Meg Mackenzie is back at her family’s Wyoming dude ranch for one to save her horse. She isn’t planning to stay, and she can't wait to return to the Alaskan wilderness.
Casper Pembroke is a disgraced British financier who booked a luxury ski trip and mistakenly ended up at a dude ranch. He's completely out of his element, and finds himself stuck with a sharp-tongued cowgirl who seems to enjoy his discomfort.
But when a dangerous blizzard traps them together just before Christmas, they're forced to rely on each other to survive. As they face down the storm and old ghosts, they might just find that the love they've both been running from is the only thing that can bring them home.
"A Cowgirl for Christmas" is the charming first novella in the clean and cozy Snow Place Like Home novella trilogy.
Thank you Cracked Pepper Books for the copy of A Cowgirl for Christmas.
"Turns out you can't outrun ghosts. They just wait for you to come home." pg 63
"Sometimes people surprise you. Sometimes they stay." pg 93
"And I thought: This is why I run. This is why I keep people at a distance. Because loving someone means they can be ripped away." pg 131
This is a quick read, sweet Christmas story. Both Casper and Meg have experienced lose; Casper lost his Grandma and his mother and Meg lost her parents. In a mistaken vacation booking, Casper finds himself on a working ranch in Wyoming instead of at a ski resort in Aspen. Meg's brother offered to help care for her horse if she came home for the holidays to help on the ranch.
Casper and Meg's first couple of meetings are full of frustration; however, once they started to get to know each other sparks start to fly.
This was a fun read. Totally unrealistic with how quickly they fell in love, but sometimes its fun to imagine that you could find you "home" that quickly.
