Navigators You Can Trust: An Epic Fantasy Adventure: Navigators You Can Trust, Book 1

Rate this book
Four unlikely heroes must overcome their differences to help humanity navigate through the darkness of never-ending war in this action-packed adventure.

It is a time of Perpetual War. The legions of armored Archengardian warriors and the Noda—powered by dark technology—have been shedding each other's blood for as long as anyone can remember. The cause of the hostility has been lost to time, but the battle rages on.

The Navigational Brotherhood has stood in the middle of the conflict for centuries, wielding their magical Ignis abilities not as soldiers but as peacekeepers. Navigators follow a sacred code, three laws they've sworn to live to protect and preserve all, to master one's own fate, and to remain loyal to one another. But the Brotherhood isn't what it once was. Its ranks have diminished—and its latest recruits don't appear to be Navigator material.

Enoch Amon is a reckless swashbuckler, constantly risking his life for others. Prince Larocque cannot conjure Ignis, but he's connected to the Brotherhood by blood. Jezna Caelius is a knight, the last of her order, bound by customs of chivalry and honor. And Murta Kaster is a peerless fighter and mercenary, who wants to end the war at any cost. All four harbor secrets as well as suspicion and mistrust of one another.

But it will take their combined talents as a team to obtain a missing artifact, a Talisman known as the Sacred Heart, which the Brotherhood's ancient enemies seek to acquire and use as a weapon of unimaginable power . . .

ALC REVIEW — Navigators You Can Trust by Patrick Fitzgerald

First up—huge thank you to Podium Entertainment for the advanced listener copy (ALC) of this one 🎧

And WOW. The narration? Absolutely next level.

The voice performances brought this story to life in such a vivid way—each character felt distinct, emotionally layered, and real. You could hear the tension, the sarcasm, the guarded walls between them slowly cracking. The banter hit harder, the emotional moments landed deeper, and the action scenes felt even more intense because of how well they were delivered. This is one of those audiobooks where the narrators don’t just read the story—they perform it.

Now onto the story—

If you love found family, chaotic teamwork, and magic woven into war-torn worlds… this one is for you.

Set in a world ravaged by a never-ending conflict, we follow four wildly different recruits thrown into the Navigational Brotherhood—each carrying secrets, trauma, and very different ideas of loyalty. From a reckless swashbuckler to a knight clinging to honour, this crew is messy in the best way.

The character dynamic is the real standout. These aren’t polished heroes—they’re guarded, flawed, and learning to trust in a world that’s given them no reason to. The tension? Immaculate. The banter? Sharp. The slow unraveling of their walls? So satisfying.

The world-building is rich and layered, with magic (Ignis) tied into deeper lore that unfolds gradually. It doesn’t hold your hand—but it rewards your attention.

Plot-wise, you’ve got:
✨ a perpetual war with unclear origins
✨ a powerful lost artifact
✨ morally grey conflict with no clear “right” side

The pacing dips slightly during heavier backstory moments, but when the action kicks in—it delivers. And honestly? Experiencing those scenes through audio made them hit even harder.

Overall vibes:
⚔️ Found family
🔥 Magic + lore
🗡️ Training-to-war arc
🖤 Secrets + reluctant trust

Final thoughts:
This feels like the start of something big. Strong character foundations, immersive world-building, and an audiobook performance that genuinely elevates the entire experience.
