Through the snowy night, silver bells ring cheerfully, heralding a season of secret gifts, unexpected chances, and love's sweetest journeys . . .
A SLEIGH RIDE ON ICE MOUNTAIN Kelly Long For solitary toy-maker Sebastian Christner, hiring Kate Zook as his new housekeeper is simply the right thing to do. Now she can support her special-needs brother. But one taste of her independent spirit is showing him undreamed-of holiday joy—and making him long to give her a home for always . . .
A MAMM FOR CHRISTMAS Amy Lillard Bernice Yoder has far too much to do to entertain holiday dreams. Even if she can help Jess Schmucker outwit his three mischievous young daughters, it's impossible to imagine the handsome widower can see her as anything but a scolding schoolteacher. He never guesses how a magical Christmas Eve will open his eyes to love or how Der Herr will awaken their faith and hope.
AN UNEXPECTED CHRISTMAS BLESSING Molly Jebber As much as Charity Lantz's children need a father, the young widow isn’t sure her new neighbor Luke Fisher can ever be the right choice. They’re having more disagreements than snowflakes in December. Besides, he's never given a sign he wants to be more than friends. Can Gott show them a way past their misunderstandings to a forever love?
Three stories about couples who find happiness and love at Christmas make up the Amish Christmas Sleigh. Not normally my type of book I thought I would give this one a try. I have given the book three stars as a collection but don't think each story was worth three stars.
A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain by Kelly Long is the first story in the book. Never having read anything by this author I was a little shocked at some of the story. I don't want to include anything that would spoil the book for readers but at times I questioned if I was reading an Amish story. There were things in this story that I haven't seen in Amish fiction before. I want my Amish fiction to be nice and clean and not have elements that I would find in contemporary, non-Amish fiction. I liked the premise of the story but due to the surprising elements would only give this story 1 1/2 stars. I don't think I would read anything else by this author.
A Mamm for Christmas by Amy Lillard was by far my favorite story in this book. The characters were easy to relate to and I felt interested in their story. I found myself smiling at the antics of the three small girls. Amy has a writing style that is easy to read. I can get wrapped up in one of her stories, short or full-length novel, and be lost for hours. I would give this story 5 stars.
An Unexpected Christmas Blessing by Molly Jebber was a cute story. I liked the characters and the story was nice. The only downfall of this story is Molly's writing style. It seems a bit stilted and almost elementary in style. I know this was a short story/novella but it would have been nice to have more depth to the story and the characters. I would have liked to have seen a better flow to the story. This story I would give three stars to.
Fans of Amish fiction will probably enjoy this collection of stories. However, don't say you weren't warned about the first one!
A SLEIGH RIDE ON ICE MOUNTAIN is lovely story of life beyond brokenness. You won't be disappointed. However, I will note that I was a little surprised by the sensual elements in this story. Don't worry, it doesn't get to the point of sexual, and it is minor. A MAMM FOR CHRISTMAS cracks me up. The little antics of Constance, Hope & Ruth brings a smile to any reader. Sometimes it just takes the sweet, innocent minds of 3 little girls, their tender hearts and big faith in God to bring them what they want most, a new mamm, and just in time for Christmas! AN UNEXPECTED CHRISTMAS BLESSING brings forth the theme of God's divine planning in joining those in need in His perfect timing, not to mention the help of precious little ones.
Warmth invades your senses as you read these three wonderfully written stories of family, faith of little ones and the joy of riding together on a journey of new familial bliss.
The Amish Christmas Sleigh***** by Kelly Long, Amy Lillard and Molly Jebber
-A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain ***** by Kelly Long I enjoyed reading Kate Zook, her crippled younger brother, Ben and Sebastian Christner's story. Sebastian has a secret from his past that holds him captive and alone. I could almost feel his despair whenever his thoughts took him back to that tragic day so long ago. Kate Zook is a good caregiver to her younger brother. Despite Ben having to use crutches and not being able to play as other children do, he is a happy child. I really liked his attitude, he captured my heart. Kate has sad memories from the past too. I liked how she gave all to care for her brother and was hoping she would find a special someone to love her—and Ben—and help carry her load. Will Sebastian and Kate allow God to heal the past? With Sebastian's past is there really any hope for someone like Kate to love him? There is a bit physical/sexual tension described between Sebastian and Kate that I wasn't expecting (and don't really care to read about) but it was done in a tasteful manner. This is a heartwarming, sweet story of forgiveness, hope, faith and love.
-A Mamm for Christmas***** by Amy Lillard Jess Schmucker really has a difficult time caring for his three young daughters, his home and farm since his wife died. I could feel his struggles in trying to balance everything all on his own. I loved when his daughters school teacher, Bernice Yoder shows up at his door to talk to him about his daughters. Sparks flew between them—both Jess and Bernice had the wrong impression of what really was going on. I felt the girls longing for a mother and enjoyed the plans/antics they came up with to play matchmaker—which had me chuckling and even rooting for them. Each character had a different way of dealing with their grief and hopes for the future. I like the strong faith woven throughout the story. This is a fun story filled with hope, grief, joy, funny antics, faith and love.
-An Unexpected Christmas Blessing***** Blessing by Molly Jebber Still mourning the death of her husband, Charity Lantz decides it is time to find a new father for her two young children, 8 year old Beth and 5 year old Josiah. There is one man who seems to be interested in her, but is he the right one for her and her family? Luke Fisher recently moved to the house next door to Charity and loves playing with Beth and Josiah. He enjoys the time spent with Charity but because of past hurts has decided to guard his heart. I really enjoyed Beth and Josiah's zest for life and soon fell in love with them. Josiah suffers a serious injury and I loved his attitude throughout his healing. Of the two men interested in Charity, I had my choice and hoped Charity would agree. I enjoyed the interaction between Charity and Luke—which wasn't always pleasant. Then Luke gets a surprise visit from his painful past, which had me holding my breath for the outcome. I like the way a strong faith is so much a part of their lives in all things. This is a fun story showing God's love and care, unexpected blessings, faith, joy, heartaches, grief, and love.
~I received an e-book copy of this book from Amy Lillard via NetGalley for my honest review~
Through the snowy night, silver bells ring cheerfully, heralding a season of secret gifts, unexpected chances, and love's sweetest journeys . . .
A SLEIGH RIDE ON ICE MOUNTAIN by Kelly Long For solitary toy-maker Sebastian Christner, hiring Kate Zook as his new housekeeper is simply the right thing to do. Now she can support her special-needs brother. But one taste of her independent spirit is showing him undreamed-of holiday joy—and making him long to give her a home for always . . .
My thoughts: A SLEIGHT RIDE ON ICE MOUNTAIN is a cute well-written story. Ms. Long does get a lot more graphic than I am used to or comfortable with in Christian romance, but there is a good faith message and I loved the illusion to Santa even though she doesn't exactly come out and say it. I don't think I've ever seen a story about an Amish toy-maker before, yet it is a viable Amish career as I've seen them in Amish communities.
A MAMM FOR CHRISTMAS by Amy Lillard Bernice Yoder has far too much to do to entertain holiday dreams.
My thoughts: A MAMM FOR CHRISTMAS is, I think, the first Amish book I've read by Amy Lillard although I have read and enjoyed some of her historical novellas. This was a very sweet read, slow, but engaging. I couldn't help but fall in love with Bernice and poor Jess was so confused and lost. His little girls were a delight. A good read.
AN UNEXPECTED CHRISTMAS BLESSING by Molly Jebber As much as Charity Lantz's children need a father, the young widow isn’t sure her new neighbor Luke Fisher can ever be the right choice. They’re having more disagreements than snowflakes in December. Besides, he's never given a sign he wants to be more than friends. Can Gott show them a way past their misunderstandings to a forever love?
My thoughts: AN UNEXPECTED CHRISTMAS BLESSING was a sweet story. I think this is the first one I read with a divorced hero. It rather surprised me, knowing the Amish views about marriage. But she made it realistic. I felt sorry for the little boy suffering an injury early on in the book. The characters weren't really well developed, but it was an interesting story.
A friend, not any of the authors nor the publisher, gave me a copy of her book. I was not required to leave a review.
MY REVIEW of A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain by Kelly Long: This is a precious story of hope and love involving Kate Zook and Sebastian Christner and Kate's crippled little brother, Ben. Will love find its way to Kate and Sebastian's hearts? or will they let the chance for a beautiful marriage and home pass them by? Readers will delight in finding the answers to these questions as they read this Christmas novella by Kelly Long. I rate this novella 5 stars.
MY REVIEW of A Mamm for Christmas by Amy Lillard: What can three little bitty girls possibly do to help their dadd find a new mamm for them? Constance has plenty of ideas when she sees the pretty young teacher, Bernice Yoder. So she enlists her two younger sisters, Hope and Ruth, in her plan and they set a deadline. Christmas is a time for magical wishes coming true for children, even among the Amish, and these three dolls want one thing: a new mamm. What a delightful story Amy Lillard has created. I could not help smiling and laughing at the things these little ones do to convince their dadd that Bernice is the new mamm for them. Will he agree though? Readers will laugh along with these girls as they work their magic on their dadd and their unsuspecting school teacher. This is a heartwarming story to brighten the Christmas season all year long. I rate this novella 5 stars.
MY REVIEW of An Unexpected Christmas Blessing by Molly Jebber: Charity Lantz has been a widow for over a year and she is lonely and longs to give her precious children a new dadd. When handsome and kind new neighbor, Luke Fisher, moves in next door, Josiah and Beth are quite taken with him and don't hesitate to invite him to dinner before even asking their mamm. Abe Beachy is an Amish widower with six young children to care for and he wants Charity to be their new mamm. But she doesn't love the man even though she feels sorry for him and he would be a good dadd to her children. Josiah and Beth have decided that Luke Fisher is the dadd they want but will their mamm and neighbor agree or will sparks fly between the two? Luke has a past that caused pain and trauma but can he overcome it and give it to the desires of his heart? This is an irrestible story and I was rooting for a love match between Charity adn Jess right along with little Josiah and Beth. I rate this novella 5 stars. I received an ebook of this collection from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this collection of three Amish novellas. Each story has a sleigh incorporated into it somehow and all three stories are independent of each other. I have included a short review of each novella.
A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain Kelly Long:
I enjoyed the story line of this novella. Kate and Sebastian were interesting characters who each had burdens to bear. Seeing Kate finally get a chance for happiness was a good focus in this story. This novella does have a few adult/sensual moments that may be uncomfortable for some readers.
A Mamm for Christmas by Amy Lillard:
This was my favorite novella of the collection. The children in this story are fabulous! And the story line was very sweet. I was frustrated at times with Jess Schmucker’s inability to see the possibility of love that was right in front of him for most of the story. But that did build up a great anticipation for a very enjoyable ending.
An Unexpected Christmas Blessing by Molly Jebber:
This was also a sweet and enjoyable story in the collection. I really liked the way Charity, Luke, and the two children connected. There are also some good moments of tension in this novella. I wondered a bit at the view that the bishop had about divorce. It seemed opposite of what I have read is the norm in Amish communities, but worked well for this novella.
An overall enjoyable collection with a snowy, Christmas setting throughout all of the novellas.
I received a complimentary copy, through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
This book contains three novellas , one from each author that remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. Love, family, forgiveness , faith and hope are all found in this book reminding us that we all have our own problems and that Christmas is the time we all hope the festive spirit will find us. This is a feel good story that would be perfect to pick up and read with a cup of something warm and get cozy . I loved all three stories but I had a special fondness for the second book which contained some very mischievous children making it a comical read . Children's loveable innocence at its best! In the book you have grumpy men , prospective husbands and as I said some very mischievous children , what's not to love about that ! A very enjoyable read .
This is my first time I think reading a novella (or three). I enjoyed it because the stories were short and quick to read. They kind of flew by, and it didn't take long to get into the story. The characters were relatable (in-spite of the fact they were Amish). For the most part, the stories were predictable, but I would guess that to be common in a novella, since there is really not much time to build the plot to a conclusion. It does include the use of quite a few "Amish" words in it, which can be understood relatively well even if they are not English.
My favorite story was Molly Jebber's Unexpected Christmas Blessing. Charity is a widow and having a hard time getting over her late husband. She has two young children who are polite and lovable kids, although a little outspoken at times, but what kids aren't. A single man, Luke, moves in next door and begins helping her with some needed handiwork as well as entertaining the children. Although he is kind, he is not very open, and seems to be hiding something from his past. Charity needs a husband and her children need a father, but she may have to settle for someone else who is interested in her, even if she has feelings for Luke. Will he open up and let her in? Or will he lose her forever?
I guess my next favorite was Amy Lillard's, A Mamm for Christmas. It is a fun story of three girls whose mother passed away. They are in desperate need of a woman in their lives and they think their father is in need of a wife. So they set about to find him one concocting their own devious way of doing it. The plan somewhat backfires but not before interest is sparked and their father recognized he must move on to take care of his family. Hence Jess' process of looking for a wife begins. And although his daughters would like him to take interest in their school teacher Bernice, his interests seem to lie elsewhere. I think the readers will enjoy this sweet story and these conspiring little girls.
Lastly, Kelly Long's book, A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain. Although I really liked the plot in the story, there were several things which I was not particularly pleased with. The plot consisted of a single toy maker with a secret past and his involvement in helping better the life of a young single woman who is taking care of her crippled brother. Her parents had been killed in an accident - the same one in which her brother was injured. Kate is doing her best to make ends meet, when Sebastian comes along and sweeps her off her feet. But when his secret comes out, will Kate still be able to love him? As I mentioned before, I enjoyed the story itself. Sebastian's kindness, the way he tried to help make her life better without making her a charity case, and how he took her younger brother under his wing. But I was a little bothered by all the sexual intimacy going on. Several times throughout the story there was some heated sensual scenes. It's not usually my preference to read that particular type of content in a book. I sort of got the impression this man had one thing on his mind. Of course, he was in love with Kate.... This content may not bother everyone, but I wouldn't recommend this book for a younger audience. Had the author been a little more discreet, I think I would have enjoyed her book more.
All in all, I am giving this book four stars, because the other stories really were good clean stories. I would love to read another book by Molly Jebber, or ever Amy Lillard. I felt like their stories were true to the Amish traditions I recognize and associate with.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not required to give a positive review.
I have to say right at the start of this review that I am not giving all praise for the first story in this book, but I enjoyed the stories because the stories were wonderful and full of blessings and surprises at Christmas and all three stories involve a sleigh ride which explains the title, we wouldn't expect anything else right.
The three stories are as followed: "A Sleigh Ride On Ice Mountain" by Kelly Long. This story is about Sebastian Christner, a toy maker, and Katie Zook. Katie Zook is taking care of her handicapped brother. He is handicapped from a buggy accident that killed her parents. This is the story that has parts that I consider somewhat too worldly for a Christian novel ( it had a few sensual parts that I was really surprised and shocked to read in a book that I believed to be considered Christian). I don't mind kissing in a novel but when an author writes about a dream and describes it like this author did, I admit I am not happy, yes I know Amish are human and therefore have the same emotions and desires as the rest of us, but I really don't want to read about it! Okay now that I have shared the negative, I want to share the positive. The story line is really fantastic. I love how in the end forgiveness wins. Yes, this story makes the reader believe that what's wrong can be made right if given the chance! I really like this quote from this story "You see, I always think of kaleidoscopes as being a little bit like life and faith-you can take what's broken and meld it together to bring about something new and whole,an ever-changing picture but an unchanging love of yourself and others."
Story Two: "A Mamm for Christmas" by Amy Lillard. This story has Jess Schmucker trying to be both mother and father to his three girls because his wife has died. The teacher tries to intervene with some help but it backfires. I think you will be surprised to learn how and why! I really loved this story and really was hoping the girls would get their mamm for Christmas and I knew right from the start who I wanted that Mamm to be! Now I know you want to know if these girls get their mama and if they get the right one, I know the answers because I read the book and I hope you want to know the answer also so get this book and read it and then we will both know the answers, well what are you waiting for, Read the story!
Story Three: "An Unexpected Christmas Blessing" by Molly Jebber is a wonderful story that brings tears of rejoicing and a few seconds of Oh No,and Not Now! Charity is a widower with two children who lives next door to newcomer Luke and they want a new daed. Luke has a past and I wanted Luke and Charity to get together but once again (like in all stories), a past and another suitor have to enter the story to give a twist to the storyline and keep the reader guessing to what the outcome is going to be. Will it end the way it is suppose to or go another way?
If I had to pick a favorite of the three it would be "An Unexpected Christmas Blessing" which is probably because I read "A Change Of Heart" by Molly Jebber, and both books have a keepsake pocket quilt in the story.
I wish I could give each story a rating because I would give "A Mamm for Christmas" by Amy Lillard and "An Unexpected Christmas Blessing" five stars. "A Sleigh Ride On Ice Mountain" by Kelly Long would get three stars. But since this is one book I am giving it 3 stars. I will continue to read novels and novella by Amy Lillard and Molly Jebber.
I was given a copy of "The Amish Christmas Sleigh" from the Celebrate Lit Blogging Team in exchange for an honest review.
I do enjoy books that several authors contribute to so you get a variety of writing style. This is a great collection of stories that will warm your heart during the holidays and year round.
A Sleigh a Ride on Ice Mountain is about Katie Zock and her young brother who is disabled due to a buggy accident. She tries to make ends meet as best she can, but it is a struggle at times. When she runs into Sebastian Christner she is offered a job as his housekeeper. She accepts it knowing the money will be a much needed relief and help. Sebastian is a toy maker and does amazing work that everyone likes. There seemed to be a big rush to get Sebastian and Katie together and I was somewhat surprised at the sexual implications in the story. The characters are well written and you can't help but love them. Katie uncovers a secret about Sebastian that could pull her away from him. What secret does she find out? Will they find a way to make a lasting relationship? There is a great line in the book that Sebastian says that I thought the author wrote brilliantly. He saud, "I always think of kaleidoscopes as being a little bit like life and faith- you can take what's broken and meld it together to bring about something new and who,e, an ever-changing picture but an unchanging love of yourself and others."
A Mamm for Christmas is a delightful story thst will feel you with warmth and love. Jess Schmucker has three young daughters. Their names are Constance, Hope and Lilly Ruth. They are all hurting from losing their Mamm a year ago. The girls decide it is time to find a new Mamm and they scheme to help their daed find one . I laughed at their shenanigans and their playfulness. Those girls meant business and they have picked out who they want their daed to marry. There is one problem though. Their dad needs to be pushed a little to agree to marry again. Bernice is their teacher and becomes concerned for the girls when they come to school unkempt everyday. What happens when she decides to address the issue with Jess? Will the girls matchmaking work? Will the children have a new Mamm for Christmas? This is a lovely story that will bring a smile to your face. I loved the children and their pure hearts. The writing is so graceful and filled with love and a feeling of hope.
An Unexpected Christmas Blessing is so well written, I couldn't stop reading it. Yes I cried in a few spots and smiled in others. The author has done a great job of sharing the joy of Christmas in a truely remarkable story. Charity Lantz lost her husband and husband and is raising her children, Josiah and Beth on her own. When a new neighbor moves in near her, he becomes a welcome help to Charity. Luke Fisher is a hard working man who moved to get away from a past that has left his heart broken. Will he be able to trust a woman again? I loved the interaction between him and the children. He genuinely likes to be around them and it doesn't hurt that he gets to eat some of Charity's delicious meals . The relationship between Josish and Luke are very special. Josiah hungers for a father and takes to Luke right away. When a disagreement arises between Chariry and Luke in regards to discipline, will that put a stop to their attraction to each other? Take a journey with Charity and Luke and experience hope, forgiveness and love as they try to find happiness .
Thank you to Celebrate Lit for giving me a copy of this book to read for an honest review.
The Amish Christmas Sleigh is a collection of 3 Christmas novellas. Kelly Long's story is A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain. I have not read any of Kelly Long's full length books yet but I do know she has an Ice Mountain series out. Kate Zook is a 26 year old spinster who must work to support her younger special needs brother. Kate is the only family her brother has after their parents were killed in a buggy accident years ago. She takes a job as a housekeeper for a toy-maker by the name of Sebastian Christner. He enjoys her independent spirit and dreams of making her his wife. Things are going well until she cleans his study and finds out about some information he had meant to talk to her about. Can she come to trust him again and will Christmas Love bloom for this couple ?
A Mamma for Christmas by Amy Lillard another author that has many books out but I haven't read a full length one yet. Bernice Yoder is the district's school teacher. She knows , Jess Schmucker is a widower with 3 young daughters. The girls come to school with food stained faces and faded and stained dresses. Concerned, Bernice pays a visit to Jess's house. He sees her as a meddling teacher getting in his way. The girls desperately miss their mother. Jess has a hard time keeping up with taking care of his daughters and the upkeep of the farm. The Christmas program at the girls works it's magic on the teacher and Jess and opens their eyes to the possibility of love.
An Unexpected Christmas Blessing by Molly Jebber is the last story in this novella collection and another new to me author. Charity Lantz is a widow with a young son and daughter. She admits to herself her children need a father. She gets a new neighbor in, Luke Fisher. The children are totally taken by him the first time they meet him. On their first meeting the daughter Beth invites him to dinner. Charity does tell her daughter she can't do that agin without asking her first. When her son is hurt in a barn accident and loses a finger, Luke is their all the way for the family. Charity detects, Luke is holding something back and when she sees another woman with him outside of his house she is hurt and doesn't give him a chance to explain. Another man by the name of , Daniel has been trying to court her as well and wants a mother for his 6 children. The bishop had told Luke that another man may be interested in her and that he should marry her but he hadn't listened now her may be too late . Is he, read it to find out.
This was a great story collection and I enjoyed reading all of these new to me authors. This was a happy feel good Christmas book. I will definitely be reading more books by all of these authors.

My Review: A Sleigh Ride On Ice Mountain: Sebastian lost his joy especially around the holidays. Kate takes real good care of her special needs brother. Taking care of him is her main concern. Things start to develop between Sebastian and Kate but will either of them let it happen naturally or will this be love learned the hard way?
A Mamm For Christmas: Bernice and Jess seem like an unpredictable couple but if Jess could just understand where Bernice is coming from he could see her as well as everything around him in a totally new light.
An Unexpected Christmas Blessing: God is so involved in our lives probably more than we ever realize. Charity just doesn't see where love will ever come her way again. She thought that maybe, that may come in the way of her neighbor but now she isn't so sure.
Love shows up when you aren't really looking for it or at least that has been. God makes things happen in the most unexpected of ways. Each of these couples sees that first hand. I love Amish fiction and the fact that all of these take place around Christmas is even more of a delight. It's only September right now but reading Christmasy books makes me smile!
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.
An Amish Christmas Sleigh contains three delightful Christmas stories.
The First tale is A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain by Kelly Long. Sebastian Christner is a toymaker and needs a housekeeper. Katie Zook is raising her disabled brother, Ben. Sebastian hires Katie as his housekeeper and Ben to assist him in the toy shop. One day while Katie is cleaning she stumbles upon a newspaper article that is earth shattering and changes her thoughts about Sebastian in an unpleasant way. Will Sebastian be able to regain Katie's trust and love? Read this Christmas tale to find out.
A Mamm for Christmas by Amy Lillard is a delightful story about Jess Schmucker. Jess is a widower with three small daughters. He is lonely and his daughters are determine to find a new mother. Bernice Yoder is their school teacher. She goes to Jess's home out of concern for his daughters when they come to school unkempt. Jess is not happy that Bernice interferes. Jess finally decides he needs to find a new wife. His sister tries to set him up but Jess is drawn to Bernice. Read this light hearted story to see how Jess's daughters played a role in who they want for their new mother. Will Jess follow his sister's suggestion for a new wife or his daughters? You'll laugh and cry reading this loving tale.
An Unexpected Christmas Blessing by Molly Jebber will have you drawn into the story from the first past. Molly has this delightful story set in Berlin, OH in the early 1900's. Charity Lantz, is a widow, and has two children, Beth and Josiah. Charity fines her children interacting with their new neighbor, Luke Fisher outside, whom Charity had not met yet. Luke had moved to Berlin, OH from PA. Luke is rather secretive about his past. Charity is gracious to Luke by having him to share evening meals with her and the children, as Beth and Josiah loved Luke from the start as he had a dog and a sled. Luke fines himself drawn to Charity and is happy to assist her with chores. Charity and Luke develops a relationship then events separate them. Luke become jealous when another widower has Charity and the children to his home for Thanksgiving. How will Luke and Charity get back together? You'll have to read this heartwarming and amazing story to see how it unfolds in An Unexpected Christmas Blessing. Plus, Molly has woven a beautiful ending to this wonderful story related to her new series, Keepsake Pocket Quilt.
A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain by Kelly Long is the first I’ve read of this author’s books. This is not your usual Amish fiction as there are sensual parts; however, characters Sebastian Christner, the toymaker and Katie Zook will steal your hearts. Sebastian needs a housekeeper, Katie needs a job as she struggles to care for her 9-year old brother who is disabled from a buggy accident that claimed their parents’ lives. When Katie finds out something from Sebastian’s past, can she learn to trust him again? Will they be able to find happiness together? Gott has a plan for their lives to be sure! A Mamm for Christmas by Amy Lillard is Amish fiction at its best! I enjoyed the precocious trio, Jess Schmucker’s young daughters Constance, Hope and Lilly Ruth. Their mamm has been dead for a year and they want a new mamm, so, as the oldest, Constance realizes her younger sisters are looking to her so she comes up with a plan! Teacher Bernice Yoder decides to visit their dat to inquire about their disheveled appearances, and her meeting does not go well. Jess wonders what else can be done for the girls as he’s doing the best he can and they leave home with clean faces, clothes and hair done. Will Constance’s plan succeed or will the tension between Jess and Bernice cause the plan to fail? Constance believes God has sent Teacher Bernice Yoder as the answer to her prayer but will their dat find out about their plan and make plans of his own? I enjoyed this fun story! An Unexpected Christmas Blessing by Molly Jebber is the first I’ve read by this author. Charity Lantz is a widow left alone to raise Josiah, five and Beth, eight. Will she ever fall in love again or if not, does that mean she’s depriving her children of ever having a daed? New neighbor, Luke Fisher, is very kind to her children and helpful to her. Luke has vowed to never marry again after his wife, Martha, betrayed him which is why he came to Berlin to start a new life. As his friendship with the children and Charity grows, will he be able to keep his resolve to never marry again? When Luke and Charity disagree on how to discipline the children, there are bad feelings and Charity accepts a widower’s invitation to join his family for Thanksgiving. Has Luke lost his opportunity for a family? You’ll enjoy this story of faith, hope and forgiveness.
I like novella collections, especially at this busy time of the year, and found this Amish Christmas romance collection very enjoyable. Family is at the heart of these stories. All three involve winter weather, precious children, romance, and end with a delightful sleigh ride. I tend to romanticize snow because we rarely have it where I live, so these stories were especially fun to read.
A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain by Kelly Long Kelly’s stories always engage me emotionally, and that’s again true in this novella with elements like the death of an infant, Sebastian’s slightly mysterious Englisch friend, Kate’s handicapped brother, Sebastian’s making of toys and visit to a pediatric oncology ward. I loved the ending that brings the prologue with Daniel, Kate's cousin, and Fran full circle. A word of caution, though . . . Although a very enjoyable and clean romance, the Ice Mountain stories published by Kensington tend to push the sensual elements a little further than what we usually find in Christian fiction. Overall, a beautifully moving story.
A Mamm for Christmas by Amy Lillard I loved the romance between Jess and Bernice, even if Jess is blind to what’s right in front of him for most of the story. Bernice is a good, caring person, so easy to connect with. But it’s Constance, Hope and Lilly Ruth who steal the show – three children who miss their deceased mom and attempt to take matters of the heart into their own hands in the most delightful way. Amy’s writing flows easily across the page and I enjoyed her story very much.
An Unexpected Christmas Blessing by Molly Jebber There’s something about Molly’s writing that pulled me right into this sweet story and I loved every minute caught up in its pages. Charity’s children, Josiah and Beth, simply tug at the heartstrings. It was fun to see Luke and Charity’s relationship start as friendship and grow into much more. But best of all was Luke’s bond with the children and his love for them. It was also touching to see the characters praying so easily, just like a natural conversation – which is exactly as it should be! The title of this story resonates beautifully throughout, as everyone found true Christmas blessings that came from God.
Thank you to Molly Jebber and Celebrate Lit for providing this book in exchange for my honest review.
The Amish Christmas Sleigh contains three romantic Christmas stories. The first story is A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain by Kelly Long. Kate Zook is raising her disabled brother, Ben. Money is tight for them. Sebastian C. Christner is a toymaker who needs a housekeeper. He also has a secret. Sebastian offers Kate the job as his housekeeper. Will Kate get past Sebastian’s gruff exterior?
A Mamm for Christmas by Amy Lillard is the second book. Jess Schmucker’s wife has been deceased for one year. He has three small daughters to raise. The teacher, Bernice Yoder tries to assist (especially since the girls are coming to school filthy). Jess, though, is a little too stubborn to accept help. Then he realizes that it is time to marry and get a mother for his children. Will he make the right choice?
Molly Jebber’s An Unexpected Christmas Blessing is the third and final story in the book. It takes place in Berlin, Ohio in 1910. Luke Fisher just moved to Berlin to get a fresh start. He wanted to get away where everyone knew his secret (and his shame). Charity Lantz’ husband has been gone for a year. She is left with raising two children: Beth and Josiah. They are thrilled when Luke moves in next door. Can romance bloom between Charity and Luke? What is Luke’s secret?
The three stories are delightful and easy to read. This book can be enjoyed without having read the other books in the series (but it helps put things in context). I liked the characters in each book, great settings (especially Berlin, Ohio), and fun antics from the children. I liked that the stories are set at Christmas (just makes the stories more magical). I give The Amish Christmas Sleigh 4 out of 5 stars. I especially liked how the sleigh theme was incorporated into each story (especially in A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain). If you like Amish fiction, you will enjoy reading The Amish Christmas Sleigh.
I received a complimentary copy of The Amish Christmas Sleigh from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book overall and had a great time reading it. I've detailed my thoughts of each separate story below.
A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain-- I really wanted to like this book. It has a great storyline and the writing is good, but to be honest, the amount of physical touching and inappropriate thoughts in the book irritated me. This book is supposed to be about an Amish man and woman but with all the physical things it didn't seem to fit. I enjoyed the storyline. I liked how the main character was kind and considerate of the girl he hires in order to help her and her brother. All the characters were well done. I liked this story but because of the physical things in it I give it 3 stars.
A Mamm for Christmas-- This was such a sweet story. I enjoyed every part of it. I loved the little girls in the book. They had such sweet hearts and their mischief made the book humorous. The tension between the man and the woman in the story also made me chuckle a few times. This story's romance element was perfect. There wasn't anything too physical or inappropriate. It was sweet and innocent, as it should be. I enjoyed this story much more than the first and would certainly recommend it. This was my first time reading a book by Amy, and I most certainly will again. This story gets 5 stars.
An Unexpected Christmas Blessing-- I think this story was my favorite! It was such a simple story of a man new to town helping out a widow and her young children. But the story was wonderful. Molly's writing is great and I really enjoyed this story. There is romance, but it is sweet and subtle. I loved all the characters in the book. They were all believable and seemed like real people to me. I loved that Charity in the book was kind to her children but she was also strong and capable. Luke was a perfect gentleman and was great to her kids. Molly's writing has made me very excited to read another book by her. I highly recommend Molly and her books to others. This story gets 5 stars also. I was blessed to receive this book from the CelebrateLit blogging program in exchange for my review. A positive review was not required.
My favorite out of all three was the book in the middle. So I will review it first.
A Mamm for Christmas Amy Lillard
This book flowed smoothly keeping my interest throughout. The emotions of grieve over losing a loved one and then the loneliness of not having a mate to share life journeys, were described so perfectly. I felt hope for Jess as he finally realized that he could love again and struggled to find the right person.
To me what made this book so enjoyable were the sisters of this book. The three daughters of Jess reminded me of my sister and me when we were little. The oldest daughter, Constance, was my favorite. She was thoughtful, convinced that she was always right, had repentance when she was wrong, and loved being the ringleader.
I don't want to forget Jess's younger sister Reba. She was willing to help, gave him that extra push when needed, and then knew when to leave.
Really the man didn't have a chance!
Wonderful read!
AN UNEXPECTED CHRISTMAS BLESSING Molly Jebber
A romance with a little bit of suspense helped to make this book a enjoyable read.
I could relate to the feelings Charity had with her children. It would be so difficult trying to find them a caring Father. Then to relinquish some of the control she had for a while over their well-being would be so hard. She remains strong throughout and admits to her mistakes.
The story flowed well for the most part. I did have a little problem when the doctor was mentioned several times as being so withdrawn. Not even a little clue was given as to the answer. It would have been great if this was expanded on.
A great story overall!
A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain Kelly Long
This will be I think my shortest review ever of a book. Let me say first the storyline was good and it was mostly a clean romance. Everyone once in a while though a few sensual sentences were included. Needless to say I was quite disappointed and surprised they were there. I felt they were not needed. What a great story it would have been without them!.
I must admit that I do LOVE the Christmas season and all of the feelings that arise within me at this time of year. Joy, faith, the invaluable gift that was given to us all make me feel the happiness that reigns throughout this holiday. Commercialism may have taken over through the media, however, deep within, the true meaning of Christmas overcomes all.
I also must admit that novellas are not my favorite books to read. There is always a desire to read more left behind!! This book, I am happy to say , was the exception ! Each story involved a Christmas sleigh and carried this common theme smoothly and left me happy and satisfied. Each of these authors is a talented writer who uses her own unique writing methods resulting in a great Christmas read. For those of us who love the Amish fiction genre, this book simply warms our hearts and souls.
Love, romance, happiness is evident in each novella. My faith in human nature was strengthened as I read of desired love, when you least expect it. Following God's plan is so important, as each story unravelled. Unexpected blessings abound when we let God lead.
The characters are all described so realistically and in such detail, that the reader becomes totally immersed in their lives, challenges, trials and yes, their joys too. Many have little quirks that appeal to our sense of humor, making it easy to become their best friends.
The plots are well developed and keep the reader engrossed from beginning to end. The common theme of the sleigh connected the stories in a unique and different way. Although each novella had its own events, the common thread keeps you connected throughout.
The true meaning of Christmas shines through all authors' writings, reminding us of God's love and compassion, supplying us with exactly what we need, when we need it!!
I highly recommend this book to all readers. Definitely deserving of five stars!!
This book was supplied by the author, Molly Jebber, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
As you probably figured out a sleigh is each a focus in each of these novellas and that is the tie in of the stories. The first story by Kelly Long returns us to Ice Mountain, and familiar characters, that I have come to know in other books. This story focus on a young Amish woman Kate Zook whose parents had been killed in a buggy accident, and her young brother injured so he is unable to walk. She has the chance of a lifetime when Sebastian Christner, a handsome bachelor and woodworker, offers her a job of maid, and an apprenticeship to her brother. There are secrets here, and most are kept by Sebastian, how will Kate react when she finds out? Can there be a relationship between the two? An enjoyable quick read! I found the second book An Unexpected Christmas Blessing, a really cute and delightful read. They have been without a mother for three years and want their father to remarry, and wait until you see the lengths they go to. They decide whom they want and are rather upset when their Dad decides on someone else. You have to read this in one sitting, it is so cute and quite funny in places, and I wanted to keep on reading when it ended! The third book An Unexpected Christmas Blessing was one I really enjoyed, a man running from his past and shame, and a widow and children hurting from the lost of their husband and dad. What a blessing Luke immediately makes in their lives and is quickly accepted by the children, they are longing for a father. There is also another lonely widower with six children her longing for a new mom, and being without one is disastrous in their lives. I did have some questions about the community and their acceptance of divorce and remarriage, also the verbal praying. While questioning these practices, I did enjoy the story. You won’t regret picking up this delightful quick read! I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review.
All three novellas are about Amish characters; the characters feel like they are not good enough to have a relationship with anyone for one reason or another. Or maybe they have too much going on in their lives to even think about courtship.
Fate has it's own way of intervening in one's life. It has a way of saying that the time is right, regardless of what we think and or going through at the time.
Each novella has a common item in it. That common item was a Christmas sleigh. Each one different, but Amish hand-made and or passed down through the Amish family.
I enjoyed each novella that made up "The Amish Christmas Sleigh'. Each novella had it's own way of presenting an Amish Christmas Sleigh. I highly recommend this book to be read this Christmas season. I look forward to reading more books by each of these authors in the future.
I received a free kindle copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. No money was exchanged. This is my honest review in my own words.
"The Amish Sleigh" is three stories who find happiness and love at Christmas. This book is composed of three Novella's by three different authors and these are Amish stories, which make it into a cute collection perfect for the upcoming Christmas Holiday.
Kelly Long writes a A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain. This story is a very contemporary Amish fiction, which appeals to those who maybe are just starting to read Amish fiction. Some may have found the contents of this story to be questionable, but I enjoyed it.
A Mamm for Christmas by Amy Lillard was a heartwarming story about three small girls. This was a very enjoyable read and I found myself feeling invited into the lives of the characters. Having never read a book by Amy before, I would love to read more as I found this story to be great! It was inspiring, heartwarming and made me want to keep turning the pages.
The final story in the collection was An Unexpected Christmas Blessing by Molly Jebber. The story was great as I liked the characters and the story line, but I felt that the story line was choppy in certain places, which left me feeling a bit frustrated. Since the flow felt off at times, it made it hard for me to find depth to the story line. I am not sure if it was my own personal view of the story or if it was actually the way it was written. I struggled through this story.
Overall, if you're a fan of Amish Fiction, you will like these short Novella's , especially if you like Christmas!
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to review this book.
I am really a sucker for Christmas stories. I love reading them this time of year so when I saw this one with three stories in one book, I knew I had to read it. And it was more like devouring it:) The third story was my favorite (might have something to do with the name of the heroine) and the middle novella was a close second but they were all really good.
A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain is by one of my favorite authors, Kelly Long. Her books are known to somewhat push the boundaries and they definitely have some spice in them. This one I think pushed the edge a bit more than the rest of hers I have read and at times I wasn't quite sure if I should continue reading it. There is an instance where the hero is dreaming but he grabs the heroine and starts kissing her, and it continues to the point of groping her. Um, just a bit much for me?
A Mamm for Christmas was hysterically funny. The widower has three little girls who are most adorable but what they do to get themselves a mother for Christmas is the cherry on top. I don't want to give anything away so you will have to read the book yourself to find out what the conniving gals do:)
And lastly was my personal favorite, An Unexpected Christmas Blessing. Charity (What a name :D) is a widow with two young and rambunctious children who kind of adopt the man who moves in next door. Oh, and his dog who they love to death. When the little girl corrects Luke for wanting his dessert before dinner I just laughed. So like our family! This one has a fun but warm tone to it.
*Disclosure* I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. All thoughts are 100% mine.
A SLEIGH RIDE ON ICE MOUNTAIN For solitary toy-maker Sebastian Christner, hiring Kate Zook as his new housekeeper is simply the right thing to do. Now she can support her special-needs brother. But one taste of her independent spirit is showing him undreamed-of holiday joy---and making him long to give her a home for always...
A MAMM FOR CHRISTMAS Bernice Yoder has far too much to do to entertain holiday dreams.
AN UNEXPECTED CHRISTMAS BLESSING As much as Charity Lantz's children need a father, the young widow isn't sure her new neighbor Luke Fisher can ever be the right choice. They're having more disagreements than snowflakes in December. Besides, he's never given a sign he wants to be more than friends. Can Gott show them them a way past their misunderstandings to a forever love?
MY REVIEW Loved this book, three of my favorite authors, couldn't go wrong. I so enjoy the novellas, the short stories, and you have to enjoy Christmas stories with a sleigh involved. I can highly recommend this collection of Amish stories as very good Christmas reads. You won't disappointed.
It is a few days before Thanksgiving. It snowed over 5 inches of snow this weekend. I had a good cup of tea and the book titled “The Amish Christmas Sleigh” to read. I settled in and completed this book of three stories in less than two days.
I have never read anything by these three authors – Kelly Long, Amy Lillard, and Molly Jebber. But I will look out for these three authors in the future.
In each story, one of the characters holds on to a secret that haunts them. They have difficulty in getting through a difficult time. They can't let go of the past. Someone enters their lives that make them confront their fears and grab onto their last chance of happiness.
An actual sleigh is part of each story. I believe the sleigh represents being free of the fears, the doubts, the worries. When you are sleighing you are closer to nature and you are feeling the excitement of the ride. You feel the cold air hitting your cheeks and you are not worried about anything. It’s fun and you are exhilarated. After the ride, you are relaxed and ready to sit back with that cup of cocoa. This is what it feels when you resolve a problem. You are happy, excited about tomorrow and so relieved.
I enjoyed this collection. I loved that each story ended on a happy note. A delightful holiday read. ****
The Amish Christmas Sleigh is a book that has three different fantastic novellas by three great authors. Each novella involves a Christmas Sleigh and has its own special message.
A Sleigh Ride On Ice Mountain by Kelly Long shows an independent young woman caring for her special-needs brother. Also, there's a man that's a loner with a secret and both need each other. Can they overcome their personal problems to have a special love?
A Mamm For Christmas by Amy Lillard is a precious story of three small girls looking for a Mamm and it would be a great Christmas gift. They believe the schoolteacher would be the right person. Will it work?
An Unexpected Christmas Blessing by Molly Jebber is a story about a young widow and two small children that need a husband and father. A single man moves next door, but they have more disagreements than neighborly friendship. Can they overcome their differences?
I love and thoroughly enjoyed reading each novella in this book. The Amish Christmas Sleigh is a fantastic book that is fun to read. Each novella is written by a great author and I definitely recommend reading this book.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. This review is one hundred percent my opinion.
Three powerful stories guaranteed to bring the Christmas spirit to your house! In "A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain", Kate Zook and her disabled brother meet toy-maker Sebastian Christner. A loner, Sebastian makes time for them when he hires Kate as his housekeeper and allows her brother into his workshop. You'll be cheering for a "happily ever after" in "A Mamm for Christmas" when three young daughters plot to unite their widowed father and their beloved teacher. In "An Unexpected Christmas Blessing", Charity Lantz's new next door neighbor provides a caring hand with her children and some needed household repairs, but what is keeping him from falling in love with her? The answer is in God's hands and he will provide. Faith and hope leap off the pages of each story. The wonderful descriptions of life on Ice Mountain, the snowy backdrop with good food, good cheer and sleigh rides adds the perfect seasonal touch to the stories. This book would be a wonderful stocking stuffer!
Authors Kelly Long, Amy Lillard, and Molly Jebber have come together and created a beautiful Christmas book, The Amish Christmas Sleigh, which inlcudes the following stories A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain, A Mamm for Christmas, and An Unexpected Christmas Blessing. This book has three fun and heart-warming Christmas stories, filled with holiday cheer and romance within the Amish community. Each story has its own flavor of holiday spirit with delightful storylines and charming characters that readers will love from the first page of each story. I would recommend this novel to readers that enjoy Amish-holiday books.

Each of these stories in this book were enjoyable on their own and put them all together it makes for a very good book. I do not know if I could pick a favorite story in this book as I thought they were all enjoyable. Although the second story was very cute with all the children and their antics. If you are looking for a good book to help you get in the mood for the holiday season then I suggest you pick this book up. In the first story I really liked Ben and his good attitude that seemed to spread to others. Kate was a strong women that has a good heart. In the second book, I felt for Jess and his trying to raise his girls on his own. I thought it was nice of Bernice to try to help out. In the last book, your heart poured out for Charity and the loss of her husband and trying to move on. Each of these stories pulled at your heart strings. A good set of stories.
I enjoyed reading this collection of Christmas stories. There's something about the Christmas theme that brings a special spirit. The cold snowy setting is fascinating to me since I've never lived in snow before! The characters in A Sleigh Ride on Ice Mountain were multi-layered, there was more than meets the eye to Kate and Sebastian. A Mamm for Christmas featured some scheming children and their completely oblivious father. It was sweet how Bernice fell in love with the whole family. A similar plot was found in An Unexpected Christmas Blessing, but Luke is the one fighting the idea of marriage. This is a collection that fans of Amish fiction will want to read for the holiday season.
