The story unfolds in a time of transformation, right after Cleopatra's death, which leads the cat-headed ancient Egyptian civilization known as the Bastet’s into a period of secrecy. Elder Heka, a wise scholar, observes the rise of Christianity and realizes that this new spiritual age calls for a change—moving away from visible power and duality towards "unseen grace" and humble service, symbolized by the House Cat Form. This shift creates a the loyal Bastet’s, led by brave figures like Aken, retreat into the shadows, becoming quiet protectors and healers. They work hard to preserve essential aspects of civilization—like libraries, sanitation, and medical knowledge—during the decline of the Roman Empire and the onset of the Dark Ages. On the other hand, the Sekhmetians, led by the warrior lineage of Khafre, reject this retreat and find refuge in a Himalayan Citadel, where they develop the doctrine of visible vengeance, represented by the Lioness Form, preparing for a glorious war that seems destined to be forgotten by history.

Fast forward a few centuries, and the Sekhmetians, now under the leadership of Khafre III, face their own challenges when the scholar Zola brings them face to face with the complex and resilient world of Christianity. Khafre and his strategist, Captain Taurus, come up with a bold new they decide to use the Bastet’s' clever methods of invisibility and resourcefulness for their own purposes of vengeance. This forces Lysander, the current leader of the Bastet’s, into a challenging position where he has to respond quickly and thoughtfully. He works tirelessly to fix the chaos being created and to prevent Taurus from causing a complete societal breakdown.

The escalating conflict reaches a turning point when Lysander decides to confront Khafre III in a final philosophical showdown. But I won't tell you anymore. I don't want to ruin the book for you.
