An inherited inn promises hope… until the nightly scratching starts. Doors slam on their own. A guest ledger lists two names circled in black. And every clue suggests the same thing... whatever took them is still inside.
The Inn at Briar Rose is exactly the kind of ghost story I enjoy—it is deeply unsettling and builds a heavy atmosphere without ever needing to rely on cheap jump scares. While the pacing felt a little slow in some parts, the slow-burn actually added to the creepy, lingering mood of the house.
Sky Finn did an excellent job fleshing out the characters and slowly peeling back the layers of the tragedy on the land. It was fascinating to see how the spirits weren't just "there," but were actively influencing Danica and Paul’s behavior in the present. The author also pulls off a brilliant mislead with the groundskeeper, Eric; I was completely certain he was the threat, so the real reveal was a fantastic "boom" moment!
Beyond the mystery, the heart of the book for me was the marriage. It was so rewarding to watch Danica and Paul trade their routine disconnect for a steadier, more present bond. Seeing Paul offer reassurance and make those small "bids for connection" made Danica feel truly seen and understood. By the end, Danica finds a kindred soul in her uncle but emerges more grounded in reality than ever. It’s a satisfying, atmospheric read that ties up every loose end perfectly.
This is a fun mystery with ghosts and danger, then relief. Characters are realistic and very likeable, except for the evil one. He's thoroughly detestable. The tension is broken with lighter moments at perfect intervals. Ending was very satisfying.
Although there are sections if wonderfully descriptive scenery, architecture and people, there is also inconsistency, conflicting info and gaps which take away from the reading experience.
I found the storyline quite different, but it still held my interest throughout. At the end though it went very wishy washy as the main part of the story finished and it just seemed to struggle from there. Good read otherwise
A very intriguing story. The author left you wondering how this story would end. I liked the ending. The possibilities were endless. I really enjoyed reading this book. I give it five Stars. 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Not bad as ghost stories go but it contains a lot of mistakes the main one being that Jules keeps saying that her uncle left her the inn but he gave it to her on condition she did it up, you only get left something when someone dies.
Not a bad story but the characters were mediocre without enough substance to truly love them. I usually read at night and can get through some pages before falling asleep but I couldnt get oast two kindle pages before falling asleep on this one.
well written and suspenseful the novel kept me wanting more all the way until the end. It came across as "Stephen King light" which was excellent. A good ghost story for all
Good story, love the protagonist. Some inconsistencies, specially with the time the murders took place. Aside that small hiccup, the book is worth the time.
Not my normal genre. The story moved along. It got scary at certain points. I was involved with the characters. I found myself rooting for a happy and safe ending to the story.
