A young woman fighting to break her chains. A young man fighting to keep his own shackles locked tight. A dying world only they can save.
The Confederacy of Man is on the brink of collapse twenty years after its armies brutally wiped magic from its thirsting lands, but all that rebellious Kathiria can focus on from within the confining walls of her manor is evading her dreaded duty as a bride prize. When Deklan, a handsome but mysterious noble with a shadowy past, shows up with a proposition that promises escape, she jumps at the chance to break out of her box.
But freedom is not what Kathiria anticipates when she emerges from the bubble of her estate… and neither is the boy riding beside her in the carriage. Deklan has a secret -- a secret that stands to shift the fate of their floundering world. As hidden truths about the War on Magic are revealed and survivors begin emerging from the deepest part of the darkest wood, the two discover they are uniquely qualified to reverse the damage done by their parents’ generation.
But to do that, they’re going to have to defy the Confederate Council and embrace the magic inside them… before it’s too late.
Thanks to E. Barbee and BookSirens for an ARC! I really enjoyed this book, and can't wait for the next. Here is a breakdown of my rating:
---------------------------------------
Characters: .9/1
Kathiria: She is such a great, strong female main character! I absolutely loved her and her whole demeanor. The POV switches between her and Deklan Deklan: He was great too, and was a perfect match for Kathiria. His past trauma and his dealings with current grief felt raw and well-written Omer: Evil. Just evil. He deserves no more than a few words. Actually, he deserves absolutely nothing. Rowan: Funny and powerful. Good side character Adam: He has a special place in my heart. His dadliness (definitely a real word) is perfect! Vayla: She is such a strong female character and very interesting to read about. I want more page time with her. Preferably her AND Rowan. Tamura: Can't really say much without spoiling anything... but I loved her!
Ships: Deklan + Kathiria: Yes. Perfect. I can't see them with anyone else. And the slow burn- 🤌 (Kathlan? Dekliria? I can't really get a ship name that sounds just right) Adam + Tamura: They are so sweet together! (Tamdam?) Rowan + Vayla: YES YES YES. I ship them so hard. I have dubbed myself the head of the Vaywan fan club, hopefully I'm early enough (maybe it's weird for me to be shipping them so hard... but uhhhh the few words they have are great)
The only reason that this is not a full 1/1 is that most of the characters were a little bit 2D...
---------------------------------------
Worldbuilding: .8/1
The worldbuilding was pretty good! It mostly made sense, and I think it was built up well. I just wonder why it was called the Confederacy of Man? That sounded too modern for a fantasy book. One thing I did like was all the modern issues that were addressed in this book (maybe that makes me a hypocrite lol). I mean, everything you can think of, gender roles, racism, environmental care, the list goes on and on. ---------------------------------------
Plot: .7/1
The plot was great, and I think it moved along at a pretty good pace. The only setback was that there were a few holes in logic... but not major ones.
---------------------------------------
Writing: .8/1
I really enjoyed the writing! Not including the major action scenes (I always struggle to stay focused during those), it held my interest. Also, I don't know if this continued on for the whole book, but when I first began reading, I was SHOCKED by the vocabulary. It was definitely at a much higher level than most of the books of the same type out there, and I absolutely loved it! I even found a new word (which is saying a lot for me): juxtaposition. Apparently, everyone but me knows it, but I was still pleasantly surprised. I now want to use it everywhere. There definitely were a few info-dumping sessions, but I think they were understandable and did not bother me. I also noticed a few minor grammar/spelling errors.
---------------------------------------
The Book Itself (physically/structurally): .9/1
Okay, maybe I shouldn't "judge a book by its cover", but for me, the physical elements of the book can really add or take away my enjoyment. (Note: I did read this on Kindle, so that might have changed things slightly. I don't think it would too much) Cover Art: SO SO SO GOOD! It is genuinely one of the best parts, and would totally lead me to pick up the book if I saw it on a shelf. Speaking of which, I need a paper copy! Title: Not a horrible title, and it makes sense when you read the book. But something about it bothers me anyway. Maybe it's the use of the term monsters, or maybe it's that I can't 100% tell if it is proper grammar or not. World Map: Always great when there is one, but sadly, it is kind of hard to read/see on my Kindle. You can see it much better on the website at https://www.ebarbeewrites.com/the-map... Inside Art: I didn't really like the drawings. There were maybe three in the whole book, and I personally prefer imagining the characters instead of seeing them. To each their own, I guess Guts (the way the inside looked): Above each of the chapter numbers was a little doodle, some trees with a moon and stars. I absolutely loved this detail, but I wish there could be a different one so Kathiria and Deklan could each have their own. The chapters were numbered, and the numbers were written out with letters. Below the number is the name of either Kathiria or Deklan, whoever the POV is. I can't rate the font, because I think the Kindle auto-adjusts it.
Notes: ✦ TO THE AUTHOR: I have a Google Doc full of notes I took as I read, divided up by chapter. If you would like it, I could send it to you, and you can read my thoughts on the book step-by-step as I read. There were also a few grammar/spelling errors I noticed. I don't know if you can still change them, but they are in there (with page numbers) too <3 ✦This is my first ARC, so sorry if I messed up/did anything wrong! ✦I read a review once where someone rated different categories and added them all up. I don't remember where I found it, but I loved the idea. I saw that review as inspiration for this one, so the layout might be a little similar. If you think it might have been you, please let me know! If you do not feel okay with me having kind of stolen it, I will delete this review and any that I might make like it. <3

Memorable Quotes:
"Perhaps lonely is better than living a lie," I muttered, studying the swirling designs on the wooden tabletop. "Being something I am not. Something I cannot be."
"I understood then- it wasn't so much about the information on the pages, but the comfort that the act of reading provided her."
"I wasn't exactly an expert on trusting people myself. I had so few trusted people in my life, I'd had to recruit a girl from a far-off region to help me talk to my own mother. It probably seemed pathetic."
"Trying is never a failure, Kathiria," he said. "Every try, every attempt to change things, is one more chip in the armor, one more crack in the glass, until eventually, the whole bleeding foundation of tyranny shatters."
"If anything is to be reformed, we must walk willingly into the folds of that which we wish to change." (I had to Google this to make sure it was not a reference to a quote from some famous person. I'm still not totally sure, but it was in there)
"Be honest with the people you love, while you still can."

DISCLAIMER: I received this advanced review copy for free, but this is still my unbiased opinion that I am leaving voluntarily
I'm a vibe reader and let me tell you the vibes are there! I was immediately hooked and thoroughly enjoyed the building of the world and the characters and their relationship. Now I will just have to figure out how to be patient enough for the next book to come out!
I thought this was a really well done fantasy novel. The world building brought me right into an alternate reality and the plot kept moving forward which I appreciate. I loved the swoony angst between the two main characters as the story developed, and with no spice it's a great pick for YA. The writing is smart but accessible and the ending was perfectly done - it left you wanting more. Will look forward to the sequel.
Thank you Booksirens for the free advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you E. Barbee & BookSirens for an advanced reader copy of her debut novel, All Of Us Monsters.
4.25/5 🌟 rounded down. 🫑 NO SPICE, YA friendly
“We are all of us monsters here.”
Trapped by duty and expectations, Kathiria risks everything for a chance at freedom alongside Deklan, a young man whose secrets are tied to the magical fate of their broken world. As the truth behind the War on Magic comes to light, they must choose whether to defy those who came before them and reclaim the magic that could save them all.
This story will resonate with an entire generation. At its heart, All Of Us Monsters is a story of how young people come to realize the mistakes of their elders and choose to lead a movement to right those wrongs. Whether intentional or not, Barbee does a beautiful job at drawing parallels between her fantastical world and our real world. The first book in the Essence of Magic series has great political world building that is easy for the reader to digest and follow. I was also thoroughly impressed by the creative environmental storytelling weaved throughout this book. Barbee touches on how the removal of critical wildlife from an ecosystem can throw everything off balance, typically impacting the most vulnerable communities first. However, instead of bees or sea otters, these “monsters” are from our favorite fairytales.
The story was somewhat predictable, and I would have liked deeper religious world building, as the concept of the “Great Spirits” felt underdeveloped. For example, Barbee used the words “witches, oracles, and sorceresses” interchangeably and the distinctions and religious training of each was not elaborated on.
There were also a few small typos and some repetitive language in the main characters’ inner monologues. The characters are diverse, have strong chemistry, and for the most part communicate well. The pacing was strong, and if anything, I wished the book were about 100 pages longer to give us more time to explore the relationship between our MCs and the world/magical creatures.
This is an excellent debut novel and I am very excited to see what journey the next book takes us on.
Overall, I enjoyed this novel and am looking forward to book two. The magic, the characters, the challenges, and the plot all drew me into wanting more. The shorter chapters with character POV kept my short attention span in tact. I would read a chapter in the morning, one during my work break, and another before bed (okay, sometimes more than one). The main characters are strong-willed, yet likable. The magical creatures are all familiar enough that I can picture them, but unique to this novel.
I would highly recommend E. Barbee's debut novel. I gave it 4 stars since I enjoyed it and she was able to make her words come to life. I would have liked more depth moving into the North Forest, but maybe that's in book 2. Either way, I'm here for the journey.
Thank you BookSirens and E. Barbee for the opportunity to be an ARC reader.
This book was so so good!! I love the world building it's so descriptive you can literally see it in your mind. The characters build and grow in such an amazing way. No spice but I can't wait to share this book with my 13 year old. I think she is going to love it too. I would definitely recommend. 5 of 5 stars!! Can't wait to buy the physical copy!!!
Thank you E. Barbee and Booksirens for the advanced copy!
Loved it! What a debut novel!! I think Barbee does an incredible job immersing us in this unique, mysterious, and once-magical world. The book primarily follows two young Nobles in their journey to do what they believe is right and just, which happens to be against the popular beliefs of a majority of citizens, primarily adults. Their journey is full of twists, excitement, and unexpected events that leave you never wanting to put the book down. I loved the detailed descriptions that allowed me to form full pictures in my mind and even captured the emotional turmoil of these young adult main characters so well and laughably act so annoyingly immature, it's just spot on. Unexpected ending, which I loved. Can not wait to find out what happens next! I was incredibly fortunate to read an ARC and am leaving this review voluntarily.
So this was a stunner. Firstly, the cover is impeccable. That shamelessly drew me in from the beginning. Absolutely beautiful artwork.
Secondly, the characters. Now, don't get me wrong, I love a bit of enemies to lovers, I like a strong FMC or a broody MMC, but sometimes I just need something different. I cannot tell you how nice it was to read two main characters that had these characteristics but were still likeable! The FMC is strong minded, but still extremely likeable. The MMC has a hidden past/secret but he didn't spend the whole book growling and grumbling about it. Dual POV was perfect because I enjoyed reading from both of their perspectives. I didn't groan when it was hers or his turn. I truly enjoyed them both. You could see their relationship grow throughout the book, a really nice slow burn without excessive drama. There were twists and turns, and some mild miscommunications but nothing beyond the realms of possibility. The reason for the hidden information was plausible not infuriating. They just organically built a bond and it was lovely! The villain? Absolute douche. She wrote him well too. He doesn't come across as a Disney villain, you know that obvious set up of the bad guy, but he is written so you gradually really do detest him! He's not particularly likeable from the off but by the end, I wanted him to die a painful death, honestly. Another good twist was his motives. I kind of had a vibe but it was a "oooooooh right!" moment when it was revealed.
The third is the plot. I'm really not going to touch on this too much because I don't want to spoil anything but man, did that get me. I thought I saw where it was going, and I was almost right but I wasn't expecting the ending. Which is great and will lead perfectly into a second book. I loved the world building, the magic, the lore. E's descriptions of the places, the creatures etc was awesome. I could really picture what she described and seeing the fan art on her Insta made me realise I was close to what she had perhaps envisioned for the main characters.
And fourthly - my only criticism of the entire book. It wasn't long enough! Sometimes you need a smaller read in between bigger books (I'm still in the depths of the Throne of Glass series so IYKYK) but this had me wishing it was bigger. I would have loved to have had more and could have read it for hours and hours! But, it was an incredibly easy read. The writing style and pacing is perfect. I lost hours of sleep reading more before bed than I should have. She also gets a free pass on the length because there is a second book being written (if I'm not mistaken!) so as its not a standalone, I'll let her off :)
An additional note - E Barbee as an author, is one of loveliest ones I have come across. I try to follow all the authors that I ARC read for on social media to engage with (and to stalk for a whiff of any character art). She engages with her commenters and is the nicest lady. She also self publishes so please, I beg of you, pre-order this book. If you like a light fantasy with a nice romance that doesn't dilute the plot, magic and monsters and a bit of make believe politics, this is going to be right up your alley. One of the standouts for me this year.
This ARC was provided to me by Booksirens for an honest review. Thank you to E Barbee for letting me experience her work early and making me crash out until her second one drops ;)
What if I tell you decades ago magic vanished from the world and lives were bargained. Corruption and economic imbalance grew just like the hatred towards magic prevailed among humans. Deklan was unlike the others and he was born with a purpose. This purpose can only be fulfilled according to the great prophecy declared by the Spirits, if he joins hands with Kathiria, the steward born daughter of the region of Roth. The prophecy entails their journey to the North forest where magic still survived, but entrapped within the cursed walls. They were meant to break down the wall and restore balance into the world. In this journey, forbidden love blooms between Deklan and Kathiria and heart wrenching secrets are revealed. When the walls fall, will the end of this journey be the end of them?
All of Us Monsters delivers wonderfully moody world building and an atmospheric small-town setting that feels alive on every page. Barbee’s strength is in creating tension through emotion and environment, and the protagonist’s internal struggles are layered in a way that feels authentic.
The downsides show up mostly in the pacing. The middle drags enough that I had to push through and the dynamic between the two main characters develops so quickly it feels rushed rather than earned. A bit more time spent building their connection would have made the emotional beats land harder and I wouldn’t have minded the extra pages in the book if it had some deeper connections before they both started getting starry eyed.
Still, the story’s themes of identity, generational wounds, and the monsters we carry are compelling, and the ending leaves just enough unanswered to keep me interested. Overall, it’s a solid 3.5 stars and a promising start to the series. I’m looking forward to Book 2 and will definitely be reading it.
Editing to add: I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book! Very glad to be one of the first readers of what I feel like will be a popular series!
All of Us Monsters is a moody, magical fantasy adventure filled with turmoil. It takes you through the mapped world with a quest, a sliver of a prophecy, and a land filled with magical hate.
I loved my time with this fantasy, and absolutely can't wait for the next installment (I mean the teaser. really. - enter bookish impatience-).
I really loved the magical creatures, even of those with shorter appearances. & the characters were all very well written.
My only small complaint was the pacing between the protagonists. It felt very rushed, and then slowed down alot and so forth. I would have liked there to have been more time for there discovery of eachother while getting to know one another etc.
Thank you to Book Sirens and the Author for the opportunity to read this book before its release!
This is a fun light fantasy book. You are not initiated with so much detail you cant keep up. The author has a perfect balance of world building and story telling. You cheer for the characters and sneer at the villains, all while anticipating what's next.
There is no spice here but you don't miss it. I can't wait for the next book.

Take classic fantasy creatures, a unique magic system, excellent world building, on point pacing, and add a dash of well written romance. E. Barbee will be an author I keep my eye on.
I received an advance copy for free and will be purchasing come Jan 27th, as will my entire book club! Good friends share good books.
At the start I was worried that this would follow all of the usual tropes of a fantasy, however the story grew and built into a direction that felt new. I enjoyed how each character developed outside of a romance because it felt much more realistic for the timeline where this story took place. Well done and well enjoyed, grateful for this ARC from BookSirens.
4.5 - ARC I really enjoyed this book, it was beautifully written and maintains a great pace. Couldn’t put it down, very much looking forward to the 2nd!
I read a lot of fantasy and romantasy, and I haven’t enjoyed a book in that genre quite as much as this one in quite some time. The main characters had relatable struggles to overcome, Kathiria’s journey especially. The plot held my interest the whole time, it was predictable enough to not stress me out but had enough twists and turns to make it fresh and entertaining. The world building was well thought out, I could easily envision the setting while I was reading. I am looking forward to the sequel!
Magic has been banished and locked away in the Mapped World for the last 20 years. Without the influence of magic, crops fail, food is scarce, and citizens struggle to make ends meet. Soon magic begins to make a reappearance, and the new generation of youth begin questioning the actions of the past. Kathiria and Deklan, joined in a pact by a mutual desire to see magic thrive again, must learn the truth of the past to save the future.
This book was an amazing debut novel by E. Barbee. The world building was incredibly detailed and immersive. The magic system was traditional, however, the sheer amount of mythical creatures was astounding. From Centaurs to Unicorns, and everything in between, there was a monster represented for everyone!
The core themes within the story are self-acceptance, sacrifice, and standing up against bigotry. E. Barbee used magical creatures (termed monsters) to represent marginalized people and the Confederacy to represent a discriminatory governmental body. She tactfully introduces topics such as segregation, social classes, monarchy, and equal rights movements into a fantasy realm.
The book was a mirror into the shameful parts of our past and a plea for them to not be repeated. I absolutely loved how the younger generation of citizens recognize the path the world is on and became outspoken against the government leading it. Bravery in speaking up against what is wrong is very prevalent within the story.
The character development was spectacular. As the characters became more established I felt a bond with them. I was fearful when they were fearful, I was happy when they were happy, I cried when they cried. It is very rare that I have an emotional attachment such as this with fictional characters.
This book has solidified E. Barbee as an auto-buy author for me. All Of Us Monsters is in the Top Three Reads of 2025! I am begging you to please keep me in mind for the next ARC in the series (because that cliffhanger was a killer)!

I was blessed to read this as an ARC and leave this review voluntarily.
In reality this was a 4.5 . It was not a 5 because there is a trope I just cannot stand which is in this book. Saying that I didn't put it down. I didn't want to. It's that good.
Now the good stuff, firstly. There better be a second book. This tale is one of overcoming prejudice/hate. Finding ones self and loving who you are. Sometimes WE are the cafe we must break free from. Deklan and Kathiria's story of love and acceptance. Triumph over wrong. Even if you do good there are consequences to your actions that must be held accountable for. Live life. Love. I'm not sure if I can leave a quote so I'm not going to. But if I say anything else I fear I will let something slip. The imiagary is beautiful and overly done.
This debut novel from E. Barbee invites you into a world where magic has been banished and the people and the land suffer because of it. A man with a dark secret and a young woman seeking freedom stumble into a journey together to bring magic back into their world. If you enjoy fantasy stories from authors like Sarah Beth Durst, Rachel Gillig and Hannah Nicole Maehrer, you’ll enjoy this rich magical world with well-developed characters by E. Barbee!
E. Barbee’s debut novel is a masterclass in world building and character dynamics/interplay. A beautiful fantasy work that expertly weaves storytelling and narrative structure in a way that is both engrossing and accessible.
As this is a work of fantasy, there are elements of magic involved (no spoilers) E. Barbee’s exploration of magical creatures is a large part of what I love about this work. She draws upon legend, myth and history to give the supernatural a solid footing and then gives them personalities and her own whimsical touches that truly bring her beings to life for the reader.
Her characters are engaging and relatable while still maintaining an air of the fantastic. Her MFC is smart and independent, with an acerbic wit evident especially in her inner monologue (which makes her feel like a close friend). She is a fully developed person in her own right, which is a beautiful thing to see in an MFC. The author’s MMC is just the right combination of mystery, quiet strength, brood and “heart of gold” to bring on the swoon factor while avoiding unrealistic standards of a “Prince Charming.” I also love that he is intelligent and able to easily match wits with the MFC so effortlessly. Truly two characters written to be together. I also love a dual POV and the ability it gave to get inside both MC’s really gave the story an extra depth. The supporting cast of characters have enough development and backstory to make them feel grounded within the story while supporting, but not taking over or diminishing the main narrative.
As far as world building goes, I feel like no detail was overlooked and in the best way possible. Politics, government and social structure are well developed, yet I was able to avoid feeling inundated with information. I find that it’s a difficult balance to achieve and this author maintains it very well. E. Barbee’s Mapped World feels like a real place just on the other side of the ocean in another timeline.
In conclusion “All of Us Monsters” is a fantastic (in all definitions of the word) debut from a very promising new YA author. I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel!
-The world building and magic system are both done well. The explanation of the magic system is more than, "the magic works the way it does simply because it's magic." Barbee takes the time to explain to the reader some of the "how" behind the magical creatures, spells, etc. Many of my internal questions were answered as I read.
-There was romance, but it wasn't at the expense of the larger story. I think Barbee balanced her romantic elements with the larger plot well. I was hooked from the beginning on the plot.
-The female main character was strong, but feminine, and had faults. It made it easier to relate to her, as she wasn't some perfect goddess who you couldn't sympathize with.
Reason why I didn't give it 5 stars:
-The pacing with the MCs at the beginning is a little too fast for me. They hit it off very quickly and trusted each other faster than I would expect and seemingly without much reason. There is a whole chunk where they're traveling together, getting to know one another really well, but the reader isn't privy to all those conversations and interactions. That time feels a little glossed over. By the time they arrive at their destination they seem to have the other all figured out, insecurities, flaws, and character alike. Because each chapter changes from one character's perspective to the other, the reader knows a lot of the internal working of each character, but it felt confusing that the other character so easily came to understand their companion without us being shown much of how they came to know it. We got to see a few glimpses, but I would have liked to have that part of the story more developed.
All in all, I thought it was a fun read and would recommend! Can't wait for the sequel.
I'll be honest that the book, in the beginning, had me feeling a certain way when it talked about the Confederacy and the South and how things were. But the story and world-building definitely got better as the book went on and you could see where Barbee was going. Particularly after Kathiria was able to leave her estate and see more of the world, I found the story to be interesting and engaging and Barbee's writing quite good.
My biggest problem is that this book should have been longer. I don't often say that about fantasy/romantasy books, but I felt it strongly here. The first 50% or so should have been its own book and allowed us to see Kathiria and Deklan's relationship develop as the history of the Confederacy and the war was teased out. I also would have loved to see more of Kathiria's own growth. In some ways, it felt like we needed to see some of the boring day-to-day occurrences instead of jumping from Important Event to Important Event. The second half similarly could have been longer and more fleshed out.
I'm still intrigued by the story and would be interested to see where things go with the characters, especially with the hints at the end. And I'm hopeful the next book(s) won't feel so rushed!

All of Us Monsters is a captivating debut from E. Barbee—one that hooked my spirit from the very beginning. Each chapter enchanted me forward, making it hard to set the book down. E. Barbee has a gift for detail; her descriptions paint the scenery so vividly that the Mapped World feels both vast and intimate, brimming with a menagerie of magic where every creature carries a story, a symbol, a truth.
What struck me most is how E. Barbee weaves the idea of masks—those we wear to hide, to survive, to fit in—in contrast with the quiet power that comes from embracing who we truly are. In this world, the greatest magic isn’t found in spells or monsters but in the moments when characters shed their fear, revealing their true essence.
For a debut, this book is stunningly immersive, emotionally rich, and full of heart. E. Barbee is absolutely an author to watch.
All of Us Monsters: Essence of Magic is a thoroughly engaging journey that draws the reader in from the very first page.
The multi-perspective narrative allows for a deep and intimate connection with both main characters, enriching the emotional depth of the story. Though set within an extraordinary magical world, the novel remains strikingly relatable. The descriptive texts leaves a lasting visual impression of both beautiful and frightful moments. The dialog is witting and enticing. Additionally, the author’s expansive vocabulary adds a layer of sophistication—so much so that even as an adult reader, I encountered and learned new words.
Escaping into the Mapped World alongside Kathiria and Deklan was an absolute pleasure, making this novel a rewarding and memorable reading experience.
E. Barbee has created a truly magical world—one I was eager to escape into at every spare moment I have as a busy mom. The character development is so rich that I felt as though I’d known and cared about these characters for years. It’s hard to believe this is Barbee’s debut novel; the immersive storytelling and sense of magic feel reminiscent of authors who’ve spent years building expansive, beloved series. All of Us Monsters left me longing for more time in this world and more adventures with these characters. Until book two arrives, I’ll happily be diving back in to this one as soon as I get my hands on a physical copy.
** I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. **
Inventive, full of magical details that both satisfy my imagination and ground me in possibility that I could equally experience a magical world and a “typical” one. And the idea that magic is necessary to enhance beauty in nature, that not everything needs controlling with logic (this is where power can tip into tyranny)…I loved how immersed I became in the story. I loved getting to know these multifaceted characters - Kathiria (so brave and expressive in her magic) and Deklan (so duty-bound but yearning for authentic belonging)… and their chemistry together kept me hooked.
What also kept me hooked, though, is what I always love about thoughtfully written fantasy and romance… the layers of story. The world - and its relevant parallels to real life - was beautifully described and fraught with conflict that needed resolving. I love settling into the kind of fantasy stories that are both an escape and somehow relatable. ‘All Of Us Monsters’ does just that. It’s creative, sweetly fantastical, and perfectly magical.
You’d be hard-pressed to believe this is Ellie Barbee’s debut novel. Her nuanced character development and richly detailed scene construction reflect the confidence and skill of a seasoned author. From the opening pages to the final chapter, the narrative remains thoroughly engaging, never once losing momentum. This was a compelling and polished read, and I wholeheartedly recommend her work—I’ll certainly be watching for whatever she writes next!
All of Us Monsters was awesome! The details, the characters to start, but more importantly the character development, and the plot! I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait for the next installment! Kathiria and Deklan are such compelling characters and narrators that I didn’t want to put the book down.
