A sweet and sexy, wounded hero meets single mom, small-town Christmas romance about loss, healing, and the one woman who makes him want to stay.
Cullen Reeve thought he’d left heartbreak behind when he walked away from the Pacific Detector Dog Team—and from the partner who died in his arms. Now, he and his German Shepherd, Ghost, have found refuge at Noah’s Ark Sanctuary, where rescuing animals feels safer than facing people. But as the anniversary of that night draws near, old memories resurface… and so does the ache of loneliness.
Then vet nurse Isla Markham arrives with her young son and a heart as bruised as his own. Burned out after a difficult year, she’s come to help through the holidays, and to find her way home again. No one’s more surprised than Cullen when his traumatized dog allows this quiet, compassionate woman and her son to get close.
Working side by side, their fragile trust begins to heal more than the animal. But as Christmas approaches, Cullen must decide whether to keep running from the past—or stay, and take a chance on love, family, and a new beginning beneath the stars at Sunrise Bay.
USA Today bestselling author Serenity Woods writes feel-good romances full of friends, family, and falling in love. Most of her stories are set in Godzone, aka Aotearoa New Zealand, where she lives.
I love Serenity's books, they're down to earth, very realistic (even when they include billionaires), and are mostly set in the very beautiful New Zealand.
This one doesn't disappoint. In the prequel of her new Sunrise Bay series we revisit the Noah's Ark animal sanctuary and meet Cullen and Isla.
Cullen is a former police officer with a dog trained in sniffing out explosives. He left the force after an incendiary device killed his partner while injuring him and his dog. He meets Isla and her son after six months at his new job training rescue dogs.
"Isla is a modern, confident, beautiful, spirited woman".
Isla, a vetinary nurse took her six year old son and left her abusive husband after he hit him. She has a friend at the sanctuary and was able to get a part-time job. There she meets Cullen.
"I glance at Cullen as I pass him into the corridor. Gruff could be this guy’s middle name. Everything about him is rough and ready, from his untidy, wind- ruffled, short brown hair to his faded T- shirt, scruffy shorts, and scuffed walking boots. His manner is gruff too, his tone brusque, and I’m surprised he offered to show me around".
As always, Serenity Woods tackles delicate subjects with aplomb. This is a great introduction to her brand new series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and am leaving a completely honest review.
5 Star Review Stay for Christmas: (A Sunrise Bay Prequel) by Serenity Woods
I love stories set around the holidays and this was a well written and entertaining one. Add in that our heroine is a single mum and for me it’s a win/win.
This is Cullen Reeve and vet nurse Isla Markham’s story and although a prequel Serenity Woods packed a lot of emotions into this one.
When Isla connects with his dog, Ghost, he is shocked. Could Isla and her son help them through the darkness and bring light into their lives?
Will Cullen find the courage to stay in Sunrise Bay or will he turn his back on a chance at happiness and run?
What a wonderful start to a new series and just as wonderful to be back in Sunrise Bay. Cullen Reeve was suffering from PTSD and survivors guilt, he had been a police dog handler, he and his German Shepheard dog, Ghost, had been injured in an explosion, but his partner had been killed. Cullen blamed himself for Jake's death, he didn't attend the funeral, he left the police force and became a wanderer, always trying to stay ahead to avoid crashing. The owners of The Noah's Ark Sanctuary in Sunrise Bay had welcomed Cullen with his wealth of experience, Cullen was happy there but he knew that the time was approaching when he must move on. Isla Marham had escaped from Auckland and her abusive husband, she forgave him when he struck her but she couldn't forgive him when he drunkenly struck their gentle young son Max. Isla was a vet nurse and her friend offered her temporary work at The Noah's Ark Sanctuary where she met Cullen, there was an instant attraction between the gruff, rough and ready ex policeman and the spirited, beautiful veterinary nurse, but nothing could come from this, they were both fighting their own demons. Young Max was in his element, he loved animals and had a way with them, Cullen was astounded that his loyal dog, Ghost, the same dog that, since the accident, would only allow Cullen to approach him, allowed Max to pet him whilst he licked Max's hand. Isla and Cullen grew close, they shared their secrets and their problems but Christmas and the anniversary of Jake's death was approaching and Callum knew that it was time to move on. What is not to love about this beautifully told story, Serenity Woods has written wonderful, likeable characters, a gentle romance, all in a beautiful setting, her obvious love of her native New Zealand and especially, The Bay of Islands shines through. I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.
This is a quick and easy read, and a very gentle story. Cullen was a police dog handler, both he and his German Shepherd, Ghost, were injured and his best friend Jack was killed when Cullen failed to find a detonator hidden in a terrorist‘s coat. Cullen is suffering from survivors guilt, and Ghost was traumatised by the incident, Cullen is the only person he will allow near him. Since then Cullen has stayed on the move, never saying anywhere for long. He has been helping out at the Ark, an animal rescue centre for a few weeks and although he loves it there he is planning to leave very soon.
Isla, a veterinary nurse, arrives at the Ark to work for a few weeks while she tries to sort her life out. She has been unhappy in her marriage since Rob hit her when he was drunk, and now he has hit their son Max. She immediately packed her bags and left for a different part of New Zealand where a friend has fond the job for her. She has decided that after Christmas she will begin divorce proceedings. She has just arrived for an interview for the temporary job when she meets Cullen, who offers to show her and Max around until it is time for her interview. There is an immediate spark between them.
Max adores animals, Cullen is amazed when Ghost allows Max to stroke him. The Ark is very short-staffed, a few have called in sick that morning, and Isla is asked to start immediately. Cullen offers let Max help him with the animals in the rescue centre for the morning, Max is thrilled to do so, and Cullen soon discovers that the animals all respond to the young lad.
And so a friendship begins between these two fragile people. And along the healing path they tread comes the offer of jobs in a new venture that will form the nucleus for the next series of stories.
Stay for Christmas by Serenity Woods Sunrise Bay Prequel
~ Warm holiday vibes in this New Zealand romance ~ Really loved this introduction to a new series by one of my favorite authors ~
What I liked: * Cullen Reeve: dog trainer for Noah’s Ark, ex-police dog trainer, survivor’s guilt, PTSD, grumpy, Ghost’s human, drawn to Isla and her son Max * Isla Markham: single mother of Max, ran from her husband, working for Noah’s Ark during the holidays, conflicted, attracted to Cullen * Max: Isla’s son, dog whisperer, quiet, wise, bonds with Ghost and Cullen * That Isla was strong enough to leave her husband when he hit Max and that she carried through with her plans to divorce him and move on * Noah’s Ark that is a place for humans and animals to heal and it has a wonderful team working together to provide a perfect setting for those who have been abused ~ Loved catching up with some of the characters from previous series in this story * Ghost: sniffer dog for explosives and firearms, has PTSD and trust issues, takes to Max and Isla quickly * The chemistry between Isla and Cullen and the way they were there for one another both physically and emotionally * Finding out who the next book in the series will star and being eager to read it
What I didn’t like: * Rob: Isla’s soon to be ex-husband * Leaning toward not liking Jude…hoping Beth will give him the boot * Having to wait for the next book to come out.
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review
Ahh holiday romance is always sweet, and this is like a ripple end watermelon, easy to devour. Set in Sunrise Bay and the Ark, it’s the perfect setting for second chances, healing and redemption. Cullen and Isla both come from heartbreak, him losing his partner and best mate on Boxing Day to an explosion he feels responsible for, and Isla, she’s running from an abusive husband who hit both her and their son, she needs more of a break. Meeting Cullen the sullen dog handler wasn’t on the cards but simple kismet, her son Max has the animal touch too. It’s like a duo made to find the perfect triangle.
The lead up to Christmas should be fun, exciting and magical, especially for max, Isla tries to keep normalcy and the magic for him, but her life at home brings it down…. Luckily she has Cullen to help out.
As Cullen manoeuvres the lead up to his friends anniversary, he finds something in Isla, but she holds her own secret, one that could destroy the very new friendship they’ve formed. When it comes out it has the power to open old wounds but his decision and response was not as I’d imagined. It brings them closer in a dance of heartache, self reflection and chemistry, and buy fi they have that.
As I e wants to leave and move on, and the other moved on and stayed, Sunrise Bay might just be the medication to fix the holiday heavy-hearted. I’m definitely excited to see what happens with PAWS in the future… I’m anticipating much much more magic!
I loved reading Stay for Christmas, the prequel to Serenity Woods’ new series set in Sunrise Bay. We’re back in Northland, the setting for the Billionaire Kings series & the Ark Animal Sanctuary, & it’s good to catch up with some old friends from earlier books. The main characters, Cullen & Isla, meet at The Ark, where Cullen & his dog Ghost have come after leaving the police force where both have struggled since the explosives incident which killed Jack, Cullen’s professional partner, & caused injury to Cullen & Ghost. Cullen carries a burden of guilt for what happened and suffers from PTSD & survivors guilt. Isla, a veterinary nurse, & her six year old son Max fled their family home after both being abused by her husband, & have come to The Ark where Isla’s friend Beth works. Cullen & Isla soon make friends, whilst Max befriends Ghost.
I enjoyed seeing each of these characters gradually relaxing & settling in the friendly & welcoming community at The Ark, & in the gorgeous countryside around. It was lovely to watch them each finding friendship & healing as they settled into the community, finding their place. I love the skilful way the writer has created a community of people & a place into which she introduces new characters & weaves their story. She writes about sensitive (& potentially triggering for some) issues with a light & sensitive touch, which manages to feel grounded.
It’s a lovely gentle story, set at Christmas time, full of hope & optimism for the future for Cullen & Isla, & for young Max. It just feels so appropriate for the time of year, & I’d recommend it as a great Christmas read.
Cullen and his dog Ghost are both "broken" from a career-ending trauma with the police force. They move around the country and end up temporarily at the Ark, a "rescue, recovery, re-home" facility, caring for traumatized animals, preparing them for new lives in new welcoming homes. He is planning on leaving in a couple of days, right before Christmas. But then, Isla arrives.
Isla is a veterinary nurse who also finds her way to the Ark, escaping an abusive husband who has finally gone one step too far, hitting her six-year-old son, Max.
There are a number of trigger issues in this book, and a lot of themes that I didn't normally, personally, relate to at all. Yet, from page one, this story reached out and grabbed me and kept me attached to every single person, new and old to the very end. I yelled at Cullen to quit doubting himself, applauded Isla in her strength to keep her son safe, and cheered when everyone else acted, subtly and not so subtly, to bring the four of them (Cullen, Isla, Ghost and Max) together. Serenity has done it again, making the latest book my new favorite. And now Serenity has introduced a whole new group of amazing people who will all have incredible stories in this new PAWS series.
Thank you, Serenity, for bringing this new place and people into our lives!! I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I love the prequel to the new Sunrise Bay series. We start out with Collen and Isla at Noah's Ark, which started out with the wonderful facility we learned about in the Billionaire Kings series. Both have been through a lot emotionally and landing at Noah's Ark is the best place for wounded animals and wounded souls.
Collen has been at the facility for about a year. Isla comes with her son, Max, during the Christmas holiday to fill in for veterinary nurses who need holiday time off.
Both characters have been emotionally wounded and feel a close pull to one another. They have more in common than they know, and when they dig deeper into a relationship, they find issues that could keep them apart.
I loved Isla's little son and the relationship he forges with Collen and Collen's dog, Ghost.
The story is warm and full of people from the Billionaire Kings and new characters as well. I always love how Serenity Woods writes such endearing and memorable characters. Her description of the landscape, the towns, the bays and ocean are always a treat for the senses.
The love story with Collen and Isla is filled with sweet and fiery tension and I was rooting for them big time.
Sunrise Bay was meant to be a temporary stop for Cullen and Isla. Both are damaged souls working short-term at the Ark Animal Sanctuary. He's an ex-cop, retired with his police dog, Ghost, after both are injured in a blast that killed his partner. Survivor's guilt has him in a firm grip and Ghost resists human contact. Isla has just walked out of her marriage after her abusive husband escalated to striking her 6 year old son, Max. What no one expects is the immediate bond between boy and dog …… or the instant chemistry between the adults.
What a great intro into the new Sunrise Bay series! I love that we get a sort of family reunion of characters from previous series welcoming in new members. As a prequel, it admirably fulfills its purpose introducing us to an enticing project and thoroughly likable characters. As Ms. Woods is wont to do, there's exploration of real issues (domestic violence and PTSD) this time wrapped gently in an appealing Christmas setting. It is so easy to become invested in her characters and cheer them on to their HEA. If you're a seasoned Woods reader, you'll feel right at home. If not, you're in for a holiday treat! I was graciously offered an advance copy from the author. Give yourself a present and get your own copy today.
Sigh, anytime Serenity Woods brings out another Christmas story, I'm hooked.
Cullen and Isla are both a little broken, but their healing journey in this book is marvelously beautiful. I love how it went in the completely opposite direction of the usual way these, best friend's sibling romances tend to go.
I love it even more that we get to catch up with the Ark gang! I'm so pleased for Noah, him being my favourite of the King adopted kiddos.
And then Brock walks onto the page, and I swoon even when the guy is in his sixties in-universe!
Listen, Three Wise Men started it all for me, and they will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. To see him, Matt and Charlie all together again, doing good, being their best Wise Men selves? Priceless.
Plus, throughout this book, you can see the collective King hive responding to the world around them, and doing the most to keep it turning positively.
Ms Woods has truly crafted something magical, and I cannot WAIT to read more stories in Sunrise Bay! Cullen and Isla are just the wonderful, slightly jagged, sweetly sexy start.
Absolutely recommend you pick this up as soon as it releases!
Stay For Christmas is Cullen and single mum Isla’s entertaining and engaging story. It’s the prequel to the new Sunrise Bay Series and this story did exactly what I want in a prequel giving me enough but leaving me excited and wanting more. Cullen and his sniffer dog retired from the police after an incendiary device killed his partner and injuring Cullen. Training rescue dogs at Noahs Arc has become his temporary solitude but it was never going to be his forever job until Isla and her six year old son arrived in the bay. Isla is a veterinary nurse spending Christmas working a temporary part time job while escaping her abusive husband who hit her and her son. Spending Christmas in Sunrise Bay is about to change everybody’s life forever……. When this couple meet because they share a bond no one saw that will give them both strength for the future. I loved this book and it didn’t take me long to become invested in this well written, captivating story. I fell hard and fast for this couple and I found myself cheering them on as they worked out their past and their future.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I am delighted that Serenity is returning to Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary. If you haven't yet read the previous series set there, I highly recommend diving in. The books are filled with animals, love, and healing, and Serenity excels at coming up with new ideas for the Ark. The Ark is such a wonderful place filled with amazing people.
In this book, the staff is working on a new therapy centre called PAWS, designed to help both damaged people and animals heal together. Cullen and Isla are both struggling; Cullen suffers from PTSD and survivor's guilt following the death of his partner during his time as a police officer. Isla, his partner's sister, is also facing challenges, including separation from her abusive husband. What was lovely was the way Max and Ghost got on together, which made Cullen see that he wasn't alone. With the support of the wonderful animals and her adorable son, Max, how could they not begin to heal?
It was enjoyable to revisit the staff of the Ark and their families in this instalment. The story is rich with emotion, romance, passion, and Christmas cheer set against a New Zealand summer, making for a uniquely festive experience.
I was so happy when this book came out as I am a fan of the Billionaire Kings series. This book starts us off with two people, Isla and Cullen, who are having a hard time this holiday season. Cullen has some ghosts from his past to contend with, and Isla is finding her way after leaving an abusive relationship. Both end up at Noah's Ark, an animal sanctuary/veterinary hospital in Sunrise Bay. I like how you are lead through the story, with both character perspectives on not only the day-to-day activities at the Ark, but also in how they are navigating the troubles in their lives and trying to figure out how to move forward. The story is very sweet, with a little bit of steam and it's nice to see the characters from the Billionaire Kings series make an appearance (and no, reading the previous series is not required, but you may want to after reading this book). Plus, there is the bonus of Christmas cheer. A great start to a new series, can't wait for the first Sunrise Bay book to come out. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I am so happy that Serenity is returning to Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary. If you haven't read the previous series set there, do yourself a favor and dive in. There is a lot of emotion, romance, passion and Christmas cheer in a New Zealand summer. Somehow a hot Christmas that makes it even more fun. I volunteered to read and review an early copy and I loved it!
At Noah’s Ark Sanctuary, Cullen Reeve and his German Shepherd Ghost are working at recovering from an explosion that killed his police partner Jack, and PTSD. He planned to only stay for a short while but has been there for about six months. Isla Markham, a vet nurse, and her son Max, have arrived at the sanctuary to help out over the holidays. Max, even though he is six (almost seven) loves all animals and instantly made friends with Ghost which no one had been able to do that since the explosion. Isla had to get Max away from her husband as he had hit her but promised it wouldn’t happen again. When he backhanded Max for no reason, she knew it couldn’t happen again, so she left. This is a touching story of standing your ground and finding healing and love at Noah’s Ark Sanctuary. Also, the start of a new venture called PAWS, a therapy center using animals to assist in therapy. A few other secrets come out too. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Start of the Sunrise Bay series Welcome back to the Ark, where love is the balm to what ails you. Cullen Reeve and his police dog Ghost came to work at Noah’s Ark Sanctuary after surviving an explosion that killed their partner. When vet nurse Isla Markham comes to the Ark to help over the holidays both start healing from their grief and past experiences. With a not so subtle nudge from Noah, and forgiveness from their partner's family, Ghost and Cullen start healing from their PTSD and survivor's guilt. Stay for Christmas is a perfect wounded hero/single mom romance, and a wonderful start to the Sunrise Bay series. Ms Woods handles triggering experiences with sensitivity, while building her interlinking worlds with a deft hand. Whether it be about a regular Joe or billionaire, Ms Woods stays true to the essence of romance, with a dash of spice to keeps things exciting. I received an advanced copy from the author
A lovely tender Christmas romance between two people suffering from a loss that ties them together. Isla, lost her brother Jake in a police accident, where his partner Cullen blames himself. Both Cullen and his dog were hurt and need to find a way to move forward. Healing therapies is a big part of the story. Plus, Isla and her son Max, have left a domestic violence situation in Auckland. Isla, a vet nurse, and Cullen's mutual love for animals and the therapy that animals can both bring and need is found in their work at Northland's Ark animal facility. Love is discovered between these two gifted individuals.
While a somewhat tamer read than some of Serenity's other series, I found this a delightful read and look forward to the next book. I voluntarily read this as an ARC book.
I absolutely loved returning to Sunrise Bay! I’ve missed everyone at Noah's Ark, and this book provided all the updates I was hoping for. You can’t help but fall in love with Cullen, the ultimate gruff hero, and his loyal sidekick, Ghost. Still grieving the loss of his partner, Cullen is ready to move on to his next destination, but he doesn’t expect Isla to come along. Isla arrives seeking some much-needed respite for herself and her son, Max, after recent challenges. This story was everything I wanted and more. I adored how Cullen and Isla’s relationship began as a friendship, despite their mutual attraction, and how the twists and turns of their journey led them to discover a new path. It was also wonderful to meet some of the characters from the upcoming series—this book sets the stage perfectly, and now I can’t wait for book one!
It was such a good feeling to briefly revisit the Three Kings, and the Billionaires again. I needed a feel good book and this was it.
Cullen and Isla had an intense romantic connection and also developed a family connection including Max and Ghost. Cullen understood that Isla and Max were a package deal.
I liked that both Cullen and Isla's gave thought to their current situations and actually communicated those those and feelings to each other. They managed to navigate all the complexities of their lives that had an effect on their futures. I also appreciated the little unexpected twists that were included.
This was a romantic holiday romance that was an excellent beginning to a new series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Stay for Christmas is the prequel to the new Sunrise Bay series, but is really a heartwarming novella-length romance in its own right. While characters from other series make cameo appearances, it can easily be read and enjoyed on its own. Cullen and Isla are both very relatable and likeable characters, perfectly complemented by both Isla's son and Cullen's four-footed family. There's quite a bit of depth to their story with deep and emotional subjects, but their connection is instantaneous and feels 'meant-to-be'. A great start with both sugar & spice, as well as a taste of Christmas in summery New Zealand. Can't wait to go back to Sunrise Cove! I was fortunate to have received an early copy and am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.
This author definitely tackles some pretty difficult subject matters, and this book definitely deals with a couple of heavy hitters. DV and the guilt of losing a military comrade are pretty difficult things to write about, especially when there's a child and animal in the mix.
Serenity Woods is an absolute master at writing these situations in her storylines and putting the reader at ease. I loved Cullen and Isla, you fall in love with them more and more as the pages of their story unfold. Max and Ghost are an added bonus in this heartwarming book. I adore The Three Kings, so it was a great surprise to see these characters make an appearance. I'm anxiously awaiting the next installment in this new series.
This book is the start of a new series that is connected to the Billionaire Kings series. I really liked that series and I enjoyed meeting the characters again.
This book follows Cullen and Isla. Cullen works at the Ark after some life trauma. He and his dog are still recovering when they meet Isla and her son. Cullen's dog Ghost doesn’t like strangers but is drawn to the little boy. Isla and Max are also escaping some trauma and come to the ark for her to work and escape. Can they help each other to heal?
These two are so sweet. I really enjoyed their story. I’m looking forward to this new series connected to the Ark.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Cullen is a retired police officer with a troubled past. Isla and her young son, Max, are fleeing an abusive home. They meet at Noah's Arc, an animal rescue where Cullen is currently working, and Isla is beginning a temporary job.If you've read any of her books before , you will be delighted to be reunited with The Three Kings and Noah's Arc. If, you haven't, no worries. You will thoroughly enjoy this heart warming story of joy and healing during the Christmas season. Serenity Woods never disappoints, and I look forward to reading the next in this new series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Another wonderful, heartwarming book by Serenity Woods. Each of her books renew your faith in humanity and that there are loving and caring people in this world. Damaged spirits can be renewed if they are given the opportunity. Tragic events can be recovered from. I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens going forward. It was wonderful to see all the “family“ from the Ark and that they are helping animals of all kinds and have recovered from their various traumas and are working toward better life goals for themselves and others and that animals are helping in the therapy required for assisting damaged spirits. A perfect renewing life story for Christmas.
You don’t have to have read any other Serenity Woods’ stories to enjoy this prequel to a new series but, if your interest is piqued by the story of Cullen and Isla, then look for all the other books about ty King family and how Noah’s Ark came to be. Isla is escaping from an abusive marriage and Cullen is mired in guilt over the death of his police partner. Sparks fly between the two and, as Isla’s son, Max, gets attached to Cullen, Isla becomes concerned about Cullen’s propensity to never stay in one place. As the two protagonists agree to commit to each other, a happily ever after brings the story its positive conclusion.
There hasn't been a single Serenity Woods book that I haven't immensely enjoyed and this is no exception.
Stay for Christmas is the story of Cullen, who is suffering thru PTSD, Isla, who suffers herself as a result of an abusive relationship and her son Max. They meet when Isla comes to work at Noah's Ark refuge for Christmas. Despite challenges along the way, their happily ever after is just over the horizon. I love Serenity Woods' books and the way her characters are so real and relatable. Highly recommend!
I have voluntarily left an honest review from an ARC from the author
Cullen Reeve has only settled in a place for short periods of time. He feels he doesn't deserve to be happy after his partner died on the job. He is doing a short stint at the Noah’s Ark Sanctuary, but he plans to move on before Christmas. Then vet nurse Isla Markham and her son arrive for a temporary position at the Sanctuary. She has left her abusive husband and is trying to work out what to do. Cullen is surprised to find that his dog is prepared to interact with Isla and her son.
What a lovely taster of the new series set in Sunrise Bay. A sweet romance between two people who needed some healing, and what better way than being surrounded by animals and caring, supportive friends. Although all of Serenity's books can be read as stand-alone, I particularly like how she weaves lots of other characters and places from other series she has written. If you haven't read them, you will soon want to! I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
Another winner from Serenity Woods. She brings together four wounded souls and shows them that life and love are worth taking the risk. Isla and Max have been hurt by an abusive husband/father. Cullen and Ghost suffer from PTSD. When they find themselves at Noah's Ark, the magic of Christmas and the love that permeates the Ark are too strong to resist. I loved seeing familiar faces. I'm eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.
