A super spicy forbidden workplace romance read from Christy McKellen. Perfect for fans of Meghan Quinn and Hannah Grace Mixing business with pleasure… what could possibly go wrong?
Maya Darlington-Hume is the life of the party, used to turning heads—and getting her way. But behind the champagne and charm is a woman chasing something real, especially from the one man who’s never taken her her father. So when she discovers the gorgeous stranger who caught her mid-bath is actually her father’s business partner—and her new boss—Maya decides to have a little fun.
Benedict Chivers has worked hard to get where he is, and he’s not about to risk it all for a fling. Especially not with his investor’s irresistible daughter. But Maya is hard to ignore… and even harder to resist.
Their connection is electric, their chemistry off the charts—but with so much at stake falling into bed might be the easy part. Staying out of trouble? That’s another story.
Formerly a Video and Radio Producer, Christy now spends her time writing provocative, passionate, seductive romance. When she’s not writing, she can be found enjoying life with her husband and three children, walking for pleasure and researching other people’s deepest secrets and desires.
From the very first line, I knew I was in trouble–in a good way. The first chapter showcases how Benedict finds Maya in a bit of a compromising position, which ends up not being too compromising for either of them, even though Benedict wants it to appear that way. For him, getting into bed with Maya (personally or professionally) could be problematic, and he knows the best decision would be to keep her at arm’s length.
Maya has other ideas. She’s spent most of her life in her dad’s shadow, having to deal with the judgement that often comes from being the daughter of a powerful man. No one takes her seriously, assuming she has everything handed to her, with no need to work for what she wants. I think it makes her work that much harder–even when it comes to matters of the heart. She knows Benedict should be off limits, but the type of connection they share is all too powerful, despite what she knows is best.
This is an "opposite sides of the track" story; Benedict is a self-made man, while Maya comes from a background of influence. Yet they both manage to meet in the middle, learning from one another, discovering that the opinions they had don’t really matter, and aren’t really true, anyway. Maya wants to break away from her father and make a name for herself, and Benedict has a lot more to offer than just his business. They are a lot more than where they came from.
The biggest obstacle is facing Maya’s father. Sprinkled throughout In Too Deep are very spicy scenes between the two main characters that could make anyone blush; it reminded me a bit of the movie Secretary–maybe not the exact type of content, but definitely the same sentiment. It made for a very engaging reading experience that kept me on my toes.

My Opinion
I have previously enjoyed books by Christy McKellen and In Too Deep did not disappoint. I was hooked from the opening page. With some charming characters this was a delightful read. At under 200 pages, this was a quick and easy read.
If a spicy, steamy romance is what you like to read This could be the next book that you need. With a rebellious young lady who likes things her way And doesn't seem to care what others might say.
Add in her powerful father to the mix And how she fights what he's trying to fix. Setting on a business owner to keep out of trouble Could be asking for even more - at the double!
With attraction building between the pair Will they succumb - will they dare? With so many different things against the two What will they decide to do?
A story that shows sometimes attitude is just an act That's hiding the truth, that's a fact. As the two find out more about each other Is there a chance it'll be romance that they discover?
For my copy of this book I say thank you As I share with you this, my honest review.
Maya knows what she wants, and nothing will stop her from getting it, so when she works for Ben's company, the game is on.
Ben likes to keep things professional, but he cannot deny the chemistry that seems to fizzle between himself and Maya, and soon he will cross the line.
McKellen knows how to give us all the spice in this short novel, with characters that show a raw depth of troubled youth.
Both these characters have walls up for protection, but it will take each other to bring them down and find each other to keep them down.
This can easily be read in one sitting, but I highly recommend reading this one in private, as it will easily have you blushing and crossing your legs to stop the pulse between them.
This was a really fun and enjoyable read with a serious side too. Although Maya and Benedict’s relationship is mainly just based on s*x at the start. They both do have their own personal traumas that they are working through. I loved getting to know both characters throughout the book. They were very complex and deep which I enjoyed. I’m glad they both got the ending they deserved especially Maya and the relationships with her family. The spicy scenes were fun and lighthearted bringing the joy to the pages. Maya and Benedict’s banter together was laugh out loud. They were so good together!! This is my first book my Christy but I already have more lined up on my tbr shelf.
It took me two weeks to read, despite only being 177 pages long. The characters didn't really engage me and I didn't feel like I related to Maya at all. She's a wild party girl and incredibly forward and brash. I am none of those things. 😅
The spice was decent and the but there wasn't much of a story.
Be warned that this is spicy and steamy from page one! However this has a quite deep storyline that shows how even though someone might come across as confident they can actually be extremely vulnerable and maybe a little lost. Maya has always been the black sheep of the family, likes sex and embarking in sexual encounters. Benedict has worked really hard to make his company what it is. On the verge of Maya’s dad investing in it he is thrown a curve ball in the shape of Maya. The chemistry is electric and Benedict tries really hard to not give in to his attraction to Maya…….. I found this really easy to read and follow. With a great cast of characters and an engaging story I really enjoyed this.

From the very first page I was hooked and I kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. I loved Maya's character and the chemistry between her and Benedict was off the charts. Overall, a brilliant novel that I highly recommend to other readers. I look forward to reading more by the author. 💝 Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources, Boldwood Books and the author Christy McKellen for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This short read begins with a bit of a bang and that really sets the tone for the rest of the book.
We are quickly introduced to rich, party girl Maya and her father's business associate Benedict. After a brief, sexy encounter the two are thrown together at work when Maya is forced by her father to work as his temporary PA.
Maya is a wild character. She's rather brash and forward and I really found it hard to connect with her.
In Too Deep is a really spicy, workplace romance. At under 200 pages though, it really doesn't allow for the characters to develop. I enjoyed the writing and I highly recommended this if you love spice. However I would have liked the story to be a bit more fleshed out. The relationship between the two felt a little rushed.
