the spotlight. Some will earn your devotion, others your heartbreak. You’ll ache for their pain, hope desperately for their happiness, and grieve when they’re denied what feels rightfully theirs.
And then there are the characters you’ll despise—the ones whose cruelty feels long overdue for consequences. You’ll find yourself waiting for justice, for the king to finally recognize their corruption… only to realize that he may be far more complicit than expected.
The political tension deepens, loyalties fracture, and the emotional stakes rise steadily until everything culminates in a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that leaves you reeling.
City in the Storm is an intense, character-driven continuation that sharpens every strength of the series and makes the wait for the next book feel almost unbearable.
