Like all true romantics, Tiffany had always been fascinated by the great love stories of the past. The only child of two historians, she had always felt a pull towards British History and the epics that it spawned. But, instead of following in her parent’s footsteps, Tiffany chose to express her love of history in her own way: by writing about her favorite era. After obtaining a degree in English Literature, Tiffany decided to write her first book and never looked back. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys spending time with her own Prince Charming, and their two beautiful children, enjoying Massachusetts’ natural wonders. Hop on for a unique journey in Regency England, filled with intensity and heartwarming romance. Let Tiffany’s words bring the enchanting heroes of an era long gone back to life and charm their way into your heart!
For the first 2 months of their marriage they barely saw each other & then he took off for 2 months.
so this is a quote from one of the main characters about more than halfway through the book.
“I do not even know what to do in this place. I walk through these halls like a stranger, careful not to breathe too loudly, careful not to offend. Every step feels as though it treads upon some invisible rule, and when I try, when I dare to be comfortable, you tell me I have no right.”
which sums up a lot of the book for me, & was why I had difficulty enjoying it.
Then around 280 things did get a lot better & I really started to enjoy the book for about 50 pages & then things went downhill again.
I did also love Dorothy's relationship with Eugenia & how she did her best to help Magnus & them become a family!
just over all it was a bit to depressing of a book for me personally.
This is an interesting story where Dorothy and her cousin, Lucy have started a scandalous rumor to prevent Dorothy's unwanted marriage to an older man her father had arranged. Then duke they had included in their rumor shows up at Dorothy's wedding announces he will be the one marrying Dorothy. Magnus, the Duke of Walford, explains he has a niece, Eugenia, that has not spoken since her mother died and he only wants a marriage of convenience. Dorothy agrees thinking it would be better than marrying the man her father had arranged for her to marry. How will this marriage work? Will there be revelations neither expected? Will Eugenia talk? I do wish there had been an extended epilogue for this story.
I enjoyed this well-written story. Duke Marcus and Dorothy had an unconventional start to their marriage but love bloomed eventually. I liked the care that Dorothy gave to Marcus' niece. She had become a selective mute, following the death of her mother. Dorothy helped her to recover the confidence to speak. It is a good story. I always enjoy stories by Tiffany Baton.
This story was an enjoyable read, with headstrong characters, and an engaging plot. Dorothy and Magnus meet under unique circumstances, which sets the stage for their marriage of convenience. The presence of Eugenia added a loving and poignant element to the story. I always enjoy when new relationships bring out different personality traits that adds drama and joy to the story. I remain a huge fan of Ms Baton. I received a complimentary ARC, but I am voluntarily offering my personal opinion.
The Duke, Magnus, marries Lady Dorothy to quiet the rumors she began. His niece needs a mother figure & it’s a done deal. But the Duke has his secrets, as well as Dorothy, so there has to be a compromise. When everything seems fine, it seems it really isn’t & a break is needed which comes at a cost!
Your story is just enough! Some stories plague us with too much heat, too much romance, and the same time not enough compassion or passion! I like the idea of the meeting of the mind that ties all of the pieces and loose ends! I !one to believe that love will win! Thank you for sharing your talent! I look forward to enjoying future tales from your desk!
The story of life in a world of the English hierarchy, brings a troubled girl and a family oriented lady together. What grows is a heartwarming story of love and family. Check it out for yourself.
Dorothy almost ends up Married to the lord her father had chosen but thanks to a rumor she and Lucy conjure up she gets a duke, Magnus, involved who ultimately marries her. There are past secrets that must be overcome before they find their hea
Drama, romance, laughter, secrets all make a wonderful story. Add a little girl that doesn’t talk, a mystery to solve, and you elevate it even more. Enjoyed immensely.
Life interfered on reading this book. It was very good but had too much spice for me. I still resented having to put it down to do what I needed to do. The characters were interesting and the plot was great.
Oh . .. how much I loved the book!! These characters are so strong and we'll define that everything they do seems natural. That letter was a really nice touch and so original. I emphasized with the FML a lot!
The action in this novel was slow to begin with, but once it picked up, I found myself enjoying it. I see I have read 16 books by Tiffany Baton and find her to be a thoughtful writer.
