I found this book to be a really refreshing fantasy story! Its more of a sci-fi fantasy because it has technology and it not set in the typical olden days. I really like this, it was nice to see different types of technology be incorporated into a fantasy book. I also really like the characters. The main FMC Cora was not your typical sassy, super independent, needs no one type of character. She's sweet and kind and care for others, especially her people. Cora also has a very nice character growth arc where she does step up and become the leader she know she can be and it was very enjoyable to be able to see her journey. Gray was an amazing character as well. It was really cool to see a wildlife biologist in a fantasy book since that not a role you typically read in a fantasy book. The training scenes were also well written showing the character struggle in the beginning and know that after 1-2 session they wont be ready to go and fight in a sparring match or win a war. Its very realistic and that kind of made it even more enjoyable to read. I also like how Ms. Winters made the dragons not talk and we got to learn their personality through their actions!
Also there was a little plot twist at the beginning of the story that totally caught me off guard but it was such a good twist. Overall this was an amazing read and perfect introduction to sci-fi fantasy and the little live story that happens is perfectly paced! Also there is no spice in this story which I feel is harder to find in fantasy stories but it worked perfectly for the characters relationship.

What a great debut novel!

This story follows four main characters throughout the story. The FMC, Cora, is a princess and is being polished to take over the throne. The other three characters, Theo, Gray, and Callan, each bring their own interesting aspects to the story. Each character comes from different backgrounds and it's great to see into their thoughts. This book is told in 3rd person POV with 4 POV's.

The world is not overly complicated and there are some sci-fi aspects to it with androids and holograms. There's a bit of magic mentioned as a part of the story. The story has dragons, trainings, and secret missions.

There is so much that goes on that you do not want to stop. You want to and need to see what is going to happen next. I felt like the story had a good ending but after the epilogue, I'm thinking it might have a second book after this one.

Thank you Elle for allowing me to be an ARC reader for your debut novel. I can't wait to read more of your work.

A great story. It never felt slow to me. There were plenty of nights when I set a limit for how much I’d read, only to hit a suspenseful moment and decide to keep going 😂

I loved how technology was woven into the story, it didn’t feel like just another book set in a vague, non-modern world. The worldbuilding was clear and easy to follow, making it simple to jump back in even after putting the book down for a bit.

I can’t wait to see the lore and characters evolve in future books. This is a great introduction to a very cool world!

The plot twist at the beginning had me. 😂 It was a very good beginner fantasy book i would recommend to people just getting into fantasy. An easy read but not boring, the characters are great and you can tell stuff is building. I love the mix of fae with a more technology based society. It has a more urban feel while still having a more natural world as well. The dragons are very primal and it's nice to see some animalistic dragons. Though they have a connection the dragon is still very much a primal being. Im interested in seeing how things will change for these characters and this world. Also the FMC seems very chill and down to earth. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to read this early, and it didn't disappoint as the first book finished in 2026 . Much love to the author. Bring on the lore 😂
