Ava Sinclair doesn’t do roots. She does movement—new towns, new adventures, and definitely no strings. Love? Hard pass. But when her quick pit stop in Saxville turns into a summer that won’t quit, she finds herself tangled up in small-town charm, nosy neighbors, and one maddeningly steady man who kisses like he’s got all day.

Kai Hastings likes his life lakehouse renovations, Friday night barbecues, and no drama. Then Ava bursts in like a beautiful tornado—wild, funny, impossible to ignore—and suddenly his quiet world looks a whole lot better with her in it.

The problem? She’s made a career out of leaving. He’s made a life out of staying.

Between lakeside sunsets, flirty banter, and a chemistry that refuses to cool down, Ava has to decide if she’s ready to stop running and let herself be caught.

Holding You is a small-town, slow-burn romance about second chances, late-night sparks, and falling for the one person who feels like home—even when home terrifies you.

***ARC Review***

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to the author J.J. Hart for sending me a digital ARC copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

This was such a sweet love story that wasn’t short on the spice! Holding you was a quick read that I didn’t want to stop reading. The romance between Kai and Ava was about overcoming fear and learning to trust in love, rather than focusing heavily on explicit content. This was a slow burn romance perfect if you’re in a reading slump or just want a quick spicy romance.

This was my first book written by J.J. Hart! I can’t wait to read more.

This book releases on December 9th

A huge thanks to J.J. Hart for giving me the privilege to read the book before the book is official.

⭐⭐⭐✨ 3.5-Star Review: Holding You by J.J. Hart

If you’re into small-town romances, Holding You definitely has that cozy vibe. We’ve got Ava, who’s basically allergic to settling down, and Kai, who’s the definition of steady and dependable. Put them together in Saxville—a town full of nosy neighbors and lakeside charm—and you’ve got sparks, banter, and plenty of “will they/won’t they” tension.

What I Liked

• The town feels super alive. Saxville is the kind of place you want to visit (or maybe gossip in).
• Ava and Kai’s personalities clash in the best way—her restless energy vs. his calm, rooted vibe.
• The writing has a nice mix of humor and heart, with some sweet, swoony moments.

What Didn’t Quite Work

• The slow-burn romance sometimes felt too slow. Ava’s whole “I can’t commit” thing gets repeated a lot.
• Kai is lovable, but Ava’s arc dragged a bit—her growth could’ve been sharper.
• The story hits familiar beats, so if you read a lot of small-town romances, you might see where it’s going.

Bottom Line
This is a sweet, comforting read—perfect if you want something cozy and heartfelt. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s warm, charming, and leaves you with that “aww” feeling. For me, it lands at 3.5 stars: enjoyable, but not one I’d rave about nonstop.

I loved the MMC Kai he is an absolute cinnamon roll of a man and knows when to take the spice up a notch!
I also loved the way they had the FMC grow into her new found life, friends, and relationship. I was extremely hooked and felt closely connected to the characters!

Book 3 in the Saxville Sweetheart Series.

We met Kai in book 1 and he was a sweetheart then and boy did he only get better.

The moment he saw Ava, he was drawn in by her energy and light. There was the magnetic pull between them that they both felt.

Ava has spent her life trying to always be moving so no roots could develop and she could keep her heart safe and guarded.

Kai is steady and kind and shows her that love can feel safe and easy. He has been left for being too dependable but it is just what Ava needs to let her guard down.

"It's easy to keep moving when no place asks you to stay".

Her pull on me is nothing I've ever felt with anyone.

"But it's hard when people don't stick around long enough to see it finished."

Holding You is so beautifully written.

Ava’s tendency to never stay in one place for long made her such an interesting character, and Kai’s patience with her was everything. He never pushed her or tried to force her to stay — he simply showed up with gentleness.

I love how the author explored Kai and Ava’s individual insecurities and how those shaped their views on love and relationships. They’re both such green flags, and watching their connection unfold was genuinely heartwarming.

The side characters were beautiful additions too — fun, supportive, and present without overshadowing the main couple.

This is a 4.5-star read, and I highly recommend it.

Thanks to the author for this beautiful ARC.

Kai and Ava’s story was everything you could hope for, slow burn, swoons and spicy. JJ Hart knows how to write a beautiful connection between characters. This is the second book I have read by her and been absolutely captivated.

I have been excited about this book since I finished reading Wanting You. Holding You didn’t disappoint it was filled with all the cute romance that I needed as well as being sprinkled with spice.
Ava and Kai worked so well together, Ava is a girl who just wants to protect her heart while Kai will do anything to win and protect Ava’s heart.

This book was a great weekend pick me up that I struggled to put down, the plot was fabulous, the characters were fantastic as always making it a superb read.

If you like your books with dirty mouthed, big hearted, green flag men then this is the book for you.

Holding You can be read as a stand alone book but the series is perfect so I suggest you read them all.

Roll on book number 4!

The Saxville Sweetheart Series
Kai
The ooiest, gooiest cinnamon roll MMC, he’s spicy in the bedroom, loves a good hottub nightly routine and can renovate !!! Loves a good polo and custom balls- bowling balls !
Ava
She’s roamed the world- owning a traveling book/coffee van but is looking for more than the van life! She’s a little flighty, a lot cute and the perfect FMC for Kai

Ava Sinclair is in town visiting her sister, niece and brother in law, Logan- who just so happens to be Kai Hastings business boss/partner at the lawn firm.
Kai takes one look at Ava and he’s a goner, hook line and sinker 🪝 He waves all the green flags! Ava gets a little nervous at how quickly she falls for Kai- so she runs! But don’t worry Kai knows how to book a direct flight! She stops evading, and sets down real roots in Saxville and I know one resident, Kai, who is extra happy she’s going to be next door and available for those nightly hot tub visits!
These two caught on after a slow burn and a heated make up session that left more than spirits elevated!
All the fun dates! Laser tag, lobster dinners and custom polos and bowling balls!
So, so much fun !!!
This one gets all the green flag ratings!!!! Kai was book boyfriend gold! I loved Dane (he pops up this book with some fun banter but Kai 🥵🔥😍 that lazer tag scene turned sexy and I didn’t know that was possible !!!! )
I loved the sentimental touches, the way Kai took note of all the things, moved all the benches and more for Ava! He showed up and made her believe she was deserving of love ! ❤️
She already had the family, but she found a home 🏡

I throughly loved my partner read with my JJs crew!!!
I ❤️ed my visit to Saxville and you will too, download on December 9th- lobster dinners and lake views await!!!

📚✨ ARC REVIEW ✨📚
Holding You by J.J. Hart
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 (3.5/5)

Thank you, @jjhartauthor and @meetcutemarketing, for providing an ARC!

Ava never stays in one place—or with one person—so her quick stop in Saxville should’ve been easy to leave behind… until she meets Kai. Kai loves his quiet life of home renovations, barbecues, and zero chaos, but the moment Ava blows in like a gorgeous whirlwind, everything feels brighter. As nights spent talking and slow-building chemistry pull them closer, Ava has to decide whether she’s finally ready to stop running and fall for the one man who feels like home.

When I say this book is a slow burn, I mean it is a SLOW burn. Prepare to spend a lot of time with Kai and Ava building their connection long before they make it to the bedroom.

One of my favorite things is how Ava’s nomadic wanderlust isn’t portrayed as her being flighty or irresponsible, as is often the case in other books. She owns a bookstore/coffee shop van (objectively the coolest business model ever), and has been running it successfully for years. I really liked that her decision to stay in Saxville or keep traveling isn’t solely tied to Kai. She has roots growing: her sister, her niece, and the opportunity to take over a brick-and-mortar space.

And Kai? The most green-flag man to ever live. Truly. I have no idea why his ex left or how another woman hasn’t scooped him up, but I’m glad she didn’t because it clears the path for his sweet, steady, slow-burning romance with Ava. Also, his polo obsession? Absolutely giving 2005 in the best way—and I loved every second.

For fans of: 🌾 Small-town romance | 🔥 Slow burn | 🥐 Cinnamon roll MMC | 🌬️ Free-spirit FMC | 💛 Mutual healing

J.J. Hart’s Holding You serves as a solid weekend pick-me-up, delivering a cozy small-town romance that balances cute moments with a surprising sprinkle of spice. The story centers on the clash between Ava Sinclair, a woman who has made a career out of leaving, and Kai Hastings, a man who has made a life out of staying. When Ava’s quick pit stop in Saxville turns into an extended summer stay, she finds herself unexpectedly tangled in local gossip, lakeside charm, and the affections of a man who kisses like he has all day.

The dynamic between the two leads is the highlight of the book. Kai is the definition of a "green flag" hero—dirty-mouthed yet big-hearted, steady, and willing to do anything to win over Ava. Their chemistry is palpable, fueled by flirty banter and a connection that refuses to cool down. Ava, on the other hand, is energetic and wild, bringing a beautiful tornado of chaos into Kai’s quiet world of renovations and Friday night barbecues.

However, the pacing does hit a few snags. While the town of Saxville feels wonderfully alive and the romance is swoony, the slow burn occasionally feels a bit too slow. Ava’s repetitive resistance to commitment causes her character arc to drag in the middle, and seasoned readers of the genre will likely spot the familiar plot beats coming from a mile away.

Despite those pacing issues, the book remains a sweet, comforting read that leaves you with a warm feeling. It works well as a standalone, though the series as a whole comes highly recommended. Ultimately, this is a solid 4-star read: not necessarily groundbreaking, but an enjoyable and heartfelt escape for anyone looking for a cozy romance.

Thank you to JJ for the ARC. This is my honest review.

This was my first book by JJ Hart, though it is the third in the Saxville Sweethearts series. I was worried that I would be lost without having read the first two, but thankfully I wasn’t at all!

The evolution of this relationship throughout the book was so well done. Ava goes from being terrified to commitment to deciding to settle down and plant roots. Kai is the absolute sweetest cinnamon roll/Golden retriever I think I’ve ever read. And while it took a little bit to get to the spice, when we did....holy lord the mouth on that man! Kai is the king of dirty talk!

“Sometimes you can’t control who you love…and who loves you. You’re enough, always.”

Kai and Ava’s story
First off, if you haven’t read the Saxville Sweetheart series, you are missing out! Each book can be read as a standalone, but why not enjoy them all for the full experience?

I think I fell in love with Kai from the very beginning. How to describe him? Kai is a hardworking lawyer with clear career goals, but he’s also a handyman. He’s the perfect romantic—the kind of man who would take me to watch the stars, sunsets, or sunrises any day of the week.

Ava owns a food (coffee) truck and mini bookstore. She doesn’t want to settle down and is always on the road, chasing her next adventure.

When these two met, it was instant magic. They were introduced by relatives, and Kai was warned that Ava never stayed in one place for long, so he shouldn’t get his hopes up. Despite that, he grew close to her and even visited her after she left town. He knows how to give her space while always putting her goals first.

I loved Ava’s character growth and how it wasn’t forced by her relationship with Kai. Instead, it came from a mix of her feeling more confident in herself, wanting to be closer to her family and friends, and having a vision of opening her own business without giving up her dreams.

“There are signs everywhere.”

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next one!

Holding You is such a sweet, comforting small town romance. Kai and Ava’s story pulled me in right away. Their long-distance relationship feels real and tender, and you can sense how deeply Kai falls for her long before he ever says it out loud. He is the steady, thoughtful lawyer who shows his love in the quietest, most meaningful ways, and it is impossible not to root for him.

Ava is easy to love too. She has this free spirit energy and a big dream of running her coffee truck and bookstore, and the way Kai supports that dream makes their connection even more special. When she decides to move home to be with her family, it finally gives them the chance to build something real together. Every moment between them feels earned, sweet, and full of heart.

Their meet cute is adorable, the slow burn is worth every page, and the found family vibes in Saxville make the story feel like a warm hug. There is no third act breakup, just two people choosing each other and healing together in the most genuine way.

If you love cinnamon roll heroes, hopeful love stories, and small town charm, this one deserves a spot on your TBR.

ARC Review

I have been waiting for Kai’s story since book 1. I truly had conflicted feelings for Fatih not choosing him because he was already so amazing in that book but now, I see he found his person.

I feel like this was fated mates but the contemporary version being Insta-love, at least from Kai’s POV. BUT I think Ava was feeling the same feelings but was too scared to admit it. Ava has spent her whole life, running away from deep feelings and emotions when it comes to her love life. She has made her life be on wheels but running a coffee/bookshop van and never stays in one place too long.

Kai is looking for a steady and settled life, then in walks Ava. Immediately he is drawn to her, but he also knows she is skittish. His dedication to her is such an amazing thing. Who doesn’t love a man that knows what he wants and goes for it??

This book captures your attention from the first page. Kai and Ava are characters you instantly fall in love with. They both have things from their past that affect them, and they are able to work through them to face their fears and be together.

Can I just say I want my own Kai! He is the perfect cinnamon roll book boyfriend!! The way he just knows she is the one and does everything he can to show her that he is not going anywhere and that he is a safe place for her! Ugh, he is just perfect! Can I petition for my own?

Ava is a girl who just keeps running. She is running so that she doesn't get hurt, and I can appreciate that. I think a lot of us run or try to get away from life at times. It is through her new friends and her sister, as well as Kai’s actions, that she decides to stop running and set down roots. To be with Kai.

I can not say enough how much I loved this book! I did not want it to end! I would really like more Kai and Ava!! I am excited for the next book in the series, though! Hopefully with lots of Kai and Ava included!

**ARC REVIEW**

Holding You by J.J. Hart is the first book I’ve read by this author, and it definitely won’t be the last. Although it’s the third installment in the Saxville Sweethearts series, it works perfectly as a standalone—I never felt lost. The writing is sharp and engaging, the pacing smooth, and the small-town charm shines through. The characters feel warm, real and fully developed.

I genuinely enjoyed everything about this book and couldn’t put it down. Ava and Kai are absolutely adorable together. Their chemistry is instant and irresistible, the banter is genuinely fun, and the spice hits just right without overshadowing the story. I loved watching their relationship deepen as they navigated their differences and fears.

If you enjoy small-town romance with charm, warmth, and characters you can’t help but root for, this is a great pick.

Thank you to J.J. Hart for the ARC! 📚💛

Holding You is the kind of small-town romance that feels warm from the inside out. Ava is determined to avoid settling down, while Kai has this steady, reassuring presence that makes you trust him instantly. Saxville adds its own charm with lakeside views, curious neighbors, and that easy, lived-in feeling that makes you want to stay a while. Kai also reminds me so much of my fiancé with that same gentle, golden-retriever heart that shows up for the people he loves without question.

The writing balances humor and tenderness and creates a very low-stakes, comforting story that feels perfect for a quiet evening. It is cozy, sweet, and filled with soft, swoony moments that make the whole experience feel easy to sink into. For me, it’s a 4-star read, warm and enjoyable even if it didn’t completely sweep me away.

Ava is always on the move, never staying anywhere long enough to put down roots. Kai is steady, loyal, and happy in his quiet Saxville life.

When their worlds collide, their chemistry is instant. Kai is the ultimate golden retriever hero!

Ava eventually learns to trust herself. She opens up, and imagines a future where she doesn’t have to run.

The romance that builds between them is beautiful!!

You can read this as a standalone, but the Saxville Sweethearts series is worth diving into. JJ’s stories pull you in and make you love her characters. 🥰🥰🥰

I loved going back to Saxville for Ava and Kai’s story. Book 3 in the Saxville Sweethearts series did not disappoint. Ava and Kai’s love story was beautifully written. This small town sweet romance has the perfect amount of spice. Kai is the golden retriever MMC who would do anything for Ava. Ava is the adventurous girl who loves to move around and never commit. In walks Kai and Ava’s world is never the same! He feels like home to her.

Ava and Kai are both afraid to love because they have each been hurt. I love how patient Kai is with Ava and lets her move at her own pace without rushing her.

Each book in the series can be read as a standalone, however, I highly recommend reading them all as all of the characters are amazing! I can’t wait to read the next book!!!

Thank you JJ Hart for the ARC. All thoughts are my own.

“I also think I don’t want to walk away from her. It’s like being in her orbit is exactly where I am supposed to be.”

J.J does it again! We’re back in Saxville for the unfolding love story between Kai and Ava. They have opposite personalities but are instantly drawn to each other at a party. Compared to Wanting You, Holding You is definitely a slower burn but once their attraction becomes irresistible, things get heated 🔥I also loved that we get to see cameos from previous characters such as Kendall. Seeing all the women gather together sharing stories over margaritas was a fun moment. Each book reads as a standalone so don’t worry if you haven’t read the previous two! Totally recommend reading Holding You if you’re looking for a cinnamon roll MMC to love. Kai is one of my favorite book boyfriends for sure!

You know how some stories are so beautiful you just cry? Not the sad tears, the 'it's so beautiful I can't help myself' tears. Yeah, Holding You had that effect on me. The development of the connection between Kai and Ava was everything. It was beautiful to the point I was able to overlook just how spicy this book is. (Yeah, my no-spice girlies, you might not enjoy this one as much, sorry!)

Kai is such a sweetheart though. He's so hard not to fall in love with and wish for one of your very own. Or is that just me? Maybe it's just me. Moving on! Yeah, I really enjoyed this deviation from my preferred no-spice bookish things, and I'm not sorry for sharing my love of this sweet little love story.

Ravenheart Rating: 10/10

This was my first book by JJ Heart and I'm hooked! I'll be going back to read the other two books in the series. I read this book in one day, I just couldn't put it down.
Kai is the definition of a green flag MMC and it was so great to read a book about a nice guy, without drama or a third act break up! The love story between Kai and Ava was so beautiful - she was the wild to his calm and his stability was exactly what she needed. He was kind, supportive and patient with her and showed her that real love actually exists. Of course, Kai also has a spicy side to compliment his sweet one and that makes him a truly perfect book boyfriend. If you're looking for a book with a small town vibe, found family, slow burn and some sweet and spicy love, this is the book for you!

I binged Books 1 and 2 of this series before diving into Holding You, and now that I’ve finished, I’m genuinely sad to be leaving Saxville behind (at least for now!). This series has become my comfort-read corner of the world.

This third instalment is sweet, swoony, and quietly emotional in all the best ways. Kai is absolute green-flag perfection, a cinnamon-roll hero with a love of polo shirts and hot tubs. Honestly, if all men were built like him, commitment would be a much easier decision.

Ava was fun to follow: smart, independent, caffeinated, and determined to grow her little mobile bookstore/coffee-truck empire, even if it means keeping her heart at arm’s length. And given that Kai has been burned by love before, their hesitation feels earned. It’s not the attraction that’s complicated—it's whether either of them is brave enough to risk it.

The spice is delicious, the heart is real, and the cameos from earlier Saxville couples made it feel like coming home. Their world is warm and lived-in, and by the final page I wasn’t ready to leave it.

Hoping we’re not done with Saxville yet.

I had such a good time with this one. Kai and Ava kept stealing the spotlight every time they were on the page. He with that calm, steady patience, and she with her restless energy that made her feel like she was always halfway to the next adventure. I loved how Kai never tried to cage her in, he just showed up, soft and certain, and made space for her to breathe. Ava’s hesitation made sense, and watching her gradually trust herself, and him, was genuinely rewarding. Kai, meanwhile, kept serving one green-flag moment after another. By the time I reached the end, I genuinely wished I could stay in their world a little longer. Thank you so much to the author for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving an honest review.

Thank you for sending me an ARC of this book! The story jumps into the action quickly, likely because it builds off a previous book in the series that I haven’t read yet. Even so, Ava and Kai’s connection is immediate. Kai is truly the sweetest golden-retriever MMC and would do absolutely anything for her. Ava struggles with the pull between her nomadic past and settling down, which did feel a bit drawn out at times—but it works for the slower-burn pacing. I also loved seeing her find a true sense of belonging through her new friend group and the support surrounding her. And of course, I can’t not mention the hot tub scene — that’s 👏🏻 what 👏🏻 I’m 👏🏻 talking 👏🏻 about! 👏🏻 Overall, this story left me curious to explore more of this world.

I received an ARC for Holding you. So here we go.

This is Ava and Kai's story...
Ava owns a traveling coffee shop/bookstore van she is always going somewhere new.
Kai is a defense lawyer.
Ava and kai meet at her sisters baby shower. They have an instant attraction to each other. Kai is scared she will leave and Ava is scared of letting anyone close. After things get alittle serious she runs. Thankfully he hopes on a plane to visit her. These two were perfect together. Kai helps ground her and was always there when she needed him. I loved the bowling and laser tag parts. Can't wait for Lane and Blake's

Holding You is a heartfelt, slow-burning romance that captures the tug-of-war between wanting freedom and craving a place to belong. Kai, the cinnamon roll, steady lawyer who moonlights as a handyman, and Ava, a restless dreamer running a quirky coffee truck that doubles as a mini bookstore, have steamy encounters with deeper reflections on identity, family, and the courage to choose belonging. With its small-town charm, opposites-attract dynamic, and a heroine whose growth is her own, J. J Hart delivers slow-burn intimacy, heartfelt humor, and an emotional payoff that lingers long after the last page.

Kai is such a green flag 🥲

ARC 4🌟

Small-town vibes where a wanderlust-filled FMC who never stays in one place catches the attention of a strong, steady MMC. Ava and Kai navigate big changes and ultimately grow together throughout the story. Kai is the greenest flag, with the determination and patience of a saint. Ava gets it together by the end, but there were definitely moments earlier on when I wanted to shake her a bit 🤣
This story is sweet and swoony with a touch of spice. If you’re a fan of small towns, found-family dynamics, and HEAs, I definitely recommend Holding You 💗

Thank you for the oppertunity to read this arc. I’ve had a couple of days to put my thoughts together on this one. Let me just say I really enjoy the book so much. Kai and Ava were kind of a perfect example of right person wrong time type situation in the beginning. Kai is everything she thought she didn’t want and Ava was the one person he wanted from the moment he looked at her. Everything about this book was perfection from beginning to end. I can’t wait for this one to release so everyone can read Kai and Ava’s story and fall in love with them as much as I did.
