Sinful Knights #4

Tattooed Envy

Rate this book
Kieran was eighteen when his stepdad betrayed him, outing him to a mother who disowned him on the spot. Ten years later, after flunking medical school, he’s a tattooist in London’s financial district. His friends are finding love and settling down. Kieran knows that’s not his future. Men want his body, and nothing more, and believing that’s all he deserves, he is happy to serve them.

Derek owns The Back Room, London’s most notorious gay club, and carries two failed marriages and one unforgivable mistake: Kieran. When their lives collide for the first time in a decade, Derek barely recognises the sharp‑tongued brat standing before him… but he likes what he sees, even if that’s all kinds of wrong.

When a handsome mobster takes a shine to Kieran, Derek’s jealousy spirals. Before he can share his growing feelings, Kieran is brutally attacked. The only place he feels safe is in Derek’s arms. Determined to protect him, Derek buries his forbidden desire, unaware that Kieran has felt the same way for years.

As Kieran recovers, they can’t ignore the pull between them, but can Derek give the young man what he needs? Or will Kieran push Derek away before he gets the chance to prove that he’s worthy of love?

Wow. This book was definitely heavier than the previous ones. The topics in this book were serious topics that unfortunately millions of people go through.

What Kieran went through shouldn’t have happened. His mother was such a witch. She basically sentenced him to a life of struggles and abuse by disowning him.

Kieran had to fend for himself by any means necessary and that put him in the most vulnerable and dangerous situations that eventually led him to be forever changed. After all he went through, he convinced himself he wasn’t worthy of being loved by anyone and therefore was ok with being used.

For the longest time, he blamed what happened to him on Derek. He couldn’t forgive Derek for what his mother did to him and he felt betrayed by the person he trusted most.

Derek never knew what had really happened to Kieran. He thought Kieran was doing ok and assumed the last thing he wanted was to see Derek. If only Derek had gone after him, things would have gone differently for Kieran.

When they meet again after ten years, there are so many different emotions going through Derek. Emotions that he shouldn’t be feeling for his former stepson but ones he can’t help but feel.

For Kieran, seeing Derek again was like a shock to the system. He was torn between wanting to cuss him out or run into his arms. Derek was his bi-awakening and his crush for him did not diminish with time, if anything, it got stronger.

When Kieran is once again taken advantage of, Derek is ready to burn down the world. He can’t deny his feelings for him anymore. He wanted to protect Kieran at all costs and show him he was worth keeping.

Kieran never thought he have someone to love him for him despite his past, much less that Derek would be the one to love him. It had always been him and to finally have that dream come true was everything he deserved.

“𝑰’𝒎 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒂𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖’𝒓𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝑰 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍. 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝑰 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒇𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝑲𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒏?”

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, I love this series so much. Oliver has become one of my favorite authors because he writes such beautiful, inspiring stories that just suck you in. In so glad to have found him.

Kieran truly broke my heart with all he's had to deal with, starting with a nasty mum and moving on to some unhealthy situations. Thankfully he does have some great friends that are really found family - which I love - and he is a talented tattooist. He is now a snarky, submissive brat with some anger issues.
Derek is seventeen years older than Kieran, his former step dad, and happens to be Kieran's gay awakening. He's always felt guilty for his part in how things with Kieran's mum went down, and so angry at his ex that he immediately divorced her. He is now owner of a gay club and exudes confidance and dom control.
Ten years later they reconnect, bringing forth all the guilt and anger that it takes a bit before Kieran is willing to actually discuss what truly happened and hear what Derek has to say. Again, Kieran's mum is a nasty piece of work! Derek feels overly protective of Kieran, but he is also beginning to feel other things towards him. As for Kieran, the crush his sixteen year old self had is still strong as ever.
While they are being civil and talking things out, a horrific event takes place and has Kieran running to Derek to feel safe and protected. The care Derek gives goes a long way to healing Kieran, and after more time together they grow closer, until intimacy enters their relationship. They still take time together, growing their connection and developing a deep enough love that sets them on their hard earned, but very satisfying HEA.
Mixed in with all the seriousness and sexiness of this book are some laughs and some great secondary characters that added a lot of depth to the story. This is book four in the series, but can be read as a standalone. Characters from previous books do make appearances, but it's not necessary to have read those books to be able to enjoy this one.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. There are some darker themes so pay attention to the TW's, but know that they are balanced with steamy sexy times and laughs.

I received an ARC from the author, this review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

What a Book I’ve gone through every single emotion possibly with this book. It is hard hitting and my heart goes out for Kieran. What an amazing young man. Thrown out from his home by his mother because he was gay made his way to London and now 10 years later he is a amazing tattoo artist. But he has scars scars from them 10 years but he gets on with his life. He’s got two amazing best friends & roommates that he calls Mum and Dad because that’s how they care for each other they are a family. There are other friends but the roommates seem to be a massive part of Kieran‘s life. As he got ready for pride parade he never imagined he would see the one face he hates. Hates his strong words, but Kieran has his reasons. It’s his ex stepdad Derek. The stepdad he had fantasised about in his early teens.
Derek owns a sex Club called the back room in the middle of London and generally life was good. He enjoyed the work that he did. His friendship he had with his best friend Edward that he hoped one Day would be Prime Minister. Derek is bisexual and he gets the shock of his life when he sees Kieran. He has a lot of guilt about Kieran but it seems that Kieran just doesn’t want to talk to him. Derek is a Dom and he sees that Kieran is a submissive. Derek can’t help his body that is reacting to Kieran. Can Derek help him?
Right I don’t want to give away any storylines but there is so much going on a lot going on. This Book had me angry for Kieran for Derek for different reasons but I just could not put this Book down. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and this one is the best so far I think I’ve probably said that about the others but wow, what an author how he manages to get so many feelings written on the page. Simply brilliant I will tell you that there is some sizzling passion in these pages but for once that’s not what interest me I was interested in these two men. I was sad when I got to the end of it I just wanted to start the Book all over again.
I received a ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

When your first crush walks back into your life

Kieran is our sweet, troubled and bratty bottom. He is also a fantastic tattoo artist. He is one of those you want to wrap up and protect. Especially from people like Domtop69. His life got really hard when he was outed and his mother disowned him.

Derek is our dominant smex club owner who has a very sweet and caring side. He is the unfortunate reason that Kieran was outed. He is also his former stepfather.

When the universe decided these two needed to come back together it was quite the experience. Both of them have changed significantly. Derek used to be a corporate lawyer and now Kieran is this bleach blond guy covered in tattoos. They have some mutual acquaintances that also facilitate them coming together more and more. Getting past the age gap and the fact that they used to be family takes some extra pushes from the universe and an incident that never should have happened.

I love how Derek was a safe place for Kieran even while they were internally struggling with the attraction they both had. When Kieran dealt with a terrible situation and his best friend was away he immediately ran to Derek. He was quick to help and was more than happy to hold him.

This was such a sweet relationship. Derek is careful with what he gives Kieran because he knows how to deal with the trauma and the fact that he has used submission to deal with everything he has Bern through.

Shout out to Grant who I definitely hated at first. He was pushy and dangerous but he turned out to be a really good guy who makes up for any failures in spectacular ways.

I absolutely loved the relationship these two built. It was the perfect fit for both of them. It gave them both the exact amount of the lifestyle they needed without it having to be all or nothing.

Kieran absolutely broke my heart in this book. From surviving a cruel, manipulative mother to navigating one unhealthy situation after another, his journey is heavy but incredibly compelling. Thankfully, he’s built a small circle of true found‑family friends, and his talent as a tattoo artist gives him a place where he can finally breathe. He’s snarky, reactive, and still carrying a lot of hurt, which makes watching him grow all the more rewarding. Derek, seventeen years older and once Kieran’s stepfather, is the source of so much of Kieran’s early confusion and longing. He was Kieran’s gay awakening, and he’s spent a decade weighed down by guilt over how things with Kieran’s mother fell apart. Now he owns a gay club and carries himself with confidence and steady control. Their reunion ten years later brings all the old wounds to the surface, and it takes time before Kieran is ready to face the truth of what happened — and before Derek can finally say what he’s held inside for years. Just as they begin rebuilding trust, a traumatic event sends Kieran running straight to Derek for safety. Derek’s care becomes a turning point in Kieran’s healing, and from there their connection grows slowly and meaningfully. Their intimacy feels earned, and the love they build is hard‑won but incredibly satisfying. Despite the darker themes, the story balances the intensity with humor, warmth, and a cast of secondary characters who add real depth. This is book four in the series, but it works perfectly as a standalone. Characters from earlier books appear, but you won’t feel lost if you haven’t read them.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It handles tough topics with care, offers genuine character growth, and blends emotional weight with steamy moments and well‑timed laughs.

💚 Tattooed Envy by Oliver Takely 💚

“The one thing he was certain about was that he wanted this man by his side.”

this was a spicy, sweet, yet heartbreaking read!

Kieran is our troubled tattoo artist MC who is a bit of a brat (okay, maybe more than ‘a bit’ haha) and has been through more shit than he deserves. i want to just wrap him up and never let him go 🥺
Derek is our dominant sex club owner MC who lives in regret after outing Kieran to his mother years ago, resulting in him being disowned by her, getting kicked out, and having to deal with some devastating circumstances. oh… and did I mention that Derek used to be Kieran’s stepdad.. who he had a crush on? talk about dramaaaa.

one day, the universe decides to reunite Kieran and Derek, and both have changed significantly. Kieran has bleached his hair and is covered in tattoos.. completely different than how Derek knew him as a teen. and Derek.. well.. he’s now single and owns a sex club, a dramatic difference from his old job (being a corporate lawyer 😅).
will they be able to get past what happened? why did Derek out Kieran, anyways?

i won’t spoil much, but i do wanna say FUCK YOU to Domtop69, and give my apologies to Grant Kincaid, because i really thought i was gonna hate that guy hahahaha

i really enjoyed it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Emotional and heartbreaking

Let me start by saying that my favourite of Oliver's books is Stolen Dream, starring Paolo and Max. Their story gutted me and I never thought that anyone would overtake them. Kieran and Derek, however, came very close.
Kieran intrigued me from the moment we met him previously. He looks and acts like the archetypal bad boy but he's just a wounded sweetheart. His backstory is horrendous, as we slowly learn more details throughout. Just have to say his mother deserves a trip to Grant's warehouse (which I'm sure you'll agree with once you've read this). Unfortunately, it's not just historical nightmares but the real graphic stuff is fade to black, thank goodness.
Derek did something unconscionable. He was the adult but failed his stepson so badly and, incredibly, didn't think properly about the fallout. He had a lot to atone for, and although Kieran rightly didn't make it easy for him to begin with, I kind of wish he'd made Derek really grovel because Kieran was owed so much more from him. That being said, I loved them together and was so glad Kieran finally had someone prove to him that he was worth loving and keeping.
As with all Oliver's books, the found family aspect is at the heart of his stories. All his books are set in the same world and there's a lot of crossover. You don't need to read them all but you're going to want to, not least because you never know when our favourite mob boss is going to make an appearance!

Wow this story truly hurt my heart. Please check your TW
Kieran my gosh yes my gosh!! What he endured as an adolescent to adulthood broke my heart. Being kicked out by his mom (she’s vicious) and learning how to survive. Being young he made some mistakes that came with some harsh reality’s. He’s never had a relationship he felt Bobby wanted him so he only did hook ups he’s a pretty famous tattoo artist he found his passion. He goes to meek up with his bestie and comes across his ex stepdad he’s angry and hurt.

Derek is the most caring man I have read. He’s an owner of a sex club as well as a dom. He holds a lot of regrets and guilt for what happened to Kieran. Finding out the truth to what really happened broke his heart. When something horrible happens to Kieran he’s there for him in every way that matters. Eventually he finds out the whole story and to why Kieran feels nobody would want him. Derek truly treated him with so much tender loving care.

Derek and Kieran might not have the conventional relationship but it’s a beautiful love story of acceptance healing and forgiveness.

Kieran was a pre-med student now tattoo artist. Kieran's story on how this change of events occurred was heartbreaking to read and has made permanent marks on his soul and heart. Kieran does not feel like he will ever deserve love or happiness all while his friends are coupling up around him.

When Kieran finds himself face to face with his former stepdad Derek who betrayed him, he walks away. Will Derek get the chance to apologise and possibly provide some answers, or will he continue to have the regrets as he has had for the past ten years when Kieran's mum kicked him out of the house.

Kieran's sexual kinks are what he believes he needs to make him aroused but is that what he thinks he deserves or has he not met anyone who values and cherishes him the way he deserves.

Even though this book can be read as a standalone, Tattooed Envy is the fourth book in Sinful Knights series. With the other characters mentioned in this book, I will be going back to read their stories as I expect they will be just as wonderful to read as this book was. I hope Hassan's story in the fifth book.

4.75 ⭐️ read! Where do I even begin? I was hooked within the first few chapters. The emotional depth of this story was evident from the start, and I could truly feel what the characters were experiencing throughout the book. The author did an excellent job developing the characters and weaving together their relationships in a way that felt authentic and meaningful.
Kieran, in particular, stood out to me. His struggles with vulnerability, opening up, and navigating intimacy felt incredibly genuine and relatable. The emotional journey he goes through was one of the strongest aspects of the novel.
At first, I found myself a little confused by the introduction of some characters and storylines, but by the end, everything came together beautifully. The payoff was worth it, and while many threads are tied together, the story still leaves readers with things to reflect on long after the final page.
If you enjoy slow-burn romances, age-gap dynamics, and a touch of forbidden romance, this is definitely one to add to your TBR. I highly recommend picking it up when it releases.

Kieran's story is an emotional one from the very beginning. After being outed by his stepfather and abandoned by his mother, his dreams of becoming a doctor are shattered, leaving him convinced that love and happiness aren't meant for him. Watching him carry those scars into adulthood was heartbreaking, and I couldn't help but root for him to finally see his own worth.

The reunion between Kieran and Derek is filled with years of regret, unresolved emotions, and difficult conversations. Derek knows he failed Kieran in the past, and seeing him try to make amends while battling his own feelings made for a compelling emotional journey. I also appreciated how the story explored Kieran's self-worth and the difference between accepting what you think you deserve and discovering what you truly need from someone who genuinely cares.

Although this is the fourth book in the Sinful Knights series, it worked well as a standalone. The supporting cast added warmth and humour, and they definitely made me want to go back and read the earlier books. A heartfelt, angsty romance about forgiveness, healing, and finding the courage to believe you're worthy of love.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Tattooed Envy (Sinful Knights #4) by Oliver Takely
I loved Tattooed Envy! This book delivered everything I enjoy in a romance—emotion, angst, healing, found family, and a second-chance love story. From the first chapter, I was invested in Kieran and Derek’s journey.
Kieran has endured more than his share, but he still holds onto his spark. His snarky humor, talent as a tattoo artist, and the family he’s built around himself made him easy to love.
Then there’s Derek—seventeen years older and, complicating things further, once his stepfather. Their shared past is painful and full of misunderstandings. Kieran has every reason to resent him, yet he’s never been able to fully let go of the feelings he’s carried.
Watching them work through their history, rebuild trust, and slowly open up to each other was deeply satisfying. Oliver Takely captures their emotional journey with care, making every conversation and setback feel real. Seeing Kieran finally find safety and peace with Derek was beautiful to see.
A solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read!

lumbersnack, Tomatoes! Tomatoes! Tomatoes!, Project Daddy, Zone 2, airport baggage carousel, mother's Dom, prosthetic penises, a smack & a squeal, food & orgasms, Papa = green, UK First Gentleman

This is kinky, dark, and angsty. Make sure to read the content/trigger warnings first. In spite of that, it's a heartwarming story at its core. The pace is smooth and quick. I found myself reading too quickly. I deliberately had to slow down so I didn't miss anything important. It's that intriguing and exciting.

At first I thought Kieran was a punk. He's actually a brat who is dealing with trauma and a lot of emotional pain so he can't see his own worth. His friends and found family constantly tell him otherwise. He just can't see it and doesn't believe them.

Derek has a regretful past. He spots his former stepson after ten long years and is determined to apologize and reconcile. As expected, Kieran is highly resistant. But after ten years, people change.

This is really a good and enjoyable book. I recommend it.

Tattooed Envy is the fourth book in Sinful Knights series.

Kieran is a tattoo artist who doesn't mince words. He's had a really tough life. We know him as Milo and Liam's roommate.

All the characters in the author’s books end up appearing in one way or another in other books, and I love that, because if you’ve read them, you know who they are, and if you haven’t, it piques your curiosity.

His mother kicked him out of the house when he was very young, and he’s been through a lot. Derek is his former stepfather and his sexual awakening.

Ten years after Kieran's mother kicked him out of the house, they meet again, but his reaction is one of rejection, he harbors a lot of resentment. Until it turns into something else.

Obviously, I want Hassan's story.

The Sinful Knights are quickly growing on me and becoming a favorite. I wasn't sure how I felt about this spin-off but the more I read, the more I love. Derek and Kieran are a taboo pairing of former step parent and child. Derek made an error in judgement which changed the entirety of Kieran's life. Their worlds come together in a most unexpected way and it blindsides them both for what it means for their future. There's found family, family found, heart wretching realization and conversation and a well earned HEA. I loved how well Derek owns his error and while it was a series of unfortunate circumstances, he still owns his role. Kieran has a tough life and I highly recommend reading the TW because I wanted to punch many a wall as his story unfolded. But the friendship and banter as well as run ins with some Soho and Sinful Knights plus an unexpected ally makes for a well rounded story.

ARC review
I love this amazing and messy read full of hurt-comfort. It's hevy, but also full of sweet moments, love and spicy times.
Kieran has had a few rockey years. Shunned by his mother and betrayed by his stepdad. He is angry and hurt and this is affecting his life. This sweet boy who has no self worth is trying to keep his life together. Luckily he has the support of good friends and work he truly enjoy.
This is quite hevy reading in many ways. The way Kieran was treated in his youth has really affected his life as a grown up and made him feel undeserving in every way. When he crosses path with Derek, his stepdad, things changes. After learning about the truth of what happened back in his younger years he can start to process everything.
I really enjoyed this book, it's a page turner. Oliver Takely is an amazing author with a lot of depts to his writing. Highly recommendable.

Review of ARC received from the author.

Oh my goodness. This was a wonderful, bittersweet story. Kieran has blamed his stepfather, Derek, for the bad things that happened in his life, because when Kieran came out to his mother, she disowned him and sent him away, to live on the streets which led to some irreversible things happening to Kieran. He thought it wouldn't have happened if Derek had never encouraged him to do that.

Many years later, Derek is running a club and Kieran is a tattoo artist. They have mutual friends, unknown to both of them and they meet each other again. Derek gets to find out what happened, and to explain what was done to him - he never knew what Kieran's mother had done. Kieran believed he wasn't good enough for anyone, though he had some great friends, but Derek manages to make him believe he is worth more than he thinks. A really wonderful love story.

I honestly had no clue where this book was going which was a pleasant surprise. Kieran had been through so much that getting to know more of his past made it so much easier to understand why he was bratty. I loved how patient Derek was and how protective he felt about Kieran. Grant surprised me, assumed he’d be the one targeting Kieran which led me to not even think that Carl would potentially be the guy Kieran needed to escape. And seeing how kind Grant was in his own way was honestly a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed the few moments we got to see Langdon in the story. Although this is only the second book I’ve read in this series I love how deeply the sibling relationships are like with Josh and Carly, Omar and Hassan, and Kieran and Kelly. All in all I enjoyed this!

Super spicy romance between tattoo artist, Kiernan and club owner, Derek.

Kiernan has been taking care of himself for a long time - ever since his mother threw him out once she learned he was gay. She learned this from his step-dad, Derek. When he runs into Derek again - a friend of the couple from the first book - he is understandably upset. With time, they both come to understand how many lies both of them were told, and also begin to be attracted to each other.

There's lots of dom/sub in this book (but not real BDSM). The bad graphic stuff takes place off screen.

Enjoyed this one, as I have enjoyed the others in this series.

Kieran ran into his former stepdad Derek, the stepdad who outed him to his mom, got him kicked out with no support and the one he always had fantasies about. Derek apologized, explained what really happened and tried to help Kieran now. Both crave each other with Derek fighting it morally and Kieran trying to seduce him. It's hot, complicated and oh, so steamy. They are meant to be together like PB&J, perfectly with Kieran 's traumatic past and Derek's understanding and patience. It's all connected to Oliver's Sinful Knights and Soho Knights. I received a copy of this and this is my voluntary opinion.

My Review:
Kieran and Derek had a complicated relationship. Derek outed Kieran and got him kicked out not knowing that would be the outcome. Kieran has bad feelings toward him now. But 10 years later they see each other again because they have mutual friends in common. It is complicated at first but they talk and get past what happened years ago. And Kieran has a scary admirer and Derek is there to keep him safe. I enjoyed this book it was a little taboo but a quick and easy read!

Kieran broke my heart. His story gutted me. He deserved his happy ending so much. I do always love the taboo aspect of the step parent falling for the stepson. That was fun, but this story, in particular, hurt. I was pleased with how Grant handled things in this book. I get more and more interested in reading his story as books proceed. Derek was so protective and great for Kieran. My favorite thing in particular this author does is build the best found families. I also love that characters crossover from other series. The found family in this book is another win.

This is an age gap romance with a very bratty sub. Kieran and Derek’s story is a slow burn with a backstory that slowly reveals their trauma. Kieran wants nothing to do with Derek, but when circumstances bring them together, they both can’t deny their attraction (steamy times ahead). I really liked how the dom/sub storyline was handled. The side characters and found family were also an interesting addition that leaves you wanting to read their books (which are available). Thank you to author Oliver Takely for the early copy.

I am new to the series and the author; I have become a fan. This was such a good book. Kieran, this sweet thing, gave me all the feels. I was deeply touched by his story and what he has gone through. When Derek, his ex-stepfather, reenters his life and all of the hurt and pain hits Kieran again. Can he forgive Derek and move on. They must navigate their feelings, but they do get there. Great moments, emotional breakthroughs and a happy ending. Who could ask for more. A pleasure to read. * I received an advance copy and voluntarily reviewed.

If you start this book, make sure you have a box of tissues.

It describes so well what it does to you when your foundation consists of anything but love and acceptance. When you are in survival mode from a young age.

But also what it does to someone who discovers that the truth wasn't the truth and feels guilty about it.

Finding the way to each other and caring for one another makes for a very good story.

💞Thank you to the Author for the opportunity to read and review this ARC💖

Tattooed Envy is the fourth book in the Sinful Knights series, it can be read as a standalone but I liked it better reading it in order. This is a slow burn, age gap, hurt/comfort, emotional read about Kieran and Derek. I have really enjoyed this series from the beginning but this one was hard to read, not because of anything bad about it, it was just full of hard realities that Kieran has to go through to get his HEA with Derek. I can't wait for the next one in the series.
