My Review: Highlands Summer Wedding by Amy Quick Parrish is book #1 in the Highlands Romance series. The novel is categorized as "Romance | Women's Fiction." It was released today (7/23/26).

In My Own Words: Love is in the air for a couple on the verge of wedded bliss and a former couple who may just get a second chance.
About the Characters:
✨ - Abby Montgomery was a woman who was always making everyone else's dreams come true. Her journey was about finding the balance between happiness, career, relationship, and home.
✨ - Max MacLeod was a man who was married to his career. His life was largely marked by the work that he was passionate about doing. It had once cost him his best friend. He needed to decide what his truest joy was and what he really wanted for his life.
About the Character Chemistry/Romance: There was something there. It was tame and controlled. The chemistry connection was very subtle, initially. Around chapter 24, it began to pick up and allowed me to better understand what actually happened between them in the past, and it helped me to better appreciate where they stood with each other in the present moments of their lives. In terms of the romance, it was harder for me to pick up on it.
My Final Say: This story had an interesting flair. There were quite a few moving parts, if I'm being honest. Chaos, memories, movie magic, family, wedding plans, community unity, and a reunion of a once upon a time couple were presented, all while touring various sights in the Scottish Highlands. In the end, I will say that it was nice to sit a spell and get lost in what was going on in this wee lilt.
Other: Readers who enjoy the beauty, the warmth, and the magic of a Scottish summer may like this novel. It is unassuming and easy. It is a niche read and will appeal to a particular audience, without question.

Abby is starting a new career as a wedding planner. However, the wedding she has been working on for a Senator’s daughter has suddenly come to an end when the bride calls off the wedding on the day of the wedding. Abby is so disappointed as she wanted this first wedding to give her a good start on her new career.
Heading home, she hears from her sister, Caitlyn who is in Scotland and tells her that she and her boyfriend, Angus, are engaged and she wants Abby to come to Scotland and plan the wedding. Caitlyn and Angus have their hearts sets on being wed at the MacAlister Inn in Edinburgh. But when they go to get it reserved, they find that a big movie is being filmed in town and there is absolutely nothing available for them. They are disappointed until Abby runs into Max MacLeod whom she was once engaged to back when she and he worked in the film industry. He promises to help them get a place to stay while they decide where to hold the wedding. As the hotel only has one room for Caitlyn and Angus, Abby learns that there is a house available where she can stay. Only later, she finds that the house is where Max is also staying.
As the three hike many scenic areas of the Highlands, they enjoy the sights as they fight off the constant rain. Will there be a place they can find for the wedding?
This book was nice, however, as I have not read previous novels by this author, I felt like I was lost. I do have books ready to read by this author that I hope will fill me in with the past events here. I am sure though that readers will enjoy this story. The descriptions of the area are just delightful!

This is the fourth book I’ve read from this author, all set in the same place, with the same characters. The previous three were a trilogy and I believe this is supposed to be a standalone. But I highly recommend reading the author’s previous three Scottish romances before this one. I think if I had started here, I would feel like I missed all of the build-up. See, the majority of the characters overlap, and the couple that marries in this one has their [very fun] start in those previous books.
This one is along the same vein as the other three, which is a fun romantic comedy set in beautiful Scotland. Much of the story is given to sightseeing the countryside, which is really special for those who are drawn to Scotland. The author does a great job building the family and friend relationships between the characters. But I feel that the Christmas/Near Year backdrop from the previous books is very missed, as that is what made those other books special.
It’s a fine story, but I just personally think marketing it as a continuation of the previous series would be a better move than picking up new readers mid-series. There is too much overlap and not enough backstory in this installment, in my opinion.

Oh wow. So happy to be back in the Highlands, meeting new characters and revisiting ones we’ve met before. This book is meant to be a spin off/standalone book, that can easily be read as such OR you could also read it following the Highland Christmas trilogy books (Make sure to get those too as they really are both fun and a treat to read!) I thoroughly enjoyed all of these stories and already crave more!

I struggled with this story, the timeline felt off and the characters felt flat. We start in Martha’s Vinyard and all of the sudden we are in Scotland. Then we have a few weeks to plan a wedding, but it wasn’t clear how long. Abby and Max barely spend any time together. We don’t know how long they were a couple and how long they’ve been broken up.
The book was supposed to be about Abby and Max but we are not given any background about their past relationship until the very end of the book and not enough to make it believable. Max is barely in the book at all.
It mostly felt like an extended epilogue for the sister’s book.

I received an ARC of Highlands Summer Wedding and leave this review voluntarily.
Highlands Summer Wedding is a second-chance romance where the couple did not initially end because of one of the common trope-y reasons (e.g., miscommunication, external manipulation, etc.). It was a refreshing way to look at romance and the complexities of relationships. I enjoyed the forced proximity aspect and watching the characters' perceptions shift as they spend more time together. The wedding planning aspect (female main character is planning her sister's wedding) felt very much like a plot device for the main story rather than a motivating factor in decision making though. I did enjoy that the wedding planning took the characters to various places in the Highlands but I feel like more could have been done with this aspect of the story. Either way, I really enjoyed reading Highlands Summer Wedding.

Highlands Summer Wedding was a quick, enjoyable rom-com. This was meant to be a standalone but felt like it was a continuation of a series, so I am not sure if I have missed out on a lot of the back story.
There was a lot going on in this book and I think that took away from the story of the romance between Max and Abby. I never really felt the connection between them and felt there could have been more of a build up between them. I think all the things happening with the wedding, film, fake dating and location scouting just took up too much space from the story between Max and Abby.
I loved seeing the Scottish countryside and hearing about the local folklore and superstitions.
In my opinion this book will be really enjoyed by those who have read the other books by this author, but I felt slightly lost and I feel that this meant that a level of chemistry that I was looking for was missing.

Unfortunately, this one just didn’t work for me.
I loved the idea of a destination wedding in Scotland and there were a few interesting threads around career choices, but overall I struggled to stay engaged. The story felt a bit scattered, and I kept waiting for a stronger central conflict or something to really pull everything together.
I also had a hard time connecting with the characters, especially the romance. I never fully bought into them as a couple, which made it difficult to root for their ending.
That said, the setting and premise had potential, and I can see this working better for readers who enjoy a more low-conflict, slice-of-life style story.

From the beautiful scenery that was described so perfectly, to the fun of planning a summer wedding against such a gorgeous backdrop.
This is book 1 of the Highlands Romance series and Abby is with her sister and her fiancé making sure everything is perfect for the couples special day.

Following Abby as she was in Scotland planning her sister’s wedding. Then she met up with her ex and that was when she decided maybe she should rethink what she had done in her past and how maybe she should step back and look at what she needs and wants in her life.
I really wanted things to move along faster and connect together better.
I wanted to feel the connection and to see what life had in store for her.
I would recommend this for anyone wanting a second chance romance.

I loved the original series, but I could not connect to this story. In part because what sister plans a last minute wedding on her sisters cancelled wedding date and asks said sister to plan it? Dastardly. I also didn't feel invested in Max and Abby's romance. (And, as someone who works in entertainment, I struggle when books get the profession so wrong.) I hope there is a wedding book for Melissa and Colin, because when I saw the title that is who I was hoping we'd be celebrating. I do still love Angus, though.

This was such a cute read! I really liked how different the storyline was, seeing from the eyes of Hollywood and not just the good side of it. I also loved that the storyline continued in a way from the first book and you got to see Colin and Melissa’s wedding. This romance wasn’t as great as theirs was, but I still truly enjoyed coming back to Scotland and seeing a second chance romance bloom. I do find that the romance felt a little emptier compared to Colin/Melissa’s, but it was still a cute summer read

This was such a cute and short read. I loved the Scottish background and history. The sisters’ relationship was also really adorable. Their friends also were amazing. I loved how natural Abby and Max’s relationship unfurled and the hardships of having a relationship along with real life struggles.

Fast paced and original. I really enjoyed the relationship between the two sisters. I related to the main character's struggle to be practical and stay true to herself, while remaining open to a second chance at love. The author really captured the magic of the Scottish highlands. It was interesting to learn more about all the challenges and logistics involved in making a movie. A great read for the beach or a rainy afternoon.

Ended up reading this in one sitting cause I just couldn’t put it down! I will bit you a little bit about the Scottish Highlands, just a pinch here and there, under the guise of a sweet romcom.
I did not expect the twist in terms, but it made the story work even better. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

I found this book was such an enjoyable and stress-free read that made me wish I was in Scotland. I've been about 7 times now and it was great to pull myself out of work and relax into the story of Angus, Caitlin, Max and Abby. I liked that this was a shorter read. It felt at times a bit predictable, but if it makes sense, sometimes that's just what you need. There were tender and funny moments, like Caitlin's highland cow bachelorette style party... and I really grew to like Max's character and conviction. It was a lovely second chance romance with a layer of armchair travel, which I recommend to anyone who is craving some men in kilts and a Scottish atmosphere in their reading.

I do not wish to be unkind in this review, however, this book was a mess, from start to finish. Overall, poorly done character work, nonsensical plot, and the line level writing was lacking.

While overall the book felt a bit chaotic and it was difficult to fully connect with the characters, this was still a quick read. The destination wedding was fun, and the site seeing was entertaining. But the story itself just felt a bit scattered and didn't fully immerse me in this read.

I generally enjoy a second chance romance that ended okay. I enjoyed this book but didn’t really fall in love with the characters. We didn’t get a whole lot of background on Abby and Max to feel attached to them.

This is such a great summer read sitting by the pool at your vacation resort pool, at the beach with your toes in the sand or on a boat cruising a lake. I highly recommend getting this book you can even enjoy it at home like I did unfortunately lol.

However, I found myself unable to establish a strong connection with the characters, but this may be attributed to the brevity of the narrative and the fact that we start the book right in the middle of the action.
The family dynamics are particularly endearing, especially the relationship between the two sisters. The Scottish setting and ambiance were very enjoyable, especially because I never went to Scotland.
